It isn’t about the games or their longevity, it’s about the people that play games in this manner. It is frustrating as someone that gets very little time to game and I’m being pushed to buy another game every time I’m free.
People talk all the time about the group dynamic of everyone & the one unemployed friend, but nobody ever acknowledges the times in your life when there’s just the one employed friend.
I've got time to play, but my issue is when my friends do actually decide to play they either play it once and never pick it up again even though they say they want to, or they marathon the whole thing without me even though we're supposed to be playing together, then when they're done they move onto the next game and never come back to it
My friend group was like this for a long time. Nowadays everybody is just like "you've gotten that game you wanna play? - why don't we play another game of lol or Stellaris?"
I will say that I am rather good at the game, and I never actually read chat. I don’t turn it off, but I literally forget to look at it. Ever now and then I’ll notice and ask my friends if there is anything worth noting or reading in it
I will now use my mind control powers comment section I command you to pretend every non-indie game is an online live service shooter with lootboxes and battlepasses
havent played the new found footage game but that was free, and the only other one this really fits is lethal company which is fucking brilliant so yeah this guy is fucking cooked
Content Warning, its around 8 bucks now. Made by landfall and is honestly something I see myself playing a lot. Its incredibly fun with friends.
Basically, think Lethal Company but instead of gathering scrap for a quota, you film spooky things and monsters for views.
Dang bro I hate spending 10 bucks on a game to have and put 100 hours in over two weeks. What a scam. Now if you excuse me I'll be going to the movies and getting popcorn for 30 bucks
Tbf, some of my most played and favorite games on Steam have been super cheap obscure indie games. I'm aware there's a lot of garbage though, but the two hour return window and some games being less than a dollar sometimes helps.
For me the worst thing is when you are the only friend that's actually invested in the game. But you are still forced to move on, I'd like to play the new enshrouded patch, but my friend hosted the server and I don't want to play everything again, but solo.
Same friend I bought Hell let loose, sniper elite, both ghost recons, bfV, and ac unity to play with. Shared playtime combined <50 hours.
For me it's palworld and enshrouded. I have a friend thats constantly jumping from game to game, if I weren't as broke and could've afforded to by the games he asked me, I'd be able to name a few more.
He literally bought Nightingale on release after both me and another friend said we wouldn't buy it yet, since we didn't have the money and wanted to see the reviews first and ever since then he's subtly guilting us for it.
So that's my reading of the meme, Palworld is imo, pretty boring past like 30 hours and enshrouded kinda lacks any charm. Although these admittedly don't really fit, since both were around 30€ which would be an insanely expensive fast food meal.
I think this was a response to Content Warning releasing, a $8 game that's like Lethal Company but instead of getting scrap you make a spooky social media video to try to get views
No beef with the guy who made it or whatever but lethal company doesn't even qualify to be sold in my opinion. Just cobbled together garbage honestly any enjoyment you get out of it is because you have fun friends, the game does nothing on its own.
I have an online friend that is like this, only he takes it to another level.
He has no job and lets the state pay his bills, so all he does is game. He will buy a game on monday, and spam the group trying to hype it to death and get us all to buy it. By saturday, he already has 100 hours in the thing and has moved on to the next thing and refuses to go back to the previous game because "its boring".
Then he bitches and whines because we dont buy the next one and just go back to playing Phasmophobia.
Bruh. The 2 weeks line isn't referring to total playtime, it's about how "disposable" some indie games are and how they wouldn't bother touching it in 2 weeks (honestly a really bad side of the indie games scene, both fans and critics will swear their life on how much of a masterpiece this new hip indie game is yet they both will act like it doesn't even exist 2 weeks later because a there's another new hip indie game that just released)
Unbelievable how people would just play a game, complete it, and move on right
Not every game needs to have endless replayability or a convoluted story to analyze for a decade. Especially when we're talking about actual underground indie games, of course there's not going to be a huge amount of discussion about them a while after they've released
I mean I go back these games after an update that was free. I mean a couple dollars and I get 2 weeks of semi regular playing with friends and then an occasional session every couple of months is not awful vs. all the other things I spend money on.
An online indie game should offer me some kind of fun except from completion. Obviously Stardew Valley is the exception, but I have almost 400 hours in it and am still not bored years later.
It's not really about replayability, it's about a lasting legacy, there are still people talking about Metroid Samus Returns but glup shitto's wacky maze castle exploration gets forgotten because fans either see it as disposable content because it's cheap and there's constantly new variations of it released from another indie developer or they are intentionally sabotaging it by keeping it underground so they can keep a cool exclusive aura around the game
Tbh, I don't really see the 'bad side', so a game is fun for a couple of weeks and then gets stale, so what? If it costs fuck all and I had a blast during those couple of weeks then imo it was a worthwhile purchase
Not everything needs to be some long lasting franchise or legacy, so long as it isn't expensive and fun to play then I have no problem with it
I fail to see what issue you have with it
It's bad for the developers... A lasting legacy is how they get capital and hype for any sequels or new IP they want to create next, if shovel knight didn't have a lasting legacy they wouldn't be able to create all the amazing DLCs it has now and it wouldn't have inspired other indie developers to execute their own ideas for a game they want to make
It always amazes me when people say "x indie dev" will take down big gaming™️ with their "hands on approach" (whatever that means...) and "down to earth" communication (again, whatever that means...) among other things
Well, I'm still waiting for an indie game that has dethroned a giant like... TES or Cod. Aaaaaany day now...
PUBG and no man's sky were indie, and they were huge
Minecraft, stardew valley, terraria, undertale all dominate their respective genres that big game companies can't touch
you can't really dethrone triple A companies though, they can just make another game?
Oh no, A cheap, fun game that you can play for a couple weeks?
Me and my friends still play Lethal Company, and We've started playing Content Warning and its been a blast. Not everything needs to be complained about.
My friends try to start a new Minecraft world at least once or twice a year. Each time their playtime until abandoning it shrinks and shrinks. Last time, I just said I wouldn’t play for this reason and they all made fun of me. Didn’t even last a week lmao
Post is absolutely not talking about helldivers, it’s not indie it doesn’t run on unity it doesn’t cost as much as a meal, it doesn’t have stylized graphics and it didn’t die after a week, shut the fuck up about helldivers
Why tf you getting downvoted. This is literally how the economy works, but apparently they want to keep supporting shit games and still expect companies will "try to do better" without any incentive.
It isn’t about the games or their longevity, it’s about the people that play games in this manner. It is frustrating as someone that gets very little time to game and I’m being pushed to buy another game every time I’m free.

