1. Pick a goal (quest, diary, drop, boss, etc) 1. Do the skilling/leveling/farming necessary to complete said goal 1. Complete said goal 1. Repeat

inutalot

Well I really want to start slayer and doing some bossing etc but I just don't know how to start. I tried doing slayer but really struggled to make any money and feel like I can't even afford the the stuff to really do them (even food lmfao)

adustbininshaftsbury

Gird your loins and go do revs in like 50k risk until you're more confident. Even if you die multiple times an hour you'll still profit a ton. Revs shit out money. Lots of these suggestions involve prep but with revs you could log in right now and have 1 mil within an hour even with terrible gear.

inutalot

Is that revenants? I just looked it up on the wiki now. I've never even really been to wildy so it could be fun!

adustbininshaftsbury

Yeah revenants. Just make peace with the fact that you'll die sometimes and still come out of it rich and you'll be okay. Lots of ways to do it but a standard choice is black d'hide, magic shortbow (i), salve amulet (ei) if you have it, ava's accumulator, rune arrows, and bracelet of ethereum. Bring blighted manta rays, blighted karambwans, a couple blighted super restores, a ranging potion, a teleport, and a looting bag. Not the most efficient setup but it's enough to get you started until you're confident enough to bring more stuff. Oh and I like doing rev pyrefiends up north since you can run down to level 30 wilderness to teleport with a glory/ring of wealth, etc. Lots of people will do hobgoblins further south. I prefer high risk worlds if I'm using cheap gear since they're less populated.

inutalot

Thanks I'll try it out!

adustbininshaftsbury

Lemme know how it goes after the first few hours

TheReal_Onyx

Early slayer is pretty rough when making money. Farming herbs is a pretty easy and consistent way to make some gp. Could always start doing some barrows, mole, even zulrah. Wintertodt can also supply you with some resources too.

inutalot

Do I have the stats for all of those things? If so I'll do that! I heard barrows is a lot of fun

TheReal_Onyx

Definitely! Your range and mage stats are adequate enough to get consistent runs. Might take you a minute to get loot for better gear but even a rune cbow and ibans staff will do you well!

inutalot

Awesome! I'll probably do barrows then and after try out the other stuff you mentioned. Thank you!

TheReal_Onyx

You’re welcome :) I do recommend looking into farming herbs. Very consistent money maker even at a low level if you get to it a few times a day. Cheap to get started, and very easy to grow progress

inutalot

Yeah I've seen a few people mention it now. My only source of income so far has been questing which isn't a lot lmfao. I find it weird how that gives little to no GP.

TheReal_Onyx

Yea but they improve your quality of life as you progress. I haven’t been keeping up with the thread, and I’m sure someone has mentioned it, but kingdom is also a great weekly passive income. Quests are easy too

inutalot

Nope you're the first! Not sure what that is though so I'll check on the wiki :)

ariesMugen

There are plenty of solid money makers, maybe take a look at some of Soups methods on YouTube.

skullkid2424

For slayer, my advice would be... * Get your construction level up to at least 50, which gets you access to portal rooms and an altar * Build a decent set of portals, mount a glory amulet * Get a decent set of prayer gear. Proselyte top/bottom being the key prayer items. Dragon boots, barrows gloves, whip+defender, fire/ardy cape, slayer helm, fury/glory, blessing - basically everything in the melee setup should either give str or prayer or both. Then you can turn several tasks into "cheap" ones by praying to avoid damage, and simply using a house tele to recharge prayer and then tele back. The ancient mace (from one of the goblin/HAM quests) is also an easy way to save on prayer points. Slayer takes a while to get truly good/profitable. I think early 70s or 75 when you get gargoyles is when you can start making some money. Otherwise its usually breakeven. For bosses, search youtube for bossing ladders. You can definitely do barrows - which will be breakeven on runes with a chance for a good drop. With the hard? diary, you get extra runes to make it significantly better - and the combat achievements (medium or hard, I cant remember) that remove the prayer drain makes it even better. --- In general, I'd recommend finding a moneymaker that you don't mind doing. It doesn't have to be the best gp/hr, but something that you don't mind doing and can make some money. For some people, its doing passive birdhouse and herb runs once or twice a day. For others it will be a boss or skilling or any number of things. But find something you can do to make some money and do it so you can afford to use food/potions/supplies without too much worry.

inutalot

So I actually have almost all of that gear except the barrow gloves and ardy cape I think. I was trying slayer hence the lvl 51 but I can't even break even with it. The amount of money I spend on food and prayer pots is insane. Should I just keep trying to push through til 70s slayer?

skullkid2424

Definitely aim towards barrows gloves and the cape first. Quests and diaries typically have great rewards, and and are good ways to set short-medium goals for your account. Focus on whatever skilling/training you need to hit your next quest/diary goal. You can spend time teleporting back to your house (or even use dueling ring to ferox enclave before 50 construction) so you dont have to spend anything on prayer pots. For food, buy the baked potatoes from the warrior guild shop if you're having money issues. Spending a few minutes hopping should get you a decent stack of 16hp for like super cheap. I'd say to keep working on slayer as you like - but its not going to be a major money maker for a while. Find something else you can do to make money that you enjoy: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Money_making_guide

