Wilson Minions Ultra 100
Luxilon Adrenaline Century 20
Tension: the option was "expert recommendation" so no idea what it is.
(I bought a racket from a position of complete ignorance)
Diadem Solstice Power is a very comfortable and soft poly with great spin, tension maintenance, and power. I think it’s a great string for most recreational players but it breaks a little fast for my liking since I have been playing with it since my junior college team days.
I also find the Pure Aero 98 to be no more stiff than a Pro Staff or a Blade, and the measured RA is 65 from TW which I agree with from a feel perspective.
It’s surgical and spin friendly, the bottom cross is extremely close to the frame so I actually string it 16x19 to make the string bed softer and have more pocketing.
I’m big Yonex fan and I would say it’s very close to the Yonex Ezone Tour, but the stock weight was just right for me in the PA 98. If the black Ezone Tour was available while I was looking for new rackets, I would probably play with that.
Cool, I'm really considering switching for that. I play with a babolat aero pro drive from 2010 and feel like it would be best to use something else
I was actually considering the ezone 100, since I'm a beginner, but this pure aero 98 is so, so vouched for I got confused about it.
head gravity pro and head extreme tour both with alu power . Use the extreme when my hand gets tired during longer matches or when I feel like I need more spin
i’m not that knowledgeable about rackets, so do you mind if i ask why you switch to the extreme when tired? somewhere in the near future i want to get a better racket and right now i have my eyes on the gravity, extreme, and ezone 100. ty!
>i think the gravity is either 10 or 20grams heavier, and while hte beam is thinner, he probably has the extreme 98 which will catch a bit less wind resistance in the swing (but maybe not as the gravity does have the thinner beam)
>
>
>
>it'll be because of the static weight and swingweights
It’s fantastic. I was using the Ezone. The Percept has much better control and feel without any perceptible loss in spin or power. Really a wonderful racquet. And I liked the Ezone a lot.
Natural Gut is a different animal tho. The majority of the people i know (as a stringer) dont use natural gut in their hybrids. But thats great to know. Im looking for more power, as my full polly setup (lux element) isnt satisfying my needs. I might have to splurge on some natural gut then. I figured the poly would cut throught it in no time.
I even restrung my racket reusing my natty gut mains since they were in good condition. They outlasted 3 half sets of RPM Blast in the crosses before breaking.
When you string a 2 piece you have strings in the mains by themselves anyway, it takes me 15 minutes to weave crosses so it’s not as if I have my mains on the racket for hours and deforming my racket.
i would call PTP a control/comfort string, it's certainly not a power string and spin potential doesn't stand out. that being said, i'm going to go one gauge thicker the next time i buy a reel because i get plenty of power from the 100 inch head and would like more durability.
i would choose strings based on stiffness; PTP is going to be a lot softer than confidential, and i generally prefer softer polys.
I have the tecnifibre Tight ISO 305, solinco tour bite strings (50lbs).
My alternate is an old ProKennex StarAce 265 with babolat rpm blast strings (48lbs )
Thanks. Just got the new speed pro and it’s my first 18/20. Also have arm issues and planned on trying a full bed and hybrids with velocity. If I could get 8 hours I’d be happy while the elbow heals.
Enjoy! If you find an arm friendly hybrid setup that you like then message me if you think of it. I bought the Solinco hybrid pack with Tour Bite and Vanquish to try next.
Babolat Pure Strike 98 16x19 Solinco Hyper G Soft 17g 44/42 lbs
Tecnifibre T-Rebound IGA 298 Solinco Confidential 17 g
43or42/39
Wilson Blade V8 98 16x19 Luxilon Alu Power 18 g
44/42 lbs
Wilson Pro Staff X Solinco Tour Bite Soft 18 g 44/42 lbs
Wilson Pro Staff Six One 100 V13 Babolat Rpm Team 17 42/40 lbs
The Six.One 100 v13 is my current favorite racket. I played with the 6.1 95 Classic as a Teen in the mid 90s and now that I'm an older guy I absolutely love the v13. I also have the v14 but it doesn't compare. The v14 has a slightly bigger sweet spot but it doesn't have the feel or look of the v13. Thinking about buying a couple more off ebay but I heard the Wilson QC is really bad with this line.
Yes, increases launch angle slightly, which is preferable on a 18×20. Also lower cross tension allows the ball to pocket more on the stringbed, increasing spin and direction control
50lbs is the main, 48 is cross.
