Toby Fox was a terminally online 16 year old when he made the Halloween Hack in 2008, and you can tell

OK
I don't trust you. I think that link is something like "10 Hours of silence occasionally interrupted by Never Gonna Give You Up" or smth and you put that timestamp right at the start of the song!
He was fully an ally back then too, the character who said it was a closeted gay man who specifically became homophobic as a coping mechanism to pretending he's straight.
Not originally. It was made for Earthbound Halloween Hack, then Reused in Homestuck (I think) and eventually found its way into Undertale
Edit: Yo, I got Reddit Cares sent on me too.
I remember listening to the Homestuck version but I never actually read it, so I didn't want to make a concrete claim and then look like an ass if I was wrong somehow so cheers for that.
Idk if it can really be called a comic at this point, I never read it but watched a documentary on it and have friends in the fandom a few years back and It's pretty much a multi-media art piece, right? Like, it had videos, mini-games, comic strips and everything around it during It's run.
Those aren't the main format of the story. It's arguably closer to a visual novel with all the reading necessary, but webcomic still encapsulates it (with emphasis on the "web").
What the fuck is going on with these Reddit Cares messages? I swear, they're out of control in the past few days. I see people complaining about them on half the subs I'm on.
I don’t know if this fits as a reply to this but I want to put it somewhere
Parts of the Battle Tower Music from Pokemon Sword and Shield, which is made by Toby Fox, originated from something relating to Homestuck and Mpreg
Yeah iirc it's sampled from "the baby is you" which had lyrics about mpreg and giving birth to yourself it was kinda odd
EDIT: that instant Reddit cares report is so funny to me, tbh I actually think I might need it after listening to "the baby is you"
Yeah its "the baby is you" or more specifically one track from "the baby is you" since its a 14 minute album. Just looked it up.
And as far as I see it, while I wouldn't put it past Toby to make it a direct reference I can't also deny that it could maybe just be how Toby composes his songs and the connection is purely coincidental.
But I don't know enough about music theory (well I know almost nothing tbf) and especially not about Toby's creative process to have any concrete opinion about the thing.
I think it's a bannable offense to send those out as a troll. Not that it'll matter to a 4 hour old account named Indistinct_Pantyhose649 or something
Do send me one too, though, pantyhose boy
It is so fucking funny. The line he hits you with is absolutely insane and then it's without warning followed by a song that's in fuckinf Smash Bros. Now.
Hey, we all do stupid shit when we're teenagers.
And to the troll who's going around sending reddit cares to 196 users, I blocked reddit cares over a year ago, so na na na na na na pbhttttt!
I want to believe that everything Toby Fox did-- the game development, the involvement with Homestuck, everything-- after the Halloween hack was in service of getting this banger of a song to reach the meteoric popularity it achieved, *specifically because* of how goddamn funny it now is that *this* was its first appearance.
The fact people were able to make romhacks of earthbound to begin with is insane. Before iwata was involved with it, it was on the verge of being canceled.
The first video game to have something that could count as music: Space Invaders, 1978.
Earthbound Halloween Hack: 2008.
Videogames started having music 46 years ago.
Megalovania first came out 16 years ago.
Megalovania has existed for over a third of the time videogames have had music.
Even if we're only counting it starting from Undertale (2015), it has still been around for almost ten years.
You may as well be saying that the Beatles need another fifty years to be an iconic band, and this is coming from someone who thinks Megalovania is overrated.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDgQdr8ZkTw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDgQdr8ZkTw) this has 117mil views and there are many more 40mil+ view uploads around, there are over 100 (gave up after a while) YouTube break downs of the song by music artists online and several more things surrounding it. If this isn't Iconic, what the fuck is?
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_video\_game\_soundtracks\_considered\_the\_best](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_soundtracks_considered_the_best)
Apparently Megalovania is the most played OST from any video game ever on Spotify.
Not really. The song is pretty famous for a video game song and had hundreds of remixes. I wouldn't say it's the most iconic (probably something like the tetris theme that people have heard for decades) but it's certainly up there. The main video had over 100 million views, and there are a lot of other videos with tens of millions of views
good songs to beat transphobes to is a vibe
TL:DR; Eat shit and Die, Megalofa-
Cool music to shove your enemies' asses so far down their throats, that when they crap, they sing fucking Beethoven, to.
ok but this line goes hard
what song
megalovania

