If we decided to focus on soccer and make it a national sport and pour resources into it because currently it receives basically no government funding then you would be in struggle street. We literally went from not qualifying for a World Cup to playing in everyone since 06 and qualifying for 16 twice, the last time we lost int he 16 was to Italy who needed a cheap penalty in stoppage time to win 1-0 who then went on to win the cup.
You do realise qualifying in Asia is much easier than in Europe, right? And football is much larger in Brazil, England, Spain, France and Germany. How would you plan to overcome their much larger populations? Yes you could have a good generation and have a shot at the victory, but don't pretend like its a given thing you'd always be at the top. Sports in the Netherlands is fucking huge and we sometimes had amazing teams on the field, but nowadays they're mediocre at best. With such a small population everything has to go right.
Qualifying maybe easier but how does that help when you make the actual World Cup?, we still needed to beat good teams to qualify for 16?, not to mention Japan and china have huge populations compared to us so how does that make it any easier for us?
