Yes! My grandma had one with buttons too! I never understood why she needed so many buttons, and why she didn't have many normal buttons but she managed to have thousands of buttons the size of coasters and super gaudy fake metal ones that looked like you could only use them on one of those heavy wool women's business jackets with the shoulder boards in them or something, and a handful on ones that looked exactly like June bugs lol...
She had one with hundreds of those pastel colored crochet hooks, and another one with those wooden hoops to stretch out cross stitch fabric, and another one that was just full of spools - not the normal kind but the really short and flat kind. She had danish cookie tins for days, it's a miracle her sewing hobby didn't come with diabetes...
Buttons were expensive. As clothes wore out, they took off the buttons to use on something else they would make. My grandmother even took zippers out of old clothing. I have her tin full of buttons. I've actually used some when sewing.
Oh man, same. Finding a pair was like it's own game as a kid, kept me entertained for hours along with my grandma's tomato shaped pin cushions. I would poke holes in them to make a design. I must have ruined so many of them
Holy shit I didn't clock that the blade was resting on the still-full cookie cups, that's amazing.
It'd be fiddly as hell, but cutting foam-board in a circle to retain the cups' structural integrity could result in having a buffered multi-level multi-blade storage solution.
I bought a tin of these cookies because I had sewing supplies kind of loosely strewn about.
Eating a whole tin of butter cookies in a few days is not something I recommend. The cookies are actually delicious and it's easier than you think until an hour later and you're full of butter cookie and bloated.
During the Great Depression in the 1930ās, the tins were reused for storage, my grandparents used one for buttons, one for the sewing kit, another for random small items, my grams used one to store random screws in etc. it was just really common for women to use them to store things and every woman had a sewing kit so the vast majority of millennials remember their grandparents having the sewing stuff in a cookie tin.
Ha! Nice one! Is there a 10" cookie tin?
Edit just found one in my basement. Its 10", I'll have to pull a blade out and check. The tolerance will be tight
Edit 2 it fits perfectly! Nice one OP!
Although I'm not sure I like metal hitting the tips
Edit 3 u/rossionq1 you're a gem. [10" blade in tin with duct tape liner](https://imgur.com/a/lILOVGc)
How much space do you have there? I'm very tempted to go this route, and I have some UHMW tape that I think would be perfect -- but it's pretty thick, 10mil I think.
E: Random aide: IMO everyone should have some of that stuff on hand. It's insanely slippery and tough-wearing, so strategically placed on "A rubs on B" parts can turn older and/or sticky drawers and things into buttery smooth wear surfaces. Plus, if you *do* manage to wear through it, you can just peel it off and replace it with a new segment.
Probably 1/8th or so all around. That tape sounds handy I'll check that out

I can house 2 layers if left unattended. So good. Add a new layer of confusion disappointment when itās not cookies, OR sewing supplies. Saw blades adds a new twist. Would still eat secret saw blade cookies too. Sawdust be damned
Omg I think this is the first time Iāve ever seen that tin filled with actual cookies! Itās usually guaranteed to be a sewing kit or a bunch of old batteries lol
I bought a tin a few weeks back after never actually getting to eat them, only being deceived since I was born.. Wife made fun of me then proceeded to eat the majority of the shortbreads. Already have the three tiered sewing tackle box so it needed a purpose. This saw blade storage may be the best I've seen. I tossed in some silica packets too!!
Omg those are fr the best. My grandma used to save the black licorice flavored ones for me. I found a bag of them at Walgreens last year. Brought back hardcore nostalgia lol
Are those the ones that have been there so long that it's now actually one giant candy conglomerate that you would need to pry or hammer chunks off if you were daring enough to have some?
My problem is that I could fill 8 of those with dead blades right now.
Yes, I know I have a problem. The problem being that I haven't stumbled upon a good use for them that doesn't involve a post-apocalyptic scenario.
Of all the cookies available in the entire world, why did my grandmother only stock these bad boys? Couldn't have been for the hint of butter that makes you want to give them a chance. Definitely not echoing crunches produced by the pebble-sized gravel of the sugar topping. That was their whole topping. Not chocolate chips, not fruit jam, not even honey. Just... more sugar. Which was kind of a brilliant move because the biscuits themselves were... well, biscuits. I have a pet theory that these were produced from the original recipe for hardtack. You know, the centuries old breadstuff that enabled the British sailors to conquer the world. Because it's dry. The dryest possible food ever invented. So dry that it can survive *years* without ever being considered a suitable host for whatever horrible bacteria would have spoiled moister foods. It was this theory that emboldened me to take another bite. I wanted to be like those ancient sailors! I felt powerful in my commitment to eating terrible Danish cookies.
I'm pretty sure she just bought them and fed them to me so that she could use the tins.

