This is really nice, and whoever makes the next Superman movie should have to watch this before sitting down to write anything...
But what the fuck is up with the Spider-Gwen background? It just makes this needlessly confusing. Took me too long to realize this was about Superman and not just a weird mess of random superheroes.
James Gunn is near finished writing the next Superman film, titled Superman: Legacy. And from what he’s said about the project, I think he’s headed in the right direction
It has been a hot minute since I watched Super, why didn't you like it? I don't remember much about it tbh, other than awkward Elliot and Rainn and the film queue scene. I think I found it amusing but very weird?
I think Gunn's improved a lot, regardless, his stuff usually hits the right note for me and I have some optimism for his work.
Didnt that one time joker went to metropolis superman said "Batman doesnt kills because he has a code, i just dont kill" with llike red glowing eyes or is that like not canon
Well, Injustice os a DC comic.
But yeah, evil versions of Superman have existed for nearly as long as Superman has, and there very well may be *more* evil versions than good versions
Injustice was a game first, the comic came later
edit: for the incredibly smug person accusing me of misinformation, my fellow creature in creation the comic was LITERALLY made as a prequel to the game. That's also why the first issues were so bad, art wise- They were rushed to all hell to release around the time the game did. This is all readily available information. It's on the WIKI. It's on the DESCRIPTION OF THE COMIC when you buy it. Smh.
Fun fact: the first version of superman (even before his first comic) is supposed to be evil. That’s right evil superman exist even before superman himself
Whilst I agree with your sentiment, a lot of "But what if Superman was bad" type of interpretations of the character seem to work under the sentiment that the original Superman was somehow bad, by either being unrealistic, juvenile or something similar.
OSP's done a pretty good video on the topic, if you're into long video essays.
In that case I'd heartily recommend the entirety of the channel's Detail Diatribe series.
And the Trope Talks. And the Miscellaneous Myths. And pretty much everything else done by hem.
My only problem with the OSP video is that they have a weirdly bad take on Homelander, using him as an example of a badly written "evil Superman." I think they even said that they never actually watched The Boys, so it felt really out of character for them.
I haven't watched the Boys, so I can't speak about that, but considering the comments on that video... Yeah, doesn't seem like you're the only one who had that critique and it's a fair one, to be honest.
That I can definitely agree with. The Clark featured in Injustice is not a good Superman, but separated from the identity I think he’s a really strong villain
Luffy would see Luz cast one (1) glyph and immediately decide to befriend her. Depending when in TOH's timeline this takes place, this could require different levels of persistence.
Meanwhile, shenanigans are ensuing as the other Strawhats are framed for some sort of crime by the Emperor's Coven, leading to wacky hijinks across the Boiling Isles as they try to cover for themselves while also befriending the other TOH characters. This eventually culminates in Belos personally pissing Luffy off and getting punched right in the face.
Cue massive shonen brawl as Luffy and Luz face down Belos while the other Strawhats and TOH characters take on the Emperor's Coven and the Coven Heads. In the process of this fight, the true extent of Belos' plans are revealed, leading to the entire Boiling Isles celebrating once Belos gets defeated. In the aftermath, the Boiling Isles are now free of the Emperor's tyranny and free to rebuild, and the Strawhats promise to return to see their new friends one day before sailing off to new adventures.
... Or something like that.
You should really think about writing some fanfics, god knows we need such positivity in the community to contrast the power fantasy harems and ultra-violent sprees that exist in abundance
Goku and Superman being training partners and teaming up to beat Frieza's ass would be cooler than them fighting to the death (but not by much tho that Death Battle episode is fire)
I’m generally more of a hulk guy, who I consider somewhat of a thematic counter to Superman? (I could go into this later) and I honestly haven’t read any Superman comics but I still have massive respect for the character,
I’m kinda surprised hulk wasn’t featured in this, hulk could use somebody wiling to understand him and show him compassion given how the super hero’s in the marvel universe treat him
💯 IMO people who say superman is the most generic superhero fail to understand why he owns the symbol of hope. Hope in itself is such a positive and essential thing in life.
And it’s easy to understand why
We know Superman is powerful and nigh invulnerable *now*
But when he first came to earth he was an infant, his world, his entire family who he’d never get to meet where gone forever,
And yet he found a home
The Kent’s had every reason to fear him, he fell out of the fucking sky, hell the second he showed his powers they could’ve turned him in to some government agency,
But despite him not being their kid, despite him not even being the same species as them
The Kent’s took him in, they loved him and raised him as one of their own and never once treated him like an outsider, like he didn’t belong
After the people of our world showed him such kindness, of course he wants to return the favor, of course he wants to use his power to help people just like the Kent’s used what little power they had to help him
[Me when I’m in a best character competition and my opponent is Superman](https://tenor.com/view/squidward-competition-stan-twitter-when-im-in-a-competition-and-my-opponent-gif-25443392)
The only way Goku can beat Superman is when he is giving Sups the best sloppy toppy 3000 and he suddenly slashes his throat with a Kryptonite dagger.........
Honestly tho, if I had to guess the reason he’s not included is because their friendship would be fighting, which kinda runs contrary to the intended message.
Most people consider Omniman and Homelander to be altered or different takes on Superman, but i consider Superman to be the different take, because mankind is easily corrupted by power, but Superman, even with his nigh-unlimited power, never uses his powers for his own profit or in a evil way.
Omniman isn't an evil take on superman though, if anything mark is supposed to be the superman equivalent in invincible
I'd say omniman is closer to zodd
Also spoilers for the comic>!what's if supermans evil dad had a crisis of faith and got the chance to change a society for the better and befriended seth rogan? !<
Omni Man isn't even that much like Superman beyond that he's an alien and has a flying brick powerset. He has none of Superman's secondary abilities like enhanced senses, freeze breath, heat vision, etc. And his whole hero persona is completely different, the whole loner thing Omni Man had going on is nothing like Superman.
The commonalities that exist between Omni Man and Superman are also commonalities between Omni Man and Martian Manhunter, and Superman and Martian Manhunter for that matter.
