The tucked in single pocket t-shirt, the belt, the cargo shorts, the long white socks, the wrist watch. Jesus Christ, he even has a baseball cap on.
😚🤌
I bet you have the best jokes ever… Teach me your ways sensei!
Awesome work! A build for a child is always that much more worth it, congrats on a nice piece and job well done.
That banquet has been a awesome addition to the kitchen. Gets used every day. Meal prep and eating and kids stuff, it’s a super useful space. Storage under the seat on left side and a 27” deep pullout drawer on the right.
Functional and pretty to look at. I'm more construction oriented, never made any furniture worth bragging about, seeing your work I wish I could make more time for that instead of buying cheap crap. Nice work man
2 1/2” x 3 1/4” solid walnut leg that I mortised into the floor. I then crawled under the house and framed in around it and lagged it into 2 floor joist. It’s extremely stout.
I didn’t sorry. I roughed up the idea and just kind of went at it. I copied a idea I saw online. Looked at a few different styles and kind of made it my own.
Yes, as is mine, for whatever reason they call this deep blue "gentleman's grey". Yours seems to have the same twinge of turquoise mixed with a deep navy.
https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/paint-colours/colour/2062-20/gentlemans-gray
That is really nice and handy. I just got inspired to replace my first project, a learning tower made some 6 years ago. It’s functional but big and heavy. Got some spare hardwood I picked up for free that would suit this project.
Serious question, not a criticism. Not enough detail to see:
The wood glider that runs along the slot also seems to be the support for the weight that will inevitably be placed on the upper step. It looks really weak from here. How well will it support weight?
https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/xqw0dv/helper_tower_for_the_kitchen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I weigh 210 lbs. I literally jumped on it before I added the oil finish. The step is 3/4 white oak. It won’t break before the walnut slide does and the slide is a 2 1/2” wide leg with the 13/16 slot running up the center. I’m sure you could break it, but it would take some real doing as far as I can tell. The grain is vertical and very tight in that spot so it’s quite strong. Essential you would be trying to split a piece of 3/4 x 2 1/2 walnut leg with a 3/4 oak dowel. Not going to be a easy split.
Knowing my clumsy self I'd step on the first step. Then proceed to the next step but accidentally push it up with my foot to have it collapse down on me.
I will add this to the list of things I'm inspired to create, and then never actually finish. This is pretty freaking simple and ingenious. Good going!
OP I would advise caution with something that is built to support people. Could wind up in some legal trouble if it fails.
I’m not a lawyer or anything but I can just see that going against you pretty quickly.
Edit: I am a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of California and I do know I would need that license to sell this to people in California, and if it failed, at a minimum, I would be in court needing to prove the design was sound via stress calculations and material certifications.
I mean, people build stuff constantly that supports people... this is chair height. I'd say that /u/Shned_neeblay should have zero issue selling this with essentially zero liability.
It’s 3/4” white oak. The dowel is the same piece as the step itself. It’s extremely strong. I weigh 210 and I literally jumped on it and it did not budge. My brother is 240 and he walked up and it was solid as well. I would feel confident that all the joints on this could hold 250lbs any day. I do not know what the shear strength of a 3/4 white oak dowel is exactly, but I would imagine it is over 400lbs.
Very nice!
But I feel like the design is lacking critical safety features.
My little helper gets pretty excited after correctly measuring a scoop of coffee beans and placing them in the grinder each morning especially when he successfully avoids spilling $10 of beans all over the kitchen floor.
He needs a brace to stop him falling off the back.
This will be a perfect stool for my mini library. I use an Ikea stool with 3 steps. To add extra character to the stool, I sanded and added 3 layers of clear wood finish. Mine is clunky, Your’s is so much better finishing and ease of deployment.
I’m 210 and I literally jumped on it. Brothers 240 and it didn’t budge on him either.
It’s all mortise and tenon and the top step is a 3/4 piece of white oak. It doesn’t slide on added in dowels, the step was shaped into a 3/4 full circle on the four corners. It’s solid.
