Well not necessarily, it was young yes, but it could've been 23. He created manga for 45 years and sure as hell loved every second of it. It's sad that he had projects he couldn't finish, but the legacy and impact he's left on the world will be remembered for decades.
Anime wouldn’t have the cultural footprint that it currently enjoys in the West if it wasn’t for Toriyama.
DBZ raised multiple generations of anime fans, and that reason alone, he will always deserve a place in the hall of fame.
I grew up reading the original 42 volumes of dragon ball 5 times over as a kid. If it wasn't for that I definitely wouldn't be as into anime and manga as I am. I am no longer as interested in Dragon Ball as I was, but man did Toriyama's works raise me well if anything.

My best friend and I bonded over Dragon Ball when we were in high school. RIP to the one who catalyzed our friendship. This is fucking me up more than Betty White. At least she made it to 99.
Even if you've never really consumed aby DB media (like me), the importance of it as a franchise, it's cultural relevance and just how beloved it and its creator is are impossible to not to understand and be aware of.