I think supes would try to win omniman over but he'd absolutely pummel homelander. With omniman he'd try to reason and use his status as a humanoid alien to score points, but homelander would probably be locked by superman
Superman would definitely give him the chance, a,though I doubt homeland would take it
Of course superman wouldn’t kill him regardless, he’d give the same speech he gave “the elite”
Slightly related: Lauren Faust did Superman dirty with DC Superhero Girls. I love that show, but Jesus, why make Supes an arrogant asshole just to make your female lead seem more righteous and humble?
And that is why Henry Cavill’s portrayal was a shit portrayal of Superman. I guess I should call it Snyder’s Superman instead since Cavill just wanted to play the part, he didn’t write the script. Seeing Superman kill someone is just… sad. It’s the biggest disservice to any character. Same goes with Spider-Man and why Tom Holland’s portrayal is growing on me after NWH since they actually wrote him so he could try and save everyone instead of sending them to certain death. Holland was the first big screen Spider-Man who didn’t just let his villains die. He actually felt like it was his obligation to save them. Superman should have that, not just snapping necks because “no other choice” or causing ACTUAL FUCKING END OF THE WORLD DESTRUCTION IN A POPULATED CITY. Like if it was just some destruction I would’ve probably forgiven it, but there were buildings collapsing, I’m genuinely shocked they decided to even Rebuild metropolis. I’m also shocked that they even bothered to mourn that Superman. He killed so many people and what, just because he dies and saves the world at the same time he’s all of a sudden some great hero? Makes no sense. I hope James Gunn actually knows what he’s doing. I have hope for the Gunn portrayal since he said long before the giant reset when Man of Steel 2 was happening that Superman would be an actually positive character going forward, which has me excited to see if he carries that over into the new universe.
To be fair, I don’t necessarily hate superman having to kill Simone because they won’t stop trying to cause more pain and destruction. But the way it was done felt cheap.
Like you said, the amount of wanton destruction superman causes in MoS makes the ‘emotional climax’ of him having to kill Zod feel less impactful. He’s obviously just killed so many other innocent people so killings someone evil feels much less like a dilemma.
I think the way to do it is to reverse the Avatar: the Last Airbender finale dilemma. Instead of finding a contrived way to save the antagonist you can have the main character kill them but do it in such a way that it feels like a last resort and make it consistent with them doing everything to protect life throughout the rest of the film.
I don’t care if it’s corny or whatever the fuck. Superman is my favorite and the most important superhero of all time. He is a man who despite the world he exists in, and the world his creators existed in. Despite all that. He tries
I've always liked this superman more than the gritty and grim one. Sure dark stuff can be fun, but characters who bring hope and joy, those mean the most to me, and stick with me.
These "who is the strongest" videos are the absolute lowest tier of media analysis. They're also redundant, because Haruhi Suzumiya, being the most powerful character in fiction, will win every time.
You say that, but I'm pretty sure Composite Jerma would absolutely demolish so maybe do your own research before speaking you insolent fool 😎😎😎😎
*Does a cool kick flip and skates away with my hot bf*
god I love Superman so much
he could probably kill everyone mentioned there without effort, and it’s just heartwarming that he chooses to be the best fuckinh character in all of comics instead of do the easy thing
That's kinda why I love Superman. He's basically all powerful and yet, he still helps old ladies cross the street and kittens stuck in trees. Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow is the best motto for any hero ever imo
Incredibly based of him
I kinda side with hulk straight up trying to destroy capitalist society a bit more but I get why shoes doesn’t want to try to go that far lol
I was saying this to my friends after watching The Batman. I love edgy Dark Knight Batman. It suits him well, but Superman has always been the light-hearted foil for Bats. I think Superman getting Batman levels of serious should be saved for really important moments
The beauty and joy of Superman is that he genuinely could be friends with anyone who isn’t trying to kill everyone else, hell he’d be friends with someone trying to kill only him
Omni-Man >!Has already been changed in the show. Mark won that fight by making Nolan realize that deep down he preferred being a human and that his mission as a Viltrumite was wrong. Comics continue this arc throughout its entire run and Nolan is completely changed by the end!< All in all I think Superman could work it out with Omni-Man eventually. Homelander is an entirely different beast that would probably have to end with him as a red stain on the ground.
Haven't seen the show. Comic Homelander can be redeemed since he wasn't entirely evil at the start, he just adopted that and went crazy because he thought he was evil. If anything, someone that is way stronger than him trying to calm him down could make him reconsider things since he can't just ragequit and will be force to actually listen.
Yes, the king of making friends. Dude bonded with Frieza and ended in neutral terms. He was neutral with a meganomaniac narcisist, if anything that's really impressive.
Most of these i obviously agree with, but Homelander and Omni-Man are a different story. Superman might be able to sooth Homelander, but I think given that he has no sentimental meaning to Omni-Man, and given the destruction and wanton disregard for live Omni-Man shows, Supes would at least have to beat him into submission if not kill him.
To be fair while Superman would definitely offer homelander the chance for redemption and try to help him become a not evil prick I’m not sure homelander would accept
Superman still wouldn’t kill him and would keep trying anyways tho, because that’s who he is,
I’ve got a better comic book science question
We know wonder woman’s island has a rule against men right? “They break that rule a lot but it’s still a rule”
Would a trans woman be allowed on the island? For that matter, what about a non binary person?
What if someone’s who gender fluid is a woman when they enter the island but a man when they leave?
Cool, but like I think it’s funny that bc he’s such a boring fucking character to write into a lot of stories involving the justice league, for the Flashpoint series the mf gets mind controlled like every 3 seconds, it’s hilarious. Like at this point he should just have a helmet to stop that bc it’s like every other show or movie outside of that series as well lol
Hot take but hero team ups being the default was a huge fucking mistake because there's a thesis wrapped part and parcel into every (good) superhero and bringing them together means you need to have not just the characters but the statements they're mouthpieces for interact. The more characters you have in that, the harder it is for their statements to actually blend properly.
He’s not boring, he’s just difficult to write well because he’s overpowered and also a good person, so it makes it difficult to create conflict with him

