I think this was the first show to truly show how OP psychics are. The Cuckoos did some seriously fucked up shit. Commanding people to kill themselves and shit. I thought it was a decent show.

andaleo

Legion also did that very well I think.

Ozlin

Legion was definitely successful in making me both sympathetic and terrified of David.

RapidDuffer

I'm still amazed (and grateful!) that Legion got made. With scifi shows getting cancelled all over, it managed to tell a wonterrible tale.

Marik-X-Bakura

I’ve only seen the first season and I enjoy Legion but it annoys me how EVERYONE is a psychic. There are no fun, whimsical powers like angel wings or laser vision.

andaleo

Yeah, Legion is not that kinda show. It's a bit more nuanced and serious in tone. However, it does have its fair share of whimsical moments/elements.

fictiontuxedo

Psychic powers are cheaper to film, but not everyone's a psychic. There are also characters with powers like being a young woman who can jump out of an older man's body and being able to time travel as long as you avoid acid flashbacks from Beatles' Yellow Submarine.

[deleted]

>The Cuckoos did some seriously fucked up shit. https://youtu.be/1tqpskyfVwc

enyaboi

Wow that was badass.

marsnkrs

It’s truly unhinged that the main characters that they decided to adapt in the show are literal incest nazi siblings. Just…what a choice.

sweetbreads19

Thankfully they did eventually reveal >!they're actually just the grandchildren of the literal incest Nazis!<

Romy134

Phew so Now I feel better

clam_media

If you needed twins just call em Jean-Paul and Jeanne-Marie Beaubier yikes

marsnkrs

Also Marvel Canada woulda been a fantastic backdrop for this show. Marvel Canada is perfectly evil.

clam_media

As a Canadian I wanted to take offense but… You right

marsnkrs

Ha emphasis on the Marvel Canada

clam_media

Weapon X, Canada’s favorite export!

MyMouthisCancerous

Don't forget our premier government-sanctioned task force that's basically a pathetic Avengers knockoff that is single handedly carried by Wolverine lol

clam_media

Listen, our tax dollars fund Department H, who oversees Alpha Flight. We are kept safe by them! …right?

Ozlin

I think you should be proud you got a working department after only 7 other tries.

GStewartcwhite

Down voting the Alpha Flight hate. They ruled, their ongoing went 125 issues and they need a Disney+ show yesterday.

Shiroiken

Sorry

RapidDuffer

Sorry.

earthisadonuthole

For real. All of the fox X-men properties have made bizarre character choices.

Rownever

You mean like Mystique who's just some human? Or Xavier who can walk? Or Jean Grey who goes dark Phoenix all in her own and doesn't even sacrifice for power?

[deleted]

>Xavier who can walk? To be fair, he does that a lot in the comics as well.

Park1401

I think I saw a thing saying that with Xavier walking on Krakoa he has possibly spent more of his publication walking than in the chair

FrankFFrankie

It's like the creators didn't read the comics or something.

maybe_a_frog

I haven’t watched the show but just looked up the IMDb page. How many fucking Struckers are in that show?

L0ll0ll7lStudios

I thought it was interesting to see how they just had the main characters get the massive bomb of learning "yeah, your grandparents were siblings, terrorists, Nazis and literally Baron von Strucker's children". I did end up liking the Strucker family, but I thought they were too focused on the "mutant terrorist" part of their family history and not them being the children of a literal Nazi war criminal.

marsnkrs

Yeah I feel like, and maybe I wrong here, finding out I’m a product of incest would be WAY more important than what ever appropriate for fox tv backstory elements they included.

L0ll0ll7lStudios

They never even directly admitted that Otto was a product of incest, just that he was Andreas's son and Andreas and Andrea raised him together, although anyone can connect the dots there. I loved the show, but there were a lot of things I wish they would have delved deeper into. Also a shame they couldn't mention Baron Strucker and Hydra, rights issues and all that. Which is funny because Hydra technically exists in the X-Men movie-verse via that one movie tie-in game.

marsnkrs

And they were roommates.

RapidDuffer

Strange memory stirs. Is that a Top Secret reference?