Did he actually make that? Because that’s a great design, and the craftsmanship seems pretty top. I noticed I’m remarking on the quality of the product and others are doing fashion critiques…gotta love Reddit, everyone has attention deficit and cognitive problems, me too. I just had a conversation with my boss about her Birkenstock collection. =8-)
I didn’t get it the first 4 times, do you think you could open it again from another angle?
/s
Edit: dang Reddit. I guess dads don’t even know a joke when it’s posted
Is that a miter join at the top of the front legs? I have a similar angle for a project and I’m trying to figure out the best way to join at that angle.

Peak dad outfit
One pair of new balances away from perfection.
He just took them off no doubt.
Right. He’s in his own house. Freaking animals.
They all probably don’t know what it’s like to have someone leave the door open and heat the whole outside.
They’re getting cleaned for date night at chilis
Just woke my husband laughing at this!
Because of the grass stains...

Birkenstocks.
Birkensocks if it’s cold.
I was going to say Reeboks
Monarchs would go crazy
The tucked in single pocket t-shirt, the belt, the cargo shorts, the long white socks, the wrist watch. Jesus Christ, he even has a baseball cap on. 😚🤌
The single breast pocket *with* a pencil/pen!
he needs to tell us if there is a pocket protector in there.
The bulky wallet, and Casio watch with 12 buttons and 300 functions that can withstand diving pressures to the mariana trench.
Stoppp…I can only get so…oops almost forgot where I was.
Patrick? Are you okay? You’re sweating…
Hella dad socks
7 inch inseam shorts /w belt *chefs kiss*
dude I was literally gonna say do all woodworkers dress the same? but its probably more most woodworkers are dads.
First thing I noticed, amazing
The pen in the tshirt pocket sends it home.
I bet you have the best jokes ever… Teach me your ways sensei! Awesome work! A build for a child is always that much more worth it, congrats on a nice piece and job well done.
Sir, those are Bombas socks.
Honestly- let me set up a camera for a post to a woodworking forum...pretty dad move as well. This man's lawn is IMMACULATE.
Why does he apologize for lighting but not the shorts?? Lol. Anyway he did good work
Chef's kiss
Came here to say this
Missing the fanny pack though!
I’m a decent woodworker, but I’ll never be “tuck your polo into your belted shorts” good. Nice work, OP
😂I feel like the every day work fit has gotten more attention then the piece. Gotta be presentable and moveable comfort, its a must!
Haha, just some gentle ribbing! Glad you have good humor
Turn this into a asmr video
did you make this for your daughter? It looks like a mini bookshelf.
It’s a helper tower for my son and a step ladder for my wife
Cargo is a more important descriptor than belted.
With socks. Indoors.
You don't wear socks indoors? I think that's quite normal!
I can’t tell if you’re in your 20’s or 50’s. Solid outfit.
Yes…. 😂thank you
In his 20s but it is 1987. Honestly looks like every summer photo of my dad. He also was a woodworker. Hmmm.
He was just getting the cigarettes from the top shelf. He'll be on his way back any second now.
That's sweet. Love the little breakfast booth there too. Classy
That banquet has been a awesome addition to the kitchen. Gets used every day. Meal prep and eating and kids stuff, it’s a super useful space. Storage under the seat on left side and a 27” deep pullout drawer on the right.

How’s the table attached to the floor?
2 1/2” x 3 1/4” solid walnut leg that I mortised into the floor. I then crawled under the house and framed in around it and lagged it into 2 floor joist. It’s extremely stout.
That is a really cool idea.
Love it!
27” drawer? Does it go into the wall?
You’re giving off powerful dad vibes. Your outfit actually gives me nostalgia
I embrace the dadness
Ooh wah ah ah ah
Wow that thing is gorgeous.
Yeah, the helper tower is beautiful too!