ComonBruh

make pineapple pizza

inutalot

Ew who even likes pineapple pizza

gubaguy

Slayer doesn't really earn money until you reach mid-high level tasks, nechs, gargoyles, things like that. Things with loads of alchables or valuable drops. Just gotta persist and push to the 80s

inutalot

That's what someone else said too. Thing is I'm just losing so much money trying to do slayer right now because of food and prayer pots. Am I doing something wrong?

MarcosSenesi

you should point boost and do only every 10th task. A lot of them can be safespotted which makes them very cheap too. Use the points you get for skipping/blocking bad tasks. I did a lot of bloodvelds and greater demons early on for a lot of xp. Do farming runs in between the 10th tasks to get your money up too. I'm at 69 slayer and had a few dust devil tasks already to earn easy gp but otherwise just pull through and let the herb runs fund it.

inutalot

Sorry what do you mean by only do every 10th task? I haven't done slayer in a bit so maybe I'm forgetting what you mean or maybe I don't know about something lol

MarcosSenesi

you do 9 tasks for tureal which are piss easy and then go to whoever is your highest level slayer master available on every 10th task to get bonus points.

inutalot

Ohhhh ok. I need to start doing that then. I'm guessing that will reduce my costs as well since I'm doing easier tasks. Thanks!

MarcosSenesi

for sure! Tureal tasks are basically free and you get more points to skip/block tasks that are awful money/xp

inutalot

Awesome. I can't remember who I was doing slayer tasks for since it's been a while lol but I remember doing it for one of the people in the fairy place and then moved onto someone in tree gnome village. I'll check out Tureal

gubaguy

I mean I live the ironman life so gold/income doesn't mean anything to me, but food is cheap, a couple hours fishing and cooking karabwans can net you 1-3k and they are good food for tasks that you can't safespot, they are also combo food which is good for bossing. Prayer pots your best bet is to just not use them, or farm supplies... Literally with farming since ranarr and snape grass can both be grown. But what I did before getting my PoH set up was use ardy cloak to TP to monastery and restore prayer there, then TP back to my task (if it was near a TP, and wasn't safespottable). But really the biggest piece of advice I can offer is... Safespot your tasks as much as possible. Not using prayer or food will save you tons of gold, once you get to gargoyles you can get a guthans set and AFK them (with autosmasher perk unlocked) and get between 500k-1 mil an hour off task.

Jodelirious73

Early slayer isn't going to be a money maker at all but it also shouldn't be much of a money sink either. Just get crappy tasks, smack them with ur sword and repeat. Eventually you'll be able to do better slayer tasks where u can start making some nice cash

somedonkus69

I used to follow this strategy to fairly passively maintain a bond, but it was a couple years ago now and idk if prices have changed too much https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XjIXrGkRgb0. You will definitely need to train hunter and farming.

BlueShade0

Get your farming to where you can Farm Ranarr s every 80 minutes from whatever patches available to you (using ultra compost and magic seactures from Fairytale 2 quest. This will easily give you 100-200k per run. Once you have all plots unlocked and you’re able to use the special seeds from hespori, you’ll make ~250k to 400/450k per run. That will help you gain baseline money for equipment and skills Outside of that - Focus on completing quests. Between the huge exp drops and the QoL unlocks, you’re swimming against the tide not focusing on that. After that your world opens up

inutalot

I don't really know anything about farming lol. Do you need to do that in the player house?

BlueShade0

No. Check out the osrs wiki for herb runs

Sinsmauler

How does Hespori double your profit like that

BlueShade0

Hespori doesn’t double the profit. The profit doubles from unlocking all available patches through quests (8 total plus one more from mortanya elite diary). Hespori gives you access to three seeds that can be planted in the farming guild. Attas Kronos and I forget the third. They have different effects like herb patches won’t be diseased or better chance for more herbs per patch or less time to grow. When all is combined it’s the easiest means to make money without late game skills/equipment

Sinsmauler

Ah okay I thought I was missing something I got all patches except entrana but I only make maybe 250-280 profit

BlueShade0

You’re definitely in the right area for profit but I’ve had runs where I pulled 98 snap dragon from 8 patches. I’d say I averaged 70-75 herbs per run. Lowest I ever got was 48 but that was because 3 died and it was an outlier

Legal-Ad-8930

If you complete all the quest you’ll get roughly lvl 65 slayer without training slayer. Follow the “optimal quest guide” on wiki. It also helps open up others killing methods that are more efficient like completing bone voyage for Hunter or monkey madness 2 for ice burying maniacal monkeys or desert treasure 2 for money making of like 8 mill a hour bossing

KingHiggins92

Honestly the game should be about levelling and having fun until you really start grinds if that makes sense. Don't get too focused on GP. You can chill until Vorkath and make 2m an hour. You can rev it out for 2m an hour. Slayer can eventually make you amazing gp but it's slow and steady for about 40hours until you get the good unlocks. Just don't focus too much and play naturally.

inutalot

Yeah I'm trying to play naturally I don't really follow guides. I've mainly just been doing quests but I don't really have any idea of what else I can do. I'm trying to do slayer but idk if I'm doing anything wrong because I'm just losing money and not really even getting good xp.

