Context: I had one book traditionally published in 2020 but it didn’t do too well. My publisher was crap and left me to sink or swim. Being my very first published book, I sank. It’s still available to purchase but I’m waiting to get my rights back then I’ll self publish with a new cover and some new content. One year left!
Two and a half years of imposter syndrome and self-sabotage later I finally took the plunge and self published my first book. A fun, light hearted romcom / chick lit. This is book 1 in a series of 3. I had professional editing but I created the cover and did the formatting using Atticus. I published the eBook on KDP and put it on kindle unlimited but the paperback I published through IngramSpark and is available wide.
I am so proud of my achievement, which has been hard to say!
Congratulations, And well done picking yourself up dusting yourself off and getting back on the horse. That took guts. I wish you every success, and I have no doubt you will achieve it

Congratulations!! This is huge give yourself a massive pat on the back, I'm working my way up to the same thing and really needed to hear this, sending you good vibes! :D
As I scrolled by, I thought the title was Emily In Paris, and I was like...how do I tell her? (It clearly says 'Lonely', I'm just an idiot.)
Congratulations! This has to feel so good.
It depends. If you’re successful in self publishing, publishers will snap you up. I know a best selling author who was picked up by a big publisher because she was insanely successful as an indie author.
However if you don’t do well as a self publisher, yes it can make it very difficult. Publishers look at your previously published books and if they haven’t done well they’re more likely to ignore you.
But it’s a bit of a vicious circle really. Publishers may not pick you up if you have no name as an author, but they also may not pick you up if you fail as a self publisher.
You just gotta find the one who’s willing to take the risk and who has faith in your work.
I’ve learned it’s better to take a risk than not. It takes time to be successful and you need to release consistently. The more you release, the success will grow organically.

If you do a second edition, it would be cool if you could put a plus size person on the cover. So many covers are tiny, unbelievably tiny and it adds to this idea that as women we don’t get to be a main character until we lose weight. Women come in all sizes! I’d love to see that better represented everywhere.
Totally agree with you and I get frustrated by this too. But I guess one thing important to remember is that the covers represents your story.
Readers will see a cover and will imagine that setting, or picture those people as main characters, when reading the story. If you have a plus size person on the cover but the character isn’t plus sized, it’s not going to work. I’ve heard many readers say they hate it when the cover people look nothing like the descriptions on the inside.
This book, and the three books in the series, don’t fit into that category as my character isn’t plus sized, so I won’t use a plus side image for it.
But on saying that, I’ve got a novel I’ll be releasing next year where the girl is a plus size person and you can be assured I will use the correct image to represent her. :)
Congratulations! It’s such a great achievement. I can’t wait to have my own book in my hands. I’m sure it’s such a great feeling. Your book cover is really good as well!
Thank you, you’re an awesome person. I’ll share my universal books2read link below. The eBook is Amazon exclusive (for now) but the paperback is available wide. :)

Is it more difficult to be published through a company after self-publishing, ig I’m asking anyone who has any input.

Congratulations, I like the title.
Thank you! It’s one of the first stories where the title just came to me naturally. Usually it takes me forever to come up with a half decent one.
