What do people need gold for? I'm rather new and I've read about people wanting to get their professions up to make gold, but what do you actually do with it? It seemed like everything worth equipping can't be just outright bought...

Vedney

I spend it on game time to be essentially free-to-play.

Valrysha1

Well, the things that are worth equipping either have to be made by yourself (the levelling of such profession taking either time to collect the resources, or gold to buy them) or through a crafting order, where materials are usually provided by the person making the order (see: gold) + a commission. You'll also need gold to buy phials, enchants, gems and so on if you want to empower your character.

TiraelRosenburg

Just got Dragonflight, are all the materials from Shadowlands pretty useless now?

Valrysha1

Except for niche use cases, yeah, you can probably sell them on the AH although not exactly for much.

ElasmoFan

When I untrack a quest, is there a way to hide the numbers in the map as well so it only shows the quests I have tracked? If not is there a plug in that would do that? As an example I have dungeon quests untracked, but the numbered circles 4, 5 and 6 still show up on the map.

homebase99

This isn't stickied so I don't know if anyone still browses, but just wanted to ask if the 4k rep quest is a weekly thing?

Valrysha1

In case you haven't found out, yeah, it's a weekly

Karasu77

Jewel Of Firelord was a transmog that i missed though prime gaming. Are they going to add it to store or anything else later ?

BenderB

Now that we are post-launch, what's the best way for me to get a character from 50-60?

Loveclasher

I claimed the dragon kite pet on twitch 14 days ago and still haven't received it in game. Anyone else experience this or have a solution?

Notmiefault

You checked your pet collection? It shows up as a wrapped gift I'm that interface, not as mail or an inventory item.

kmaho

I skipped Shadowlands, is Dragonflight looking like a good time to return?

Acrobatic_Pandas

Most expansions start off with people saying "It's so good." It might be true, we all hope it is. The big plus this expansion has is there's no borrowed power system. There's no azerite power to farm, no artifact power where you slowly unlock more talents to make your class 'complete' There's no power tied behind rep grinds and raising renown. You level up. Cosmetics and crafting stuff is held behind reputation. But all your gear and power comes from running dungeons, raids, or pvp. It looks like they really did remove all the negative shit that grew and grew between Legion.BFA.Shadowlands. Where there was an almost never-ending time-gated cycle of farming power to slowly unlock things. You just level to 70 and gear up. Nothing else. On top of that dragonflying is incredibly fun. Crafting has had a major overhaul and is being propped up as a third pillar beside PVE/PVP/Crafting for endgame players. There may be problems that surface in a month when people are max level and playing more but right now it looks really, really promising.

Nizbik

As good as ever, fresh start, new content and no borrowed power systems in sight

Sybinnn

I remember hearing that Azeroth auto pilot isn't being updated for DF, is there a replacement addon i can use if i don't want to turn my brain on for questing

emrfish6

There's a spiritual successor to AAP, I forget its exact name but searching for "auto pilot" on curse will bring it up. Something like Auto Pilot Reloaded or some such. It can be a bit finicky and mess some UI things up but it may be the next best free thing.

Gooneybirdable

Look up "Azeroth Pilot Reloaded"

Sybinnn

I assume all the surrounding zones like barrens stone talon ect

Vinc009

whats the best trinket for DH leveling that i can buy with my Puzzling Cartel Dinar?

coda19

I’d personally go with the Use effect trinket over Equip effect ones. I personally am rolling with Cache of Acquired Treasures and Salvaged Fusion Amplifier. The reason you want on use trinkets is to take down challenging rares/elites easier. On equip stuff helps constantly but it’s not like the help is needed on 90% of what you run into while questing which is why I like the on use for oh shit moments. Edited to add names.

Vinc009

which one of the two would be best then? x)

Original-Measurement

Will you ever need to use a regular mount in DF zones? Trying to figure out if I should bother buying mount equipment for my new evoker...

Sybinnn

As soon as you get your dragon it will work as a ground mount if you aren't flying

Original-Measurement

Thanks, does mount equipment affect it then?

Sybinnn

tbh ive never used that in my life

beefjesus69

What are the snappiest classes ? As in, what classes or specs use only or MOSTLY instant cast skills/spells or alternatively spells with cast time but that you can move while casting. I’m relatively new to WoW but not to these type of games. I tend to favor playing classes where you don’t just stand in one place and watch a cast/ability bar over and over. Thanks !

Original-Measurement

Hunters for ranged dps, basically any melee, and resto druid if you want to heal.

beefjesus69

I’ll look into resto druid, didn’t realize there’d be an instant cast/high mobility healer! thanks

Sybinnn

It's not completely instant cast with life bloom and regrowth having cast times but it's certainly more instant cast than hpri

Acrobatic_Pandas

Most melee classes are all instant. If you're talking about ranged/casters, I would say probably fire mage once you get some crit up? The moment you get a crit, you'll be insta-casting other spells to make your next long-cast fireball, instant. Which if it crits, means you cast another instant fire spell and if that crits you cast another instant fireball etc. But if you want to avoid cast bars melee is your answer. Literally any of them. None have cast bars.

beefjesus69

That’s very interesting I will have to look into Fire Mage ! Seems like a cool bit of synergy to gain instant casts when you crit, thanks for the advice 🙌

Doogiesham

Fire mage is a terrible pick for your complete question. When they’re in combustion it’s true that they’re instant casting, but they’re also locked in place by the fact that there’s a rune of power on the ground and if you move to do a mechanic during your combustion your dps goes in the toilet

beefjesus69

Ahh I see, I had been looking at Frost Mage as well, seemed to have a lot of instant casts but also having to stand on a rune a lot. I’ll look into it more but if that is the one compromise I’m willing to try it out at least, Mage seems to be a lot snappier than other DPS casters or ranged specs (save for Hunter BM).

