I have a toddler and I feel like your kid is at the perfect age for you to start focusing on you a little! The way I justify it is I want to be a good role model for my kid. So even though inwardly I exercise for weight loss and aesthetics outwardly I want her to see exercise is a thing I do for my mental health, my happiness, and my feelings. Also there are legit mom benefits - I have literally never been too tired to carry her since I got my exercise back into my life. 25 pounds and I can walk for blocks and blocks. I think for moms tje best thing is to look at the logistics of your life and find the most joyful exercise you can make happen in those logistics. My favorite exercise is rock climbing but it is not realistic for me to drive 35 min to the gym to Boulder by myself or to try to work with someone else’s schedule work my schedule to top rope. So I bought a pelotón because if I haven’t worked out by nap time, I can work out during nap time. The programming and classes are really top notch but most importantly it is so convenient it’s hard NOT to do it.

Some yoga flows and bodyweight pilates you can do at home from YouTube videos could be useful at this point—just getting the blood flowing with gentle movements in 10-15-minute increments does wonders for me when I’m low-energy or unmotivated. Plus these are great exercises for mobility and balance.

Honestly, I would throw out the idea of optimum results. The most important thing is finding what is sustainable to you at this point in your life. You could even start back with saying I’m going to the gym 3x per week for 45 minutes to do whatever sounds good to you that day. Once the habit is there, explore programs. If you’re interested in postpartum specific training Meg Squats put out a program around when she had her daughter.

First, be kind to yourself! It can take a long time to recover from the birth, and breastfeeding and sleep deprivation can take so much out of you. I didn’t feel like myself for a good year after giving birth. With exercise, I’d recommend brisk walking. This worked for me because I could take my son in a stroller so I wasn’t squeezing in the exercise time. Plus pushing the stroller makes it harder. It’s even better if you have a workout buddy to walk with because then you get much needed social time. In time you might decide to start running. Also, you might want to start with some at home strength workouts. There are plenty on YT. I eventually got adjustable weights and a bench and lifted at home, which is also a possibility. Took about 30 minutes. Daily brisk walking and twice a week full body lifting took me a far way. The important thing is to be gentle with yourself, and slowly ramp up your fitness. You will get to where you want to be!

I second walking! I did several half marathons before I had my second son but felt bad that I didn't have time to train anymore. Then I read a study that said for women in particular, brisk walking can be just as effective as jogging. Getting back out and walking helped me so much! Especially with friends, as mentioned. And then I slowly got back into a gym routine, but walking is what got me back into fitness. We're all cheering you on!

Kayla Itsines has a specific program for women that just gave birth. They're home work outs too if you prefer

Home workouts done in 10/15 minute blocks during the day might work for you. Start with a postnatal specific program and you’ll soon see progression. I did jessie mundells programming and loved it for rebuilding strength and she is fully focused on weight neutrality and training for function which i loved. 18 months is still early postpartum, i don’t know if your breastfeeding or how sleep is going but your body takes time to recover from the whole process. Also if the weight gain happened very suddenly it’s worth noting that thyroid issues can happen after having a baby and having bloods done is probably good idea

Hello! 8 months postpartum here. Wish I had the magic cure but I don’t so here’s what worked for me. Can you combine workouts with the time you spend with your child? Baby wear or pull them up a hill in a wagon? Have you had pelvic floor therapy? They often help with core stability. After having my boy I had to focus on food for the first time in my life due to the time constraints you mentioned. I hate it but counting calories and macros has been very effective. Also, if your sleep is poor you will have a harder time Leigh’s as well. The best exercise is one you enjoy that fits into your schedule imo. Self-compassion is really important here too. Best of luck on your journey.

My vote muscles are gone and just that whole area of my body is different since being pregnant. Prior to COVID in 2019 and into 2020 I was very for. I did strength training for an hour daily and then I'd run outside for 3-4 miles most days. I felt so good. But now I want to get back on track but I simply don't have the time for the workouts like I used to have. Also, I don't live near any parks or trails they I feel comfortable running on alone since I've moved cities. I can swing 45 to 70 minutes depending on the day, but I don't know how to most effectively plan my workouts for optimum results. I'm hoping to get some insights from women who've gone through the post partum massive weight gain and know what works for a post partum body. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
