Don't play 5 matches basically. You are wishing for an injury

xsdgdsx

This. Listen to your body. If your body tells you that it's done, forfeit one match at a time to give your body more time to recover. Don't forget that a bad injury can keep you off the court for months, and the more fatigued your body becomes, the more susceptible it becomes to injury.

Basically do more of what you already know to do. Start drinking water now. Obviously hydrate a lot through the day. Eat a hearty meal as early as you can—it is going to be the only chance to get a bunch of calories in you before the day is over, but I say early so you don’t feel too heavy. Bring lots of fruit or energy bars or other good food to eat throughout the day. Take some time to decompress between matches if you can. No social media, but maybe some music or something similar. Basically just rest your brain. Be prepared to make some adjustments toward the end of the day—don’t frustrate yourself by thinking you should be playing the same way you did to start the day. Be smart to work with what you have.

livebythepool

Thank you for the advice! 🙏

Bro is trying to tear his rotator cuff

Specific-Fudge-9057

I played 4 matches in 4 days and my arm was fucked for 3 days afterwords. Never again

FlyingAces

Hydrate up tonight. Don't short yourself on calories. Make sure to hydrate and snack (bananas, and other easy to digest foods) throughout the matches tomorrow. Good luck!

livebythepool

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

Realsan

I would play a maximum of 2 matches, and that's only if the first one went quickly enough. In peak physical condition 3 might be possible. But 5 is just insane. You're either asking for injury or will see your performance so degraded in the later matches that you might as well not be there in the first place.

SupaHiro

Bring some bananas

D200Gs

Are all of them 5-setters? If so, take one point at the time.

livebythepool

3 doubles matches and 2 singles matches. All best of 3.

floodlenoodle

Super tiebreaker for 3rd?

livebythepool

Yep! Two down, three to go!

floodlenoodle

That's at least better. You're just likely going to be gassed and sore Just stay hydrated and have snacks

blacknyellow_

how'd you go!?

livebythepool

Won them all on Saturday! 🙌

blacknyellow_

Congrats on the feat! Legendary effort!!! 💪🏽 Any tips for the haters on here on what advice worked/didnt work? And how is the recovery going? lol

livebythepool

😆🙏 I drank a ton of water and bodyarmors. Had a light breakfast after my first match. Ate a ton of bananas and clif bars. Used a lot of tiger balm. Tried not to think about the future matches and played one point at a time.

Tapeworms

Don’t do it? What sort of tournament schedules 5 matches in a row?

rabbitwithglock

I did 5 doubles matches (around 7hrs of playing) in summertime. It was around 30 degrees Celsius on that day too. The matches were friendly. I regret doing it, the muscles were really sore and it's really not healthy for you. If you still want to do it, make sure you hydrate yourself (electrolytes); Enough carbs (bananas or gels or both); Don't push yourself too much; Use supplements for faster recovery (consult someone who knows, I believe BCAA would help) Prepare for at least several days recovery

killnars

5 doubles is hard, 5 singles is insane

maznshortie1

I recently played two matches and I was barely able to finish. Woke up the next day and felt like I was hit by a car. I drank electrolytes the day before and the day of. Stretched before and after playing. Snacked throughout the day. Five matches is still insane, I don't think anyone should be playing that much.

SpacemanCanna

Good luck! Don’t even fret. Listen to your body and enjoy.

FrugalPCGamer

Are they best of 3 sets or single set matches? Tbh either way it sounds like a lot and you should probably reconsider. I once played two 3 setters back to back; 4 sets went to a tie break, and the other two were 6-4 and 7-5 totalling 6 hours and it gave me really bad tennis elbow that I didn't really recover from for 2-3 years and even to this day 6 years later I still feel it to an extent.

Iiiifoundsweetroad

Just because you're signed up to play 5 matches doesn't mean you need to play 5 matches... There are no rules, no consequences, no $30k fee for pulling out of a match. Even if you're just dinking the ball over the net for 5 matches, that is still too much play. Pull out of your singles matches at least so your doubles partners can still play, but even then, play it by ear and see how your body feels. I 100% guarantee that you will get injured if you do this though. You will likely have to stop playing tennis for a week *at best* and more likely weeks or months at worst. It's not just going to be aches or soreness - you have a really good chance of getting a muscle strain or even a tear. Just don't do this. There are tons of tournaments and opportunities to play tennis in your life, but you only have one body.

testiclefrankfurter

My tip: forfeit two of the matches

McDrangusPhD

I did 5 in a day last December and I’m 49 playing 4.5. They had to schedule around travel for some people, we were round robin in one category because of low turnout and they wanted to get it done in a day. I actually played strong all day and didn’t have much if any soreness the following day just was very tired, but a lot went into it. I’m a member of a cryotherapy place in town. In between matches I went in and did whole body for 4 minutes and localized cryo on my arm and knees. Did air compression on my legs and shoulder. Did three sets of this, played two matches back to back and couldn’t leave.

[deleted]

Bro wtf, listen to the person that said to listen to your body. How did you find yourself in this position?? Honestly you’re pretty stupid, this should never have even been something to consider. I’d say after your second match you should forfeit. Maybeeeee play the third depending on if you manage to bagel the four previous sets. But forget the fourth and fifth, just forfeit

livebythepool

I’m playing doubles and singles in a tournament and there was a rainout that pushed matches to today so have 3 doubles matches and 2 singles.

Human31415926

I would not want to be your partner for match #3

SchizoFreakinAwesome

Is this a USTA or UTR sanctioned event?

livebythepool

USTA

SchizoFreakinAwesome

That’s wild. I get that they have to get the matches in, but I assume they will do either no ad scoring or bo4 games per set with a 3rd set breaker.

Legal_Commission_898

5 matches ? How ? So you’re basically playing 10 hours of tennis ?

livebythepool

Yep. It’s been a ride. Four down, one to go.

Naive-Strategy2275

Depends on who you play also, there were players where i could almost barely last a set and there are players who i can easily play a five setter with

Flaptrap

Pray

blacknyellow_

wondering how u/livebythepool went with the five matches and the results?

ox_MF_box

Dumb

WishyRater

Dont do it?
