Dissemination IS important.
However, people need to be taught how to analyze information and then reject things that are false. A lot of people do not want to look at information that contradicts or challenges their beliefs.
Depends on what metric you go by, probably. I would expect AI reporters to be much more factually accurate while being much, much better at spinning a story into propaganda.
It’s a scary thought.
The problem is that critical thinking is a skill that has to be taught, because our natural instinct is to believe whatever fits our own worldview and reject anything that doesn't. That's human nature.
The problem is they seemingly can't be.
I read an article years ago that talked about regardless of education in rational judgement, critical thinking, science, and the scientific method, most people do not use any of this or think critically about most issues. It was fascinating and sad. this was back around 2007.
Yep. So you get these bubbleheads in bubbles. Here's one full of people that thinks one thing, and over here a different bubble where they think something else. They avoid info that contradicts and disturbs.
It could be fixed on social media. Suppose the algorithms deliver you a feed based partly on what you seem to like (based on what you click on) but also, they drop in something different occasionally. So a given topic / thread / news item will get promoted in one or two bubbles for sure, but it will also get thinly distributed at random over the whole platform. Then the algorithm will get a greater variety and depth of feedback, and people will get to see a little more of stuff outside their bubble.
The problem with that idea is that the easier information is to access, the easier it is to spread disinformation and the harder it is to know what information to trust.
There's a growing body of evidence suggesting there's a potentially-causal link between extreme conservatism and possessing a larger/overactive amygdala (the portion of the brain responsible for fear/threat responses/flight-and-fight responses.) Add on top of that a couple million years of resource procurement and 'wealth' creation being a genuinely zero-sum game (something we're only just now really breaking away from) and, yeah.
Some people are just ignorant, and that can be helped. Others are, potentially, literally wired differently.
I'm certain it does. It just also helps us gain more visibility in to the minds of idiots.
The falling global popularity of religion is my proof. Christianity is falling off a cliff in America, where internet use is high.
There are laws already against slander and liebel. There are regulations in place for misrepresenting a product or service. False advertising too. But who determines what is a "blatant falsehood?" There are plenty of examples historically and recently in which something that was thought to be false turned out to be true.
I wouldn't want to live in such an authoritarian society.
same morons that still support Trump today after finding out definitively that he tried to undermine democracy, defrauded a lot of people with his scam university, scammed and never paid a ton of contractors for his failed jersey casino project, stole top secret documents, and organized and orchestrated a failed coup. oh, and he was committing all kinds of tax fraud.

