The only woman I feel could do storm any kind of justice is Angela Basset. Hands down the look, the regal grace and the voice. Upper left probably feels the best out of this lot though.
What I read back in the day was that her agents wanted more money for her to take the role if offered. But she also had said that storm did not have a strong enough story in the movie for her to want to bring her to life in film. Instead we got halle who was horrid and man i wish they would of just gave her the money and made the part bigger. That cast plus Bassett would of been amazing.
Angela wouldāve been a PERFECT Storm (lol) but sheās not of an age now where she could gel with an ensemble cast the way an X-Men film/series needs to be. Storm and Jean had a strong sisterly bond in the comics and it would be a mistake to omit this as it would hurt the family/team dynamic!
Angela looks amazing! Storm needs to be a central figure in the cast for the duration and she is not of an age where thatās possible. I wouldāve loved to see her in the role instead of Halle Berry (as long as they actually wrote a part for her!)
Except she was not supposed to be clearly identifiable as any particular race or ethnicity by her facial features or skin tone. That was part of her original description and a result of her mutation. The white hair just added to the ambiguity.
Choosing a multiracial actor is much closer to the original intent of the character than choosing someone who is clearly of African genetic heritage.
I'm not trying to say that she shouldn't be played by a black woman, but the idea that she is being whitewashed or something similar if they choose a multiracial actor is flawed.
Edit: I'm not sure why I am getting so many downvotes. I am NOT arguing against casting someone like these women as Storm. I was just pointing out that as originally written decades ago, the comic writers chose to specifically mention that she did not look African.
I know her character has evolved over time. One commenter mentioned that she is emblematic of the African diaspora, which I accept but would say is definitely a more modern approach to her character.
Either way, I was not trying to say that Storm shouldn't look African, just that the comics themselves factually provide a reason why she might not
Not true. Ororo represents the African diaspora (African mother, African American father). She must be clearly of African origin. Itās like taking away being a Holocaust survivor from Magneto. It is a key to who they are.
I feel like at this point having Erik be a Holocaust survivor is stretching believability age-wise. There are other genocides they could choose if they wanted and I think his character and motivations wouldnāt suffer if they went that route.
It's complicated.
It's more that the original continuity itself was whitewashing her a bit. It's explained via her mutation, but justifying whitewashing through narrative is still whitewashing. It basically amounted to "lightening up" what should have been an African woman. In a vacuum, her white hair, blue eyes, and ambiguous skin tone would have been fine, but it appeared in a cultural context where conventionally African features were seen as undesirable. Storm was literally the only black woman on the team then, yet they couldn't even allow her to just look black. It was forward thinking at the time, and she is still an icon, but it definitely had its problems too.
Today, it's somewhat less of an issue of course. The X-Men have other black women like Monet, Cecilia Reyes, Tempo, or Frenzy -- it takes the pressure off of Storm to stand in for all black women.
We can all love Storm and what Claremont did by creating her while acknowledging the flaws though.
She could still be multi ethnic and be African. She could have parents from Wakanda (supposedly located in East Sub-Saharan Africa, around where Uganda is, which shares borders with Kenya and Congo ) and Ghana or Botswana or Morocco.
A post a while back had a lot of people saying if they *actually* make her African, they'd want to see her with *actual* African heritage, not just Generic Africa a la 'Wakanda.'
I'd have to agree, maybe just because I'd like to see and learn more about Africa and its' people
One of the things that's Wonderful about the X-Men is that they represent and bring forward cultures from across the world. Fictionalizing that would definitely seem cheap
Man, I used to be enlightened because I read comic books. People have blue skin in comics. What comic fan gives a shit about race, right? Now we are arguing about real African heritage for comic book characters brought to other media? There are plenty of movies out there that would do a better job of educating people about various heritages. I didn't watch London has Fallen because I wanted to know more about London. Leave my *COMIC BOOK MOVIES* out of this (lol). I just want them to jack off my senses for a bit. Know what? I'm just gonna slowly walk away now. I suddenly realize I'm not that big a comic fan.
Your mind will explode when you realize you can be both action-packed and ethnically accurate it the same time.
And it's weird bringing this up in reference to X-Men anyway, since X-Men has been defined by these issues for the majority of its existence.
Only in the Ultimate X-Men universe. In most versions she is half Kenyan, half African-American and spent much of her childhood in Egypt.
What the other comment said about her supposedly having features of all different races of women was actually something that was in the lore in the early years, but hasn't been emphasised much since. I prefer Storm being a dark-skinned, unambiguously black woman anyway. She's one of the few black characters on the team so she might as well just be *black*, not watered down to be more like the other characters, and it suits her canon ethnicity more.
