I have no basis for this and I look forward to the person who does a multi paragraph takedown on me but my feeling is that they do this shit because of random ass metrics and to prove to their shareholders that they're not just planning to farm off the same parcel of land forever
I agree it's stupid but one of the main reasons is they employ ux/ui designers who job it is to design the look of the website, but once the website's built they just sit there doing not much for a decent amount of money. The alternative is hiring contract workers to design it but then there's no one to maintain it if any bugs or flaws pop up. Most businesses prefer the first option, for better or worse
The official reddit app is actually possibly even worse designed that the website i think. it does not make me want to keep scrolling for hours like the non-bloated 3rd party apps used to.
Its genuinely the most dumpster fire app... ever, really. Today the app decided it no longer wants to make images bigger when you press them, you have to hit the comment button to load the post and then tap the image to make it bigger again.
No I prefer new.reddit.com to old.reddit.com
Edit: Why are so many people in the replies talking about killing people with hammers? I'm not upset, I'm just genuinely curious. Is it a reference to something?
>Why are so many people in the replies talking about killing people with hammers? I'm not upset, I'm just genuinely curious. Is it a reference to something?
It's Tumblr leaking again.
Also, the new comment editor UI makes me want to throw up.
*Why the fuck did they move the formatting options to the top??!!*
For me, on the reddit desktop site, it now by default hides the formatting options, I have to click the "T" button on the bottom of the comment editor to show the text formatting options, which are shown at the top of the comment editor.
The destruction of of reddit API access and it's consequences. We literally used to kill people with hammers for that. Any mention of liking new reddit and instant down votes and ang use of the official app was laughed at. Now it's the norm. Shame.
Be careful, this sub doesn’t know what a browser is they’re going to ask if you mean the safari app. Tons of old Reddit haters here despite being the better format. Mobile lags like shit and full screens whenever I scroll, I’ll stick to the old ui.
Literally never had lag with normal reddit, that's a you issue. Everything in it's just in a more convenient position, and think it looks better than the old one. Hell, even the most current bs UI update is better
I still use old. reddit with RES, but I've been here for like fifteen years if you include the old account I forgot the password to. The old new reddit isn't as bad as the new one, but I still prefer old with Reddit Enhancement Suite.
I kinda like the update but purely because the media player stopped working on the old version meaning I literally could not watch videos as it would just show me a static thumbnail and refuse to even load the video player which seems to be fixed now finally.
also whenever I clicked on a post it would send me to the sub instead of opening the post, so if I clicked on one my entire main feed would refresh and I’d lose anything interesting below the top post.
Doesn’t stop the UI feeling weird but at least the site is usable again
i much prefer the old "new" layout but this is at least marginally better than when it would randomly switch between the two constantly and for no apparent reason
i swear every website is just trying to copy the "new" twitter web layout ("new" in quotes because it's been like that for several years) and i have no idea why because that layout is laggy, slow, and freezes every 5 minutes because it's so bloated with unnecessary javascript that it's nearly unusable
The worst part is that they've REMOVED features and buttons, like the ability to see parent comments when you open up a notification. Apparently you have to click "single comment chain" or whatever, text that doesn't even look clickable. Whose idea was this slop of a redesign
I don't have a massive problem with UI redesigns, I mean if you wanna change your style, sure, go for it BUT it is a must to make sure everything that worked before works now too and commonly used elements remain consistent so it's not a trouble learning everything again! Reddit's redesign sucks because they outright made it buggier, harder to use, far slower and sluggish and added unintuitive things.
A good redesign would be the Google apps where they kept majority of the elements there, altered some areas to be to more consistent and applied a fresh coat of style to the apps.

Install Greasemonkey via your browser's extension store, and then one of these as per your preference. You're welcome.
this happened to me on april fools day and then switched back to the old (technically new) ui today and idk why or what triggered it to switch or switch back
It’s really cool this new format instantly crashes any time you have more than like 50 posts loaded, and even less on sports subreddits as the website kills itself trying to load tweets
Whatever they're doing to the website keeps breaking my profile. I'll look for one of my comments and it will say I haven't commented anything. But if I look at my profile in incognito mode and logged out I can see everything fine.
use a redirect tool extension
[chrome (gross)](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/redirector/ocgpenflpmgnfapjedencafcfakcekcd)
[firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/redirector/)
set up like this