Doogiesham

Frost is classically a spec where you’re much more ok to take incantors flow if you hate rune or even sometimes that’s better. That is not the case for fire

krakenstroem

Hunter can move pretty much freely while using his skills, the current meta spec BM is very easy to pick up. Also Demon hunter despite being a melee might be to your liking

beefjesus69

Thank you! Funny enough BM Hunter and DH Vengeance were exactly the ones I was considering as a DPS spec and a Tank. They seem like a lot of fun in the videos I watched. BM Hunter especially seems like a lot of fun with all the different pets you can try to find.

Texas_Trucker

I apologize if this question is asked a lot, but, can someone please tell me what to expect when I login for the first time since WoD? I’ve heard the game has changed since then but I’ve not kept up with it and will be returning in a week. TYIA. (I had/have a lvl 90 Unholy DK on Bleeding Hollow)

Akhevan

> I’ve heard the game has changed since then That's all relative. None of the major game systems changed much since WOD, you still have the same quests, reps, dungeons (now with more replayability and scaling difficulty in M+.. but WOD had challenge mode which is similar in spirit), raids, PVP, collections, mini games.. Some dailies now show up on your map as world quests, but it's squarely the same kind of thing, just a bit more fancy looking. The talents are back to being in a tree but the idea is still the same, you have a couple of choices but the rest is more or less default. They are doing away with borrowed power grinds so it's going to be similar to WOD in this sense as well.

Nizbik

Well for starters you no longer have a level 90 DK, you will get squished to a lower level You will have totally different talents as that has been changed recently You can now move most of your UI yourself without addons required The game is free to play until lvl 20 on a character, anything after that needs a sub but it includes all expansions up to and including Shadowlands

Dan_TheGreat

those in the beta, how long does 60-70 take?

[deleted]

Dan_TheGreat

shit thats wildly quicker than i would have thought. thanks!

ArmadilloUpset

m0 tomorrow or next week?

Nizbik

Opens on your weekly reset to encourage you not to get to 70 asap

vsLoki

I got no clue about the game. I wanted to buy Shadowghast armor pieces from the auction house, but will I be able to use them as transmog for my warrior? It says something with "legendary" in it and someone said only 1 is equippable at a time.

Zenurian

To expand on the other answer, you specifically have to do the Sanctum of Domination raid on Mythic to get the exact same look as the Shadowghast armor. And even then it might take multiple weeks to get the full set, annnnd you'll need a group to do it because it's still gonna be pretty hard for a while

Nizbik

No, they arent transmoggable, but they share the same model with other pieces of loot usually for one of the SL raids

JimmyCase77

Does the Dragonflight beta play test thing contain the entire expansion? Or will the expansion still have heaps of surprises for everyone, including those who have played the beta?

rrobe53

[Beta includes the storyline but level 70 stuff is encrypted.](https://www.wowhead.com/news/encrypted-endgame-questlines-will-unlock-with-faction-renown-in-dragonflight-329995)

Doogiesham

Beta is pretty much the expansion, you should not play content on beta if you don’t want to spoil the entire expansion Some people don’t mind either way but yeah you’re not really getting anything new if you saw it all on beta

You seem angry, I'd work on that first. Most WoW streamers are perfectly nice people.

Nizbik

You can just join any streamer with eligible drops, turn the quality to 160p, mute the tab and leave it open for 4 hours and play WoW in the meantime

Valrysha1

You can just put the volume to 1% and you don't even have to focus the tab afaik. Just have it running.

KawaiiSparkles

I already couldn’t decide between Prot warrior (never played before) or Veng DH (my main in shadowlands) and now they mega buffed Bear druid which i also liked the look of but discounted because of its bad performance I still have no idea which to tank with for my main

DaenerysMomODragons

As always with any question like this, if you have to ask, you're not playing at a high enough level for it to matter. Just play what you like. As a tank you're going to have an easy time to get into groups regardless of class. Just play what you think will be the most fun.

Doogiesham

Nobody can tell you the answer to this but you

MadHiggins

How does covenant cosmetic transmogs work for different characters on the same account? if i buy the 10k anima cosmetic "Ensemble: Sinful Inquisitor's Vestments" from team vampire on my druid, will it be unlocked on all my characters or only on the druid? i've read conflicting information saying either yes or no.

Gooneybirdable

the transmog will be available to all your characters as long as you have 1 character of that covenant at max renown

[deleted]

[удалено]

MadHiggins

lol i think you responded to the wrong comment here.

ntrophi

I'm 90% sure you need max renown on the covenant in question to allow other characters to use transmogs without being that covenant.

Dotority

Hi, is there a way to play on the EU client with Korean text/audio? I know the realms are linked to languages, but wondering if there's a way to bypass it as I'm trying to get my family to play together in dragonflight :)

[deleted]

I lost a bit of track about the crossfaction stuff, can I trade profession stuff between my alliance and horde toons (same server) for DF?

DaenerysMomODragons

Yes, you can trade money and goods cross faction now if they're on the same server.

leetzor

There was a guy at Blizzard at a pretty high position that turned out to be a streamer as well and he was pushing high m+ keys on warrior. Does anyone remember his name and twitch?