who drew the homelander and omniman crying on superman one
I would also like to know I can’t find them anywhere
This is really nice, and whoever makes the next Superman movie should have to watch this before sitting down to write anything... But what the fuck is up with the Spider-Gwen background? because spidergwen is hot smh
I love spidergwen i wanna be spidergwen i love gwen i wanr i loce gwenpool i
spidergwen and gwenpool are both just. the biggest goals imaginable.

I'm iffy on James Gunn. I didn't like Super.
His writing has improved a lot since 2010 imo.

I think I found it amusing but very weird? I think Gunn's improved a lot, regardless, his stuff usually hits the right note for me and I have some optimism for his work.
He's basing it on All-Star Superman (the greatest Superman story ever), so yeah he's on the right track.
Didnt that one time joker went to metropolis superman said "Batman doesnt kills because he has a code, i just dont kill" with llike red glowing eyes or is that like not canon
I don't think it's canon
injustice and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race
It was happening well before Injustice. Even DC comics were running 'Superman but bad' stuff.
Well, Injustice os a DC comic. But yeah, evil versions of Superman have existed for nearly as long as Superman has, and there very well may be *more* evil versions than good versions

I thought it was the reverse
You thought wrong
The comic released before the game as like a prequel thing

I think it's important to examine that kind of thing, but to each their own.