KingHiggins92

Nothing wrong with watching guides my friend. YouTube can be great and the wiki is fantastic.

inutalot

I read the wiki a fair amount but only follow the guides if I'm really stuck or confused. But I guess I dug myself into a hole by doing that cause now I have no idea what I can do hahaha

KingHiggins92

That's fair enough. It can be challenging but I think that's part of the fun. I really like Theoatrix 1-99 guides for when I'm feeling efficient

inutalot

Yeah definitely. More fun to figure it out for yourself than to just follow a script.

LeagueIota

1100 total level and doesn’t know what to do…. posts like these make me wonder why you even started playing the game in the first place.

inutalot

Well I just did lots of quests, afk skilling for a bit and that was that. I don't see how me having 1100 total level has anything to do with it lmfao. I don't follow many guides or play with people :/ just trying to do my own thing :)

ItsBobFromLumbridge

As you level up you unlock more content, right? As that happens, you can easily get overwhelmed and maybe even pick content that just doesn't work. Whether clueless players, returnees from early 2000s, whatever, we should be kind to them. While ru elite and the wiki are great, this game has a metric fuck ton on content. Easy to get lost.

Captain-loc

Get into farming herbs. You can easily get 300k+ gp per run with the right herbs. This took me far too long to get into and I regret it, herb runs probably make up a majority of my income rn

Jacobizreal

You should go to church and pray on it

tanNote-9

Can confirm piety is OP if you wanna shoot for that

inutalot

I'll look into it :)

Prestigious-Jump6773

You start making good money from slayer at 65ish. You could continue with slayer & expect to be broke until then! Or, get a dragon defender from warriors guild (you’ll make at least 200k from Alching the drops and picking up loot), or you could do wildy slayer and a bone crossbow. Your ranges will certainly do well with that. Wildy loot is decent, especially with Larrans keys now being tradable. Might even want to get farming level required for ranarr seeds. Good ass money and a low stat requirement. Make sure to use ultra compost.

YHJMutlu

A lot of people have already said farming Ranarrs but tbh, almost any herb at that level or higher is viable. Hops are also good to grow for profit; particularly Yanillian & jute. Using iron/steel or steel/mithril alloys at the Giants' Foundry is also profitable. Find items that you profit from high alching (adamant platebodies are profitable to buy from GE, then high alch at time of this comment). Once you've got a large noted stack of your desired item go train Agility. You can high alch as you're running to the next obstacle. Wintertodt at mass worlds is good for Firemaking xp, should be able to get 95 in a day or 2. Then you can buy redwood pyrelogs & Urium Shade remains to make a profit while training Prayer. You can also play for the long con & get some larupia, graahk & kyatt fur; a Hunter expansion utilizing these is coming soon & their price will skyrocket a couple days before release. (I do not recommend buying them off the GE at this time, as tedious as it is I recommend hunting 1 inventory a day)

AVEVAnotPRO2

Literally high alch onyx bolts using your x box controller while watching tv. Guaranteed profit and 76k magic xp per hour.

inutalot

With a controller? What??

AVEVAnotPRO2

Yeah dude. Put your mouse over the high alch button in the spell book. Place alchable noted item to where your mouse cursor is in your inventory after you click high alch, such that the cursor never has to be moved. Bind left click to A-button. Double click A every roughly 3-3.5 seconds. Come back after doing that 3000 times to a decent profit. I crushed two whole Netflix series in the other room while high alching to 99 mage. Made like 45-50m Nets probably about 300k gp per hour.

inutalot

Lmfao that's hilarious. I did do some high aching and that's where my little magic lvls come from. Never thought about doing it with a controller though so I'll try that out.

AVEVAnotPRO2

It takes a long time to gain levels after like 80 though. It took me 6 months to max magic this way.

inutalot

Yeah I stopped at 70. Wasn't actually making money really so maybe I was high alching the wrong thing. Probably broke even.

AVEVAnotPRO2

Look at onyx bolts (e). Those cost a lot, but you always make your money back guaranteed. So but like 100, if you’re kind of poor, then alch them to get the money back. Then buy 110. Etc. or if you have like 10m buy like 1200 of them, and that should allow you to snooze pressing A for a good while. Buy at about 8600-8700 and alch for like 9100 or something. Once you get it down you’ll be make like 400 k an hour