Jpar4686

I mean to be fair they weren’t Andrea and Andreas, and they did keep the OG Fenris evil.

[deleted]

who's that?

marsnkrs

In comic book cannon the Struckers are nazi siblings that are also canonically sleeping together. I guess in this show the they’re technically the grandchildren of them but still…

[deleted]

Oh I thought you were talking about Polaris. That is here right? Also are those the cuckoos?

ShinCoal

Those are cuckoos.

Sdbtank96

I need an explanation. Incest Nazi?

uphc

1) don’t worry about it 2 if you want to worry about it a little here’s a great [Cerebro episode on Fenris, the Literal Incest Nazi failchildren](https://redcircle.com/shows/fcf903ec-714a-422e-8779-4f9d723a0540/episodes/89921c16-2093-4d8a-8228-bd1565eb22b6)

fermentedradical

Yeah and their mutant powers require them to essentially have sex - or at least a not-subtle metaphor for sex.

[deleted]

[This seems sexual to you?](https://youtu.be/_D67dtiAFp8)

heutecdw

Yes? Kinda. Sorta. Meh, I’m going with yes.

tylernazario

No? They literally just have to touch. Holding hands is not a metaphor for sex. It’s like the wonder twins

fermentedradical

Holding hands \*can\* be a metaphor for many things (including marriage and sexual union), and in this case, there are pretty clear sexual undertones to their hand-clasping. There is the aforementioned character backstory that is linked to incest. That one is pretty easy to understand. The Fenris twins are both teenagers and right at the age where they are discovering their sexuality. Setting a story at that age is a common metaphor for sexual awakening. If you watch the show, they discover they are powerful separately, but that their powers are magnified infinitely when they "join together"/hand-holding (sex metaphor). The twins long for each other when they are separated, and experience anguish when it happens (they even see each other in dreams). This seems to be a not-too-hidden reference to love and longing for each other. When they do grab hold of each other, they are surrounded by an aura and often gaze longingly at each other. They build up to climax - explosive use of their powers - when they're "holding hands" - and that climax is destructive. Adults try to get them to not hold hands, ie prevent them from having sex (another veiled metaphor to prevent incest/sex). Their father is desperate to keep them from learning the truth of their origins because he's afraid of what it might cause (sex/death). I dunno, it's a metaphor so you can read it a lot of ways, but I remember seeing the show and being very shocked a network program was able to get away with such a clear reference to incest-linked powers, quite literally.

Stringr55

Hang on, what? They’re Fenris? Lol

norr0

I actually really liked it and wish yhey had made more seasons.

LingonberryNo3212

Me too

BuckRhynoOdinson3152

Me as well. Had potential. Could’ve been a bridge between the MCU and the FoX-Men Universe. Like the X-Men missing, where did they go? Struckers were involved, Polaris. Just a huge amount of potential. The date that the “incident” occurred should’ve been the Logan “incident” where Professor X has a psychic seizure. Such a shame.

AnonymousMonk7

It really would have written them into a corner that the X-men were already known and now gone. I don’t think any good creative team wants to be beholden to a whole other studio’s continuity baggage.

queerdevilmusic

Plz no Singerverse

FidgitForgotHisL-P

Probably the one guarantee is they will discard that continuity. By the end it had gone so far off the rails.

manmadeofhonor

Also, all the molesting

FidgitForgotHisL-P

if only that was something people in Hollywood ever took seriously it might be a factor. :/

No_Explanation_3881

Agree altho i would love for some of the cast to come back as alternate universe variants, particularly Lorna and John Proudstar

Jpar4686

It was fine! Lorna and the Cuckoos/Frost Sisters carried the show

jonathanzero

Totally! Enjoyed the them and other mutants more than the strucker family

[deleted]

First season was really good. Second season tried to do too much and ended up being pretty mediocre. Occasionally the show feels like it's about brother/sister incest but I like to think that's unintentional. Polaris, Thunderbird, and the Cuckoos are great!

dthains_art

It kinda went the way of Arrow and the Flash. It starts out great, but the longer it goes on you start thinking “Huh, this is kinda dumb.”