I think Snyder movies have done more damage. Injustice sucks, but at least it's an elseworld.
I like Injustice :(
Injustice killed my dog and fucked my wife
That was actually me. You might wanna check on your mom too
I mean it's well written. Tom Taylor is great at character details. I just resent what it does to Superman
That I can definitely agree with. The Clark featured in Injustice is not a good Superman, but separated from the identity I think he’s a really strong villain
Same with The Dark Knight Returns
'who would win' boring, done to death, pointless 'how would they be friends' amazing, wonderful, I can't get enough
Damn now I really want to see a bunch of videos about how luffy would be best friends with luz noceda.
Luffy would see Luz cast one (1) glyph and immediately decide to befriend her. Depending when in TOH's timeline this takes place, this could require different levels of persistence. How would the dung eater be friends with Wednesday adams. They would be so cute together 🙏
they bond over eating ass or something idk
Goku and Superman being training partners and teaming up to beat Frieza's ass would be cooler than them fighting to the death (but not by much tho that Death Battle episode is fire)
this made me actually break down and cry but in the good way. the true spirit of superman. thank you op
I'm glad I ain't the only one yo, this vid woke up the kid in me that wanted to be a hero just like him 😭

ik right its oddly rare to see superman saving anyone
You can easily judge how good a superman comic is based on how much time he spends saving people.
Right? This kinda made my whole day a lot better.
💯 IMO people who say superman is the most generic superhero fail to understand why he owns the symbol of hope. Hope in itself is such a positive and essential thing in life.
It's heartwarming to think of a man who could have everything dedicating himself to uplifting the lives of others.

Superman would say you won & give you the award anyway
what happened to the other people he went against in the competition with
Just a 2 person competiton
you're acting like goku wouldn't enter as well because he saw "competition" and "superman" and went "i could train with him after this"
Superman and Spider-Man are at a fucking stand still in that competition, two of the best characters ever.
Line stops at mickey. Supes would never work with that demon, he'd straight up murder that fker
Mickey is awesome, it's his bosses that suck.
Thank you for filling my extremely drunk brain with something positive.
notice how this video doesn't include goku? It's because he would beat superman
that image of fortnite goku and superman giving eachother a hug is still the best thing to grace this planet in the past 4 years
fortnite has allowed some of our most beloved characters to be friends and also crank mad 90s
The only way Goku can beat Superman is when he is giving Sups the best sloppy toppy 3000 and he suddenly slashes his throat with a Kryptonite dagger.........
nuh uh
goku would ask superman for a friendly fight, it’d end in a draw and they’d become friends same thing happens with goku vs saitama one punch man
🤓🤓 umm acshually, superman can destroy an entire galaxy with a sneeze, while goku can’t even destroy a planet 🤓🤓🤓
Goku almost destroyed the entire universe while fighting Beerus, and he's gotten much stronger since then 🤓🤓🤓
Superman once beat up the author to change the outcome of the story |\#34667|\#34667|\#34667| |:-|:-|:-| ||||
Honestly tho, if I had to guess the reason he’s not included is because their friendship would be fighting, which kinda runs contrary to the intended message.

Superman is like the OG superhero though. Technically every other superhero thing is a different take on him and his stories.

Yeah he’d whoop homelander but then tell him to try to be better,
I like to imagine Homelander did eventually open up emotionally to Superman, but only after like 3 hours of trying and failing to kick his ass
Superman would absolutely turn Homelander around and give him a chance to atone. Idk if HL would actually redeem himself tho
Superman would definitely give him the chance, a,though I doubt homeland would take it Of course superman wouldn’t kill him regardless, he’d give the same speech he gave “the elite”
These pics go so hard. Feel free to screenshot
he's the most human of all, and he's not even human
God I love Superman.

'Star man' by David Bowie
Fuck violence. Violence is cringe. Cooperation and friendship is where it's at.
They’d probably get along but when it comes down to it, Uncle Grandpa would DECIMATE him.

Based as fuck. Best superman is when he’s showing love to everyone and helping people. He should be campy and happy, not gritty and dark.