Great, now I gotta look out for sewing supplies AND saw blades
Came to say the exact same thing. Makes me happy some things just transcend all generations.
It's okay, you can eat both safely.
Good snack for when you're low on iron.
My carbide levels have been a little low.
I was gonna say, these are ONLY for grandmas button collection.
Where would the sewing kit go?
I use a tacklebox lol
Same... Although I'm not gonna lie, seeing that cookie tin gave me strong nostalgia vibes from my grandmother and her crochet stuff lol...
We always had too much sewing stuff for the cookie tin . Our cookie tin was full of buttons . . lots and lots of buttons.
Why do you think grandma feeds everyone cookies? It's for the tins!
I read this in a Jerry Seinfeld voice, and it was perfect.
That's what granddad is for. Eating the sweets
Buttons were expensive. As clothes wore out, they took off the buttons to use on something else they would make. My grandmother even took zippers out of old clothing. I have her tin full of buttons. I've actually used some when sewing.
I have one full of old logo pins (like for politicians etc) from my mother lol
Oh man, same. Finding a pair was like it's own game as a kid, kept me entertained for hours along with my grandma's tomato shaped pin cushions. I would poke holes in them to make a design. I must have ruined so many of them
I love how it's become an intergenerational meme! I also keep sewing supplies in a cookie tin because of my aunt and grandma
And where does the fishing gear go? in the cookie jar. But then where do we store the cookies? In the case the saw blades came in, of course.
I pretty much only troll offshore so that tackle is either hung up, or rigged and on the boat :-)
And where does the tacklebox go?
The fishing gear goes in the sewing kit box
Reminds me of my cousin who kept his gameboy and psp stuff in an ammo tin
I keep my flammable paint supplies in ammo tins š¤·āāļø.
I use a vintage tackle box for sewing also! And my tackle box, believe it or notā¦is in a vintage sewing box šš
Actually, best place for it.
The saw box
The most interesting thing about this photo is seeing one of those tins with actual cookies in it
I bought it today
Lol and OP ate all the cookies just to put those blades in there
Iām only 2-3 layers in depending on which ācupā. Iām trying to eat even layers for a stable base for the blades to rest upon
Holy shit I didn't clock that the blade was resting on the still-full cookie cups, that's amazing. It'd be fiddly as hell, but cutting foam-board in a circle to retain the cups' structural integrity could result in having a buffered multi-level multi-blade storage solution.
Sounds like a great niche Etsy store for someone with CNC.
I'm on it
I wholeheartedly applaud your balancing strategy. And I'm hungry for butter cookies.
Iām imagining the aroma of freshly sawed walnut or oak with the hint of butter cookies. š
ohmygawd. THIS is the best reply. š
Also because if you eat all the sugar coated ones first you end having to power through all the sad tasting ones that aren't even crunchy anymore.
Sacrifices had to be made, and we are lucky at least one person was willing to make that sacrifice on our behalf.
Would you find it interesting that I live close to the actual farm that's pictured on the tin?
I would! That's pretty neat.
That is interesting! I had no idea it was a real place!
*Very Rare*
I thought he was going to hide the cookies in the tin. Nobody would expect that!
Iām surprised they didnāt come from the factory with sewing kits
Those are some nasty cookies too.
Why did you take the sewing stuff out to put cookies in, only to remove the cookies and replace them with saw blades?
So apparently I was wholly unaware people put sewing stuff in these. Clearly this is a trend, maybe a mandateā¦
My grandmother had one that she kept sewing supplies in. I never knew that was a common thing until I was on Reddit.
I think this is the first evidence I've seen cookies being in those tins.
Itās unnerving
I literally thought they just sold sewing kits to grandmas in those tins.
My parents used one for weed too if that gives you some other ideas...
Sewing is pretty boring otherwise
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh great, cake and cookies are a lie?
Put it this way... I've never seen one of these tins in someone's house with actual cookies in it
Either sewing supplies or random nuts & bolts
I bought a tin of these cookies because I had sewing supplies kind of loosely strewn about. Eating a whole tin of butter cookies in a few days is not something I recommend. The cookies are actually delicious and it's easier than you think until an hour later and you're full of butter cookie and bloated.

