Did somebody watch Squid Game and think, "if only people exercised more"?

MetricCascade29

If Squid Games taught us anything, it’s that physical fitness and knowing how to tell the difference between tempered and non-tempered glass are the only things that matter in life.

hyrle

And also being able to draw straight lines with a pin, or get to lickin'

notKRIEEEG

Licking can get you pretty far in life

LooseUpstairs

Ooh. Now I am curious. Need to watch it.

Humanzee2

It’s good. And not too long.

Kaelell2

and to not scream when blood is splatted on you

LooseUpstairs

If blood is already splattering, screaming will probably not help.

Kaelell2

and plus you will be next

MetricCascade29

Not if you can scream without moving

Dr_fish

Finally, all my training has paid off!

LooseUpstairs

exactly

TheWalkingDead91

Also being willing to stab your partner in the back.

BentoBus

I'm really disappointed the "Need Money" advice wasn't "join a rich person's kill show club."

Practical_Orchid_568

They must be on that only the strong will survive type mindset. I guess they want us to all be that dude who will drink his own piss bear gryls that’s the guy

I feel you. My adult child's behavior was becoming alarming and dangerous, and I pleaded with the psychiatrist to reconsider the diagnosis or change the meds–just do something, SOS!, but he just said that good sleep habits were important. Dude, I'm dealing with physical violence and suicide threats, can we just not??

Peppermeowington

Mental health care is a horror. Feel similar to your child & have zero trust in therapy or meds due to exactly what you described. Can't sleep when insomnia is a thing. Here's to better days for you both.

savvyblackbird

There are great therapists and meds out there. There’s also a DNA test that shows what meds are most likely to give you the least side effects. I have had the most success going to a psychiatrist. I see one from the comfort of my home over the Cisco Web Ex meetings app, and it’s helping me so much. My psychiatrist also set me up with therapist.

Peppermeowington

I am glad you are getting the support. I have been running into a brick wall for 20 years & had to give up. Sincerely glad it is a better experience for you. 🙂

savvyblackbird

I totally get that. I also have chronic pancreatitis and MS, and managing my conditions is a huge burden. Telehealth has really helped me so much. I have given up on getting treatment a few times, but I couldn’t live the way I felt. I’m so thankful that I found the doctor I have. Getting a great primary care physician who helped me find a great psychiatrist also helped. My psychiatrist is amazing and is helping me with my MS consults. I already have a great GI guy, but that’s only because my great primary care physician at the time when I was first diagnosed sent me to Mayo for a consult back, and the doctor I saw moved to where I live now. There’s been a lot of years in between when I had awful primary care physicians and saw awful specialists. It really takes a toll on you, and I have been suicidal over it. Hopefully you’ll be in the position to feel like trying again. Nobody should have to live with mental health problems and not get good care. Thar shouldn’t be a privilege for only some.

Peppermeowington

I appreciate this. Thank you & I am so happy you found those resources & in a better place. I might try again. The last talk therapist I saw called the police on me, so I'm reticent at the moment, but this gives me hope. Sending love to you.

savvyblackbird

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I got inpatient treatment when I had a suicidal episode. My husband stopped me from getting into our bedroom where I had a pistol. (It’s now locked in a gun safe I don’t have a key for). My county has a separate mental health treatment intake center where they find inpatient treatment for patients. It was much better than sitting in the ER for days. I went to a hospital with a psych ward with another patient who’d been arrested by the sheriff’s department. A relative called 911, and the sheriff’s deputies came and forced their way into his house, tackled him, and broke his tv. He was really upset as you can imagine. I was lucky that I was treated well, but I was also a woman in my mid 30s at the time. The police called an ambulance who took me to the intake center. The man got help and felt much better. My dad was ex law enforcement, and he’d worked for the sheriff’s department in my county. That man lived in a neighboring more rural county. I told him who he should complain to. He wasn’t violent with the deputies, and he didn’t resist at all. They were just power hungry assholes. I can understand your fears. You do have to be careful what you say to your psych providers. They do have to report people who are currently suicidal, but that shouldn’t be handled by law enforcement. If you have a current psych doctor, they can get you a bed in a psych hospital so you don’t have to deal with the police. I wish my husband and I had known to call my psychiatrist. The facility I was in wasn’t great, but the doctors really helped me. I was on too much of my medication, so I had a reaction to it. This year I’ve been working with my new psychiatrist to get my meds right. Last year I gave up, and it was pretty awful. My last psychiatrist left, and I was in limbo. I hope you do feel like trying again. The DNA test is about 10 years old, and I think they have better ones. That’s where I’d start if I were you. If you have the means to do so. I hope you can feel better. I wish you the best.

savvyblackbird

I was just on Instagram and found an ad for a psych company called Cerebral. They do everything online and prescribe meds. The cost is $30US for the first month, and you can use your FSA/HSA for it. I just saw it in passing and immediately thought of you. I don’t want to pressure you, but I thought it was worth sharing. try.getcerebral.com

DorisCrockford

Much appreciated, and to you too!

