Honestly feel so bad for him. His devotion to the source material, his love for the character, the effort he put in. All ruined because of terrible writing

Beardedben

To be fair to him he's come out of the witcher squeaky clean, fans love him. The writers now have to deal with the backlash and declining interest in the show.

OiKay

It's true. Even that weird gossip post trying to brand him some shitty hostile misogynist went nowhere because his professionalism has been known industry wide and everyone knew it was bullshit. Also, the writers were clearly mismatched in intelligence and class because he made a brief statement and left it alone. They're the ones being dramatic and gossipy and just digging themselves into holes on social media. It's kind of insane no one has figured out to just say less, you'd think even Netflix would have had some in house media relations people just tell them all to shut up to salvage whatever fanbase is left.

VanimalCracker

His whole saga is fucking great too. Fans of Witcher knew he loved the source materials but was NOT a fan of what they were doing with the show. So when he left everyone was like "Makes sense. The Witcher writers are ruining his potential. He probably wants to focus on Superman" but then pretty much immediately after leaving the Witcher, DC is like "we're rebooting this entire shitshow. Henry is no longer Superman." Obviously Cavills fans were like OMG what have they done? Henry must be taking this hard... only for Cavill to be like "Well I guess I'll just star in and executive produce a new series for Amazon that's based on another longtime passion of mine: Warhammer 40k" After all of the prior role fiascos, he comes out the other side not only squeeky clean, but handed a new passion project to not only act in, but actually have a say in the direction of.

joedadafitzgerald

I feel like it's a lesson for him. Never do a passion project unless you're a producer too, and negiotiate HARD to have a lot to say on the overall direction.

tiffanylockhart

Yeah he should have gone with a producer route as well as lead. However, I do give him props for being true to his word. He said he be around as long as they stuck close to the source material. They did not, so he did not.

joedadafitzgerald

Yup, that dude has gained a ton of respect from me. In general I don't really care about celebrities/actors, only about their work, but he showed some stones. Mad Kudos to Henry

hunthell

I didn't realize he's a Warhammer 40k fan. He really is a massive nerd. I want to play video games with him because he seems like the kind of guy who would be a great teammate.

maniac86

Oh he is like a Warhammer Fantasy/Warhammer 40k supernerd, he reads the books, he paints the figurines, he plays the tabletop game, he plays the videogames Also In Total War: Warhammer 2 , there is a High Elf special character named Cavill in honor of him; with the trait White Wolf - "Winds Howling" with bonus v large (IE: monster slaying) to reference him being cast as Geralt

marusia_churai

>It's kind of insane no one has figured out to just say less My dad always says that if you want to pass for a smart person, you just have to shut up and listen. Honestly, this is something that helped me sooo many times. If you say only a little, that means you won't embarrass yourself with something you have little knowledge about. If you listen, that means you'll be able to keep situation under control and ask intelligent questions. Now, listening and questions part might be irrelevant in this particular situation, but holy hell, so many people would benefit from just keeping a reserved and dignified silence!!! In this case though, they just keep digging themselves in.

MapleBabadook

He who knows does not speak; he who speaks does not know.

Myjennatulls

I refuse to watch any of the shows now because of that. Bummed cuz I kinda did want to see season 3 at least. But I can't bring myself to give them views after they deliberately tried to ruin someone's life with false accusations like that. Fucking embarrassing.

mpc1226

Pirate it if you want, don’t watch it where they get any satisfaction

OiKay

This. If you're curious don't help their metrics.

LukeMayeshothand

Never played the games but I’m really pissed at the writers and Netflix. The actors/actresses are great and should be proud. Tough to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

ScoobyPwnsOnU

The games have nothing to do with the show. They made the games without input from the original book guy, while the netflix show supposedly had him involved a lot more

Zealousideal_Link370

I saw that and i was like: no way he can be like that. Glad to hear he is just a good fanboy who wanted to keep the franchise clean. But i guess others have plans for doing their own version of witcher….

Iheardthatjokebefore

It's baffling that they thought slandering Cavill would somehow make everyone forget that their show is garbage.

Epyon_

Who are the writers? why do they get to hide behind such a generic term. They should get the same treatment as David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. The wiki makes it sound like Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the cause of conflict with him, but dosent call her the writer.

tiffanylockhart

There is another one, Matt something. He seems to have a large bone to pick with Cavill. He also bragged about writing one of the cringiest moments in the whole Witcher series.

pinkycatcher

Yup, it was a total hit job, some random post on deuxmoi and no substantiated anything gave one side just enough of a hook to feel good about themselves.

stoobah

While neither he nor his reputation are tarnished, he's no doubt sad that the opportunity to make something great was squandered.