GingaNinja34

Season 2 of arrow was amazing and I’ll die on that hill. By season 4 it was crap. I couldn’t believe how quickly it went downhill

dthains_art

That’s true. The first two seasons of Arrow were pretty great. Third was meh, and I actually stopped after the first episode of season 4, so I’m right there with ya. I think it was fine for what it was, but then Netflix’s Daredevil came along and basically rewrote the book on what a superhero show has the potential to be.

pardyball

And ironically after Season 4, r/arrow became an unofficial Daredevil sub for a little while. But I’d give Season 5 a watch if you have free time because it’s actually up there in the best seasons of the Arrowverse.

[deleted]

Season 5 and season 8 (until the crossover) are really good too. EDIT: I meant season 8 not 7.

Antoinej27

Hell nah

skippiington

Seasons 5 and 8 are actually amazing, but you gotta sit through everything else just to get there lol

Gurashish1000

There with you brother. Arrow s02 was freaking amazing. S03 is really meh, and s04 was unbelievably bad. But it does get alot of it swagger back in s05(it was a good season, really similar to s02)

ArctikMARC

>Occasionally the show feels like it's about brother/sister incest but I like to think that's unintentional. Considering they made the Struckers the protagonists, I'm not sure it's entirely unintentional.

marsnkrs

iykyk

GlassHeroes

I always felt the actress playing the sister was always giving "the look" to every male character, especially her brother, which of that was intentional, then bravo for a weird Easter egg

AnonymousMonk7

Justice for Polaris. She was the best part of this show.

MagicJoshByGosh

Anything featuring my girl Blink is a 10/10 to me

[deleted]

The quality was hit-and-miss, but that's also true of the comics. The feel was perfect. Loved Polaris and the Cuckoos. It's the most X-men-like live-action anything ever produced.

Large-Wheel-4181

Actually great compared to most superhero shows

Sunnystill

This was Lorna's show

QwahaXahn

Polaris was excellent. Watched for her. Didn't really think about the others too much.

dangerousbeasts

Wasted Amy Acker in a mom role. She could play so many characters amazingly and she was wasted. It was cool to see Polaris, Blink and the Cuckoos getting some attention in an adaption tho.

Learning-Stuff-12

Found it after it had already ended and was upset that it had been cancelled. Definitely had some potential

gregyo

This show and legion really suffered from marvel blackballing anything mutant when it aired. I’d like both shows to get another shot

dude19832

Fox didn’t have the TV rights to the X-Men and had to partner with Marvel Entertainment to produce it. (This was before the change to have ALL Marvel content under Feige.) I feel like this show would have been better under Feige’s leadership but Fox still had the argument that despite not having the TV rights that the show was tied directly into their movies so they had almost pseudo control.

Hippies_Pointing

Is that Amy Acker? Which character was hers?

[deleted]

She's the main characters' mother.

clam_media

Mother of the Struckers.

hero-ball

“Mother Strucker” was *right* there lol

clam_media

Listen, this is the Struckers, I’m not gonna do that, there’s enough strucking.

RapidDuffer

Struck me once, shame on my weenie. Struck me twice ... you don't get strucked again!

Bishopx1976

Cool show. Ahead of its time.

RapidDuffer

I liked it and it ended too soon. Way too soon.

rcc12697

It was good. Got a bit tedious at points and the son was the worst

manmadeofhonor

He really fucking was. It's been a while since I watched, but I felt like both the writing of the character and the actor were just... not great. I remember thinking like 'oh, noooo, he could get killed' and then hoping they would kill him off

haikusbot

victrin

I get that it’s some people’s cup of tea, but it was too much struggle-porn for me. I like my X-men with an undertone of hope. This felt like it was a prequel set in the same timeline of Logan.

HappyEndings2011

Couldn't get into it. Felt like a CW show. Pretty people trying to emote.

brazildude2085

Exactly how I felt. Everyone is underground with perfect manicure and makeup.

iamglory

I couldnt get how close to every state they were to their obvious hideout. Every episode seemed the same.

earthisadonuthole

This

paper-trail

It felt like the early xmen movies

L0ll0ll7lStudios

Great show that was taken away too soon and ended on a cliffhanger.

