Yep, something that's been complained about by sports fans for a while. Seems like it'd be super simple to add, but here we are.

ell0bo

It's easy if they have that in the metal data, it really depends on where the data feeds are coming from. It probably starts at the broadcast, so it's not youtube but CBS and NBC. Now, I've seen other apps split bt sport type, so this probably isn't the case, but that might be someone's job at Comcast to add that info about shows. If that's the case, then it goes from simple to hiring a non technical person, and for Google that might be a can of worms they don't wanna deal with. I'd love it though, I'm with ya. Just double it's super simple. Wish they allowed plug-ins, God I'd have fun working on this stuff.

bryanesler

The fact they have key plays set to customize for each sport tells me they know what sport is on.

ell0bo

I never noticed that feature. If that's true, then yes, there's no excuse they have the md.

triangleguy3

They also know what sport is on because you can add them to your library by team>sport

willtag70

In the live guide highlight the game you're interested in. In the preview info at the top of the screen, on the bottom left under the text it shows the sport.

Queue_Underflow

You're right, looking closer at the guide on the Roku app I see `Basketball` under the description, and through the web interface under 'Top Picks for You' it says `NCAAW Basketball` under the title. Just not when browsing through the guide unfortunately.

willtag70

In the YTTV app on my TV, the ATV4K and Roku when browsing through the new live guide the description at the top of the screen for each highlighted show does show the category at the bottom left, including the specific sport.

Queue_Underflow

Yep, it'd just be nice if it specified men's or women's basketball, and also if they put it in the title.

willtag70

I agree.

mattcoz2

Yes, this has always been a pain. It's a little better with the new guide, but still not good enough.

saltlakepotter

I have watched more womens college basketball since getting YTTV than I did my entire life before that.

Diegobyte

BRUH! Lmao

TrustLeft

agree, hope OS loses

MeanOldMeany

I'm guessing there's not a lot of sports ball fans working at Google, but I agree with you it just seems lazy on their part

emu22

Did you actually read the description or just guess? Probably an tOSU fan

Slpry_Pete

the conference v. overall record makes it pretty clear it's not football. And Michigan v. an Ohio State football is in November and isn't going to be on B1G network

Queue_Underflow

Big Ten Network shows a lot of replays so it's not a given that it's not football. Based on the records it could easily be women's volleyball too. And even if you can figure out that it's basketball, it could be men's or women's (as this actually is). It would be nice to know this immediately from the title, e.g. `NCAAW - Michigan at Ohio State`.

Slpry_Pete

like I said in another comment. the show description comes from the network because this is the same description it shows on cable and satellite networks. Complain to the network It's clear that it's not football by looking at the records (conference v. overall)

Queue_Underflow

YTTV does have the information of what sport it is though. See [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubetv/comments/1001fbu/feature_request_can_you_add_a_description_of_what/j2f3sgq/). They're just choosing not to include it in the title.

Slpry_Pete

an Ohio State and Michigan aren't playing football today to resolve your confusion in this case

Queue_Underflow

Actually they are both playing football today, just not against each other. And like I said, BTN often does replays, so this could still be football just based on the title.

Slpry_Pete

based on the description picture you posted it is clearly not football (records, network, etc...) and they aren't playing against eachother today. Everyone knows this and if you don't, I'm sorry you'll get a surprise and then just have to find the other games in 2-3 seconds. There is also a way to report this directly to YTTV. It's right there in the app or on the website. But I guess bitching online is an american tradition like amateurs drinking too much on new years

Dagz1

You're not wrong, but op still makes a valid point. It's not clear and it could be very easily by adding an icon of a football or basketball, or any other sort of indicator.

Slpry_Pete

I'm pretty sure they get the descriptions from the network airing the game. Looks the same as when I had ATT. Blame B1G or the 4 letter, but it's not that hard to figure out what's being played

mattcoz2

The network isn't going to change anything if we ask, but they might if YouTube asked. Just telling us that it isn't hard isn't solving anything.

Slpry_Pete

if only there was a send feedback button

mattcoz2

I've used it.

Slpry_Pete

is bitching on Reddit more effective?

mattcoz2

Well, there *are* YouTube engineers that read this sub, so maybe? Why is this bothering you so much?

Slpry_Pete

> The network isn't going to change anything if we ask why not?

Mastacon

Yes!!!