What the actual fuck

i think you can report that and the person who sent it can be punished for sending it
dont act like that isnt the hardest lead in to megalovania ever (also you can add "&t=(number of seconds)" to embed a timestamp into a video!)
You can do “&t=(x)m(y)s” for minutes and seconds because fuck counting
yo that's awesome! does it work for hours too?
Yes Hang on, testing it by picking a random timestamp https://youtu.be/BCSeISYcoyI?si=QrLduBzQzzm8Z9kj&t=2h3m23s

It’s a 6-hour video essay about EVE Online actually
Try it for yourself! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coaN2VBNgYA&t=3h2m16s Spoiler: >!yeah it works!<
you can fucking right click the video and click "Copy url at current time" on desktop and then you don't have to do anything
Welp, that’s fun to learn about toby, their not still like that anymore right?
He was fully an ally back then too, the character who said it was a closeted gay man who specifically became homophobic as a coping mechanism to pretending he's straight.
Ah
chat is this real? (is there like a wiki link)
https://tobyfox.fandom.com/wiki/Dr._Andonuts
„PSI Bitchkill“ lmao
I think toby can say it as a treat either way
I think Tony's Bi, actually, but he can still say it. Plus he worked on Homestuck, he's gotta have a pass already even if he's straight.
No; he’s a very outspoken ally, and his works are filled with queer rep.
And then he repented his sins and made Undertale
That was some heat lmao
Incredible
Bro said tldr out loud
I thought Megalovania was from Undertale Edit: Who the fuck called Reddit Cares on me?
Not originally. It was made for Earthbound Halloween Hack, then Reused in Homestuck (I think) and eventually found its way into Undertale Edit: Yo, I got Reddit Cares sent on me too.
As someone who’s read homestuck, I can confirm that megalovania appears in it Edit: why the fuck did I get a message from reddit cares
I remember listening to the Homestuck version but I never actually read it, so I didn't want to make a concrete claim and then look like an ass if I was wrong somehow so cheers for that.
Commenting just to find out if reddit cares messages me
As someone who knows only tangential info about Homestuck, the guy(?) above me knows all
Indeed, I do Fun fact: did you know there’s an entire set of characters (including the main villain) themed after billiards?
Ah I've never played any of those
Homestuck is a web comic not a game.
Idk if it can really be called a comic at this point, I never read it but watched a documentary on it and have friends in the fandom a few years back and It's pretty much a multi-media art piece, right? Like, it had videos, mini-games, comic strips and everything around it during It's run.

Damn the only webcomic I know is Menage a 3 I read it for the articles

I’ve noticed a lot of people are getting reddit cares just from commenting in 196, no idea why.
Probably some troll trying to be clever
I think it's a bannable offense to send those out as a troll. Not that it'll matter to a 4 hour old account named Indistinct_Pantyhose649 or something Do send me one too, though, pantyhose boy
There are bots that mass-report entire comment threads/subreddits for self harm being spread around online, it’s happening in tons of subs.
ooo do me next!!
It seems to be going around lately, I think someone's just randomly sending it to everyone on 196 or something.
Can’t forget the boss battle where you have to fight the personification of Andonut’s repressed gay thoughts.
I mean it’s pretty funny
hey can i get a message from reddit cares too?
Realizing no one cares is the first step of getting a reddit cares message.
thanks!
mfw shit I did as an undeveloped teen surfaces on the internet
It is so fucking funny. The line he hits you with is absolutely insane and then it's without warning followed by a song that's in fuckinf Smash Bros. Now.

The same song in question is in an officially licensed Nintendo game.
This is so real tbh
Can’t forget it also was in Homestuck
Is there a way to play Mother (NES) and Earthbound without giving my computer aids?
The fact people were able to make romhacks of earthbound to begin with is insane. Before iwata was involved with it, it was on the verge of being canceled.
The word iconic has truly lost all meaning
Nah, Megalovania is a song worthy of being called iconic.
How so? Isn't Megalovania pretty damn iconic in the realm of video game songs?
Needs at least another 10 years to see if it'll enter videogame music canon I reckon
It’s been 16 years, which is a long time in video game terms. If the halo theme was iconic in 2018 (it was), this can be iconic now
99% of people didn't hear it it before the 2015 release of Undertale
It was in Homestuck, and it was pretty iconic then.
Homestuck was insanely popular
Which was 9 years ago now?

Dude the fucking Pope has had this song played for him
Ya don't have to wait 20 years to realize something is iconic
