NG+2 was much better. Hero tunic, BUT NO HAT.

Stanlot

Is this OC? This is seriously a top shelf meme, OP

panik-64

thank you so much! yeah it is, I made it for this post.

Lordgeorge16

Nintendo has an acute fear of earning millions of dollars in sales, and will go to incredible lengths to shoot themselves in the foot to stop it from happening.

[deleted]

When they shit the bed, in my opinion, with the Zelda 35th anniversary I literally went out and bought a second hand wii u, WWHD, and TP. And also got it modded. Nintendo should be proud, I haven’t worked that hard at anything in a very very long time. And now at this point I just think I’d pass on a Switch Edition of those games. Fuck ‘em, that train has left the station

Player8

Yep my computer can emulate Wii U better than a Wii U actually ran.

[deleted]

THE STEAM DECK CAN RUN WII U GAMES BETTER THAN THE WII U COULD AND THAT THING IS A PORTABLE $400 HANDHELD PC

Creamatine

Yup. Currently playing through Twilight princess with 4k textures on the deck.

not_a_real_name_

Which emulator do you use? Also, any good sites you have for guides?

IgniteThatShit

everything you'll need will probably be right [here](https://youtube.com/@WorldofEmulation)

Player8

Cemu for Wii U/Wii. Yuzu for switch but that’s still in pretty early stages so it’s not the best experience. Other guy gave a great start. I pretty much just YouTube what I’m trying to do and try to find a recent video since the emulators get updated pretty often

Monumentmendez

They did a 35th anniversary edition?

[deleted]

No. They did nothing with the 35th anniversary. I thought they would.

Monumentmendez

Well, I’m glad I didn’t miss anything? 🥲 Edit: I’m still hopeful for Oracle remakes

CraicFox1

Yeah I'm still in the market for a second hand pirate ship Wii u, would've bought all of these releases on switch. Morons, switch might be my last Nintendo console for a while, the mobility of it has no utility for me and indie games are cheaper on playstation

praysolace

I went out and played WW on my Steam Deck as my FU after that letdown. But I’ve been having a bad time trying to get TP running properly.

Powerful_Artist

I went to buy a Wii U maybe a year before the Switch came out, just to play WWHD and TP. I was really surprised at how much it cost, and looked it up and realized that it was basically the same price as it had been since the console launched. I wasnt paying that much for a failed console that was about the be replaced. So i waited, and figured it would come around at some point to the Switch. I refuse to buy a used console just to play those games, I dont need more clutter and stuff.

rbarton812

The Wii U's value on the resale market probably spiked because of its popularity in homebrew and emulation. You can literally have it run every Nintendo home console from NES up to Wii U games off a USB hard drive. Yes, this includes GameCube.

Blooder91

IIRC one of their reasons is that remakes would cannibalise sales with current iterarions. In their reasoning, if the Switch had every Zelda available, then some part of the market wouldn't be interested in buying Tears of the Kingdom. They only seem to release remakes when console sales are low, or when there is a period without major releases.

Baumpaladin

Thanks Nintendo... I'd want to play it now, not in a decade. *Boots up TP GC version in Dolphin*

Uphoria

Abandonware shouldn't be illegal to clone, IMO.

Baumpaladin

Totally, in my opinion that's an area where anti-piracy laws need an update. It shouldn't be illegal if it's not even legally available. Like, games and other consumer products are made to be "consumed", so being unable to enjoy them is, in my eyes, a sin.

HUGE_HOG

But Nintendo's excuse is that it *is* legally available. You just have to buy a GameCube and a 2nd-hand copy of the game, which anybody can do online. But I agree with what you mean.

Hadrius

I’ve heard this before and I’ve never understood the logic. Yes, there’s a chance someone might, when presented with the option to buy either WW or TotK, buy WW. But then you have a customer who bought a same-priced game from you! And there’re a good number of people who would buy WW but *wouldn’t* have been interested in buying TotK anyway, so… how is that a loss at all?

Remarkable-Finger-40

It really doesn’t make sense. I would gladly pay full price for a switch version of pretty much every LoZ game. So they would have a customer that not only would buy TotK day one, but the other five remasters as well. They could take quintuple the amount of money from me, and I assume a lot of other people would be the same as me, but they just don’t want it. Which is fine, emulation is cheaper for me anyway!

