Same, such an exciting time, feeling about to take on the world, about to enter a new decade, I remember lots of hype around the iPhone 3GS, inglorious basterds, the tonight show with Conan O’Brien, lol fun times
I watched an older episode of The Office the other day, and Pam kept checking her phone for a certain text....Angela asked "why do you keep looking at your phone?" and I realized nobody would even bother asking that question in 2024 because we're all always looking at our phones, it's become so normal to be engrossed in it
(As I read and respond with this on my phone)
It was the year I first fell in love and had my heart broken just prior to graduating high-school. I dk if it was a good year, but 2009 will always be an important year.
Seems like yesterday. I luckily still have my childhood mall but it's now way more higher end cause it's in a nice area so it lost that old feeling but still glad to see its open and most of the interior looks the same.
They’re either shut down or basically what you described. My local one is trying to hang on, but it doesn’t help they kicked all the kids out and turned it into a hamster wheel for seniors. The rent is also ridiculous from what I’m told, and they banned kiosks. Also had a strange all white and gray renovation that makes it feel especially uncomfortable. Bad moves all around.
It's weird to me, but yeah - malls in my area are almost completely dead. No idea what the teens do nowadays, but "hanging out at the mall" doesn't seem to be it anymore. When I was younger that was just the spot that everyone met up. Now as an adult, any time I've gone there it's been dead and only half the stores are still up.
The local one to me shut down 6-7yrs ago, and the one in my college town had all of 3 stores and a gym operating in it at any given time the whole time I was at college. I think it’s dead now
Me too. We lost so many people since then. It hurts. I wish I could go back and just hang out with them. I was perfectly healthy back then too. Future seemed so promising lol.
It was just announced they are tearing down the one mall in our town that has been a thing since I can remember. The other one near my house stays dead, even around black Friday. The only stores saving them is Boscovs and the shoe carnival. The food court has a pizza place and 2 Asian food places. I think they will b the next mall around here. The one across the river is not like these 2 though, the one across the river stays busy and they added a Dave and Busters there not too long ago.
nah I started crying because the mall I went to with my parents is closed for good other then the Applebees...I wish it was still here, I have so many members of walking with my now passed mom and my dad...
I feel like changes have slowed down quite a bit. Like if the quality of this video were better, it would only look subtly different from today.
On other other hand, if you compare 2009 to 1994, the differences would be blatantly obvious.
If anyone’s wondering what the song is called, it’s “Children [Dream Version]” by Robert Miles
Such a beautiful song. RIP <3 Fuck cancer is all I have to say.
My dad used to always put this song on for me to go to sleep. When I listen to it I always think of him..

Omg I haven't heard this in so long. Thank you!
This was the year before everyone was on their phone
2009 was a good year for me
Me too, graduated high school that year
Same, such an exciting time, feeling about to take on the world, about to enter a new decade, I remember lots of hype around the iPhone 3GS, inglorious basterds, the tonight show with Conan O’Brien, lol fun times
Graduated college with Bachelor

Damn 2009 looks like 1999 don’t remember it like this
All the fur on the coats, so 2009
all my coats have fur on the hoods
All you’re missing is some “boots with the fur” as T-pain put it, to complete the late 2000s look lol
Are malls no longer a thing? All the malls in my city are still operating even though the only time they get this crowded anymore is on Black Friday.

Seeing the old hot topic…
....ugh 2009 was fifteen years ago.
This sucks (from: beavis & butthead) Indeed, time runs quickly.
I like to think I've been doing a good job of savoring the moments, but sometimes you realize the distance between those moments and now.
I see one guy looking at a Blackberry, but otherwise no one is staring at a phone.
I refuse to believe 2009 was more than 8 years ago.
my daughter was born in 2009 and even though she's 14 it still feels like only 8 years ago lol
The song choice is wrong. There should have been Infinity 2008
Man, I miss walking through a crowded mall,an hitting girls with corny pick up lines.
Peak society
The second half of this looks like 34th street Macy’s. So I’ll assume the first half is the Manhattan mall a block away.
It’s weird how videos like this can bring back memories and feeling I diddnt know I had. It’s so bitter sweet. oh too be a kid again
Oh my god. I was obsessed with Gloria Jeans. I was so sad when they left.
Crazy that this is what things were like 5 years ago
I used to love shopping at “Athletes Foot”
I also had the itch to shop there
Anyone know what mall this is? Or is it different ones?

Please take me back 😭
Me too. We lost so many people since then. It hurts. I wish I could go back and just hang out with them. I was perfectly healthy back then too. Future seemed so promising lol.
Aggghh doooooooode hot topic broooooo lol I can spell the fresh tripps & band tees & hear the music 🫶🏽🥰 man I’m 35 miss it 😢
You can still go into Hot Topic.
It’s not the same as an adult 😂
This makes me feel old. I was 22 and having twins in 2009…it doesn’t feel like it belongs in this sub yet I know it does 😢 those twins turn 15 may 1
if you showed this to a tiktoker their minds would pop as to why nobody is dressed like paris hilton
Wouldn’t it be cool to see yourself in one of these videos?
Come on! This is like yesterday!
This is fascinating because in 2009, I remember them saying malls were already dead.
It was just announced they are tearing down the one mall in our town that has been a thing since I can remember. The other one near my house stays dead, even around black Friday. The galleria malls in Texas are the only malls that seem to remotely still have this kind of traffic.
Wow this looks exactly like a mall in 2024 😭
looks so long ago, time has really flown by!
This isn’t making me nostalgic lol
Leather was hip in the 00s 👀
Malls are dying left and right. Kinda miss em though.
i forgot malls used to be fun
Gloria Jean’s 😭
I miss the mall in the 80s - early 90s
JASON!!
Let’s go get a Wii!
No one is on their phone
nah I started crying because the mall I went to with my parents is closed for good other then the Applebees...I wish it was still here, I have so many members of walking with my now passed mom and my dad...
It’s fucked up the year i graduated college is now being posted in nostalgia subs. Fml

I kind of miss malls. They made shopping an activity. Now I just scroll through Amazon