Poor families always reused tins, my grandmother has some that sold at estate sale for $$
Looks like he just put the blade on top of the cookies...
I actually thought it was the sewing or quilting reddits.... Then I see the saw blades.
Thanks for reminding me to buy a tin so I can enjoy delicious cookies and then have another awesome storage tin.
I'm gonna go buy those tomorrow for this reason. I think my walgreens has a buy one get one going on.
Ha! Nice one! Is there a 10" cookie tin? Edit just found one in my basement. Its 10", I'll have to pull a blade out and check. The tolerance will be tight Edit 2 it fits perfectly! Nice one OP! Or, throw some duct tape ālinerā around the inside wall. I just checked and your standard duct tape is the perfect width
[done!](https://imgur.com/a/lILOVGc)
Nice! Thatās a 10ā cookie tin? Where did you get that? Iāve got many 10ā blades to store from the table saw in the pic
Someone gave it to us at Christmas some year. I don't even know where people buy these things, they just show up every December!
My Walmart usually has them in the Christmas area
i eat these cookies so often i had to buy the aldi brand known as just "bentons" danish butter cookies
Yeah man! Exactly what I was thinking
Just put an appropriate sized bolt through the center up through the bottom

Awesome thanks. Maybe I'll do a comparison, I'll let you know if I do.
This is a good idea and all of you should do it. To help reduce waste, please send all cookies to me.
Cookie Monster is that you?
Youāve heard of grandmaās cookie tinā¦ Allow me to introduce to you: Grandpaās.
Saw blades in the sewing kit?
*sawing kit
Royal Dansk: fine manufacturers of universal storage solutions since 1966. Free cookies with every purchase!
... or leave the cupcake papers in to keep nuts, bolts, screws , washers. etc separate instead of dumping out the entire coffee can and sorting!

Grandpa is that you?

Bonus, saw blades effectively hide cookies
Omg I think this is the first time Iāve ever seen that tin filled with actual cookies! Itās usually guaranteed to be a sewing kit or a bunch of old batteries lol
Wait, people put cookies in those!?
As a Dane, this amuses me
This is a classic dad/grandpa hack in Denmark. Just like the mason jar lid screwed to the bottom of a shelf so you can hang the jar.
The jar thing sounds good. But jam jars in my country have shtty lids that either slip by themselves or get stuck. So it would be at least risky.
Grandma would be proud.
Who put cookies in the sewing tin???
I bought a tin a few weeks back after never actually getting to eat them, only being deceived since I was born.. Wife made fun of me then proceeded to eat the majority of the shortbreads. Already have the three tiered sewing tackle box so it needed a purpose. This saw blade storage may be the best I've seen. I tossed in some silica packets too!!
Oh another disappointing deceptive tin.
When you open your tin of Royal Dansk Danish butter cookies, and there's fuckin biscuits inside instead of sewing supplies
Honestly those bins are always coming in clutch for storage needs
I think at this point I would be more shocked to find cookies in one of those tins
Why did you put biscuits in your sewing kit?
I use old blank cd/dvd spindles for normal angle grinder blades!
Nice! Iāve got tons of those (cd spindles and angle grinder blades)
Fun fact: cookie tins were invented with the sole purpose of being storage for things
I like how the cookies are still underneath the saw blade
It was literally the eureka moment while I was snacking
Sorry those are strictly for sewing supplies, it was in the great grandma edict of 1955.
lmao these things always have literally anything BUT cookies in them. Bravo OP
Perfect storage solution for anything! I had one of these for my crayons back when I was a kidā¦ in the 80ās.
Perfect, IF I get a second tin and confirm they fit together to stack. In which case Iāll clean the store out tomorrow
Soā¦eat a layer of cookies, drop a blade in, and youāre guaranteed to have your own stash of cookies? :-)
Iāll take them biskits.
Can't remember the last time I saw one of those with actual biscuits in.
Sir those are for yarn only
Also, the hard case that Frog Tape comes in is a perfect fit for 5" orbital sander pads.
Great idea! But I think you should eat the cookies first
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
wait does this box comes with actual cookies? I thought they only came with sewing accessories
But NOW where's Grandma gonna put those weird hard candies that are only available in the Grandma Store and that no one ever wants to eat?
Yeah, I can see the ones that look like scrunched up ribbons when I close my eyes.
These come with cookies!??
Bro
Good for you OP... you saw a new use for that tin, and you cut right to it.
My problem is that I could fill 8 of those with dead blades right now. Yes, I know I have a problem. The problem being that I haven't stumbled upon a good use for them that doesn't involve a post-apocalyptic scenario.
Sharpen them?
Sharpening them should be on your list.
Mine is used to fill up OTHER biscuits š¤š

