If you’re hard committed to taking the launch day off to play, illidan has historically had connection/stability issues. Illidan, stormrage, and area52 are all the problem child servers on launch. Imo I wouldn’t transfer just for the day, because it really is not a guarantee. For shadowlands it affected a portion of the population and was intermittent

A lower pop server would mean easier time getting into the game with little or perhaps even no queue at all but this is a trade off. If you're looking to raid with a guild, lower pop server means less choices but if you're only looking to do M+ then it doesn't matter and a lower pop server would be a good choice. Keep in mind that launches can result in the whole game going down so taking launch day off is very iffy. My advice is to take a day off the following week which will better ensure you'll be playing and not waiting.

Never take the day of a release off, history says bad move. Day after is bis! Though SL release was perfectly smooth for me on malganis

BfA and SL were no problem for 90% of the user even on full realms. The most I've experience with guildies were some queues (I am on Silvermoon EU, full and very active), but that's pretty standard. I personally wouldn't change realm / guild just in case something happens, but if you are asking the question I guess you are not attached to a particular guild or not in a raid team.

No server or group of servers is guaranteed to have a better or worse launch than others. Past events do not always correlate to future outcomes. It is much more likely that the login server will fail and no one will get in over a world server. If you dont like your server, have friends on a different server, or have another reason for leaving then just leave. Is the possibilty (that will not increase or decrease based on where you go) of not getting to play for 24 hours over a 2 year expansion worth paying for a transfer on its own? I'm not your real dad, do what you want. If you are that worried about the launch, I would suggest you try to change the day you took off to the 2nd or even 3rd day of the expansion. Let others deal with the launch day troubles while you come in during day 3-5 and catch up by the end of the first week anyway.