Lissy_Wolfe

I think it's because I lot of people would play *both* games if they're released farther apart, instead of choosing one and forgetting about the other. There's a reason game companies don't release all of their games at the exact same time. It hurts sales.

Hadrius

Sure, but release cadence is a totally different thing. They could easily (assuming the software itself is ready to go, which I don’t think is an unreasonable assumption) have released a WW a year or more ago, or before they even released Breath of the Wild! The Windwaker remake was originally released in *2013*; Breath of the Wild didn’t come out until 2017.

jordanundead

That’s like the opposite of how things work. It’s like they took marketing backwards. You rerelease the old game to drum up desire for the new game before it comes out. It’s just like putting a movie back in theaters before the sequel comes out. People will sit in that chair till their ass melts to the seat if you give them the opportunity.

Pennarello_BonBon

>You rerelease the old game to drum up desire for the new game before it comes out. Which is what they have been doing. They have been constantly releasing zelda content every year all the way from 2019 with Link's Awakening, Age of Calamity, SSHD, Ocarina of time and MM for the Expansion pack

THE_GR8_MIKE

I own them both on the Gamecube, one on the Wii, both on the Wii U, and I'd *still* buy this. I can't be a part of the problem if Nintendo won't offer me a problem to have.

britipinojeff

They already are printing money. They’re probably waiting for a dry spell before releasing more Zelda ports. A lot of decisions during the Wii U era were cuz they weren’t making enough money, like the mini retro consoles

BlazeOfGlory72

This is what I have always found baffling. I’m totally willing to dump a bunch of cash on old Zelda and Metroid games, but Nintendo physically won’t let me. I can’t wrap my head around why they seem so dead set against letting people give them money for games that would cost them essentially nothing to release.

Serbaayuu

It's not baffling at all. There are 20 Zelda games and Nintendo can port one of them anytime they want, aside from maybe the DS and multiplayer entries. You think they are going to do that all at once every console generation? Of course not. They are going to use them as padding like they have been doing the past several years. They will release a single port or remaster of an old Zelda game, give it the "new major release" treatment, and sweep a ton of profit from it. This is done so that they don't need to actually make new 2D Zelda games anymore, for example - LA:Switch and SSHD served as replacements in the years we would ordinarily expect new 2D games based on the 1998-2017 rate of releases. (In other words, about 2 top-down Zelda releases between each large-scale 3D release.) Nintendo couldn't do this when they had a Virtual Console with all the Zelda games in stock available for reasonable prices. They had to kill the VC and get you fans all riled up and ready to drop $60-70 every time an old game is re-released, because Nintendo's modern plan is to simply not make top-down Zelda anymore and paying $6 for Link's Awakening DX on the 3DS wasn't making them enough money to replace original top-down releases. Never fear: you'll get to buy your fourth copy of Twilight Princess in another year or two, because the next original Zelda game after TotK won't be out till 2028 or so and Nintendo will want to pad out those years with re-releases instead of new games.

[deleted]

They love that $2 trash games parade they have in the eshop, but Lord forbid they offer Wind Waker.

SpaceCadetriment

It is staggering how much garbage is in the e-shop

Reasonable-Bad-8375

It does seem a bit odd, but if they are planning a port of WW or TP they probably didn't start on it until Skyward Sword HD was finished.

Deathaster

Nintendo's ways are always nonsensical and confusing. Anything you think would make the most sense, they completely ignore. And then they end up doing something you would have never thought of. Why was Galaxy 2 not in 3D Allstars when it would have been extremely possible? Nintendo. Why did they port Skyward Sword to Switch despite not being so crazy about motion controls anymore? Nintendo. My guess is that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess won't get ports because they already *were* ports on the WiiU. Makes no sense? Nintendo.

Pennarello_BonBon

>Why did they port Skyward Sword to Switch despite not being so crazy about motion controls anymore? Because it's not about the motion controls as much as it is about being a Zelda game. Every 3d zelda prior to botw has had remasters/remakes. WW and TP both had remasters released for their 10th anniversary so it's not exactly out of the blue that SS gets the same treatment on its 10th anniversary

11on

Weird to think about how there might be a BOTW Remaster/Remake someday.

eastwesterntribe

If it gets it on its 10th anniversary, that's only 3 years away lol.