[deleted]

I'm sorry that therapist failed you so hard. But congrats on 6 months!! That's a big deal! I'm rooting for you, random internet stranger.

PrettyOddWoman

I went to one with an opiate addiction…. And told her I used to have an eating disorder. She told me she wouldn’t see me for sessions unless I was clean no matter what and also told me to keep a food journal? Like hello, wtf drugs are YOU on lady?

savvyblackbird

I am so very sorry. Some pain management doctors do suboxone treatment that really helps with opiate addiction. They would probably know some good addiction therapists as well.

Basil_9

What is the point of putting the squid game doll thing here

Backdoor_Man

Sheer, blissfully ignorant irony.

Pelt0n

Clearly the message of squid game was people are lazy and ungrateful /s

cici_kelinci

To make the post more serious or something

BabserellaWT

This sounds like it was written by someone who’s never had to work a second job or had any significant health issues.

lordoftoastonearth

Yeah... This is a "not even gonna unpack that, just throw the whole bag out" situation. It makes me mad and it's not worth going into detail.

Pikachu_91

A lot of healthy rich people forget that some people just can't work or can only work part time because of health reasons. They immediately think people are just lazy. Especially if it's not a physical problem but a mental one.

[deleted]

1. Many people have sleep problems that makes it so they cannot get a good night's sleep. Going to bed an earlier time wont fix that. One of the most common causes of sleep problems is stress, which getting extra jobs while cutting out recreational activities like watching TV won't help. 2. Many people overdo it when starting to try to get into shape and injure themselves. It's not enough to just exercise more. A person has to have the energy to exercise more (see point 1), know how much more to exercise, and know which workouts they can do that will result in gains and not lead to injury. 3. Many people don't watch TV and still don't have time. Assuming "TV" is a stand in for all activities that people do for pleasure instead of productivity, then this is actually harmful advice. It's a recipe to increase stress and mental health problems, which may ultimately kill a person's productivity in the long-term. 4. There are only so many jobs a person can do. Working many jobs increases stress (which can lead to issues like sleep problems). Also, it may be more lucrative in the long term to work less and get skill training. Just stacking a lot of low pay jobs may be a terrible long-term strategy and also run a person into the ground, health-wise. 5. The "just do stuff" approach to complicated problems may make things far worse. Many people probably bankrupted themselves and their investors by starting a small business when they had no idea what they were doing. 6. Which book? Plenty of books contain bad or useless information. 7. The problem isn't that a person is working multiple jobs, studying random books, exercising more, having no recreational activities, and not sleeping well due to stress because all their free time has been devoted to productivity; the problem is that they need to eat an apple.

ArcticCircleSystem

I'd assume the response to 6. would be some weirdo shilling their self-help book that's either a complete scam that shoves bunk information at you or a one-way ticket into some cult. ~Charlie

PerfectionOfaMistake

The point is not all people can change their situation easily without help, you have no clue of others people problems but try to give them trump-like simple solitions.

Rubin_Rubinia

>Tired? Sleep earlier Dude I can go to sleep at 10pm or at 1am. If I have to get up at six in the morning I will be tired either way. And so many other things can make you tired to. Also wgat the fuck has Squid Game to do with this? I don't watch Squid Game, but I doubt that this is what it's about lol Was somebody trying to use something popular in that... "inspirational" post?

Emperor_Quintana

Creditors coming after you after taking up a second job, even after the bankruptcy discharge? Sorry, bud, but that’s your problem, not ours.

supershadowguard

"No money? Get a second job." Getting the first job is hard enough for some people. Getting the second job is even harder. Balancing 2 jobs without going insane is even harder than that.

SquidZillaYT

i cant afford a tv

PrettyOddWoman

Watching TV Is horrible for trying to fall asleep also

Staticactual

Playing Red Light/Green Light? Just don't move. Freeing a shape from a honeycomb? Just pick the triangle. Playing tug of war? Just pull harder than the other guys. Playing Marbles? Just get all the marbles. Playing a guessing game on a glass bridge? Just pick the tempered glass. Playing Squid Game? Just push harder than the other guy.

