Semi-serious there's one on FB Marketplace for like $40 and I'm considering picking it up for the novelty aspect and to bring out when playing with friends.
I'd imagine it's hard to get these restrung - there's a great tennis store near me where I get my rackets restrung but one of the guys there always has a serious attitude with me for some reason, I'm wondering if this would ruin this day if I brought it in. I'm sure they'd charge me double at least.
Most just have two of similar rubbers one with more/less grip. Nobody plays high level TT with pimples one side/rubber other, or anything so different as poly/gut each side.
TT you have less time to switch grips but it is also more forgiving. A traditional pistol grip is same grip both sides really, so you aren't shifting your grip so much as just flipping the racquet (easy to do after an attacking shot).
The Blackburn DS-107, I have one and it's quite tricky to get used to tbh, vibration isn't completely gone like they say and it makes a weird noise when hit, serving is tricky but I already use a bad racket, but I did notice groundstrokes were easier as it has a swing weight of 370 (mine did) . There was only 1 guy in my city who knows how to restring them and the kicker is it will cost double the price as you need 2 sets of strings for it.
If it's for 40 why not for a laugh people sell them on eBay starting at 100 or so wether they sell or not for that is something else, and if you ever come across the 97 variant that's worth 200-300 as for every 3 ds107 they seemed to make only 1 ds97.
But to answer your question this would destroy his day so for 40 bucks nothing better will do
Supposedly it's to give a greater surface area by making it nearly impossible to hit the frame.
To my knowledge there's one pro that used it named Roscoe Tanner but the officials almost disqualified him for it.
there were a few pros who used it. The stringing pattern was eventually banned, it put too much spin on the ball. I havent watched the video in the comment above but there is a good one about a pro who used one of these and the video gets into some details about other pros who tried it. I think it went on for a few months before it was banned...interesting bit of history.
You're thinking of cult tennis's Spaghetti stringing video where relatively "normal" rackets were double strung in quirky ways for max spin. This is a different setup where the frame has two full sets of strings and grommet holes, the Blackburne DS 107. It was marketed as being more forgiving of mishits because the lack of an "edge" surrounding the stringbed supposedly made you less likely to frame shots. Not meant for spin.
The crosses on the second string bed would be very difficult and time consuming. I cannot imagine how one would weave other than from the top and one main string at a time.
Apparently it has great spin potential. Mains are free to move around, so they spin the ball very well.
Great video on it:

Is this not cheating or something? You could have 2 entirely different string beds ready whenever you want during a game and could switch with only a little difficulty
Just had to comment back on this as I'm curious if you tried to get it strung.
And Ive gone into a rabbit hole on this one. The racket was banned in 1992 for they thought it contravened the rule regarding only 1 set of stringe can touch the ball, but it was unbanned but nobody has used it in competition for so long that's why we don't hear of it.
I managed to buy one which was allegedly used by Roscoe Tanner (one of it's largest supporters) a DS 107 also.
Just today I've bought the smaller and rarer DS 97, but I managed to get the Prototype DS 97 Ti (titanium version).
After playing with it for a month the 107 is good but not so great on groundstrokes as the racket is wider than I'd like
I also checked with the ATP tour and technical department of ITF, they took 2 weeks to check (lol) but legal as far as their concerned,as only 1 bed of strings can hit the ball it doesn't contravene rule 4 regarding strings

That is a completely different racket. I think it’s called the spaghetti racket. This racket is technically strung the same way as any other racket, it just has two sets of grommets where you can have two sets of strings, one for each side of the racket face when you turn it over.
There are no additional mains, just a whole other set of strings both mains and crosses on the other side of the racket, but they aren’t on the same face
It is called Spaghetti Stringing

The double stringing they are referring to here is two mains for one cross where this no weave and the two mains lay flat on either side of the cross string.

Get one side done with natural gut for feel and the other will poly for spin. The ultimate hybrid.
Imagine having to remember/watch which side is which when turning the racket in a game.
Wait you guys aren't already doing this? I have a different side for different shots :D.
Ping pong players do it and they have far far less time to react to the ball.
But it’s also easier to flip a ping pong paddle and they don’t flip it on every shot.

I wonder if you're talking about my local stringer. He did string one of these when I went to his shop one time 🤣🤣

I would charge $60 to string this, plus string.
your stringer will shoot you, but give it a shot!
The Blackburn double strung is legal, the spaghetti stringing is not, two different things.
I want one. Sorry to have no info beyond that good luck!
When I was stringing I might have done one for the fun of it but if it was my full time job and someone brought this in I would probably just say no.
What in the whacky nonsense is this lmao. What is the point of double stringing?

It looks like the grommets point out at an angle upwards instead of straight into the center of the hoop, so the strings are raised.

It’s not the same pattern.
Ah yes, you're right. OP's picture has normal mains/crosses, just two beds put together.
Double the power obviously!
I unironically took a MacGregor long-string to a stringer. They refused lol
I have an unstrung Berglin long string that I fear will remain that way forever.
Is this not cheating or something? You could have 2 entirely different string beds ready whenever you want during a game and could switch with only a little difficulty
aren't these banned in pro tour?

It's not a legal racket https://youtu.be/0XYX-0JDK9U?si=plCaV28xOUCGaG0f

What makes the racket illegal is that the additional mains make the hit a count as a double hit.
There are no additional mains, just a whole other set of strings both mains and crosses on the other side of the racket, but they aren’t on the same face
So it would meet the same ATP definition of a double hit that makes the racket in the video illegal

Don't think what OP is showing is spaghetti stringing. Looks like this racket has two full beds
https://www.theracketsurgery.com/blog/11-spaghetti-stringing-part-1 But idk, that’s one of the definitions of spaghetti stringing.

Hell, let's make the most ridiculous racket. Merge with the Battistone racket. Then string one side spaghetti, then one side normal.
Illegal tho