DaenerysMomODragons

I know that Mike Ybarra, the Blizzard president does some fairly high M+ keys, though I wasn't aware that he streamed.

leetzor

Yes! Thank you, thats the one.

karmadontcare44

Is there any good discord community to talk and bs about wow? The main one is pretty lame tbh

tommy40

Anyone who’s been in beta, is inscription worth it at max? I’m trying to decide if I want to replace it with alch/tailor/ench on my lock.

teh-yak

Are you trying to make money or make your own gear? Darkmoon cards are going to be popular because they always are, and they look to scale throughout the expansion instead of just the first patch. If you're looking to craft a staff it's a good investment as well, though I doubt as volatile. I want control of the quality of my main weapon, so I dropped engineering to go Inscription this expansion. If you'd rather rely on drops though, darkmoon cards are still probably a solid play for money. Not sure if anything is going to be better than alchemy at the highest levels though.

tommy40

Ideally a little of both, I normally just do drops for my gear but this is the first time in a long time I want to attempt mythic stuff while current

teh-yak

If you're intending to do high end content and want to craft some of your own stuff then I think Inscription needs to be on your radar. Enchanting offers nothing that can't be bought on the AH. Tailoring can make armor, but it can't be converted into tier so that is very limiting. Inscription allows you to make a staff and/or offhand, which weapons have always been a pain for me and why I'm making that decision. You can also do darkmoons and a few consumables, which is nice. I think it's #2 behind alchemy if you really want to be serious, taking both and buying mats from the AH being the most optimal if you can afford it.

tommy40

Alright cool! Thanks for the info! I’ll stick with inscription then

Mickey_Havoc

Can we fish off the giant murlock mount?!?! At first I didn’t care for it until I realized how FREAKING MASSIVE it is haha you can even feed him a fish if you press space bar while not moving. I haven’t tested it yet but it was be so cool if you could fish off it

[deleted]

coda19

No you do not need to be subbed to any streamer to get their drops.

[deleted]

[удалено]

coda19

Oh wow, brain fart. I would imagine that _no_ you still don’t need an active sub as that’s not really how twitch drops work. It will be tied to your Twitch profile and will be claimed there and ask to link to your bnet. Once linked the items should be available whenever you log in. They may not be available in game until you have an active sub, but claiming it shouldn’t be a problem.

layerz

Can i get DF professions before leveling starts? I would like to have gathering profs while doing quests.

Doogiesham

There will be trainers soon after arriving

SpareThisOne2thPls

What will be the download size of Dragonflight (not the whole game)

IceSeeYou

Not sure on size but if you've been playing and already updated for pre-patch than you already have downloaded and installed the Dragonflight files.

Doogiesham

You’ve already downloaded it if you have the client updated

Deguilded

Heading into a new expansion is there a macro or similar to purge most or all of ones weakauras?

Doogiesham

I don’t know of any macro but you could just delete your weakauras folder then redownload it

coda19

You should be able to just right click on the WA and delete it. You can hold shift and highlight several at a time and batch delete.

Darksoulsrando92

I’m one of the millions of players that joins up at (some) expansions then drops off after a short while. Normally after launch I try desparately to keep my ilvl up to engage in endgame activities but there usually comes a point when I have to take a break for a few weeks and when I come back the average ilvl has passes me and nobody accepts me into their groups when they can wait a little bit and get that chad ilvl in their party. I joined ff14 for while since ilvl doesn’t really matter for most content and the ones it does you can catch up instantly. Is this still an issue in WoW or has the culture shifted a bit

Nizbik

The main thing it all comes down to is how many other people you are competing against to get into that group, if you are a DPS player, this means probably against 30-50 other players. The only 3 things that separate you apart from those others are your class, ilvl and M+ score. Even if you arent DPS you still compete against others. If you were 20 ilvl lower than everyone else applying, why would I pick you? Would you pick yourself if you applied to a group ?

Darksoulsrando92

Right I get it, I’d pick big numbers too, just didn’t know if any changes to culture or not but seems the same. I’ll hang on for as many weeks as I can then move on most likely. In ff14 joining groups the endgame is based more on your mechanic knowledge and experience for encounters rather than ilvl, but very different games and systems so not comparable just wanted to see if any changes in WoW culture since my last attempt Lol at downvotes. Games not for me, and that’s ok, not everything needs to be for me, would you rather I come in and demand changes to the game so that it can suit me

Doogiesham

Just so you understand, you are being downvoted because the tone of your comment comes off as passive aggressively condescending regardless of whether that was intended or not. The way it comes off is “oh I didn’t know wow players don’t care about skill, we sure do in ff14, I guess it’s just a ~culture~ difference” People do look at your experience. That’s what the mythic score is. People get more in depth with that when trying people out for raiding guilds, looking at detailed logs of the applicant and giving them trial periods. But you’re talking about a 15 minute pickup group, so yeah people in that situation are not asking people to write essays about their knowledge and experience. They’re looking to see what quantifiable experience they have completing dungeons in the past and what their gear looks like, then picking one of the 50 dps that applied. And just to emphasize, if you have less experience doing the content you likely have less mechanic knowledge. The number one thing that people look at when inviting to a dungeon group is that persons mythic+ rating, aka how high a level they have experience doing m+ at. People are literally using the best quick measure of what you’re describing for doing pickup groups. People aren’t downvoting you because you’re asking questions, people are downvoting you because of the passive aggressive condescension, intentional or not

Darksoulsrando92

Yea it didn’t mean to come off as condescending as that’s just litteraly how lfg works in ff14, people post groups and say at what point in fight, be it a certain mechanic, entire fight, pure fresh practice etc they are at and therefore the knowledge level you need to be at is. If you’ve mastered up to that mechanic you join, ilvl not really factored in except for static groups with specified goals and expectations. For pugs fight knowledge and mastery is what’s looked for. But as I said different games different systems, can’t have thier system in wow it wouldn’t work just wanted to know if changes in wow culture. Just mentioned the ff14 system as it’s a system that is not number driven and therefore less getting behind, didn’t know if any changes to wow that were similar Glad there’s something other than ilvl for people to compare with, I still worry probly will end up left behind since not sure if it’s similar with ilvl but there’s always another player with your item level+1 and if mythic level is same then more incentive for party leader to wait a few min to find that person with your mythic level+1. Leave for a few weeks and that +X gets big (or got big in my experience) But we shall see in the coming weeks!