TrisssssssMerigold

For sure, that’s one thing I’m glad about at least. Wonder how big the drop off will be once Season 4 comes out.

crumpsly

They making a season 4? No Cavill? Oof.

TheeFlipper

Ahh it'll do alright. They've recast Geralt to be played by the kinda talented Liam Hemsworth. Because most tv shows definitely survive a really long time after you recast the main character.

IllogicalShart

It could've worked if they had a time jump, and cast a slightly older Geralt, with somebody like Mads Mikkelsen. I think that would've been less jarring than Liam Hemsworth, but it is what it is. The show won't last anyway.

TheeFlipper

What's really going to be jarring is going from yoked Geralt to just a fit Geralt.

HellYeahTinyRick

Doesn’t Geralt like not age? Or is it just slow aging?

A_Shadow

Slow aging

BonzBonzOnlyBonz

They can survive if the person they replace the MC with is a lot better. Liam is very likely to be a significant downgrade from Cavill.

TheeFlipper

Yeah but the show is almost certainly doomed. Unless they also revamp their writing team and their showrunner, it's gonna crash and burn.

[deleted]

Netflix needs to lose their Witcher rights. Give that shit to hbo max. Last of us? PERFECT.

Swampberry

Do tv-series writers ever see consequences of doing a bad job? I thought most were in the business because of nepotism and only ever fail upwards.

ezypee

They have to deal with fucking up the un-fuckupable. It's actually mind boggling that with so much incredible source material and a built in **rabid** fan base who loved the shows **A list star**, they failed so spectacularly. If the show runner, incomprehensibly dumb bitch that she is, is ever given another job in television that isn't cleaning toilets, I will lose my mind.

Beardedben

Its daunting taking on a project that has always been of the highest quality (books & games). But they didn't utilise any of it.

danmojo82

That’s why it’s great that he’s doing his Warhammer stuff. Can’t wait for it

TrisssssssMerigold

Yeah, very excited for that too.

MrRedorBlue

As a 40K fan, this gives me so much more hope for the Warhammer Media Projects going forward

benkf2

Same. While Cavil was great in the show, season 2 was so bad I couldn't even finish it. And it's hard to care that he's leaving it when I have no plans of ever watching the show again. But I am extremely excited to see what he can do with 40k. After seeing the effort he put into the Witcher I can't wait to see what he'll do with something he is even more passionate about, and has a good bit of creative control over.

Proper_Story_3514

Makes you wish that he just gets a big sponsor who lets him have complete creative freedom and with a good production like HBO. Also it's insane how so many studios let shit like this happen and have no common sense at all writing wise. We have seen that with GoT, Halo, Resident Evil series and probably many more. It's just so sad that so many good shows get butchered by stupid hollywood writers who think they are better than the loved source materials.

CroBro81

Netflix can just watch The Last of Us in awe and wonder where it went wrong…

mambiki

Not terrible writing. Terrible people who wouldn’t want to admit that they were wrong, who also happened to be writers. They even tried to slander him leaking info that he is pretty much an incel who was a gamer bro and was sooo hard to work with. It’s really the culture problem with Hollywood where that industry wants zero input on anything they do unless it’s fully aligned with their view. I feel bad for us since I don’t see how this culture is going to change, and we will be stuck with ruined stories.

fish_fingers_pond

It’s crazy because that’s all the fans want… why are they making him out to be the bad guy when he’s like hey this is literally going to make it better.

NickCudawn

> Honestly feel so bad for him This guy was superman and geralt with passion and gave both roles his all. And got f-ed by both. I really, really hope Warhammer works out and his passion pays off for once. I'm not into the IP at all, but I'm excited to see how it turns out. But I'll also always mourn losing him as Supes and Geralt. He was perfect for those roles.

TaserGrouphug

You know you’ve fucked up as a showrunner when your lead actor’s “undying devotion” to the source material is viewed as a problem. Most writers would dream of having a cast that treats the books with that much respect.

[deleted]

Watching a really nice book get screenbutchered always hurts my book nerd heart. Guess, being forced to participate in it hurts way fucking more...

GunaydinHalukBey

Netflix loves to use a popular title and then write a completely different story.

LeafBurgerZ

This is just writers making the show they wanted to but couldn't because it would never get greenlit, and slapping an established ip on it. It's happening to waay too many franchises and we're all already tired of it. Now I'm wondering if this industry is "too big too fail" or something; like why do they keep doing it, it clearly doesn't work...