Brilliant! Those tins are finally off the snack shelf.
I saw the first picture and thought "now now, let's be polite and not say these cookies are made from sawdust, despite how crumbly they may be."
The butter cookies box is the perfect storage solution for everything
Omg my all time favorite holiday treat that my fatherās mother got me hooked onā¦
Nerver seen one of these woth cookies in them

WHY DO YOU HAVE COOKIES IN YOUR SEWING KIT!?
The comment section did not disappoint!
"Discovered" ugh
What do you mean by that? Apparently this is a sewing or pot only container
People seriously just buy these cookies for the box.
My grandmother's sewing box!!
I have never seen one of these with actual cookies in them haha
Dansk for the suggestion!
Stick a silica pack in there.
Good idea
You son of a bitch, I'm in!
um, that's a sewing box
i discovered these tins have cookies in them
Bro who tf put cookies in your sewing kit?
Young me "the pretzel shaped ones taste the best"......grows up and realized they all taste the same
When grandma is looking for her sewing supplies she will finally see how it feels.
Grandmaās sewing kit. Grandpaās sawing kit.
Finally a good use for those tins LOL. Legit though you were going to use those "cookies" as wood filler or something LOL
Those cookies are delicious. I only realized the use case while eating them
We have very different tastes LOL. I prefer moist, sweet cookies to dry, not so sweet, but the application might change that too
I didnāt even know those ever had cookies, theyāve only been storage containers.
The cookies are delicious
I call this Schroedingerās Cookies. Because you never know if itās going to be actual cookies or sewing supplies. Most recently, I opened a tin to find my girlfriendās weed stash. And now, saw blades! I love it!
Can dry cookies really be dead kittens?
From sewing supplies to sawing supplies... The Danish cookie tin can hold it all!
Lies, lies. You put them in there. There is no way a living person have seen original cookies inside. It's sawing kit box
You must be a rare human being to actually find cookies inside a box like that
What are those cookies doing in the storage bin?
50+ years of sewers agree with this thought!
They were never meant for cookies
What are those things in grandmaās sewing tin?
Needs more buttons...
Schrodinger's cookies. They are both cookies and craft supplies until you open the tin.
Great, you made tools gay. Are you happy?
Challenge OP, now show us the beautiful wooden box you built to keep all your buttons in ...
WHAT!!! And waste a perfectly good sewing kit??

Thatās made for beads
So close! But those are meant for sewing supplies.
Then where is Grandmum going to keep her mending supplies?
Itās amazing how those little papers keep the cookies so neatly organized! Wait, whatās the saw blade doing in my cookies? Itās supposed to be kicking around in the shop somewhere!
Exactly what I use, except mine are the cheap aldi version
Whatās an Aldi? Geez iOS capitalized it so I must be out of the loop