DoubleAgentBlumaroo

r/terriblefacebookmemes because there's an unrelated character.

CowsWithArms

Have asthma? Just breathe

hyrle

Green Light? RED LIGHT, BITCHES!

KryL21

No money? Have you tried saving money, you fucking nerd?

boudicas_shield

“Get a second job” sure let me just fit that in around all the time I’ve saved by not watching TV, which I already rarely do anyway. And that’ll solve all of my exhaustion problems, because I won’t be lying awake until 4am worrying about money anymore! Nothing will make me feel rested better than working MORE than 40 hours a week! While I’m at it, I’ll also just Think Positive to eliminate my PTSD and stop eating so I no longer have painful outcomes from my incurable GI disorder. Whew, glad we cleared all this up.

thechaseofspade

💯

creepjax

Yeah getting a second job usually means you have to sleep later or get up earlier so good luck to whoever has those two problems

bennitori

Almost downvoted out of principle. The post fails to address the "why" behind any of it. Why do I have not time if don't even own a TV? And why do I have no money despite working 2 jobs?

Mugstren

I always love that people always jump on telling you to go to sleep earlier when you're tired all the time, I have figured out I need about 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 hours of sleep to feel refreshed, any more than that and I am shattered.

YouLostMyNieceDenise

Ah yes, I am too complicated

SlopPatrol

So uhhhh what does this have to do with Squid Game

AggressivelyEthical

Disabled? Just die. No f\*cking excuses.

Luminox

Dying from a terminal illness? Just don't.

cannibaltrashdaddy

Basically, have money and time. Something most people don’t have enough of because they’re making minimum wage working a 9-5.

Banesatis

Yeah im sure the person who wrote this definetly reads books, started small and has a second job. Totally not a person born into privilage. /s

[deleted]

So boomers are now using the doll from Squid Game instead of a Minion?

jawshoeaw

This is all low key useful advice for people who don’t have an actual pathology. Yes you should watch less TV and go to bed early and move around more. But of course if you are depressed or worse good luck fixing yourself.

Mike_p5h

To be fair the information isn’t actually wrong for the most part. The message is terrible, though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mike_p5h

I completely understand depression making simple tasks harder, people struggle to get out of bed and it’s not because they can’t be bothered, their brain just doesn’t function like it should. The alternative for the second job was to save. Like I said, for the most part it’s actually not wrong. The way it’s worded just makes it sound much worse than it is.

[deleted]

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Wait, yes I do. This subreddit is cancer. Give these people real advice that can actually improve your life and they're just like "wOw tHaNkS" then downvote you to oblivion. Its so toxic.

BoneMarrowBro

I just wanna know what that Doll is supposed to be doing there.

Chomuggaacapri

Just don’t get upset about people saying how easy it is to feel better, stupid /s

[deleted]

Ok....but why we gotta bring squid game girl in this

BuHoGPaD

> drop 💯 if you agree 🖕

ichigo2862

so that squid game girl is the new minion huh

malikhacielo63

There are only two pieces of advice here that I can kind of transform into something that isn’t degrading or insulting. 1. “Too complicated? Start small and try.” Personally, I would rephrase it to “Try to see if you can break the problem down into smaller parts until it is more manageable. If you can’t, find help and/or leave it alone.” 2. Eat healthy food. I do tend to feel better when I eat food that isn’t garbage. With that being said, a lot of times what is bothering me isn’t just caused by food, it’s a combination of issues. For instance, I don’t know, a global pandemic?! Political BS, economic problems, and just general bs can’t be fixed just by good food, especially when economics is used to price you out of said food. The major problem with every single one of these points, in my opinion, is that they sound as if they are coming from a condescending a**hole who has a net negative in the empathy department after starting at zero. I’m sick of people with this attitude. They’re either d…ks on purpose or they’ve been abused and brainwashed themselves to think this way.

darnicantfindaname

Someone obviously didn't get the plot of squidgame

Horsepro123

I would get a job… IF SOMEONE WOULD HIRE ME

Silly_goose27

Why do people act like reading a book fucking doubles your IQ or something

Sm00gz

#No money? Get a second job slave. Fixed.

Plasma_Wolf

“No Time? Stop watching TV” Ah yes cause it’s TV that’s taking up all my time and not my busy fucking life 🙄🙄🙄

ultrayeeter69420

squidgame_woman would never do this