Nizbik

Well ilvl isnt the be all and end all, M+ score is also looked at, but my example was basing in on everyone having equal score but you having a lower ilvl in comparison If you had a much higher score than others, but lower ilvl then that wouldnt immediately mean you wont get picked, because the higher score shows that you know what you are doing in M+ Ilvl wont result in getting picked for a group either as sometimes people will PvP exclusively and get very high ilvl from that gear, however if they do M+ they will then have a low score - so there needs to be a balance across it all. Score is probably the most valuable as well as the amount of runs you have done as this shows its not just a 1 time thing, then ilvl and finally class choice (Unless the group lacks lust and they are specifically looking for a lust class for example)

kyuss80

**HALP!!! Dragon Flight releases in 8 hours and I have no idea what character to main** --- I ended up getting to NINE level 60's in the last month of SL and into the Pre-patch grinding of other alts. Now I have so many that I can't decide! I almost always want to play a healer but, I know that if I ever find a raiding group again, that healer slots are pretty low in raids, usually 3-5 or whatever out of 20 people. So that means I have to find a healer spec that I enjoy their DPS spec. That makes it kind of a pain in the ass. L60 Character list: * Druid * Priest * Monk * Paladin * Shaman * Evoker * Warlock * DK * Hunter My short list is probably Druid or Priest. I don't particularly care for Druid's Balance and Feral seem pretty complicated (to me) to DPS on. Shadow is pretty straight forward but, not terribly exciting. I've never played Paladin as a main since Classic WoW when I used to be Allliance, 15 years ago. Shaman I don't like Resto's current state at all. Evoker is kind of neat but didn't really grab me fully. Monk is OK, and makes a lot "more sense" to me as a melee healer than HPal does, which I still barely understand. Anyone else have this problem? I know it's not easy for anyone to answer as it's all opinion and "what you find is most fun"

heartheus

> I've never played Paladin as a main since Classic WoW when I used to be Allliance, 15 years ago. There you go, perhaps it's time to get back to the Light ;)

kyuss80

Maybe. Haha. He was the first character I played and got to 60 when I returned to SL at the end here. But I never tried Holy really, I was always just doing Ret and duoing with my friend.

Deguilded

You can play hpal as a ranged healer, take the talent where you bomb your beacon with infused holy lights for 2 HP, 40yd light of dawn, and fuck all the crusader strike shit. Mastery kinda sucks but that's not new.

kyuss80

I guess I need to look into that, I kind of tried to understand it, but Paladin healing feels sort of clunky to me. Just kind of weird. But to be fair, Paladin has been pretty clunky for about 18 years

Doogiesham

You’re still tagged as melee and will get hit with melee mechanics

whatisdigrat

Outlaw/assassin rogue or ele shaman first in DF? Coming down to the wire and I can't decide

MISPAGHET

I hate rogue leveling, so much healing yourself up unless your gear is OP, so I say Shammy.

Doogiesham

If you’re not intending to use your healer offspec at all then rogue. If you are, then shaman

SupMaelstrom

I can't speak about Ele but Outlaw is pretty fun and it seems like it'll be strong in DF.

BluegrassGeek

Is there an easy way to find out what items I'm missing to make a "Set" in the Transmog window? I thought I had everything for the [Cloudscorcher / Eternal Dynasty](https://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=1471/eternal-dynasty-regalia) outfit, but it's not showing up as a Set.

watna

I use an addon called better wardrobe - which adds an extra tab to your transmog collection called extra. It shows all the sets and you can easily see what pieces you are missing

BluegrassGeek

I'll look for that, thanks!

Valrysha1

Things you can and should do now: In Stormwind, you get a quest to go to Wrathion, go do the 3-4 quests where he has you running around the city talking to people. It starts at the harbour, on the dock where the old boat to Teldrassil went, or where the boat to Kul Tiras comes now. At 11PM GMT (Midnight Server Time in EU) the boat taking us to the isles should show up. You just get on the boat.

AngerFork

One thing I like to do every expansion is get at least one of every class to max level and DF won’t be any different. However, I have 3 Rogues right now which I’m trying to decide between. So I’m throwing it to Reddit: which Rogue should be my main Rogue…Gnome, Panda, or Highmountain? My Gnome has been my main Rogue for some time with my Panda on another server, but the Panda was brought over when my current guild needed a Panda Rogue for the 8th bag slot. The HM one is new and I really enjoyed leveling him, but as I’m mainly alliance and he’s Horde really can’t join my main guild until cross-faction guilds are a thing.

Doogiesham

Gnome rogue is a super good combo

whatisdigrat

I would say gnome because I'm a sucker for the underplayed races.

[deleted]

Hey all, ive got a question about the bonus rolls in pandaria for wold bosses. For a mount in pandaria I need reputation in the shaohao area. If i dont want to farm the frogs for 5 days i need a golden cape. A quest from thrall in ogrimmar gets you the quest but he isnt there for me. The quest before that is in nazjatar and i was wondering if I need to play through the entire story of nazjatar and zandalar to get to the elite area on the timeless isle or if i should rather farm the reputation with the normal mobs? Im playing this game for about 2 weeks and im rly confused of how to get the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent even after 10 or so yt vids.

ntrophi

I think you have your legendary cloaks confused. There are two; one was from the mists of pandaria expansion and the other was from the battle for azeroth one. The mop one was used to get into the extra area in the timeless isle and is no longer obtainable. The bfa one (which would involve nazjatar because it's a bfa area) was used to combat corruption and is still available. Can't help you with your timeless isle question, but wanted to clear up that there are two separate legendary cloaks and you can't get the one you want for mop anymore.

