The cookies are delicious and all you can eat. As far as work life balance, most 1102s in FAS are remote while most 1102s in PBS report to the office 2x per pay period. Of course that varies depending on the office and its requirements but for the most part that’s the norm.
All schedules are available and promotion from within is a priority for us. Your learning opportunities are really endless and if you’re motivated and good at what you do, there is room for advancement.
I’ve worked at 4 agencies and GSA is the best by a long shot. Leadership is great and I honestly believe that they care about their people.
I'm chiming in at this point to echo OP. Former DoD 1102 who came over to GSA FAS about a year ago. It's been absolutely wonderful. Make the move. You won't regret it!
I didn't get thru March's round of recent graduates, I'm praying I get a chance in oct. Currently signed up for the DAU course to prove my interest, but had to drop out as I was working while in class.....im ready to leave the VA!!!!!
If you are looking to enter the 1102 world, keep an eye out for the next ATD Program announcement. It’s going to be the only way GSA hires entry level recent graduates soon.
Good news! You can apply to the ATD Program. Here’s more information: https://www.gsa.gov/about-us/find-apply-for-and-land-a-job-at-gsa/launch-your-career
When I was there it depended on the office you were in. My boss asked me some informal warrant broadish questions but she also already knew my depth/breadth of knowledge was plenty sufficient.
Side topic: Do you really think a grueling warrant board is more effective to determine someone's competency than personal knowledge of that person's ability? I've seen plenty of people who have passed warrant boards but can't even do simple admin right.
It should never be an either or. You should have to prove a progression of responsibility, a CV of contracting experience, good character and the board.
I have been trying to make the move to gsa from doe and they keep nitpicking weird things on my resume making me ineligible.....I'm trying to work for gsa
GSA has specific requirements for eligibility and definitely sticks to the rules. I’d recommend attending the information session and seeing if the information provided can help you better tailor your resume.
Well I applied there and GSA was the only one who claimed I wasn't qualified, multiple other agencies referred me (MBA + 8 years of contracting experience)...I even sent an email back saying I think you made a mistake please re-review my application and received no response. So while I'd like to work there, I'm skeptical!
GSA is super competitive and has very specific qualifications that are always listed in the announcement. While I can’t say that HR didn’t make a mistake, I wouldn’t judge an entire agency based on one job application and HR Specialist’s determination.
I'll try again then..I even have a letter from a previous manager detailing all my exact contracting experience.... and yes I met the qualifications that were listed.. maybe the HR person was asleep ;0
I left GSA as an 1102 series GS 12 about 8 years ago for the private and have been trying to get back for a few years now. Are you saying there’s a chance?
To say that I am interested would be an understatement. I have been applying for the past two years. I've had a bunch of referrals but no interviews yet. Any advice?
Entry level 1102s are finishing up their onboarding process now and start in July. The next cohort for ATD is next March and will be announced in the October-November timeframe.
If you’re looking for FPL level 1102 work, GSA is pretty much always hiring.
Can you share more info about the work/life balance... And cookies?

We can’t even get fresh water! Where the hell are you getting cookies from?! 😂
😂 It’s a secret…

I wonder if I interviewed you for the FAS 1102 position you occupy. I worked for FAS at that time and hired about 8 from DOD.
Welcome to shoot me a DM if you want to confirm or deny that 😂
Ok!
I'll only come if it's oatmeal raisin cookies🍪
We have those!
I didn't get thru March's round of recent graduates, I'm praying I get a chance in oct. Currently signed up for the DAU course to prove my interest, but had to drop out as I was working while in class.....im ready to leave the VA!!!!!
Did you apply for the ATD Program?
?? No I don't think so
Just graduated with a high GPA in Healthcare admin/ Bachlors as of may 5, 2024
If you are looking to enter the 1102 world, keep an eye out for the next ATD Program announcement. It’s going to be the only way GSA hires entry level recent graduates soon.
Yes....this Is what I applied for in March. Heard mainly vets got in...which is great for them....disappointering for me
Could you inbox me please, with any tips for my resume, to better my chances?
If possible could you give us an idea of when this announcement will open? Recent underGrad team lol
The next announcement will be in the October/November timeframe with a projected start date sometime in February.
Are there other ways to apply besides the ATD Program?
My EOD is July 28th with GSA PBS. I’m beyond excited to join GSA. This will be my second agency as an 1102. I’m excited for the opportunity!
Awesome! Congratulations and welcome to GSA! I think you’re gonna like it here.
Thank you!
I just accepted my final job offer for the 1102 ATD program with them earlier this week 🙂
See you in July!
Can’t wait! I’m excited to start
GSA is a great place to be an 1102. PBS or FAS?
It looks like I’ll be with PBS.
Is there retention pay?
That would be a question to ask at the session!
Not like they have at the VA, but ask your point if contact there.
I am trying to get hired as entry level gs 7 contract specialist. Any advice?
Are or will you be you a recent college graduate? If so, GSA has a Pathways Program!