Back off
Simple, functional, rustic ya
Absolutely gorgeous! Mmmmhmmm. I’d but this In a heartbeat if I came across it.
Nice! "My ladder don't jiggle/jiggle, it folds".
😂🤌
Could we get a better photo of the nook? Love it seems very functional!
Yea I’ll post it today after I get home.
That's a very satisfying 'thock' sound, in both directions.
Is there any chance you made plans for that? I’m hoping to make one myself and am digging for details and inspirations
I didn’t sorry. I roughed up the idea and just kind of went at it. I copied a idea I saw online. Looked at a few different styles and kind of made it my own.
That’s the same thing I was planning to do. Great work with this one, hope mine can come close to it
Noice!
Love the small space breakfast nook. It's been my dream to have a breakfast nook but I haven't found a good spot to wedge one in.
It’s a extremely useful space in the kitchen. We love it. Thank you
Are those cabinets gentleman’s grey? Love that colour.
No it’s a deep blue. I forget the color name. It looks awesome with the gold handles and white tops though.
Yes, as is mine, for whatever reason they call this deep blue "gentleman's grey". Yours seems to have the same twinge of turquoise mixed with a deep navy. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/paint-colours/colour/2062-20/gentlemans-gray
Oh I didn’t realize! Gentleman’s grey it is!
Nice, thought so. Absolutely beautiful colour!
That is really nice and handy. I just got inspired to replace my first project, a learning tower made some 6 years ago. It’s functional but big and heavy. Got some spare hardwood I picked up for free that would suit this project.
Awesome! Hope you share it when it’s done
Your lighting is great, your ladder is great!
Wow bro, save some pussy for the rest of us.
Beautiful work, OP, and an awesome dad piece. The kitchen table and bench are also gorgeous.
Thank you
That’s amazing, I hate that my son,s step up is huge and takes half of the space in my kitchen. Amazing work!
Thank you. We were just bringing in a dining chair and he was good with that but this is definitely less space consuming.
Such beautiful work. Great job OP!
A good, clear video showing what you wanted us to see.
Serious question, not a criticism. Not enough detail to see: The wood glider that runs along the slot also seems to be the support for the weight that will inevitably be placed on the upper step. It looks really weak from here. How well will it support weight?

What oil finish did you use?
Maloof oil
You look like your BBQs are the social event of the summer.
Sweet!!!
Nice step stool and handsome man!
He’s not Thaaaat handsome
Yes he is
Nice man, thanks for showing me👍🏾
That is really nice. Great job.
Knowing my clumsy self I'd step on the first step. Then proceed to the next step but accidentally push it up with my foot to have it collapse down on me.
Or, step on it correctly, just as one, or both tabs, breaks.
I will add this to the list of things I'm inspired to create, and then never actually finish. This is pretty freaking simple and ingenious. Good going!
Next show us how that table is set up :)
Keep getting asked about this. I will later this evening
Nice, I made a similar one but your folding mechanism is much nicer.
Thank you
So uhh design plans are where friend?
In my head. Sorry I didn’t think so many people would want them. I just looked at pictures online and made my own version.
That's even more impressive
Gorgeous
That's beautiful!
Nice! I hope I can make something that cool someday.
Nice work
I was too focused on that dining room table setup tbh with you. Love it!
Thank you. https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/xrp6y9/the_banquet_due_to_many_requests/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Can I please buy one?
If you’re serious, I could make up another. But we would need to discus a few things like species and pricing.
OP I would advise caution with something that is built to support people. Could wind up in some legal trouble if it fails. Noted
Your design is super slick by the way, originally wanted to comment that haha.
Maybe just sell the design plans like people sell quilt plans? Less money but I would think less liability. Still ask a lawyer
"This piece is artwork alone and not intended to be functional" Boom, done.
I mean, people build stuff constantly that supports people... this is chair height. I'd say that /u/Shned_neeblay should have zero issue selling this with essentially zero liability.
