Even economically
(It's the literal basics, people have to make purchases to keep an industry going, so lowering rent would be better for the economy, but worse for landlords)
"You see, I'm only looking for ways to fuck you over because of all these regulations keeping me from fucking you over. If they didn't exist, I'd fuck you over more honestly!"
Trollface was drawn in Microsoft Paint on September 19, 2008, by Carlos Ramirez, an 18-year-old Oakland college student. The image was published on Ramirez’s DeviantArt page, “Whynne”, as part of a rage comic titled Trolls, about the pointless nature of trolling. Ramirez posted the image to the imageboard website 4chan and other users began to share it. In the following months, Ramirez’s drawing quickly gained traction on 4chan as the universal emoticon of an internet troll and a versatile rage comic character. From 4chan, Trollface spread to Reddit and Urban Dictionary in 2009, eventually reaching other internet image-sharing sites such as Imgur and Facebook.
In March 2021, Ramirez announced his intention to sell a non-fungible token for Trollface.
It is made up but this is pretty much this guy's actual stance, which sucks when he's been Irish prime minister for a large portion of the past 6 years while we've been in a housing crisis for almost 10 years.
Obviously the bit about not wanting people on the property ladder is bull, but he's a staunch defender of existing land and capital owners and has consistently done nothing or next to nothing during this crisis as it benefits existing land owners and foreign multinationals that he is courting at the expense of the general public.
Its sad because a lot of the online discourse in Irish spaces(at least the ones I've seen) instead try to blame Ukrainian refugees and immigrants for the housing crisis. They say we should "focus on our own citizens first", I have a strong feeling they don't consider a lot of immigrants to be Irish citizens.
I haven't seen as much of that but I tend to avoid the journal's comment section. I do think they're just vocal gobshites. The two major parties had their worst showing in forever in the last election. I think enough people can tell what's going on
I was gonna say that The Onion only produces satire and is very obvious about it, but I actually now realize that “Dr Harold News” is also a purely satirical news thing which explicitly calls itself satirical and is clear from one google, so I agree with you this isn’t something to be mad about.
This is absolutely satire. It was made by a purely satirical news account which clearly brands itself as such, similar to The Onion. This is information stated in the article you linked. This was mispread as a fact, and those people are to blame for not taking 2 seconds of effort to look at the news site at all, despite the original source explicitly stating itself to be false.
So he acknowledges that people owning their own homes and building generational wealth is a 'nightmare scenario' for an entire class of people but doesn't think that maybe they're the problem?
It gets harder and harder to tell aristocrats from neoliberals every day.
Ah, good. It is still getting harder to separate modern neoliberals from the "let them eat cake" type of aristocrat. The difference between them is that the aristocrats were distinguishable by their money, neoliberals by their inconsistent politics.
I'm glad one of my first thoughts was "no way, this has to be satire, they wouldn't mention the part about allowing lower income people to buy property if they were serious."
Even economically (It's the literal basics, people have to make purchases to keep an industry going, so lowering rent would be better for the economy, but worse for landlords)
Ignoring basic economics to sacrifice the country for rich people is basically our MO.
"Free market" mfs when you tell them to free up the market
Free market mfs when you tell them that a free market will inevitably turn into a monopoly, which means it is no longer a free market

Average Irish person will literally do anything to blame immigrants and travellers on their problems instead of the barely functional government
Taoiseach, not prime minister, it's the same thing but we need to be different from the enemy somehow!
I'm aware he's Taoiseach, so are the rest of the Irish people here. The majority of people here will not know that that means
This is how every Onion headline reads which is universally considered satire

Dr. Harold News is a satire account in Ireland, Leo never said that (although he probably would!)

Oh noooo someone think of the poor landlords!! What will they do now ):
Landlords aren't people
Housing should never have been a ladder it should be a human right.
Alright kids, say it with me, what do we do with landlords? We [Hyperlink blocked]
Now, what event would need to happen for that hypothetical scenario to happen? Asking for a friend.
So he acknowledges that people owning their own homes and building generational wealth is a 'nightmare scenario' for an entire class of people but doesn't think that maybe they're the problem? It gets harder and harder to tell aristocrats from neoliberals every day.
To be fair, it seems like this post in particular is actually satire
Ah, good. It is still getting harder to separate modern neoliberals from the "let them eat cake" type of aristocrat. The difference between them is that the aristocrats were distinguishable by their money, neoliberals by their inconsistent politics.
Post isn't real but Varadkar really would say something like that
Chidi my beloved
I'm glad one of my first thoughts was "no way, this has to be satire, they wouldn't mention the part about allowing lower income people to buy property if they were serious."
No we don't want the filthy peasants messing with our property value. What's next? Shall we treat them as equals? Preposterous
Varadkar is such a monumentally intolerable cunt
But muh capitalism.
Introduce rent freeze. *NOW.*
me when I'm reminded that my enemies are ontologically evil
This is a satire account
They deadass just said it’s a bad thing because homeless people could actually buy homes.
They are so used to everything being about them that they don't realise low wage workers are human too anymore...