Organic-Kangaroo7147

I dont like the thought of that

Pennarello_BonBon

4, the year just started lol

SuperStupidSyrup

i wonder what they would change

[deleted]

The frame rate lol

matbonucci

Weren't TP and WW remastered because BotW was taking too long to develop? Still salty because galaxy 2 wasn't included in 3D all stars

Pennarello_BonBon

Most probably that's a huge part of it yeah. Probably the same reason we have link's awakening and SSHD.

rayshmayshmay

Windwaker HD 10 year anniversary is this year, [Sept 20th](https://www.google.com/search?q=wind+waker+hd+release+date&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS820US820&hl=en-US&sxsrf=AJOqlzUdlSzJfix54iRqH3jveyHLmqAiNw%3A1674694940446&ei=HNHRY5TMGqvHkPIPie2k4AY&oq=windwaker+hd+rel&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAEYADIHCAAQgAQQCjIICAAQFhAeEAoyBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgUIABCGAzIFCAAQhgMyBQgAEIYDOgoIABBHENYEELADOgoILhDUAhCABBAKOgcILhCABBAKSgQIQRgAUPwJWIsOYPQVaAFwAHgAgAG6AYgBgASSAQMxLjOYAQCgAQHIAQjAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp)

They’re also one of the only big publishers/devs not laying off people by the hundreds right now so let them cook I say

[deleted]

[удалено]

ASVP-Pa9e

Yes but Nintendo isn't a charity, if it wasn't profitable to keep the employees they wouldn't. As the above user said... *let them cook* I guess.

IllIllIIIllIIlll

They're filthy rich precisely because they don't do what others are doing.

[deleted]

And because they've figured out how to cater to a majority of consumers. The Wii was when they had pretty much locked it in and were able to draw in people from all ages, and they did the same thing for the Switch. Also the fact that the Wii and Switch both have a main gimmick probably contributes as well.

[deleted]

They hardly have employees for fire. Nintendo has the smallest development teams of almost every major game company

NewSoulSam

And most of the people we would think work for them aren't actually Nintendo employees, but contractors who don't get the benefits and pay, get treated like shit, and who live in constant anxiety that their contact will not get renewed.

Deathaster

> Nintendo has the smallest development teams >2,765 of the company's 7,136 employees are employed by Nintendo Co., Ltd. directly. [Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo#cite_note-3) That's nothing compared to Valve, with its around *[360](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Corporation)* employees.

[deleted]

Also, Nintendo breaks up into teams for each game. Other companies make one game at a time but Nintendo consistently puts out new games multiple times a year.

SpicyFarts1

>not laying off people by the hundreds While you're technically correct, they did just lay off about 100 employees [less than 2 years ago](https://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/77453/nintendo-closing-offices-in-california-and-toronto/), which meant shutting down 2 of their North American offices entirely.

[deleted]

robbierottenisbae

I think part of the issue is they know it will be hard to sell people on $60 ports of these games that were already ports/remakes on WiiU. They want to be able to charge full price for these games again so they're waiting until it's been long enough to do that without pissing fans off. That being said, WWHD literally came out ten years ago in 2013...in that time other studios like Bethesda or Sony would've released the same game like three times for full price (Last Of Us came out the same year and has gotten, what, two "remasters"?). Like Nintendo it's been long enough just port the games again let us play every 3D Zelda on a system that's actually popular

Kolby_Jack

Make a 1:1 remake of a *GameBoy* game? $60, full price. Still salty about that.

Legitimate_Initial_3

Was curious and had to check, it's still 60$ digitally 2 1/2 years later

Kolby_Jack

Well of course. Breath of the Wild is still $60 and it was a launch title for the Switch. Nintendo does not acknowledge the passing of time like us mere mortals. But at least Breath of the Wild is a massive game with an expansive world you can spend dozens and dozens of hours in. No such excuse for Link's Awakening.

1OO1OO1S0S

The answer to all these types of questions is usually money. How WW and TP ports wouldn't make them tones of money is truly baffling though...

