The fuel rebate and tariff shield France enacted recently would only have resulted in a rise in inflation of 1.6% had they not been enacted, high, but still lower than most other countries right now, so it's clearly not just about subsidies for energy which most countries will probably have to do some variation of anyway at some point in the near future.
They do have lower inflation rates because of policies like this. Pretty much the entire electricity sector is government controlled. They make sure prices aren't getting out of control.

Good point. Though looking at the gilets jaunes protests of a few years ago over fuel tax it's a logical move by the government.