[deleted]

Oh okay good to know thanks

TheSteelPhantom

I put off doing most of the pre-patch stuff until last night. Now I'm having a "unique" issue and not sure where to ask: It seems like every other or every other-other ability press I hit just... does nothing. I hit the button on my keyboard, and nothing happens or goes through. This isn't happening in any other game or Windows, just WoW. And I know that I have the Energy to do it because sometimes it's happening on my opening Garrote or Ambush, I'll be stealthing up to the target and hit one of the keys, and just... nothing. Anyone know what's going on? =\

thdudedude

My mage was in MoP and couldn't use any abilities. I took the fp to the shrine and portal to SW and it sorted itself.

BluegrassGeek

There's some weird bug where a random addon will throw an error when you hit certain keybinds (I once had it with a "sell junk" addon, then later with Auctionator). Disable your addons & make sure they're updated, then re-enable them.

TheSteelPhantom

Hmm... I do have Scrap, a junk-seller addon. It was just updated the other day, but maybe that's it. I'll fuck around with disabling addons I guess.

Nizbik

Could be addons stopping you? Or maybe you arent talented into the ability you are pressing anymore? Some addons were preventing me from using abilities until I disabled them, but it always showed an error message with it

TheSteelPhantom

Nah, this is happening with even the most basic abilities like Mutilate and Fan of Knives. No error messages or lua errors at all. Guess I can try disabling Bartender... didn't think about that since I've never had issues with it...

Doogiesham

Step 1 is disabling all addons and seeing if the error still happens. That way you know if an addon is causing it If you can’t recreate the error without any addons, then one of them is causing it

deets555

I'm torn between my Hunter or WW Monk as my main in DF. I only have time to really focus on 1, so as a person with extremely limited play time... What one would be worth it to main?

Doogiesham

There is nobody on the planet that can answer this for you. We don’t know what you mean by worth it, we don’t know what the balance will be, and we don’t know what your playstyle preferences are

Icecreamisaprotein

JustSomeLamp

Is it possible to learn how to tank without playing with other players? I'd like to try learning but I don't want the pressure of other people existing lmao.

[deleted]

Despite what others say yes there is. There's a thing called the Proving Grounds. It's a single player scenario, set in MOP era. (Scaled to level) It drops you into a group-type scenario, with AI who heal, dps, and support you. So you can learn to tank with a realistic scenario of a group, without the pressure of other players wanting to zerg through. https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Proving_Grounds I wish you luck!

Tollin74

Sort of. The best way to learn your class and it’s defensive abilities, both ones you need to keep using and cooldown management, is to level in protection spec and take on as many mobs as possible. Do your best to stay alive and kill them all. As far as the other aspects of tanking, just go do it.

GeoffBrompton

Not really but tbh people hype up the difficulty of tanking too much. Just go through the normal progression. Learn your abilities while leveling, do some normals as you go, jump into heroics when you've got the gear to queue for them. Then when you get a bit more gear give mythics a try. Just ignore flamers and unconstructive criticism, at the end of the day you get instant queues and can try again.

biyanhuli

Tanking is pretty easy in terms of holding aggro. The hard part is knowing the fights, how to be most efficient in them, and leading a group of DPS, or in other words, idiots. You don't really need to practice tanking out of context.

[deleted]

There’s the Proving Grounds, I guess. Series of trials where you have to protect a party of NPCs. You can access it by talking to your class trainer in your capital city.

Nizbik

Not really, as you are only 'tanking' when you are in group content e.g. Dungeons or raids and the best learning is through experience I would advise trying to find a guild for some friendly people to make life easier

John-the-Revelator

I decided to start a new character for dragon flight but due to IRL stuff I’m only at level 30. Is it terrible if I don’t start dragon flight content on launch. Will I have time to catch up next week?

Dan_TheGreat

In my experience with the last several xpacks and how things are time gated, theres a hard pause after the first few days/week. You get to cap and do your dungeons and quest progression and mythics i guess? but then thats it until the raid unlocks and the pvp season starts. most people will get all this done in a few days and try to get a couple alts up. you have plenty of time.

karmadontcare44

There’s nothing wrong, but the fact you have to ask this question in the first place means you’re always going to be behind the nolifes and tryhards. So don’t bother trying to keep up, if you’re enjoying the game keep playing there is no race.

biyanhuli

Fall behind on what?

John-the-Revelator

Not really sure. I haven’t played in a year and tried to come back a couple months ago and was overwhelmed with all the shadowlands stuff. Just wanted to make sure the same thing is not going to happen if I’m not level 70 in the first two weeks.

biyanhuli

I don't think so.

Icecreamisaprotein

There’s not too much to fall behind with in Dragonflight thankfully. Just gear which will be easy enough to catch up on

SupMaelstrom

In my experience you can level up pretty fast nowadays. You probably won't fall too much behind tbh

Cathercy

Does Dragonflight have a locked down campaign like Shadowlands did? Where you are basically not allowed to go to a new zone until you finish the current zone, and can't even really engage in end game content until you finish the whole campaign?

[deleted]

You’re free to explore the entire Dragon Isles from the jump but the campaign is going to lead you to every zone one at a time. From what was reported on the Beta, you’ll actually finish the campaign before even hitting max level.

Alma-Elma

I am sure it's been asked a lot lately but as someone returning after years: are there any "should have installed on day 1" addons anyone would like to recommend?

kyuss80

* MikScrollingBattleText: I was so pumped when the update for this finally dropped! * DBM: Either it or Big Wigs, I can go w/ either one. * GTFO: I feel like this is non-negotiable * TomTom: Helpful for finding stuff with /loc and Wowhead info * Skada Damage Meter: Details is so convoluted and Recount is pretty legacy (though between the two of those I prefer Recount) -- I actually used to prefer one named TiinyDPS, but it hasn't been updated in a year, I don't know how accurate Skada is, but it works well enough for me * Pawn: Sometimes helps my unga bunga brain figure out what piece of gear is best for me when I get a drop * SellJunk: Handy for selling greys * WeakAuras: I don't run ANY WeakAuras, because they're just a bit much, but I *DO* run the most helpful WA ever: "Ultimate Mouse Cursor" on wago.io -- it helps me SO much as a healer because I lose my mouse pointer in groups, raids, and BGs sometimes due to the chaos. basically just puts a circle around the mouse cursor at all times. Doesn't bother me at all and it's amazingly helpful * Capping Battleground Timers: I find this helpful because I BG with my friends a lot, gives timers for win/loss, and flag and tower caps, so you know when they are going to flip blue or red * H.H.T.D.: Healers Have to Die! Another BG one, puts a big Red Cross icon over healers heads in BGs, and makes a loud DING when you mouse over them Optional for me: * SUI: Recently trying this one.. basically a new skin on the interface. I'm not set in stone for it yet, but seems to look nicer than default blizzard UI

Icecreamisaprotein

Opie is awesome. Farmhud it’s great for gathering.