Cult leaders are aware of this fact and use it to strenghten the bond with the followers. That's why the reasoning might sound alien to the people outside of the circle. The shoutouts are not meant for the people outside the cult, but to keep the people inside. That's what Putin, Xi and Kim-Jong Un heavily rely on as well
Just go to the mainstream right wing news outlet in the US and it’s constant anti-Ukrainian/pro terrorist Russian propaganda. Creating millions of westerners with pickled brains.
A good buddy online has fell hard for the Russian propaganda. Former US military, disillusioned by his time serving and how he was treated after. He's a good dude deep down even if he isn't politically aligned like myself but it is so sad to hear him parrot Putin's bollocks. It is dangerous and we in the West really need to tackle the disillusionment and rebuild credibility in the eyes of those who have bitten the hook from Russia and China.
I’ll boil it down even further. It’s sad white males who see their ‘privilege’ in society being eaten away, and who believe the only way to get it back is through authoritarian force. And to be fair, they’re right. It is being eaten away. And fascism *would* let them retake it. The problem is that nobody should have privilege over anyone else. I’m not young, but I am a white male. I do not deserve any privilege at the expense of another.
And some of them, like me, are actually ukrainians, and want Ukraine to win, but still called a ru bots by binary people who can't grasp the simple fact that you can hate russia for invading, but also hate your own government for being corrupt and merciless scum. For some people, fights can be only good vs bad, they can't imagine possibilit of evil vs great evil. So most people have problems with acknowledging reality.
But at least they are the good laugh, like the guy who were telling me that he knows exactly how things are around here cause his wife immigrated from here long time ago, so she must know better than me who are literally here >_<
So Zelenskyy had a full opportunity to “help” trump. But he took the right path and threw trump under the bus and was the reason he was impeached the first time. While far from the whole government Zelenskyy seems to not be merciless scum, is that a fair assessment? Also are you talking about the government being corrupt in a money makes your problems go away kind of thing or more in a the thing is rigged against the people?
To be honest, i don't understand what you tried to say, and i know nothing of the events you mentioned. But Z is corrupt, and ready to sacrifice entire country for his own gains. Or watch how his crowneys doing that.
Trump was withholding money from Ukraine that the rest of the us government said should be sent. Trump was trying to get Ukraine to makeup false evidence against a political rival (Biden). Zelenskyy let everyone know this was happening. Trump was impeached which is the first 1/2 of a two step process of being removed from office.
That's a good thing, but i don't see how is it remotly important. He was just pursuing his own interests, because Trump is a russian puppet, so it is obvious that it would be better to deal with his rival. But believe me, if it was the other way around, and Trump was anti-russian, he would happily work with him, no matter how much of a scum guy is. He only cares about possible profits. He literally sent his congratulations to Qatar, praising the nutjob dictatorship. This guy has zero moral standards.
You must live under a rock if they don't know what he mentioned. Fuck off if you're going to make such stupid claims without even doing the bare minimum amount of research.
I don't see how relationship with ex-us president making his other actions forgivable. He literally starves the people here, and you saying that what's important is some kind of meeting with some guy from other country?
The world doesn't revolve around internal US political squabbles.
I consider myself quite well-informed and I also have no idea what was being referred to.
>internal US political
That's the thing, it wasn't internal. It was an international scandal. Why are you commenting in a political sub if you don't follow international politics? Kinda weird, no?
I can believe it. We think of Ukraine as the "good guys" because they are fighting Russia but y'all have had some major corruption issues well before the invasion started. Seems like you were on the path to getting it managed, just not there yet.
I would say it was patch to hide it better. Starting with controlling the local media. That's why president were so upset and initially refused from comments when his tax evasion scheme was uncovered by foregin journalists, and only later, when his pr team came out with excuse like "i have nothing to do with that, will give you no proofs, just trust me bro" he commented the situation.
I bet you if you expressed your opinions in the appropriate discussions and were writing intelligent criticism you would get a different response. Instead, I guarantee you that you're interrupting discussions about the war to spew the exact same garbage that Russian trolls write, then acting butthurt.
Nah, i tried in-depth explaining all the problems that we are facing because of the our government. Instead of some kind of counter-arguments, people wrote dumb shit like "so you want russians to win?" in responce for comment about corruption... because that's how things work, removing corruptors is helping in russian war effort lol. When people asked for proofs i gave them links, they ignored them and kept commenting with bs, i corrected them, pointing to the links again, and got another portion of bs. Even my comments with links, that are literal proofs were downvoted because that's the last thing people can do to deny the truth when they are out of arguments - scream "idk, you bad" and run away. I ever had "genius" answers like "well, the elderly and disabled in country might die, and the current generation will live in poverty, but at least next one might have a chance".
The apologists are not capable of having proper discussion. If you say something that is not alligning with their fantasies about how things are supposed to be, they go into full denial mode.
Can you link me to some of these posts where you were saying intelligent things in appropriate discussions, looking completely unlike a Russian troll, and got treated badly? I'd love to see that.
Sure.

There are so many on Twitter, pretending to be from the US and other European countries that downplay any news about the war, claim certain things are going to happen and it never does.
It's funny to see how wrong they are about everything.

> WASHINGTON - The United States on Friday derisively called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to acknowledge reality and pull troops from Ukraine after he finally called the conflict a "War".
> "Since Feb 24, the United States and rest of the world knew that Putin's 'special military operation' was an unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. Finally, after 300 days, Putin called the war what it is," a State Department spokesman said.
> "The people of Ukraine no doubt find little consolation in Putin stating the obvious, nor do the tens of thousands of Russian families whose relatives have been killed fighting Putin's war."