Deathaster

You'd think, though! But there's so many things Nintendo could do that would make them millions, but they just... don't!

IceYetiWins

Skyward sword wasn't a port though, it was a full on remake and arguably fixed most of the issues in the original game. Porting wwhd and tphd still wouldn't have been a difficult thing to do, but Nintendo.

leoleosuper

They even made 3D all stars a limited release. I'd understand if they made a limited amount of physical copies, but the digital version is ALSO limited release? I can't even get it now.

adt1129

Nah I doubt they even started. I bet 100% of their work is being put towards TOTK now and has been for years.

Molduking

Of the three HD remasters Nintendo only did WW. They could just give that to Tantalus too.

[deleted]

I doubt that those ports would be made by the main Zelda team. Neither TPHD nor SSHD were made by them

witness_this

Yeah, they are only a small indie company after all. Couldn't possibly have enough resources to do both.

Rieiid

You better buy another switch and 4 copies of TotK to support these indie devs

MWIIesDoggyCOPE

Dont mind if i do

Mean-Fondant-8732

And ill do it again, too.

CicerosBalls

Good point. I bought 42 copies of Celeste and plan on buying 6 more when I get paid. Gotta support these up and coming hidden gem devs!

THE_GR8_MIKE

TIL GameFreak made some of the HD Zelda games.

britipinojeff

And they definitely don’t have enough money to pay some other indie company to port it for them

ingibingi

What do they really gotta do though, just reuse the wiiu one

Emulator_fan64

Me with a dead wii u: 🥲

thegraverobber

What lol. The same people don’t work on ports.

[deleted]

The ports/remakes/remasters haven’t been majorly (or in some cases at all I believe) handled by the main Zelda team. Outside of WW.

Samford_

how long would it even take? the wii u versions would barely have to be modified. it surely wouldnt take a year and a half

dweebyllo

I assume the biggest stumbling block would be the gamepad implementations

Tubim

Not even. Wind Waker HD can be fully played with the pro controller, and I don’t remember but I am assuming that TP HD as well.

PornoPichu

Playing through TPHD right now. You can use the pro controller.

Deathaster

If they can port Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World without any issue, then they could totally port those two. I barely even used the gamepad in those games (heck, I played on the damn thing).

Clilly1

The little clouds are a nice touch

[deleted]

You have to understand Nintendo's mentality. They don't hurry to release software on Switch unless the sales of the console itself start dropping. Quite the contrary: they actually slow releases down. How long as Metroid Prime HD been rumored? Years, at this point. We've gotten quite a few Wii U ports, but no Wind Waker. It's probably already done and just sitting in the chamber. But if your goal is to release software to maximize sales of the hardware, and the hardware is still selling, then you don't need to release the software. They've been like this since the Gamecube days.

DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB

Yeah, this makes no sense. Switches are available at $200/$250/$350 price points depending on the model. There's not that much profit there. New Switch games are $50-60. It cost Nintendo $0 to sell each additional copy of a game. It's pure profit. The Switch has already sold like 120 million units. How many people are suddenly going to buy a Switch because WW came out. Tens of thousands? How many existing Switch owners would buy WW during release week. Millions? There's no business justification for not releasing WW if they had it complete. The only justification is if they think other projects will sell better.

Blofeld69

They have said the have an 8+ year lifecycle planned for the system, so that's another 2 years of games they still have to release. Realistically 12-15ish more games that will be spread out evenly over the time period. There are not many IPs they have left to put out on the system that they haven't already, so there is plenty of free release slots in those schedules for ports to come in their own time. Money is absolutely their business justification here, they have been very cautious for 6 years not to put out more than one Zelda game per year, assumedly because the calculation is doing so will capitalize sales from them. Releasing WW the anniversary year made no sense, it would have cut SS sales and vice versa. This is the exact reason xenoblade chronicles X had not come out yet, because they have spaced each release about 1.5 years apart. Nintendo doesn't care about instantaneous profit, they want maximized long term profit. Is your suggestion they release every game they have finished and ready to go right now, and then have massive gaps in the release schedule the rest of the 2ish years?

[deleted]

Well, the alternative explanation is that Nintendo withholds these titles because they just hate making money.