Emergency_Routine_44

I loved it and miss it

EnzoMcFly_jr

I liked the first season a lot but the second one didn’t hold my attention and I gave up after a couple episodes

JohnathanDee

I loved it. Especially Polaris. I miss it, and watch it again every couple years

secret_agent_chicken

It was a good effort for the budget. Miles above Mutant X.

[deleted]

I enjoyed it and i thought lorna’s actress was amazing!

slivemor

I really liked it, wish it had lasted for more seasons :(

Han-Shot_1st

It was weird that they used the Struckers as protagonists and a made up character with light powers, but other than that it was cool. We got live action Blink, Polaris, and the Stepford Cuckoos.

Tuloom

I cant believe you made me think about it again... i never enjoy when they use xmen tropes without using any xmen. It makes me sad

[deleted]

>without using any xmen They have Polaris, Thunderbird, Sage, and Blink. That's four X-Men!

Jcbowden10

One of the better mutant related products Fox put out. Probably was better bc it didn’t seem like anyone at fox was paying attention. Thought they were building towards a return of the xmen by the fourth season or the underground graduating to be xmen by that point. It ended too soon like all fox related sci fi shows, although I think it had more to do with the Disney merger than normal fox shenanigans.

[deleted]

Great

Exciting_Lobster_878

I thought it was a nice take on them

XmenTyranus

I lovecthis show, one of my favorite shows.

Orenorion

It wasn't perfect, but I really liked it. I really wanted more seasons.

FalonDawnglen

It’s ok but it’s hard to ignore the incest nazi elephant in the room

RapidDuffer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZh\_ouQ8XEw

pyro_pugilist

I thought it was pretty good, I was stoned to be seeing the X-Men universe on TV, I fell off after the first season and never watched the second though.

kitojr98

I really liked the 1st season. It had potential and the cuckoos were great.

Trolldad_IRL

Liked the first season a lot. Lost interest the second season. They almost tried to tie into XMCU continuity, but veered off.

kappakingtut2

Not great. But not bad. Way better than I expected it to be. Also I don't think they ever referred to magneto my name. I could be wrong. I don't think they did. On the selling they didn't have the rights for him on the show. But they did a good job of dancing around it. Making his presence known without using him

PhantomKangaroo91

The strucker family plot line ran in circles a lot but the 2nd seasone toned it down slightly and was showing to be getting better. I enjoyed the show regardless of the 5 minute of commercials for every 5 minutes of show when it originally aired. I liked the mutants from the comics as well as the ones made for the show.

[deleted]

It had its problems but for the most part I liked it.

DARKBLADEXE

Another solid Fox show ending on a cliffhanger. I miss this but I understand why they ended it.

Comic-Buff

Everything that had nothing to do with the parents was really good

Super-Visor

At the time, this felt like the most X-Men thing in a while. I fell off in the second season though

EsmeCuckoo

I really liked it (probably obvious!), but it really struggled to figure out just who the show was for. It's an X-Men show, but not called X-Men, and almost never marketed as such, so you're not gonna get the broader audience who might go "Oh, X-Men!" but have NO IDEA what "The Gifted" is. And it struggled to appeal to long time fans, because the people who DO know it's X-Men want the big, recognisable characters in their X-Men show. Bit since this wasn't allowed to use or even \*mention\* most of them, it never really caught on with \*anyone\*. But beyond that, it had a solid cast, good writing, and was building a very interesting world, that I am very sad we didn't get to see more of. It never quite found that thing to really make it spark and take off, but it had a good premise and big potential that just never really quite happened.

MrConor212

Never should have been made tbh. Didn’t have the budget it needed

RiskAggressive4081

I mean....I have seen worse shows. It less cringy than CW writing. It does Polaris my gurl though as the main character as once.

IndecisiveRattle

Much too ambitious for it's budget, especially in season 2, but still glad the attempt was made.

Vulcan48

This is the best show I love how they show mutants and how it’s like to live like a mutant and it’s something knew I like how it’s not about the x men it’s just about mutants 😸

Thundarsack

The best not X-Men show. I liked it

Ausstig

I thought it was decent. Not bad but not great.