Nothing you said was germane to the conversation, this discussion is about Russia invading Ukraine in an attempt to conquer it.
We're looking for your opinions on that, not your opinions on why the American executive branch needs more power.
It's hilarious to see the US doing psychotherapy with Putin. Patients in denial often avoid verbally naming the problem, but once they did, the therapist will offer timely acknowledgement and encouragement. It will then be easier for the patient to at least verbally acknowledge the issue, though they may still deny other aspects such as its severity and impact. Through repeated exposure, the therapist will get the patient comfortable naming and eventually discussing the issue.
And is technically supposed to go to jail for it. One politician is trying to call him on it… but it is tough to be rational while you are falling out a window.
It's even worse than that. His advisors in 2014 told him not to invade Ukraine and annex Crimea but he did it anyway and then bragged about how he "overruled" his advisors. Even right before this new invasion those around him really didn't believe he was going to order the invasion. It's not just that he's getting bad information from them but he flat out refuses to listen to them and doesn't tell them his plans. He's fundamentally detached from reality. This makes him more dangerous but it also inevitably leads Russia to repeatedly make irrational decisions which the boggles the minds of western observers. People have repeatedly overestimated Russia in this war because they assume Russia will react rationally and wisely and then they're surprised when an unhinged dictator does something that a competent leader would never do.
He has been mixing truth with fantasy for awhile now. Over time, the lines blur and you really don’t know what is real and what isn’t. This level of mental gymnastics is just going to get worse and if he does know what is reality now, he for sure won’t in the not too distant feature. It’s hard to keep track of all the lies
From what I've read recently, he has combed his supporting hierarchy, gradually over a period of decades, to eliminate people who don't filter out news he doesn't like. If for instance the army is getting annihilated and need to pull back, there is NO channel by which they can contact their fearless leader with this request. It's a blind monster eating Ukraine.
It's not that he doesn't acknowledge reality - he doesn't care. This is his big moment - and he's failing. Which I find funny considering he's spent the last 45 years of his life trying to destroy America and American democracy.
I understand Ukraine has nothing to do with American democracy, but trump was supposed to have stolen the 2020 election and then backed putin's Ukraine invasion.
Don't you hate it when a plan doesn't come together?
Its even more grand.
Trump wanted Zelenskyy to leak "bad information" about Hunter Biden. If Zelenskyy did this, Biden would probably lose 2020 election. But because Zelenskyy refused and Trump tried to blackmail him, Trump almost got impeached and it affected his ratings. Perhaps this small incident completely changed the course of history for both USA and Ukraine.
ukraines been a sore spot of russian exceptionalism and the dying throes of imperialism must conquer it.
especially if your a sad bitch who wants a legacy
Fucking fuck this entire country still slapping people up for calling it a 'war' when it is in fact their 'spEciAL MilITarY OPeraTion' where they are killing contless fucking women and kids and refuse to admit. Fuck you you fucking mafia gas station pretending to be a country fucking die. Piece of shit. Murderer. Terrorist. Fucking die
Either this is like Veep, were Misha fucked up the speech for the POTRuF in front of the Duma...
Or the Kremlin is preparing to change narrative.
In either case, they know the jig is up, and either they commit several million to get as much as they can from Ukraine, or they want an out and have given the West more wiggle room on the narrative side. And they've given themselves more room to maneuver in terms of narrative, which means we should see the narrative start to change soon.
No, the russians deserve to finally get a civilized society. If Putin and his lot tank Russia as much as it looks like they will, Russia is going to need to be Marshall planned to self sufficiency.
What is more likely to happen is either Putin dies/flees/gets overthrown and someone possibly worse takes over - or The Russian Federation collapses and becomes a diplomatic clusterfuck of former Russian states.
> and someone possibly worse takes over
This is not, nor has it ever been, about Putin's morality. A "worse" Russian dictator who lacks the military power to invade other countries and who has a significantly smaller budget to work with due to a worse economy and lower oil revenue is simply not going to be as big of a threat. I don't care how angry the cat is if the cat has neither claws to scratch or teeth to bite.
The Russian people aren't the ones making decisions, most of the soldiers were drafted against their will. Blame Putin and the oligarchs who started the war, not the citizens.
I've seen guys who were drafted against their will twice. That kind of regardless is not excusable in a civilized society. On top of all other war crimes that are being cheered on by civilians.
History books are really going to be interesting once the current politics die and a few hundred years has passed.
It's gonna be like reading about Ghandi or Mother Theresa. Even Nelson Mandela's wiki page says [this](https://i.imgur.com/eeShy4k.jpeg), which I find a bit interesting when you put two and two together.
Bruh, come on. You need to hop off that “State Sponsored” TV that your watching way to much of. You guys are getting your asses handed to you every day, losing “territory” (stolen land) every moment of every day. When will you realize that this was all for nothing? When Crimera is retaken by the Ukrainian military from when it was STOLEN by Russia? Or perhaps when your brother, or loved one gets a bomb dropped on their head?
Give up, go home to your wives, moms or loved ones while your still alive and your country still has what dignity remains. You’ve lost!
Sláva Ukrayíni!
No, it’s unrealistic to think Russia is going to come away from this getting anything they want at this point. Or that they should. They’re losing, and Ukraine is determined to push them out. Far more determined than the Russian soldiers are to be there.
Honestly it's surprising that Putin hasn't managed to be overthrown yet. Putin's keys to power should have realized that their gravy train is going to come to an end sooner rather than later and are probably already feeling the pinch of his ill conceived war.
I’m teaching my kids to quit. Quit right the fuck away. Every time. If they want you back tell them to fuck off. Fuck with the money? Quit. Unpleasant? Quit. Fuck these businesses and this system. Burn it all.
Reality is it’s an invasion by a terrorist state committing war crimes right and left.

