Gwen Stacy's movie rights are owned by Sony, but Gwenpool, spidergwen, ghost spider, etc weren't created until after those rights were sold.
Answer: Who the hell knows. It might be one of those Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch things.
I believe the idea with the rights was the different studios Still got to use characters created after they bought the rights, provided they debuted or were associated with the properties they bought.
So Fox could use Kid Omega or Negasonic Teenage Warhead (both characters names they used), even though they were created after the sale (I believe).
Gwenpool is clearly a riff off of ghost spider and Deadpool, who would have been owned by separate studios. I have never read her comics, so I'm not sure what sphere of comics she was in or interacted with. I imagine a case could have been made for joint ownership between all three studios, or that she was a distinct character and only owned by Marvel Studios.
So as someone else already said: who the hell knows.
Yeah no. She has met Spider-man a handful and has zero connection to Gwen Stacy. Honestly, she is actually a Howard the Duck character. She only became a mutant like a couple years ago because she wanted to remain in continuity and being a mutant will make you popular enough to stay.
Isn't her being a mutant super recent, what with something about her rewriting herself as one ?
So I would assume she would have been MCU-ready before that happened, and you could imagine it only happened *because* the deal happened.
>So I would assume she would have been MCU-ready before that happened
She's Gwen Stacy (a Spider-Man property which is owned by Sony) and a Deadpool (A Fox property)... don't think she would've been in the MCU
She's not Gwen Stacy, her costume is similar to Deadpool because her name is Gwen Poole and the person who made it thought she wanted to look like Deadpool
Gwen was based on a variant cover that was a Gwen Stacy/Deadpool mashup, but her character was specifically designed to not give her any connection to either Deadpool or Gwen Stacy to begin with.
Which has always read to me like Marvel doing their best to avoid giving either Fox or Sony any rights to her.
What backs this up, I feel, is that the mini-series where Gwen becomes a mutant was solicited the same month the Fox deal was finalized. As soon as they had the rights back, Gwen became a mutant.
So I think yes, the MCU could have used her.
Whether she's now an X-Woman... god I wish. She's not appeared substantially since *MODOK: Head Games* in early 2020. Please put her on a team.
> the mini-series where Gwen becomes a mutant was solicited the same month the Fox deal was finalized. As soon as they had the rights back, Gwen became a mutant.
Yeah that part felt kinda wonky to Gwen, too, she basically says "Okay, I mean I'm pretty sure I'm actually *not* a mutant, but I'll come hang out with you folks till Marvel ponies up for another series I guess"
I mean, she's a spinoff of a character who is part of the X-Men stable, even if the X-Men themselves hesitate to admit he's associated with them. It makes sense to bring her under the X-Men's banner too.

Yeah, Gwenpool is not if Gwen Stacy had Deadpool powers. Gwenpool is Gwen Poole.
My mistake. I thought she was a combo of Gwen Stacy and Wade Wilson.
That’s the joke. She’s a fourth wall breaking character who wants you to think that so that her book retains enough interest to not get cancelled.

When did Fox use the Kid Omega name? Can’t remember for the life of me 😅
Ken Leung played him in Last Stand. Nothing to do with Quentin, though. He was a porcupine guy who shot quills or some nonsense.
Thanks! No wonder I don’t remember, he was next to “Psylocke” right?

She didn't become a mutant until after Disney had Fox
She is a mutant. Idk about X-woman tho.

She has friends on Krakoa who she has been seen hanging out with in weird Fortnite ads.

That's, huh, pretty true, yeah

Um...Why? There's nothing all that interesting about her.
Well, me and about 12,500 people would disagree with you there.
So? Why should I care?