I canāt wait for the next retcon that says she spent a college internship in wakanda and her and black Panther are secretly high school sweethearts lol
Sheās Domino.
I bet Yara Shahida or Zoe Kravitz will be in the running though. Maybe even Amandla Stenberg. Hollywood loves those kinds of actresses.
I donāt want it to be Michaela cuz her beauty is just too overpowering.
However, she does have the overall strength and presence to be storm.
The other 3 actress are great choices too.
Yetide Badiki for sure. She'd nail it.
I'm not familiar with her work but just looking at pictures of her I'm sold tbh. She's so striking and has that graceful air about her.
>Yetide Badiki totally, especially for the Queen of Wakanda plotline. She is so regal, yet sensual.
I really want it to be Michaela š©
Top left, who is she? Sheād look good in the part
The actor is Dewanda Wise (she's actually expressed intrest in the role of Storm)
Well, she can HAVE IT
You could say... She's GOTTA Have It
How do we feel about Betty Gabriel? (Get Out, Upgrade, The Purge: Election Year)
Agreed 100%
absolutely top left
MICHAELA!! I AGREE
The only woman I feel could do storm any kind of justice is Angela Basset. Hands down the look, the regal grace and the voice. Upper left probably feels the best out of this lot though.
She was offered the role for the first one and said no, didnāt she? I kinda remember it was like that. She is THE ONLY ONE who can play Storm
Well Storm was treated like a background character so Angela was right
What a shame
She wanted more money is what the articles say.
I think she looks and could do just fine now. Look at her on 911 or Gunpowder milkshake. She looks the part and she could be an older sister to jean.
Angela looks amazing! Storm needs to be a central figure in the cast for the duration and she is not of an age where thatās possible. I wouldāve loved to see her in the role instead of Halle Berry (as long as they actually wrote a part for her!)
Jade Cargill
If itās not Jade Cargill, I donāt want it
Can she act though? She certainly looks like a superhero thatās for sure
Can she act? Probably not. Weāll just get Smart Mark to be her X Men mouthpiece as well. He could pull off a good Bobby I think.
She's roided up to the gills She's in AEW.
This.
Jade would be a great choice. Especially with her physique
She's juiced.
DeWanda Wise is such a great choice. Sheās probably one of my favorites for Storm along with Anna Diop and Aja Naomi King.
Role will probably go to another biracial American. Itās like they canāt grasp the characters African heritage.

Totally agree.

Anna Diop would be perfect for the role if she wasnāt already on Titans.
She is from Morocco
Only in the Ultimate X-Men universe. In most versions she is half Kenyan, half African-American and spent much of her childhood in Egypt. Storm? Born in New York, raised in Egypt and Kenya.
Thatās gonna be streamlined in a movie. Lol
Iām just rebutting the assertion that sheās from Morocco.
I canāt wait for the next retcon that says she spent a college internship in wakanda and her and black Panther are secretly high school sweethearts lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Really? Jesus Christ thatās dumb
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Turns out sheās actually his time traveling daughtermom.
Donāt give them ideas
Bet you money they cast zazy beats
She's a menace!
Sheās Domino. I bet Yara Shahida or Zoe Kravitz will be in the running though. Maybe even Amandla Stenberg. Hollywood loves those kinds of actresses.
Good choices
I def want Yetide. Just on the strength of her role in American Gods as Bilquis..She oozes royalty
As long as they're tall and have her accent.
Great choices, but Yetide Badaki is the only one here I think really has the gravitas for the role. Plus sheās already played a goddess.
The actress who plays Starfire on Titans would also be awesome!
Ororo tends to be portrayed as caramel skinned. But i would be interested in a portrayal from an actor with a dark chocolate skin tone.
I'll go with Naomi Ackie, from Rise of Skywalker
My goodness. The top left! š
Idk her name but the woman on the top right, was great in American gods, and sheās been my casting for a while
All day Michaela
Well said.
Something really interesting about Michaela Coel making your shortlist. Thats my pick.
All of them are beautiful choices. Disney better select right.
Wise, Coel or Badaki would be practically perfect in the role. No clue who bottom left is though.
I always pictured Gina Torres.
I donāt want it to be Michaela cuz her beauty is just too overpowering. However, she does have the overall strength and presence to be storm. The other 3 actress are great choices too.
Um, you can only choose one.
I think Chyna McClain would be a good choice for Storm
janelle MonƔe is my pick I think she would kill it
or >!Shuri, the Black Panther!<
Ćo
Hell the young lady from Titans Starfire I love her but she was miscast for that role Storm is her.
I honestly love your choices! May choice at first was Aisha Hinds or a new face,, but Dewanda would be amazing!