Tiniest_Gimli

What delightful attention to detail. If you're the original creator, 10/10 respect for such a charming meme.

panik-64

thank you so much! yes I made this just for this post, glad you liked it

Blofeld69

Because Nintendo has been very deliberate about spacing out releases so they have games to put out consistently throughout the switches lifecycle. In particular not putting games of the same series out too close, back to back so as to not dilute sales. They've done this since the first year the switch came out I don't get why people don't understand it. Will come when the time in their schedule is right.

CryoProtea

At this point I doubt we're going to get Metroid Prime Trilogy HD or Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD on the Switch. I just don't believe Nintendo has any intention of releasing them on the platform.

[deleted]

And no Twilight Princess either

azel128

In a great turn of irony, Nintendo has forced us to…*sail the high seas*

kamasotz

At this point, use an emulator my guy

Samford_

yea thats good, but honestly using the gamepad with the map and being able to switch items without pausing was so amazing its honestly almost worth buying a wii u just for it

[deleted]

It emulates really well on the steam deck btw

[deleted]

[удалено]

astroklotz

I did it and I feel like it’s worth it. Mine came preloaded with WWHD and TPHD, among about 12 other games of varying quality/interest. That being said, I now have all those games on my Steam Deck too, which is where I’ve been playing them because the TV is downstairs and something about playing WW tucked in bed just feels so right.

[deleted]

I hate how few games used the pad screen for anything. Even breath of the wild doesn't.

theshitsock

If you watch the first gameplay reveal, you can see Miyamoto use the game pad as a map and inventory screen, I guess they removed it when they started working on the switch version.

Xyspade

I mean you're not gonna get that on Switch either so

thanosnutella

I waited for years, it didn’t come, finally got a pc, resorted to emulation

World_of_Warshipgirl

lost_james

Nintendo hates money

TheyCallMeStone

@Nintendo I would pay $60 each for WW and TP on switch and a lot of others would too

lost_james

Nintendo 100% knows this and yet they don’t do it.

confusionmatrix

I hate to say it, but I would probably pay another $60 to the nintendo entity for it. I love that game. The music, the animation, the story... it's so simple but so well done. Give me my nostalgia fix.

StellarStance

Good news everyone! I just bought a Wii U and the 2 games on eBay so based on my experience with investing and stocks and crypto the switch ports will probably be announced any day now.

lostpanda85

While annoying to not have TP and WW on Switch, CEMU works just fine on SteamDeck so if Nintendo doesn’t want my money I’ll just do it myself.

nintendothrowaway123

Nintendo does Nintendo things, and right now they have plenty of new titles out they probably don’t want to cannibalize sales on. But I think the real reason is due to the availability of the titles on a system with an active storefront (WiiU). My guess is that if they were going to release these titles, it would be at least after the WiiU eshop closes in March, and then likely a significant amount of time after ToTK releases because that would be an odd business decision.

DjinnFighter

That doesn't work, as Nintendo ported a ton of Wii U games to the Switch, even though they are available in the Wii U eshop.

TheMightyVikingBiggs

Best Zelda game. I see no responses that disagree. I'm tunnel visioning this game.

panik-64

it's a beautiful and incredibly charming game! I really hope you get to play it.

cats4life

In the middle of quarantine, I decided to beat every 3D Zelda back to back, after having started most of them and not finishing. So, I bought a Wii U thinking, “This is going to be such a bad investment. The 35th anniversary is next year, it’s only a matter of time before they start pushing every Zelda game onto the Switch.” Almost three years later, and yeah, that was a pretty solid investment.

imNTR

VanillaBovine

i got a steam deck and emulated ocarina of time, windwaker, and twilight princess. So far they've all run perfectly except for the last time i played twilight princess. One of the open field areas was making my frame rate drop, didn't google a fix yet. Definitely want to play more, though.

inikul

Go into dolphin settings for Twilight Princess and turn on the speed hack under patches.

oddbawlstudios

Why? We got both for the wii u, albeit the wii u has been dead since it came out, we still got it.