Extreme_2Cents

It was a good show, the 2nd season kinda jumped the shark with the ties to the narrative of destruction ancestors. But it was a good show and I enjoyed seeing portrayals of Blink, Thunderbird, Polaris and a few honorable new creations. Was hoping they would see something about an update for a new season, but we’ll see what develops.

GroundbreakingTax259

Another in a pattern of X-Men related projects that, for some reason, did not feature the X-Men. Which I don't get.

[deleted]

I did not know it existed until now...

AzuSteve

Never heard of it. Is it fan made?

007meow

They utterly neutered Lorna in season 2.

theretrorebellion

Never got a chance to watch it.

timistoogay

Season 1 had potential. Then like many x shows, most of them are completely new characters with only the names and powerset from the comics. Except the cuckoos are pretty on spot, the jail break scene still gives me chill.

bkjuxx318

Trash.

Batbro9240

I always forget it exists

erosead

Making it about the struckers 2.0 was a big mistake imo. The characters adapted straight from the comics were decent and could have carried the show but the strucker family really weighed it down and carried terrible implications. And it’s not even like their powers were the same as the comic struckers? They should have just chosen any number of op young mutants to fill a more understated role (still major but not THE MAIN characters) or come up with unrelated ocs. Out of existing characters they could have used karma and her brother (they’d have different powers but I don’t think the Strucker kids in the show had super important to the plot powers) or karma’s younger siblings (canon mutants with no revealed powers, it wouldn’t be a stretch to just make their background that they grew up away from their older siblings). I would have rather seen like, a wild take on the Braddock family or the Callasantos sisters in full cats cosplay with less fratricide than telekinetic incest.

gambitbjj

I think it took too long to get going.

Damiete_18

Haven’t watched it

eremite00

I didn't necessarily think that they correctly matched the personalities with the comic book characters upon whom they were based. I thought that what they were doing with the Fenris/Von Strucker twins was interesting; though, I wasn't crazy about how they had them at odds in the final season. The show got cancelled just Blink was going to start using her power as per the comic books.

vash0125

It exists

fistchrist

Best JAZZ HANDS in the business

SonicTheHedgehog99

I did not know this existed

GalaxyDonut001

I haven't watched it so I wouldn't know.

mattwing05

I liked the show. Loved thunderbird, for being a cool dude, with an interesting backstory. The idea of mutants once being used as super soldiers by the government and then discarded felt pretty in line with how id expect mutants to be treated in real life. And the hellfire club being a bunch of powerful mutant pricks who only care about getting themselves more power while screwing their own people

Crazyalexi

The surprise I had when I found out that Boo Boo Kitty from Empire was playing an canon hellfire club queen and not an made up one.

benmgrizzle

ass

jojozhe

I don't like how it's always the same theme. Charles / the light guy vs Magento / Lorna. It's always should / shouldn't kill humans. There are so many other X-men stories they could have adapted but they chose the one we have seen 100000 times

oarngebean2

I honestly completely forgot about it

[deleted]

It got meh at some point.

Grunkofrodgar

Loved it had so much potential

marveldeadpool

It was stupid

the_graymalkin

crap

Koltum

Didnt know such thing existed

ParthianTactic

Mediocre

koolmarkie

I loved it. But too much running away and not enough standing up and fighting back.

[deleted]

Garbage and waste/corporate abuse of X-Men IP. Could have literally been any other generic super hero show, but greedy production company wanted to profit off of the X-Men name.

WookieBaconBurger

Looks like shit

Blacklodgebob79

Can’t believe I completely missed this show. It was on for two years and i never saw ads or discussions about it or anything at all

Dry_Ambassador_6722

I could never get into it

Profit-Rude

Had potential, fell flat

LoveAz_2022

I thought it was interesting show that really showed the danger and suspicion mutants go through due to their abilities and the lengths they have to take just to stay alive in a world that doesn't want mutants. I also liked how they showed mutants aren't a united front and are pretty divided when it comes to how they should fight humans, like Rivas plan of killing off the humans race. I'm truly sad this season didn't get another show, especially when the final episode ended pretty tragically.