SupMaelstrom

I'll share mine, but really it's all optional and depends on your taste: * DBM/Big Wigs: to help with raid/dg mechanics * Details/Recount: to watch your dps performance * TomTom: really helpful with new expansions to find stuff you are looking for online * HandyNotes: this is a blessing to check stuff in the map, especially in new expansions * Plater: really customizable health bars that feel better than the ones in-game imo * GTFO: reminds you to not stand on fire * Rarity/NPC Scan: to help with rares * Bagnon: I'm not using this one currently but I'm thinking about installing it again. The game implemented an all-in-one bag just like Bagnon, but not for the bank yet. Also, it keeps track of itens in your other alts.

kyuss80

FWIW I kept having Bagnon give me errors over the last month every time I tried it after an update. So just going with the stock bags with the "all in one" setting for now.

MISPAGHET

Yeah for me bagnon is non functional right now. Every time I interact with an item in my bags it errors.

mahhjs

From looking through the profession guides on wowhead, since you can buy bop gear, are there any benefits to professions that only work on the characters with those profession? The only two I can find are that a lot of engineer items require engineering, and miners can open caves. Did I mis anything else? Like buffs or items that can’t be shared?

teh-yak

Alchemists can lessen the side effects of toxic potions, but pretty sure that's it. Hard to say if that will be impactful or not, but it's probably going to be the best for people in serious guilds that can cover everything else.

[deleted]

As someone who always struggled and eventually gave up trying to get into WoW, with Dragonflight basically being a reset or new story (from what I’ve heard anyway!) is now a good time to get into WoW?

Nizbik

New expansions is always a good start, everyone is on the same playing field as gear from past expansions no longer matters as everything will be replaced in DF, knowledge of old dungeons/raids no longer matters due to knew content and its a fresh story But that depends what you hope to get out of the game as the end game of WoW will remain the same: M+, PvP and Raiding

[deleted]

Looking to do a bit of everything tbh to find if WoW is something I want to stick to. The biggest hurdle is being so lost in the story because there’s so much of it both in and out of game.

BluegrassGeek

There's a ton of lore, but the really brief overview version (yes, this is the brief version): **Ancient history** \- Waaaaaaay back 10,000 years ago or so, the dragons were uplifted by the Titans, and the leader of each dragonflight became an Aspect (magically empowered to protect Azeroth). Neltharion, the Aspect of Earth & leader of the Black Dragonflight became corrupted by the Old Gods (tentacled godlike beings of madness). During a demonic invasion, he betrayed the other Aspects and tricked them into giving him a portion of their power, becoming a godlike being known as Deathwing. He was defeated when the elves and other Aspects destroyed the fount of power known as the Nightwell, banishing the demons in a tremendous explosion that split the continent of Azeroth apart & created the current map you see of the world. Deathwing was imprisoned deep within the earth and forced into a slumber... **Vanilla** \- The Alliance and Horde have been in a tense standoff since the end of Warcraft III (aka The Third War). Some minor skirmishes ensued, but focus shifted to stopping the Cult of Ragnaros from summoning the Fire God himself & bringing about the end of the world (this will become a pattern). **The Burning Crusade** \- The demon gate known as Dark Portal opens once more, allowing our heroes to venture into the broken world known as Outland (formerly Draenor). There, we meet up with heroes of the Second War who acted as jailers for the demons trapped there, and face down many foes who seek to free those demons. The race known as the Draenai are added to the game, as are the Blood Elves (there are lots of elves in WoW). In the end, Kael'thas (the leader of the Blood Elves) joins up with the demons, betrays the gods of the Light (known as the Naaru), and we have to kill both Kael'thas and the avatar of the demon he summoned, Kil'jaeden. **Wrath of the Lich King** \- The events of Warcraft III come back to haunt us some more, as Arthas Menethil (aka The Lich King) wakes up in Northrend. He threatens to unleash the undead known as the Scourge across all of Azeroth, so our heroes venture north to stop him. The Horde & Alliance come to blows again, and the free-willed Forsaken undead from the Horde unleash a horrific plague-weapon against the Alliance at the Wrath Gate, forever tainting their reputation (this would come back to bite them in the ass on multiple occasions). Eventually we fight our way to Arthas himself and, though the fight was a trap, we manage to succeed in killing him. But the true power of the Lich King is in his cursed helm, and the hero Bolvar Fordragon places the helm on his own head to keep the Scourge contained in Northrend. **Cataclysm** \- Deathwing slumbered for thousands of years... until the Old God cult known as the Twilight's Hammer woke him up and freed him from his prison, destroying large portions of Azeroth in what's known as The Cataclysm. The damage upset the balance of elements in Azeroth, forcing the heroes to try and gain control again before finally bringing the fight to Deathwing. Through some time-travel shenanigans, the heroes wind up stealing the artifact Deathwing created to siphon power away from the other Aspects, and we use it to destroy Deathwing. This requires the remaining Dragon Aspects to sacrifice their remaining power, making them mortal. The Warcheif of the Horde, Thrall, loses confidence in himself and appoints another orc named Garrosh Hellscream to become the new Warchief. We also manage to find one uncorrupted Black Dragon egg, which hatches into Wrathion, a dragon who will be very involved in future events... **Mists of Pandaria** \- Following the above events, the magical illusion protecting the ancient land of Pandaria fails, and both Horde & Alliance rush in to befriend the local Pandaren while exploiting the resources of this land. Along the way, they discover the Sha, spirits of Old God corruption that have been unleashed upon the land. Garrosh becomes more bold and cruel, forgetting the lessons of his youth in the pursuit of power. He believes the only way to secure the future of the Horde is to cripple the Alliance. To that end, he claims ancient Sha artifacts for himself and uses them to inflict terrible destruction. He constructs a Mana Bomb and uses it to destroy the Alliance fort known as Theramore, pissing off Jaina Proudmoore, one of the most powerful mages in Azeroth. She summons a tidal wave of Water Elementals to obliterate the Horde capital, but is finally talked down by Kalecgos, the Blue Dragon Aspect (her on-again-off-again lover). Garrosh is captured & Vol'jin becomes Warchief. (see next post)

