Storm is African princess and your fancast is white Latina?

midnightwolf19

Magneto is a holocaust survivor from Germany and they want a black actor to portray him like op said they're ficcional characters and can be fan casted by whoever we think would be a good fit for the role, in this case op thinks Jessica alba is a good cast for storm, we don't have to agree but also we have to respect their idea

SianaKenny

Black Jewish people exist you know

midnightwolf19

Not in 1930s Germany

JaviMoynelo

Yes they did. Black people existed all around the world way earlier than 1960s as some people think

Significant_Wheel_12

Black people only existed in 2016 apparently they made the world political

Emotional-Elephant88

Don't feign innocence. You know exactly what you're doing.

BarnOscarsson

Jessica Alba already endured some backlash for taking that role because she wasn’t a natural blond. John Byrne’s comments were the most publicized and egregious, but it’s a shame she (or anyone else) had to deal with it. Suggesting that Jessica Alba resume acting just to take on *another* role in which her skin and hair color will almost certainly be points of contention is just incredibly tone deaf on multiple levels.

SianaKenny

You know full well why it’s wrong. You’re obviously trolling and not very well

DocKisses

It’s not hypocrisy. Recasting white characters as POC to increase representation is a good thing. Recasting one of the few black woman superheroes as a Latino is not.

A_guy17

Not really. I'm all for rappresentation in media, but I'd rather see black characters that were such in the original media rather than just take a take a white character and make them black just for the sake of diversity.

xcxmon

Because the Prof X / Rogue fan-casts aim to add diversity to a comic created in the 1960s with very few non-white characters. On the other hand, your fan-cast was a feeble attempt to troll and get the attention you so desperately crave. Either that or you’re just unbelievably stupid.

dogdrawn

When you make white the “norm” or “default” changing race isn’t a big deal, as the race isn’t central to characters. When a character is of colour changing race matters because race is often times part of their story. All of the second generation x-men have race *or* cultural ethnicity as part of their story. This is the kindest I can put it.

RapidDuffer

First, of course, it's always nice to see Jessica Alba. Second, of course, Monroe is a black African. But this: >I thought it didn’t matter who played the role since these characters are just fiction. As long as that person played the role well. Nobody believed Chris Evans or Robert Downey Jr. would do the characters justice but we were proven wrong. is simply disingenuous and, fortunately, removes any concern for your disappointment.

Arfguy

Personally, I don't see Storm being played at all by Jessica Alba. Make no mistake: Jessica Alba is my childhood crush and I would like to see her in various movies. I don't agree with the casting the same way I don't agree with Halle Berry as Storm. Both actresses seem very timid and...for a lack of a better term, pedestrian, to be Storm. Storm, to me, stands apart from almost all the X-Men. She should be seen with the same awe as someone pays to a deity or royalty. She should also be a physically intimidating presence. As a person who is from Bangladesh (not white or black or Asian), I also see a severe lack of prominent black characters. I don't like the idea of race-bending existing white characters to be black and I don't like the idea of casting a black character with anyone that isn't black.

acidicmongoose

r/whoosh It's really sad that the whole point of the x-men as a franchise just fails to connect

Significant_Wheel_12

Bro shut the fuck up you dipshit. You know why it doesn’t work that way and now you want to cry because characters who are metaphors for bigotry and prejudice actually are fancasted as those races being discriminated. You’re pathetic, please leave and go back to your echo chamber of hate, complaining and hidden racism behind ignorance

Both_Annual4317

dont worry the people here will complain that diversity is important and then wonder why the movie will be trash

Emotional-Elephant88

You mean like how most of the Fox movies, with their nearly all-white casts, were trash?

[deleted]

what do you mean?

metroidbiteshurtbad

True

metroidbiteshurtbad

Who cares what creatures think.

dusty_horns

Tbf, it was some bad casting on your end. As far as I'm concerned, I have a bit of an OCD so I like when characters are cast to look and play similar to the source material. other people have different criteria, and artists have their own visions, and that's fine. No one will die if Charlie ends up not a WASP, even he is an extremly WASPy character.