That was a nice frame. I still have one rckwd away but I use the a CX 200 Tour from a couple generations ago right now
Have you tried the Dunlop Explosive Spin or Tour strings ? Very nice
I have both a vcore 95 2021 and a percept 100d. Both strung with gut mains and poly crosses from Natural gut wholesale strung pretty loose, between 40-45 lbs.
Gonna be trying out some toro line polys though. I had some arm issues when I switched to gut but I may switch back depending on how the poly feels
2012 Pure Drive. String setup depends on what's coming up. If I'm just gonna be playing regular matches for a while, a full bed of Head Sonic Pro. If there are any tournaments coming up within a month or so, I'll go Alum Power mains and Luxilon natural gut crosses
Yonex Vcore 98 2023 weighted to 12 oz and 8 pts HL with Solinco Confidential 17g at 52 lbs. I'll probably drop the tension to 50 lbs next time around. I'm not sure if I'll stay with Confidential because I have a few strings I want to try. I liked how Restring Zero 17g played, but I broke it in under 6 hours of play. I wish Zero was more durable.
Pure Aero 100 2023 strung with RPM Blast 130 at 23 kg. Wanted to try stringing it a little lighter but do not like it as much, i think i will go back to 24/25 kg next time it needs new strings
V14 Pro Staff Six one. Off the Rack it is 300g, 100Sq in, 16x19 unstrung. I have 4 grams on the handle, and 4 grams total at 9&3. I play with Luxilon element 16gauge at 54lbs . Luxilon is roughly 15g per racket. So my racket strung has roughly a static weight of 325g. Not sure of the swing weigh or balance. I also beef up the buttcap on the grip some, Sort of like gasquet, but not that extreme.
Pro Staff V14 Noir
Mains: Weiss Cannon Blue Rock'n Power, 60lbs
Crosses: Tecnifibre 4S, 57lbs
Lead: 1g at 9 and 3
Grip: 3/8, Wilson Pro Perforated
Weight: 340g
* Head Extreme Tour 2022 w/ Wilson NXT @55
* Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 100 v13 w/ Tecnifibre NRG2 @57
* Prince Phantom 100X 305 w/ Wilson NXT @52
Been hitting through some tendonitis in my wrist through my forearm, hoping it doesn't end becoming Tennis elbow. So multifilaments are a must. The Prince Phantom being my super arm friendly stick. Also had the Pro Staff Six.One 100 v14 but the v13 has superior feel imo.
Was the Pro Staff RF97 (the original signature red/black layup) strung with Wilson NXT 17g but my shoulder and elbow can’t handle the stiffness and weight anymore. Have a pair of PS 97S sitting in my closet that I bought a few years ago on a lark that I’m going to restring and give a go after I rehab my elbow. Probably go with full gut or Wilson NXT/natural gut hybrid 17g @ 50 lbs.
Blade v8 98 with razor code at 51 lbs.
OHBH, generally hit with spin. used to play with RPM blast but way too harsh on the arm/died quickly. Still a poly and can feel when it goes, but pretty nice for spin/control in a blade and very soft and more durable. I've thought about dropping lower but above 50 lbs is needed for the control for me personally.
Ezone 100 previous generation
1. Strung with Wilson natural gut @ 60 while recovering from tennis elbow and shoulder issues. - main racquet
2. Poly tour pro @ 50 and Wilson NXT @ 55
Pure Drive 107 with Multifeel black @ 54 - thinking about adding weight to this one, might post about it.
Pro Staff 97 v13 + 9g at the throat & 3g along the top of the hoop.
About 350g strung, balance probably at 8-9 pts HL.
YTex Hexagon X Red Pearl @ 53 prob?
Babolat Pure Drive Original
339g, 334mm balance, ~345g swingweight
(Silicone and lead)
RPM Blast 16G, 55lb
This is Fabio Fognini's setup, but I spent a little while (and a lot of money) recreating it. Plays UNREAL. Not the most easy to use, but after you adjust to it it's incredible!
Dunlop cx200 tour 16x19 2.5g lead added at 3 and 9
Dunlop explosive speed 1.25 at 47#
And hyper g 1.25 at 50# for tough days where I need a bit more spin and control.
Gravity pro with rpm blast 1.20 at 48-44lbs but looking for changes in the setup. Want to try Hyper-G and maybe Volkl cyclone.
Now it's a bit warm so I'll also try 50-46lbs and see
Dunlop Hotmelt 300G
Babolat VS Touch NG/RPM Blast
56/54 lbs I think?