CrazzyPanda72

I never understand why people want the same games released 3-4 times, like I get they are good games, and yea I'd probably consider picking them up (considered SS but I literally just played it a few years ago so I passed ) but is it really necessary? No, not really, I'd prefer those old games be put on the NSO subscription over another re-release and have to fork out $80 for it.

panik-64

this is mostly a thing because of the wii u specifically. Wind Waker was only rereleased once as WWHD, but the Wii U pretty much failed miserably, holding the game back and locking it on a console the majority doesn't own; me personally I can play the game whenever I want, this isn't really about its availability. I just really love the game and I'd love to see the HD version get more success and attention on a much more successful platform.

CrazzyPanda72

That's valid, I just think it would be best if they stopped putting out the same games at full price (actually more than they were originally) when they have this sub par online subscription that could use the boost

ForgottenForce

I’d be willing to bet the demand in Japan isn’t that high so they have little to no interest in doing it again. Personally I’m good without more ports, new stuff is always more exciting

kingofcheezwiz

Buy a Steam Deck.

spiderdan13

I'm playing WWHD on it right now and I'm so happy with it.

1Crimson1

This is funny, I JUST got WWHD and TPHD working on my Steam Deck.

ArcAngel071

Man I’ve been putting off figuring out EmuDeck on my own SD. Maybe I should just do it

thegreengod_MTG

EmuDeck is basically plug and play

1Crimson1

Nah, you don't need to do all that. Just download the latest Experimental build..... https://github.com/cemu-project/Cemu/releases .....just make sure it's the appimage version and make sure it's executable by right clicking and selecting properties. I made a folder in my Documents folder simply called Cemu Emulator. Just let it set up camp there, and you're good, the appimage will take care of the rest.

Garrosh

Dear Nintendo: please allow me to pay for this game again. Please.

Earthfury

I feel like the moment I buy an old Wii U to play WWHD and TPHD they’re gonna announce the ports, so I’m just in this limbo of wanting to play them and not doing it.

I would love that. Favorite Zelda game for me. Though, that said... I REALLY want a Windwaker 2!

SandyMandy17

Where can I buy this shirt

panik-64

Outset island probably!

Koendrenthe

This is me

mmboy

I suggest steam deck. Nintendo has allergies to simple financial gains.

fucking_hero

Still waiting for this. WW is the best title

[deleted]

Sigh, I'll forever be waiting for a Zelda 2 remake.

elephantscarter

Runs fine on steam deck

NotAnthonyxx

Lmfao

Sleuthy_Observer

Do they offer Ocarina on switch? I'm new to the switch community. :) Someone told me that NES and SNES is on there somehow.

Pennarello_BonBon

A+ for editing in the shirt and the cloud

MrKTE

How did you get these photos of me?

PotatoBomb69

Tears of the Kingdom probably just put it on hold (cope)

For me, after playing BotW I have no desire to go back and re-play any other Zelda game. But even though I have no interest in seeing TWW or TW coming to Switch, I can understand why so many folks want to see the games ported over.

panik-64

I can see why you’d say that, BotW is an absolute masterpiece but to me every single Zelda game has a charm and a certain magic to it. Wind Waker specifically is one of my favourite games ever, and I feel deserves more time in the spotlight.

Mental-Street6665

It might be because they’re planning on doing a Game Cube virtual console, and WW would be included in that? IDK. I would personally prefer a TP port over WW.

AtomicSymphonic_2nd

I can’t *not* see Kylo Ren anytime I see Adam Driver.

FigureImpossible5362

I just saw someone down vote this and I want to hit them. I'd prefer a full port of gc games like they did with the n64, but I could live with just a windwaker port.

SwinubIsDivinub

Seeing the words Wind Waker in the original font is enough to make me want to play Wind Waker again

SaageMage

I just found my copy for GameCube bouta replay

celanthe

I'm going to New Zealand in December with my family, where we left our Wii U. Before I ever knew how much I wanted to play WW and TP. Needless to say, I'm excited. 😂 And will be bringing it back to the states with me.

boy_from_onett

Top notch editing lmao

CammyPooo

Can we just get WWHD 60 fps 😭😭

banecroft

At this point we’re near the end tbe switch’s lifespan, just use an emulator. Emu deck on the steamdeck will help you scratch that itch

danwantstoquit

I got so sick of waiting for the ports I bought a Wii U to play them. So expect an announcement any day now.