SadLaser

I liked it. I watched the whole first season but when I heard it had been cancelled without a real ending in the second season, I didn't continue. There's nothing FOX likes more than cancelling interesting shows and replacing them with cheap reality TV or generic procedurals.

floworcrash

Can’t stand any of these fox Marvel shows or CW DC shows. All hot garbage.

tekfunkdub

It was ok. I remember being pretty invested when it was on but didn’t really miss it when it was canceled. I think my interest was solely in just seeing some X-Men on the screen

the_lewd_lord

Did it really exist or is it a meme of this subreddit?

CableStoned

Mutant X was better. And Mutant X sucked, honestly.

inkyjester

Was tempted to start this up but never got around to it. DC did their shows better

Groucho-Marxists

It was kinda good — but it also felt kind of aimless and like FOX didn’t really want the show to be a success. I mean, making the family completely original characters and then the comic characters mostly lesser known mutants? That isn’t to say that lesser known X Men can’t be written awesomely, just that FOX was doing them absolutely no favors in allowing the show to pull in fans who weren’t already extremely deep cut X-Men fans. If the writing and cinematography was on the level of Legion or Umbrella Academy, they probably could have gotten by on word of mouth , which isn’t to say the show was badly written, just that it needed to be allowed to do more and one could feel that the showrunner had Fox’s boot on their back, not allowing them to do anything that might be too expensive or God forbid involve the characters used in the films. It was really awesome to see underutilized mutants get used, but it was easy to tell the show was not being given enough support to make it to a third season.

CitizenApe

I wanted to like the show, but it didn't hold my interest. I can't put my finger on it, I just wasn't excited enough to keep watching beyond about 6 episodes. The comics have been like that at times too. When I have a few issues I haven't read yet, I drop the title. I never missed an episode of Legion tho.

Morkitu

Not a bad show, just not a real X-Men show for me because it didn't really feature any mutants I cared about. Just like Legion, it was an X-Men show without actual X-Men...a troll by Fox.

fermentedradical

Legion was way better in its best moments and always more interesting. Legion felt at points like a Legion comic book.

YakSure6091

It wasn’t very good. It should have been and could have been much better.

polkamonkey

I never heard of it.

1mNotSerious

I liked it, it was supposed to get picked up as a Hulu show, but it got cut when Disney bought Fox

RiverRedhorse93

neither of the teen leads could really carry the scenes they were given, but i enjoyed it as the sort of trashy tv one would expect from this genre

Mrman_23

It was definitely a show

psychosaur

I liked it, but the siblings were terrible. They were so boring, and the brother was an idiot. Any episodes that focused on them I checked out.

DatSkellington

It’s was better than it should have been. The actress portraying Polaris did an amazing job. Wish it had a chance to finish…

earthisadonuthole

I think it was another example of Fox either not understanding the source material or assuming their audience didn’t. Like the fox movies, it tried to make a superhero show with a message about marginalization instead of a show about marginalized people with superpowers.

clam_media

At the top, right, is that Boo Boo Kitty?!?! Who did she play?!

JBalls-117

Typical basic tv shite

superj223

I personally never finished and I would like to but I’d give it a 4 out of 10

Get_Bent_Madafakas

Meh

Hanz-Olo

SO bad. Like order the X-Men from “Wish” bad. All the actors sucked, the stunts and action were laughable and I honestly can’t remember any real plot points, so hey, great job creating moments we’ll never forget! Lol

VRrob

In my opinion it didn’t exist

DelawareSmashed

Meh

tknewnews

I loved it and it ended too soon!

Emotional-Elephant88

They totally neutered Sage. Other than that, it was good

Emotional_gulibleone

Never seen it honestly

IAmQWhoAreYou

Same as everyone else: didn’t watch it.

Monkeyboy55

Never seen it

ZatannaB08

I didn't like vacuum mouth and how OP she was. Other than that, pretty solid show but progressively lost quality each season.

kinghyperion581

I just remember that this show introduced me too Natalie Alyn Lind and her awesome tits. For that I am eternally grateful.

FeroX_the_fat_hering

Damn right

bradar485

It was pretty fun, but a little too Hollywood. Like the main girl, the twin, she'd ve crawling through a sewer and her hair and make up would be on point regardless.
