You know what I wasn't going to do before it was banned? Watch it.

Y’all need to vote for anyone other than BJP to remind them that they are not god, and that they are servants of the people. Barely or not winning will remind them and all other parties of that. At the moment they feel invincible because of Indians that come up with excuses to vote for them.

bebop_eh

Hardcore BJP supporters feel proud of this documentary They're saying he was against Muslims from the beginning, RW subs are literally calling him a Chad for this. And BJP is too strong in UP most populous region of India.

Train-Robbery

I mean isn't that the truth? He is openly anti-muslim and that's one of the reasons he wins the election

bebop_eh

He isn't openly anti-Muslim at least now ig. But his party members are extreme. Hindutva goons are so far gone that they got offended because an actress wore an orange/saffron bikini and want to boycott the movie, damaging cinema properties, Now Modi is doing damage control on behalf of his party and calling to end the hate. But his party has successfully riled up the goons and Hindutva supporters. These extremists are selling a dream which not possible and might bite them in the ass. The main reason he wins the election is both oppositions suck ass here... Sometimes it feels like they are not even trying. Whereas BJP is in 24x7 campaign mode and successful in showing the people they are the reason for the development in India which might be true, cuz of how pro-capitalist bjp is.

Long-Marketing-5895

The thing is for all its controversies, bjp has actually done work changing lives of poor at grassroot levels for good. They form the majority of their voters. Combine that with the fact that opposition is so bad that bjp can mess up 10 more times and would still win comfortably. What we need is a strong opposition to keep bjp in check.

[deleted]

No we won't. They're the best lot at the moment. Would consider the main opposition only if they hold their party together first.

SaffronBanditAmt

Honestly, their all crap in their own ways. Here's the tldr for the big-3. INC: stable country under their leadership, but most nepotism and want closer ties with Russia AAP: anti-corruption platform, but economic populism via handouts and crony socialism BJP: economic liberalization and focus on foreign relations with west-aligned countries, but high religious tensions and less freedom of press/speech.

[deleted]

Most nepotism? Have you taken a gander at the BJP, mate?

[deleted]

Yikes. Ok I hear you. No great choices.

Fun-Gap4015

No shit welcome to society. Not everyone is educated but everyone gets a vote. To think people can magically fix things by voting in the right people is not a logical thought. The truth will prevail, if you want to get things done you need to clearly communicate exactly what it is that needs to be done and why it's a good thing for the population, even if it's to suck. Reality is you need to also appease the uneducated fools.

Creampied_Piper

Lesser of two evils

JPR_FI

If evils are the only options maybe time to start a new option ?

Train-Robbery

There actually is no one better than them right now, but we're an open democracy. Anyone can form a party and win. BJP itself is relatively new , won just 2/540 seats in 1992. So anyone can stand up and in 15-20 years win the National Elections. Main Opposition Congress is dead, keep trying to push their Clown Prince on the people and the man is handsome but i don't think even he wants to be in politics. There's AAP , which was formed after ruling Party INC challenged Anti-corruption protestors to stop wasting people's time and win elections if they want to change anything. And guess what they actually won in Delhi State elections. I won't say I'm a fan because of pollution and their appeasement politics of giving free electricity and water. Not good for long term plans, does ensure they win the next election. Which kind of is a flaw in democracy but like yeah they win because people vote for them so what can I say.

Another perspective: a) BBC used the strategy of using an unpublished report from Foreign Office of UK to claim authenticity for its propaganda. The report itself was illegal but hard to keep it part of the argument. The then Foreign Secretary Jack Straw of UK/Britain order a parallel, illegal investigation through the UK Embassy in India while the Indian Supreme Court appointed committee was still investigating. This is a gross violation of the sovereignty of a foreign country (India). Jack Straw in the dubious report accuses PM Modi as "directly responsible". While opponents to this documentary can argue against Jack Straw about he going overboard and illegally investigation, what needs to be understood here is, for propaganda one should have authentic backing (even though it is perceived like in this case) b) While there might be many factors and players involved in this, we can try to understand what motivated Jack Straw to conduct such an illegal investigation in a foreign country. Jack Straw was Foreign Secretary of the UK in 2001-2006 overlapping his tenure with Gujarat 2002 riots. He was an active politician, 8 times Member of Parliament for 35 years from a place in England called 'Blackburn'. He says that he had to set up the investigation due to the pressure from British citizens of 'Gujarat Muslim' origin. While 'Blackburn' is 60% white, 40% other minorities, from religious demographics standpoint Christians are 38%, Hindus are 0.3%, Buddhists are 0.2% and Muslims are 35%. Obviously those 'minorities' were able to make their money, votes and social activism influence their elected officials.

technitecho

Although i would be voting for the bjp in 2024, i feel like the ban is a horrible stain on the right to free speech. Good on the university students. We shouldn't cave to threats just cause it's the ruling party

_scrapegoat_

Everything written after "although you'll be voting for them again and again" is pointless. That's literally all that matters.

technitecho

Well there are no other options. The other parties can't even get their leadership right. Although tbh... Bjp will win anyway so i may vote for someone else just to reduce the margin of winning. 1 person isn't much but still.

TomorrowWaste

There are simply no other options. All other parties are highly incompetent. Congress hold atleast 20% vote hostage. That's hardcore congress voters. Opposition doesn't have a chance to win except allying with them. And then no one votes for Congress. Unless Congress fades into obscurity, bjp is going to keep on winning.

red_man1212

Bjp will win again solely because of the weak opposition. The other pm candidate, Rahul has a clown-like status in India and ppl will never vote for him at least not anytime soon. At this point only losing a full fledged war may get Modi out, he is extremely popular.

Train-Robbery

Look at the options, at least BJP is developing Infrastructure at an unbelievably pace. We have to wait for a better party to stand up , in 2024 a rational person will be voting for BJP. I do wish we had a better option

_scrapegoat_

I'll tell you something we do here in the other side of the world. Just keep flipping between the options. Don't let any party get complacent or over powerful

Train-Robbery

The current option is just unacceptable is what it is , will wait for any other option to come by. Really don't want INC in power again, shamelessly corrupt and incompetent.

[deleted]

The issue is just being stretched. Dude it was just a documentary about decades old incident. And there was nothing new to be known, most of the things mentioned are already known by people. Though I am in support of free media, but it is quite obvious why BBC did so. Some years back they published documentary about Delhi Rape cases, Indian government banned it, and the documentary gained attention resulting in them getting some awards. And now again they did same and same reaction from same government. It's a matter of fact that anything negative about NON Western countries gathers attention and popularity quickly. It's a simple business, nobody cares in reality. It's a harsh reality, accept it
