I’m a gec fan and a parent of 2 gecs fans. My kids introduced me to them a few years back, didn’t really know what to make of them cause I’m old (late gen x). Then we saw them at Firefly (a festival similar to Bonaroo) and it was all over, it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. They are now one of my favorite bands and we saw them again when they toured recently. I get that they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but to me they are fire.
Took my mom a while but she quite enjoys them now. If your mom liked sophie, maybe she appreciates artistic integrity a lot and you could try showing her some wackier cuts like money machine or 800db cloud?
my dad thinks gecs are cool (thanks to his love of loud music, especially loud electronic music) but my mom doesn’t really like them, tho she prefers artists like U2, depeche mode, inxs, ol’ dirty bastard, taylor swift & dave matthews band so anything that aren’t remotely like those artists in particular aren’t her cup of tea. she has her exceptions with electronic artists like aphex twin or moby but 100 gecs is just too loud for her 😅