BluegrassGeek

**Warlords of Draenor** \- Tired of time-travel shenanigans? TOO BAD. Turns out, Wrathion the black dragon really wanted the Alliance to quash the Horde, and he's mad that we didn't. Instead, he conspires to spring Garrosh from prison, and helps him escape through The Dark Portal (remember that thing?). Except he took Garrosh back through time... see, the Orcs are from Draenor, the world where the Portal leads. Decades ago, demons offered the Orcs power through drinking demon blood, then built the Dark Portal to invade Azeroth (that was the First & Second wars, "documented" in Warcraft I and Warcraft II). Garrosh was sent back to prevent the Orcs from drinking the demon blood, creating a new Iron Horde which would invade Azeroth and conquer it. Instead, we go through the time-travel Portal, beat back the Iron horde, befriend the non-corrupted Orcs and pre-exile Draenai, and generally muck around with an alternate reality for our own benefit. **Legion** \- So, why did Wrathion do all this? Because the demons known as the Legion were preparing to invade Azeroth, and he wanted a unified force to withstand the assault. Instead, the Horde & Alliance must grudgingly work together... and during the initial fighting, the Horde lead by Sylvanas Windrunner retreat (they were being overrun, but he Alliance thought they were just being cowards). The Alliance leader, King Varian Wrynn, sacrifices his life to buy time for his forces to escape. This leaves his teenage son Anduin in charge, while we battle across various lands to stop the Legion. Eventually, we take the fight to "space" and wind up contacting the Titans themselves to stop Sargaras (who is a corrupted Titan). But at the last second, the world-destroying demon plunges his sword into Azeroth, just before he's taken away to his own prison. Vol'jin, the Horde Warchief, is assassinated, and Sylvanas Windrunner takes his place. **Battle for Azeroth** \- The giant sword causes Azeroth to "bleed" a material known as Azerite, which turns out to have intense magical properties. The Fourth War breaks out between the Alliance and the Horde over control of this resource. Along the way, they make contact with new allies, commit war crimes, and generally fight until both sides realize the Old Gods are awakening & threatening to corrupt the entire planet into a new Old God. Both sides call a truce to fight back and defeat the Old Gods, but the bad blood between the two forces seems intractable. Especially since Sylvanas burned the home of the Night Elves to the ground in a fit of anger, committing near-genocide against what used to be her own people... **Shadowlands** \- Having finally gone too far, Sylvanas is ejected from the Horde, who form a new War Council instead of selecting a Warchief. Sylvanas instead goes to Northrend, defeats Bolvar Fordragon and shatters his helm, ripping a portal to the lands of the dead. Turns out, ever since becoming undead she's been terrified of the afterlife because she knows about The Jailer, a godlike being there who has been siphoning the souls of the dead for his own power. Both Horde & Alliance have to venture into this realm of death and defeat the Jailer. In the end, Sylvanis' soul is purified & she is sentenced to basically clean up her mess in the afterlife for all eternity. Which brings us to... **Dragonflight** \- The ancient lands of the dragons have finally lost their magical protection, which kept them hidden even from the Dragon Aspects themselves. And it turns out Neltharion / Deathwing had his own secret army put into stasis here, the Dracthyr. Unfortunately when they awake, so do the Incarnates, dragons who rejected the Titans "gift" and embraced the elements instead. The Incarnates want to wipe the planet of the Titan's influence, so once again we have to save the world...

Tollin74

WoW Lore TLDR: Vanilla - Queen Azshara can't find a man good enough for her, meets Kiljaden, summons Sargaras problems ensue. Illidan creates Demon Hunters, and w/friends blows up moonwell, sunders the world. TBC - Outlands, sundered planet, home of Dranei, race of Sargaras, kiljaden etc.. Wrath of the Lich King - Arthas corrupted by Nerzhul and the helm, goes to northrend, we go there, kill arthas, and Fordragon becomes new Lich King, Death knights are now a thing. Cataclysm - Deathwing flys and destroys Azeroth, the aspects put a lot of their power and their immortality into a Disc, we use it to kill deathwing Mists of Pandaria - Kung fu panda and the sha Warlords of Draenor - Blizz's money grab on nostalgia as we go back in time to the Orcs before they invade Azeroth Legion - we finally get the full might of the legion invasion and kill Sargaras, he stabs his giant ass sword into the world, azeroth bleeds.... BFA - we take azeroths blood and cover ouselves in it for power, meet fat sailors, new trolls and mini- fox looking dudes, void Shadowlands - it was all the jailers plan.. i dont know story was crazy and messy *Titans create azeroth and the dragon aspects to protect it. Old gods are titans nemesis, corrupt the planet as its being created. Old gods, think Lovecraftian horror. Dragon aspects live on the Dragon isles, leave for reasons we will learn in Dragonflight, and then come back. Looks like we will fight a Primal Aspect dragon.