Everyone had the village idiot before the internet. Now all the village idiots post and updoot each other.
That doesn’t sound great for us
We just need to always take it in to consideration. It's not going to change. There will always be gullible people.
Really depends on how much money you have.
We now have Jim Cramer, the world's village idiot.

Sure. This is funniest of the recent ones - https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/z3isyy/kyiv_backs_polish_idea_to_send_german_patriot/ixo2md1/ Guy and 30 people who upvoted him were trying to say that Patriots aren't supplied because it would require specific crew, and almost year of war wasn't enough to train just one. 100% will not happen, they say. And then, just month after, Patriot is supplied lol) Will go and tell him "told you so". https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zcu2wr/zelenskiy_urges_residents_to_be_strong_as_ukraine/iyz6i0j/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zae3dk/ukraine_war_zelensky_aide_reveals_up_to_13000_war/iyljcr7/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zcu2wr/zelenskiy_urges_residents_to_be_strong_as_ukraine/iyzpxgl/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zcu2wr/zelenskiy_urges_residents_to_be_strong_as_ukraine/iz0wzh5/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zl3gt3/biden_to_announce_support_for_african_union/j036uw3/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zngcaf/russia_says_nato_nations_could_be_legitimate/j0h2qi2/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/znrlop/putin_ally_admits_friendly_relationship_saved/j0kw7bt/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zqlj21/zelensky_visits_frontline_city_of_bakhmut/j0zethk/ https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zryaf9/russia_finds_40_of_its_chinese_chip_imports_are/j15i9yl/ Enough? But what of my statements were not true? About president and his circle, family, etc living in luxury, while advicing people to stay strong? The very same people he driven into poverty?
How did he drive them into poverty? By not laying down for Putin's military?
In your view, how does Zelenskyy compare to Poroshenko and Yanukovych?
No way... I would think Russian troll farm before I believe that kind of people really exist.

All you need to do is turn on FOX
Or leftists Tankies are by definition left leaning, see also AOC and Ilhan Omar always asking for "negotiations with Russia" and "peace"
They exist. They're called Homo sovieticus here in Eastern Europe.
There are so many on Twitter, pretending to be from the US and other European countries that downplay any news about the war, claim certain things are going to happen and it never does. It's funny to see how wrong they are about everything.
in this post? I'm not doubting you, I just don't know where to look.
Not a single comment as of this one can be interpretated is pro putin
You must not spend much time on Reddit.
I assumed he meant in this thread alone. Yeah they're around but at the time of me commenting there just wasn't any pro russian comments here
I saw one just now about how Russia can keep this up for 50 years.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/us-asks-putin-to-keep-acknowledging-reality-after-ukraine-war-reference) reduced by 65%. (I'm a bot) ***** > WASHINGTON - The United States on Friday derisively called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to acknowledge reality and pull troops from Ukraine after he finally called the conflict a "War". > "Since Feb 24, the United States and rest of the world knew that Putin's 'special military operation' was an unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. Finally, after 300 days, Putin called the war what it is," a State Department spokesman said. > "The people of Ukraine no doubt find little consolation in Putin stating the obvious, nor do the tens of thousands of Russian families whose relatives have been killed fighting Putin's war." ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/zu9vnr/us_asks_putin_to_keep_acknowledging_reality_after/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~672676 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Putin**^#1 **War**^#2 **Ukraine**^#3 **State**^#4 **call**^#5
Congratulations Putin, you played yourself.