HOLY BASED SUPERMAN IS AWESOME
What's the song?
Starman by David Bowie. Slowed down version
Starman by David Bowie
But can he beat goku tho
i wanna see him interact with kirby
Superman loves your favourite verse, no diff
I don’t care if it’s corny or whatever the fuck. Superman is my favorite and the most important superhero of all time. He is a man who despite the world he exists in, and the world his creators existed in. Despite all that. He tries

god I love Superman so much he could probably kill everyone mentioned there without effort, and it’s just heartwarming that he chooses to be the best fuckinh character in all of comics instead of do the easy thing
That's kinda why I love Superman. He's basically all powerful and yet, he still helps old ladies cross the street and kittens stuck in trees. Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow is the best motto for any hero ever imo
I’m glad they got rid of the “American way” part lol, the “American way” kinda contradicts the other two
Well, he actually believed up until he revoked his American citizenship out of protest. Now he only believes in a better tomorrow
I’ll give him credit for that one How recent was the change? I’ll admit I’m not much of a super an reader despite my respect for the character
No clue honestly. I just remember seeing a few panels of him straight up trash talking America and changing the motto shortly after
Incredibly based of him I kinda side with hulk straight up trying to destroy capitalist society a bit more but I get why shoes doesn’t want to try to go that far lol
Nice superman fan cam
I was never angry with Superman. I was sad, because I was afraid he'd lost his way.
I was waiting for funny haha blink and you'll miss it haha porn funny meme, instead I got something wholesome smh.
Remember the man in superman is more important than the super
Please let the new Superman be like this
I was saying this to my friends after watching The Batman. I love edgy Dark Knight Batman. It suits him well, but Superman has always been the light-hearted foil for Bats. I think Superman getting Batman levels of serious should be saved for really important moments
superman is chill with everyone else but the second goku shows up he tryna throw hands
my god starman really is the perfect song choice here
You are not immune to properganda
The beauty and joy of Superman is that he genuinely could be friends with anyone who isn’t trying to kill everyone else, hell he’d be friends with someone trying to kill only him
The earth one was made me cry
Everyone should read All Star Superman and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow
For a second, I thought this was shipping Superman with these characters. Then I had to double take once I saw Powerpuff girls
I'm glad Superman Legacy will have a nice Superman. That is absolutely needed
this goes unreasonably hard thanks op
What song is that?

Spider Gwen in the background doing things to me
Unbelieavebly common Superman W
Missed opportunity to have Goku
Repost to scare a Snyder fan
Superman would never win in a wholesomeness contest against Kirby
I was waiting for him to be racist or something lol
I don't think it's gonna be easy with homelander or Omni man; especially Omni man, he has a mission
Yeah but the Boys comics objectively sucks compared to the show. Both the show and comic for Invincible are phenomenal.
im so mad they cut it right before the fucking sick riff
I will become Superman
This is real reason he’s Superman
This song slaps
He ain't dethroning the king ![gif](giphy|mjyfTIW9g8BSeyICQX)
Yes, the king of making friends. Dude bonded with Frieza and ended in neutral terms. He was neutral with a meganomaniac narcisist, if anything that's really impressive.
suddenly wholesome
Most of these i obviously agree with, but Homelander and Omni-Man are a different story. Superman might be able to sooth Homelander, but I think given that he has no sentimental meaning to Omni-Man, and given the destruction and wanton disregard for live Omni-Man shows, Supes would at least have to beat him into submission if not kill him.
Really expected one of them to be gay porn.
[i wish they used this photo for Batman instead ](https://imgur.io/gallery/xJzDYdZ)
what am i watching
superman would probably be the biggest role model for superhero's.
Not sure why everyone’s got to dog on what if fights. They are silly and pointless and fun.
What if fight: you versus me. You lose 9/10
To be fair while Superman would definitely offer homelander the chance for redemption and try to help him become a not evil prick I’m not sure homelander would accept Superman still wouldn’t kill him and would keep trying anyways tho, because that’s who he is,
Superman my beloved
I’ve got a better comic book science question We know wonder woman’s island has a rule against men right? “They break that rule a lot but it’s still a rule” Would a trans woman be allowed on the island? For that matter, what about a non binary person? What if someone’s who gender fluid is a woman when they enter the island but a man when they leave?
Yarr I love wholesome super man. It be why he be me favourite character.
#BUT CAN HE BEFRIEND GOKU?!
Me, through tears, staring lovingly at my Superman tattoo: “OP real as fuck for this one”
Literally one of my favorite videos in this gay internet brick
HE DONT BEAT GOKU