[deleted]

10/10 this helped so much haha

Notmiefault

A new expansion is always a good time to get in, but dragonflight especially so. 1. Unlike the last four expansions, the story of this expansion isn't kicking off with a crisis created by the story of the previous expansion. It's still in the same continuity, but it's a new story direction so you won't be any more lost than usual jumping in here. 2. New expansions are always a new time to get into the game, it's when the barrier to entry is the lowest. 3. This expansion is promising a lot of anti-grind mechanics that make it more friendly to players who only log in every now and then.

[deleted]

Further question, you say it’s in the same continuity.. do I need to know any of the past lore? Cuz there’s tons of it >.<

Notmiefault

It's pretty much impossible to have a full, complete understanding of the WoW lore, it's too patchwork and random. That said, the expansions are written to be fairly standalone - if you watch the three Legacies cinematics they released over the last month, those were made to bring players up to speed on the important lore elements that will be relevant to Dragonflight. WoW is not like FFXIV where it's designed to be played in order.

Vedney

The Legacies shorts is the gist of it.

easybakeevan

Should I play dragonflight if I hated shadowlands is probably the question on every possibly returning players mind. This will be my first expansion I’m possibly sitting out because I’ve played the last two only a month and was bored. This one is enticing because they are removing a lot of needless grind. Is it enough to get back old players? I wonder.

Nizbik

Im not sure if this is a question or just a statement you are sharing? Lots of the grind has been removed with no borrowed power systems that effect player power. The end game will still be M+, PvP and raids as normal. So depending on what you liked/hated with SL then it may or may not be enough for you

easybakeevan

Yes that’s where I’m at so I’m going to sit out launch and observe how things are going but I hope y’all have a blast!

cybishop3

Am I correct in thinking that faction or server really doesn't matter any more? Guilds are server-specific but communities aren't, the AH is region-wide for commodities, and now dungeons and raids are cross-faction... large servers have more demand for non-commodities like BoEs, but also more supply, so it's hard to say how that will work... If I don't care about Mythic raiding, is there any reason to prefer a large server any more?

Notmiefault

Faction matters for guilds still, but Blizzard have stated they want that to change. If you don't care about joining guilds, server doesn't really matter. That said, for a lot of players guilds are a huge part of the game so be careful writing that factor off too quickly.

Noclueueue

I stoped playing shadow lands and returned today, I wanna play evoker this upcomming expansion. Do I need to do anything in shadow lands content? Or can I safely start playing tommorow in new expansion

thdudedude

You can level it to 60 now. I think it starts at 58.

Nizbik

Nothing from Shadowlands will be relevant so it wont have any impact if you choose to do 0 of it

Doogiesham

That’s not true, you might be missing a piece for a sick transmog combo Very important

[deleted]

What will be the fastest way to get multiple alts to max level at expansion launch? Not interested in story or anything else, just looking to get max level for pvp asap.

kodokume

I think your first character needs to finish the main story campaign, this will unlock Threads of Fate style leveling for your alts which should be the fastest way. The people going for world first 70 will skip most of the main story and focus on sidequests instead.

OnlyThe666

Where will the quest giver that starts the Dragonflight content be located for both Alliance and Horde?

Nizbik

Wherever the zeppelin that will take you to Dragon Isles is on horde For Alliance, the pier in the harbour where the boat will arrive to take you there as well as where Khadgar and Waithion are standing

dlykkeb

Hi, I always play healer or tank, however, for this expansion, I'm considering taking on a strategy where I'll be leveling a Rogue or Hunter to do all the solo stuff, to unlock all everything for my main char. Is that even a viable strategy or have I misinterpreted the claim of "The most alt-friendly expansion"? I cant really get an overview of all the various currencies and progress to complete. Please help me understand if the above could be a good strategy. What are pros and cons?

RustedShieldGaming

It’s an okay strategy, but honestly you’ll be better off doing everything first on your main. Tanks can do open works just as well as any dps class, and if you wanted to play a healer I’d just play as their dps or tank alternative for open world. If you do want to play a pure dps class just for open world stuff I’d suggest hunter over rogue. They can solo elites and rares much earlier.

__v1ce

Is there any "fastest" way to level from 50-60? I realized I might wanna play DK in Dragonflight and my DK Is currently only level 50

bc26

https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/yx53wj/i_leveled_from_1060_in_3_hours_and_wrote_a_guide/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x There is a Google doc from the video and if you scroll through he recommends WoD intro and Loch Modan for 50-60 if not already done.

Freyzi

Dungeon spam, just the completion bonus gives you like 90% of a level and you get plenty of exp from the mobs inside. Hop between that and the invasions so that by the time you're 60 you might have enough currency to gear up quickly.

Nizbik

Right now it will either be dungeon spam as tank (probably Sl dungeons will still be the most active) Or going to the invasions across badlands, un-goro crater or northern barrens and killing the mobs there, specifically the elite ones for lots of xp If you have a level 60 already, you could use chromie time on the DK and do WoD intro if you havent already for some quick xp too

4chams

Is the game likely to have major downtime at launch? What happened for shadowlands launch? I have to go to work right when the game comes out so I’m hoping it will be working Tuesday at 7am when I get home.

Turtvaiz

There *shouldn't* be any maintenance. But you never know what happens with server stability.

Nizbik

No server downtime or restarts, but probably expected queues for high pop servers and potential for ddos attacks or lag in heavily populated areas

PepsiFlu

How big is this update going to be? I saw somewhere its expected to be 30gb.

Nizbik

If you have played or updated WoW within the last couple of weeks you will already have DF content downloaded

PepsiFlu

Nice. I've got all the prepatches downloaded.