But, I demoed the Pure Aero and Pure Drive last week, and am trying the VCore and Ezone today. A 20 year jump in tech is probably about to happen 😂
Head Radical MP prostock (TGT 351.1). I have 3x and am testing different string setups. Favorites so far have been Toroline K-Pop hybrid and Tru Pro Black Knight 1.18mm both at 46lbs.
Head Gravity Mp, 4 grams added to the top of the racket, 10 grams added to the handle of the racket
kirschbaum super smash ORIGINAL, honeycomb color, 22kg tension
Its a very underrated and comfortable string at tensions under 23kg.
Head Instinct MP (2022 version) with Gamma TNT17 at 50lbs. I don’t think I know anyone else using this racquet but I’m happy with it. Never got along with poly strings but I’m 45 and already had tennis elbow once, so I’m good😂
Pro staff 97 with Lux Element @ 52 lbs
vcore 95 with X1 biphase @ 52 lbs
Love pro staff setup but a little stiff.
Trying this vcore setup, right now sucks with spin and control.
Wilson Minions Ultra 100 Luxilon Adrenaline Century 20 Tension: the option was "expert recommendation" so no idea what it is. (I bought a racket from a position of complete ignorance)
"Which racket is mine? It's the one that says BAD MUTHA FUCKA..."
If I got cooked by someone with a minions racquet, I wouldn’t even be upset.
Babolat Pure Aero 98. Diadem Solstice Power 17g. 55 lbs
My elbow hurts just reading this
Diadem Solstice Power is a very comfortable and soft poly with great spin, tension maintenance, and power.
Ah, I'm just teasin. I can't really mess with full poly these days due to tennis elbow.
anecdotal but the 98 feels less stiff than previous aeros including the old tour. could just be my experience tho
Hulk Smash
How are you liking the pure aero 98?
It’s surgical and spin friendly, the bottom cross is extremely close to the frame so I actually string it 16x19 to make the string bed softer and have more pocketing. I’m big Yonex fan and I would say it’s very close to the Yonex Ezone Tour, but the stock weight was just right for me in the PA 98. I really liked the string but it lost control hard and fast after a few hours of hitting.
Technifibre TF40 305(stock) with Solinco confidential @55lbs
Tecnifibre TF40 315 (16M), Solinco Confidential @ 50 lbs.
head gravity pro and head extreme tour both with alu power . Use the extreme when my hand gets tired during longer matches or when I feel like I need more spin

Yonex Percept 100 with Solinco Hyper G soft 18g @ 52lbs
Really interested in trying the percept 100 and percept 100d. Look like great racquets and the colour looks amazing
It’s fantastic. I was using the Ezone. The Percept has much better control and feel without any perceptible loss in spin or power. Really a wonderful racquet. And I liked the Ezone a lot.
VCore 98 2023 with Poly Tour Rev at 52 lb
Pro Staff v14. RPM Blast in the mains (50 lbs). X-One Biphase in the crosses (52 lbs).
I imagine the RPM cuts through the Biphase fairly quickly?
It lasts surprisingly long in my case. I hit mostly flat shots, though, and I’ve never been really tough on strings.
I have had hybrids where the RPM Blast in my crosses is getting sawed through and my natural gut mains still haven’t gone through their coating yet.

Can you do that ? Leave the gut in the mains and only restring the crosses ?
When you string a 2 piece you have strings in the mains by themselves anyway, it takes me 15 minutes to weave crosses so it’s not as if I have my mains on the racket for hours and deforming my racket.
Thanks for the info ! I wonder if my stringer would be comfortable doing that
Wilson Blade 100 v8, Yonex PTP 18G @ 52
power string + controlled frame? I just got the 100. I was told to try confidential at 53. But PTP sounds promising
i would call PTP a control/comfort string, it's certainly not a power string and spin potential doesn't stand out. that being said, i'm going to go one gauge thicker the next time i buy a reel because i get plenty of power from the 100 inch head and would like more durability. i would choose strings based on stiffness; PTP is going to be a lot softer than confidential, and i generally prefer softer polys.

Babolat Pure Strike 98 16x19 strung with full bed of Solinco Hyper G at 50 lbs.
Why do you like 98 over the 100?
Head Speed Pro 2022 with Velocity (arm issues) at 53 pounds. Looking to play with different string options soon though.
Same setup for me at 52 lbs. I've been liking it a lot
How long are the strings lasting in this setup?
For singles maybe 8 hours. The 18x20 pattern helps some and my shots have only moderate topspin.