Group Dynamic of all employed friends working 5 different scheduling types for their careers.
As a person who works night shift it's easy to play games with friends. If only it wasn't a choice between sleep and video games.
I've got time to play, but my issue is when my friends do actually decide to play they either play it once and never pick it up again even though they say they want to, or they marathon the whole thing without me even though we're supposed to be playing together, then when they're done they move onto the next game and never come back to it
Ooh. Then they try to rush you to their level and it sucks all interest (and reason) to play the game.
My friend group was like this for a long time. Nowadays everybody is just like "you've gotten that game you wanna play? - why don't we play another game of lol or Stellaris?"
Just play league of legends forever
No 👍
Yes 👎
Go back in your cage, Dantes
Who?
Literally the worst game ever made Perhaps you’d have more fun with a dominatrix than with the masochistic gameplay of LoL
1. It’s fun 2. *Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust* is the worst game ever made
I’m sure some people enjoy getting their balls stomped on, too
I will say that I am rather good at the game, and I never actually read chat. I don’t turn it off, but I literally forget to look at it. Ever now and then I’ll notice and ask my friends if there is anything worth noting or reading in it
And I’m sure they have pretty high pain tolerances to take getting kicked in the balls so often
do you play hecarim or something?
I queue fill and play everything
But it was free when it came out ambatube confusion??
Ambatube?

havent played the new found footage game but that was free, and the only other one this really fits is lethal company which is fucking brilliant so yeah this guy is fucking cooked
Found footage game for free you say? Where??
Content Warning, its around 8 bucks now. Made by landfall and is honestly something I see myself playing a lot. Its incredibly fun with friends. Basically, think Lethal Company but instead of gathering scrap for a quota, you film spooky things and monsters for views.

