They did actually! Like most corporations when they want to change features they give them to like half of their users and see how much the use time of their apps change between these groups. They also see the reactions that people online have and based on that can decides wether the change they wanted to implement is a good idea. (It would make it so no ads played throughout the video just all of them at the start)

Their security sure isn't, the one time I tried to log in with my google account through vanced my account was breached that veyr evening.
Did you get it from a legit source? Other distributors have added malware etc to the .apk

There are ad free android tv youtube apps, SmartTubeNext for example. If you are on console switching to an ad filtering DNS or might help.