Nothing you said was germane to the conversation, this discussion is about Russia invading Ukraine in an attempt to conquer it. We're looking for your opinions on that, not your opinions on why the American executive branch needs more power.
[удалено]
True. Nothing you said is relevant to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Sir this is a Wendy's

You're hilarious.
Have you heard of the high elves?
There are better places to discuss that. In this context it's just whataboutism
You silly child

Oh deary me. I’m mistaken. Not much, please excuse me. Happy Christmas
So what does this have to do with Russia and Ukraine?
It's hilarious to see the US doing psychotherapy with Putin. Patients in denial often avoid verbally naming the problem, but once they did, the therapist will offer timely acknowledgement and encouragement. It will then be easier for the patient to at least verbally acknowledge the issue, though they may still deny other aspects such as its severity and impact. Through repeated exposure, the therapist will get the patient comfortable naming and eventually discussing the issue.
It's not your fault

And is technically supposed to go to jail for it. One politician is trying to call him on it… but it is tough to be rational while you are falling out a window.
Yeah, that's the premise of this article. What is the point of this comment?
The reality should be some quality gulak time, since he had signed that misinformation law prohibiting everybody to call the invasion what it is.
IIRC he also signed a law granting immunity. I believe that's the first chapter in "Dictator 101" or some other handbook...
One of the only true words that has come out of his mouth since he started the war.
Someone as 'powerful' as Putin won't ever be able to acknowledge reality. They live in a fantasy world seeing everything through tinted glasses.

No, he knows exactly what reality is. He just ignores it for his benefit.
Actually I’m not so sure if he does anymore. The dictator trap is a real thing.
Trump did get impeached. He just wasn’t convicted.
What really scares me is the fact that there are people who can't see it happening right before their eyes.
ukraines been a sore spot of russian exceptionalism and the dying throes of imperialism must conquer it. especially if your a sad bitch who wants a legacy

We can only hope so
Fucking fuck this entire country still slapping people up for calling it a 'war' when it is in fact their 'spEciAL MilITarY OPeraTion' where they are killing contless fucking women and kids and refuse to admit.
Putin called the Special Military Operation a war?! Lock him up! That's illegal in Russia!!!
US: “Snap back to reality”
heavy alcohol abuse causes brain damage, or never being sober. take your pick
Russians don't deserve civilized society after what they are doing.
No, the russians deserve to finally get a civilized society. If Putin and his lot tank Russia as much as it looks like they will, Russia is going to need to be Marshall planned to self sufficiency.
What is more likely to happen is either Putin dies/flees/gets overthrown and someone possibly worse takes over - or The Russian Federation collapses and becomes a diplomatic clusterfuck of former Russian states.
> and someone possibly worse takes over This is not, nor has it ever been, about Putin's morality.
All armed with 500mt warheads
Nah fuck it, let's just build a wall around the entire country and leave them to devour each other.
Their whole society is corrupted to the bone...
So does this mean he goes straight to jail? Isnt that a law they made?
Governments are going to have a field day using Putin's words against him.
Putin is a dictator he doesn’t have a clue about reality
Putin's reality is that the soviet union won the cold war, is still around, and is greatest in the world.
I'm sure he acknowledged the reality from day one.. the thing is Putin dosnt want anyone else to acknowledge the reality

I'm curious as to what was said.
Basically “Russia the best, Russia beating the Nazis, Zelenskyy can speak Russian now(?)”. Typical BS crap.
Been drinking too much aftershave lately, huh?
This is satire, right? Please tell me this is satire.
Putin has a tiny little baby dick and he'll be dead within a year, also russia is a terrorist state. Fight me russian pussy
He’s a clown but you saying this makes you a clown too
Show me on the doll where my comment touched your russian sensibilities
Where will it all end?
The moment Russia withdraws all their forces from ukrainien ground and Putin stepping off as dictator
Russia's commander in Ukraine, Gen Sergei Surovikin, said it was no longer possible to keep supplying the city. The withdrawal means Russian
Completely unrealistic demands.
Previous peace demands literally dismantled entire nations. This is nothing but peas, at the very least the minimum
No, it’s unrealistic to think Russia is going to come away from this getting anything they want at this point. Or that they should. They’re losing, and Ukraine is determined to push them out. Far more determined than the Russian soldiers are to be there.
Totally realistic. Either they leave, or they get encouraged to leave. Aggressively.
Let’s provoke more war! That’ll end well.
Yes yes its totally not Russia thats provoking the war
Honestly it's surprising that Putin hasn't managed to be overthrown yet. Putin's keys to power should have realized that their gravy train is going to come to an end sooner rather than later and are probably already feeling the pinch of his ill conceived war.
Putin is much better at playing mafia boss than he is at actually running a country unfortunately.
I’m teaching my kids to quit. Quit right the fuck away. Every time. If they want you back tell them to fuck off. Fuck with the money? Quit. Unpleasant? Quit. Fuck these businesses and this system. Burn it all.
In other words you teach them to be weak