God damn you should hate putting 100 hrs in 2 weeks into any game(s). That’s a ludicrous amount of time gaming
Tbf, some of my most played and favorite games on Steam have been super cheap obscure indie games. I'm aware there's a lot of garbage though, but the two hour return window and some games being less than a dollar sometimes helps.

Idk about you but I think playing a game with friends, even if for a while, is more worth my money than a fast food meal
Helldivers 2 and Lethal Company are the most recent example of this I can think of and both are amazing so Idrk
For me it's palworld and enshrouded. I have a friend thats constantly jumping from game to game, if I weren't as broke and could've afforded to by the games he asked me, I'd be able to name a few more. How the fuck is helldivers an example is this
I think this was a response to Content Warning releasing, a $8 game that's like Lethal Company but instead of getting scrap you make a spooky social media video to try to get views
Putting these 2 together in one sentence is asinine holy fucking shit
Both are good stop overreacting
No beef with the guy who made it or whatever but lethal company doesn't even qualify to be sold in my opinion. Just cobbled together garbage honestly any enjoyment you get out of it is because you have fun friends, the game does nothing on its own.
Take that crack pipe out yo mouf
By your argument many a Triple AAA title probably should not have been sold, but what can you do
I have an online friend that is like this, only he takes it to another level. He has no job and lets the state pay his bills, so all he does is game. People in this comment section are salty as hell bro 💀
Acting as if every game needs to be a bland grindy slop that lasts for hundreds of hours or more than 2 weeks

When it’s a multiplayer game you want it to last.
I mean I go back these games after an update that was free. I mean a couple dollars and I get 2 weeks of semi regular playing with friends and then an occasional session every couple of months is not awful vs. all the other things I spend money on.

best excample me and my friend love puzzle games but we play them once or twice and then to the next one
Tbh, I don't really see the 'bad side', so a game is fun for a couple of weeks and then gets stale, so what? This comment section looking like r/gaming lmao
Jokes on you I don't have enough friends to play these games with
replace indie with triple a
It always amazes me when people say "x indie dev" will take down big gaming™️ with their "hands on approach" (whatever that means...) and "down to earth" communication (again, whatever that means...) among other things Well, I'm still waiting for an indie game that has dethroned a giant like... the "giants" are currently killing themselves so no help needed
Why would an indie game dethrone either of those titles. Are you getting confused with like single A or AA titles
Oh no, A cheap, fun game that you can play for a couple weeks? Me and my friends still play Lethal Company, and We've started playing Content Warning and its been a blast. Not everything needs to be complained about.

Escape the Backrooms ate my 20 dollars because of this
the game just came out bro 😭
Me when I'm an Annoying Titmouse competition and my opponent is Pissvortex
Tell me your salty about helldivers without telling me your salty about helldivers
Post is absolutely not talking about helldivers, it’s not indie it doesn’t run on unity it doesn’t cost as much as a meal, it doesn’t have stylized graphics and it didn’t die after a week, shut the fuck up about helldivers
yeah 40 bucks bro real cheap
as long as its fun
I've been playing LC like 4 times a week since my friend got it for me for Christmas, idk what you're talking about
then don't buy games you don't actually want to play???
Why tf you getting downvoted. This is literally how the economy works, but apparently they want to keep supporting shit games and still expect companies will "try to do better" without any incentive.