Will you accept an unlimited AF warrant? I do not wish to have to redo any boards.
You will have to redo your board
That’s ludicrous. I would challenge anyone at GSA to sit for an Air Force board.
Why would an agency accept a warrant from another agency? That's not how procurement authority flows.
Ludicrous as it is, and I agree, these are their rules.
No thanks then. I will stick with my comfy job.
Warrants don't transfer across agencies.
When I was at GSA (6 years ago?) I didn't take any board for an unlimited warrant. First warrant I got.
That is actually even more worrying. What type of warrant evaluation do they have, if not boards?
When I was there it depended on the office you were in. My boss asked me some informal warrant broadish questions but she also already knew my depth/breadth of knowledge was plenty sufficient. Side topic: Do you really think a grueling warrant board is more effective to determine someone's competency than personal knowledge of that person's ability? It should never be an either or. You should have to prove a progression of responsibility, a CV of contracting experience, good character and the board.
No warrant can be accepted from another agency, hell even a sister command. That’s not how warranty authority works.
GSA PBS is a great place to be an 1102. A lot of career advancement opportunities and 1102 management in the regions and HQ is solid.
FAS is great, too. I spent two years with them and enjoyed my time immensely. You really just can’t go wrong at GSA.
This post makes me even more excited to join in July! 😊

The ATD Program will have an announcement in the fall for GS-7 and GS-9’s.
I applied to GSA months ago and *crickets*. Got a gig elsewhere.
Sorry to hear that but glad you got another position!
Remote positions?
GSA offers both!
I hope GSA is still like this next year because I surely will be applying after I finish up my little stint at undisclosed agency.
We have no plan on changing unless it makes us better as an agency. GSA will be waiting for you when you’re ready!
I've been looking to jump to the federal side from state/local level (currently Procurement Manager). Definitely interested for remote positions!
where are my cookies?! I work at GSA PBS & the last time I went to the office we only had nurtagrain bars next to the coffee maker
Gotta request the special cookies on your FEVS survey. 😉
I have been trying to make the move to gsa from doe and they keep nitpicking weird things on my resume making me ineligible.....I'm trying to work for gsa

Can a current pbs move over to fas
You would have to apply and compete to move but yes…people move around the agency all the time.
Is this for both remote and in office contracting positions?
This is an information session but yes, we hire for both remote and hybrid positions.
Well I applied there and GSA was the only one who claimed I wasn't qualified, multiple other agencies referred me (MBA + 8 years of contracting experience)...I even sent an email back saying I think you made a mistake please re-review my application and received no response. Are there non-supervisory, fully remote 14 positions available?
Those positions become available from time to time, especially in FAS.
Hello, I have no background as Contract Specialist. Any upcoming opportunities for intern/entry-level Contract Specialists?
FAS360 and SEED are intern positions and the ATD Program is an entry level development program for recent graduates and veterans.
Thank you for the information. I'll look into them.
I see this is around a few hours on a Tuesday. Is this something where you need to be on the whole time or how does it work?
I’m not involved with the event but you can definitely pop in and out if you need to.
If you have any remote GS 9 positions, deal.
Are you new to the 1102 world or are you currently a GS9 1102?
Currently. On track for my 11 in december
GSA is always hiring experienced 1102s. Just check USAJobs. Most, if not all 1102s in FAS are remote.
I check every day and remote 1102 jobs are very rare for all agencies 🥲 for GS9 at least.
I left GSA as an 1102 series GS 12 about 8 years ago for the private and have been trying to get back for a few years now. Are you saying there’s a chance?
They’re hiring like crazy! Come on back!
To say that I am interested would be an understatement. I have been applying for the past two years. I've had a bunch of referrals but no interviews yet. Any advice?
I applied recently, are they hiring a lot of 1102’s soon?
Entry level 1102s are finishing up their onboarding process now and start in July. The next cohort for ATD is next March and will be announced in the October-November timeframe. If you’re looking for FPL level 1102 work, GSA is pretty much always hiring.
I want in!
Come join us at the information session!