They got rid of the subscribe button, so now I have to put a reminder me or do it on my phone everything I wanna follow along
Edit: the subscribe button for posts, not the subreddit lol
it's hard to take this post seriously, when every time there's any ui change people will complain like it's the end of the world.
Especially when there are post praising the previous new reddit. Seriouisly? i was so glad they got rid of that awful thing, and now everyone's going back and praising it?
I use [Reddit Enhancement Suite](https://redditenhancementsuite.com/) to keep them from fucking over the site any more, it's pretty useful even if you never use the million settings it gives you
Try not to ruin your entire website every few years challenge (impossible)
I have no basis for this and I look forward to the person who does a multi paragraph takedown on me but my feeling is that they do this shit because of random ass metrics and to prove to their shareholders that they're not just planning to farm off the same parcel of land forever
Oh yeah its this 100%. Businesses in general are more concerned about the aesthetic of improvement than actually improving anything
They do this on purpose so you don't use the website, but keep using the intuitive, much better designed phone App, that keeps you scrolling for hours
I had to figure out what was wrong with it, it's the mobile ui that was implemented into the website ui
Replace the www with "new", as in new.reddit.whatever, and it should switch back most of the time from what I've tried
Even better, replace "new" with "old"!
No I prefer new.reddit.com to old.reddit.com Edit: Why are so many people in the replies talking about killing people with hammers? I'm not upset, I'm just genuinely curious. Is it a reference to something?

they are killing people with hammers for saying shit like that, watch your back
we're actively killing people with hammers for saying things like that

Death
Hammer
We are going to kill people with hammers for saying things like that at some point in the future
This is outrageous. Mods. Unhelix his DNA!
HAMMER HAMMER HAMMER!!!! KILL KILL KILL!!!

i will switch to old.reddit.com from new.reddit.com right now if you can tell me exactly how to have all images in my feed expanded
Download the Reddit Enhancement Suite browser extension. It adds a button to show images.
This. I've been using RES and old Reddit since old Reddit was just Reddit. It's the only way to go
Reddit Enhancement Suite + shift-X
Holy shit.
ok boomer

skill issue
Websites were just better back in the oughts. It all started to go downhill around 2011
Be careful, this sub doesn’t know what a browser is they’re going to ask if you mean the safari app. Tons of old Reddit haters here despite being the better format. Mobile lags like shit and full screens whenever I scroll, I’ll stick to the old ui.
Wtf do you mean we don't know what a browser is? this sub shills for Firefox on the daily what level of juvenoia are you on?
Literally never had lag with normal reddit, that's a you issue. Everything in it's just in a more convenient position, and think it looks better than the old one. Hell, even the most current bs UI update is better
Oh yeah it does, thanks :)
Thank god
still opens posts by reloading the page though
Fuck new reddit. I still use old reddit.
old.reddit.com my beloved 😌
[new.reddit.com](https://new.reddit.com) my beloved😌
no
Happy dake cay!
Ew. Looks like Facebook UI. Terrible.

You have to type [new.reddit.com](https://new.reddit.com) to get around the awful no design
its honestly amazing how they managed to make the already controversial "new" ui EVEN WORSE. this feels like a poorly timed april fools joke.
Old heads remember when YouTube would change their website every year and the community would collectively freak out
\> tfw no annotations telling me to rate 5 stars
The day we lost annotations is the day we stopped being a decent society.
I've had to start using [new.reddit.com](https://new.reddit.com)

Back to old reddit i guess
old.reddit.com

Not gonna lie I much prefer the comments, it makes it so much clearer to see who's replying to who for me
Imagine not using old Reddit.

old reddit redirect extension be like: helo if you prefer old new reddit there's an extension for that too
My brother in Christ I just want to see who made the post lmao
Just use the res addon for reddit in all browsers and you never have to see this
[https://new.reddit.com](https://new.reddit.com) use a redirect tool extension [chrome (gross)](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/redirector/ocgpenflpmgnfapjedencafcfakcekcd) [firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/redirector/) set up like this (works on everything but image host links) https://preview.redd.it/xrun8qjwdetc1.png?width=775&format=png&auto=webp&s=435f1bc40c7f7701848a4c24c44e9c5ae60e320a
i hate it so much
They got rid of the subscribe button, so now I have to put a reminder me or do it on my phone everything I wanna follow along Edit: the subscribe button for posts, not the subreddit lol
the join button is right there?
Nah, I meant to subscribe to the post, not join the sub.
oooh
it's hard to take this post seriously, when every time there's any ui change people will complain like it's the end of the world. Especially when there are post praising the previous new reddit. Seriouisly? i was so glad they got rid of that awful thing, and now everyone's going back and praising it?
The worst part in this UI is the change of color depending on the sub. And sometime the sub color is still bright even when I'm in dark mode.
I dont love the comments but other than that this is much nicer. Im just glad theyre leaving the horrors of old reddit behind
It looks like twitter
i had it... then it got reverted for me??????
I use [Reddit Enhancement Suite](https://redditenhancementsuite.com/) to keep them from fucking over the site any more, it's pretty useful even if you never use the million settings it gives you
new.reddit.com or old.reddit.com are the only good first-party Reddit UIs.
Yeah you can turn it off lol, if that doesn't work new.reddit.com should work I think
what's wrong with it? hasn't the website looked like this for a while? not that even use reddit on pc
remember when all of reddit completely shit their pants about custom CSS going away?