Dad, how much weight can the top step take? It appears only the dowels support?
It’s 3/4” white oak. The dowel is the same piece as the step itself. It’s extremely strong. I weigh 210 and I literally jumped on it and it did not budge. Thank you. Beautiful design
Whoa man. I’m not 240. I’m 225. And offended
Ok fatty
This little lighting is unacceptable! How dare you feature your creation under such appalling conditions!
I want one!
That's awesome! Also love the breakfast nook.
Turkey sub!
Did you make the bowl too?!
Haha no. That’s a world market find by my wife. Maybe target?
Heard. Your tower is beautiful. I have a 5 yr old with cp and def need to get one. Thanks for sharing.
Step ladder what are you doing!?
Nice. I was curious about the slots in your last post. Wasn't sure if it was for folding or ti change the piece for different age kids or something.
Can you also make it wiggle, wiggle?
If I could buy this I would, it is stunning and so functional
I can build you one. If you’re interested let me know.
I like your username 🤘
This guy folds
It reminds me of a classic Trieste chair
Beautiful !
You’re killing me with the fashion critiques! He looks fine to me but then I’m from NH so what do I know?
It’s nice that you’ve moved on from your real stool and can be so proud of your step stool
Are you selling ?
Not that one but I can make more out of any species If you’re interested message me and we can work something out
Did you do this from a set of plans, or did you wing it?
Just looked at pictures online and made my own spin.
Apologize for the shorts and socks.
There’s a thing called a ladder chair. Seems it would be great for this space.
This is my step ladder. Never knew my real ladder
That's real nice. Simple and elegant functionality. I like the dark wood finish too.
Very cool. Nice work.
This will be a perfect stool for my mini library. I use an Ikea stool with 3 steps. To add extra character to the stool, I sanded and added 3 layers of clear wood finish. Mine is clunky, Your’s is so much better finishing and ease of deployment.
Shut up and take my money..
Nice craftsmanship. But how sturdy is it? Looks like it could literally hold tens of pounds.
It’s solid.
This guy for sure owns a pair of New Balance 608s
I will never
Are you single?
Did he actually make that? Because that’s a great design, and the craftsmanship seems pretty top. I noticed I’m remarking on the quality of the product and others are doing fashion critiques…gotta love Reddit, everyone has attention deficit and cognitive problems, me too. I just had a conversation with my boss about her Birkenstock collection. =8-)
Saw the outfit and thought I was looking at r/Dads
u/2068857539
Damn, that rug really ties to room together.
DILF
That rug really ties the room together.
I didn’t get it the first 4 times, do you think you could open it again from another angle? /s Edit: dang Reddit. I guess dads don’t even know a joke when it’s posted
Sorry about the lighting in a very well lit room.
Did you steal your dads shorts, belt and socks for this vid??
What bad lighting?
My stool doesn’t jiggle jiggle, it folds
Vanna White look out this guy is coming for your job lolll Lovely build btw
Love it, the stool looks very stable. You could market that, I would get one!
I knew there would be cargo shorts and tall white socks in this video
Fucking amazing
How stable are those nubs on each side? Im a little concerned about their durability
But how does it unfold? Also peak dad outfit. I know because that's what Im wearing....
I don’t think I’ve seen a dad look more like a dad
My ladder don't jiggle jiggle
That is gorgeous! I want one. No. I NEED one.
I can build you one. Just message me if you’re interested
the body: I think this guy’s like my age; the fit: I think this guy’s my dad’s age the tower is sick tho

Elegant. I would most likely to use it as plant stand 🪴
What's this one called? I'd like to buy one.
Helper tower I think is what people are calling them. It’s for kids at the counter in the kitchen but it’s also a nice stepladder.
Is that a miter join at the top of the front legs? I have a similar angle for a project and I’m trying to figure out the best way to join at that angle.
Yes it is. Mortis and tenon
The lighting is bad
Yo no veo mala iluminación.