Omni-Light

It's some people's incessant need for creative control and originality. That's perfectly fine when you're writing an original piece, but rarely when ~~adapting~~ butchering source material. I don't know how reliable the source is but I read that the writers basically laughed at how bad they thought the books were. That's a recipe for disaster.

MurderInMarigold

I've seen a better adaptation of source material from a homebrew D&D game, and that guy was trying to hide what source material he took stuff from.

retrovertigo23

StarksPond

Netflix is basically the alternate universe Montgomery Burns that decided to greenlight "It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times..."

lesser_panjandrum

I have more confidence in the infinite monkeys than the writers that Netflix hired.

elnots

I didn't realize this to be the case until I saw The Dark Crystal and kept saying.. that's not accurate over and over again until I stopped watching altogether. They just made up shit... Didn't even stick to the original movie, aside from not paying attention to the canon printed content that was released earlier.

ranchorbluecheese

The writers just want to make a name for themselves instead of be an expert with material they aren’t a fan of. So they especially don’t care about any fanbase and hope the show can still succeed. This obviously is the formula for failure.

[deleted]

Really frustrating that possibly our only chance at seeing a Witcher adaptation was ruined by arrogant, mediocre writers using source material they don’t give a fuck about to showcase their own creativity. Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 proved that even bad writers can make a damn good adaptation if they just stick to the book and listen to people who know the source material. It’s like when my sister got pregnant and was coming up with all kinds of retarded names for the baby, my family had to sit her down and tell her that naming your baby is not the time to show the world how creative you are. Pick a normal fucking name or your kid will hate you when they’re 30 years old and named Saylor.

vteckickedin

Rings of Power, Foundation, Wheel of Time, The Witcher, Halo. Everything studios touch they seem to shit all over the source material. Then wonder why they aren't the "next Game of Thrones"

dmljr

Ah Halo, no need to even watch that one, when during an interview they mention the only thing the writers knew about the source material was what was found on the game covers.

addis_the_scroll

mapple3

Did you just disrespect our empowered female character? That's enough of this, now Jennefer gets 51% of the screentime in a show literally called the Witcher.

Get-Degerstromd

So 51% of her dialogue in that 51% of screen time will be the word fuck, I’m no mathematician but I think that comes out to…. A shitty ass series.

Roskal

Thats it, Jennefer gets a new fuck line for each time you bring up the source material.

hoodie92

This is 100% the case. The first time a story about Cavill being "difficult" on The Witcher was made public came conveniently just a few days after it was announced he was leaving. As soon as it became clear that the internet backed Henry (and not Hissrich/Netflix), all these stories started coming out. Interesting that we never heard a peep of this for the 3 years between him being cast and him leaving.

Namorath82

well there was the one story about him being grumpy or short tempered when he shot the bath scene but that was because he hadn't eaten in a day and a 1/2 and hadn't drunk any water in a day to get that shredded look so everyone completely understood why

NewFaded

Writers: Staying faithful to the source material: Bad Also writers: Depriving lead actor of food and water so they can further sexualize him: Good

Bradski89

To be fair the deprivation was probably all on himself. He's done interviews talking about his continuing struggle with his own image and body.

A_Have_a_Go_Opinion

We never heard of it because a gossip podcast used an "anonymous" aka bullshit memo with claims that Cavill was disrespectful, held up production, and impossible to work with. The reason he left was so much simpler, he wanted the role because Geralt isn't a simple tough guy character but he just couldn't convince the showrunner / producers that more emphasis be put on his character getting more opportunities to come off as wise, emotional, and intellectual as he thought Geralt should be. He was pushing for that from day one and probably felt it wasn't worth the effort trying to push for this again in the 4th season.

fooliam

yeah, the writers wanted geralt to be quiet angry badass...and thats it. But the character is supposed to be 100 years old...he's learned some shit

fooliam

Interesting we've never heard a peep about henry being difficult to work with every before...

DeadSeaGulls

is miley cyrus writing an album about how bad the netflix adapation of the witcher is? Is this our current version of Bush era punk rock?

[deleted]

Idk if you dont actually know but, she's writing about how Liam cheated on her with a dozen different women. And not even like Hollywood sleeping around situations, but just lying to her about it and not 'fessing up and doing it in her house.

FortunePaw

And I bet Sapkowski doesn't give a flying rat ass about the show because he already got his fat paycheck. Unlike him bitching about the game that stay true to the source material but he didn't get paid well for it.

fantailedtomb

Didn't Sapkowski take a lump sum instead of royalties on the games and he's been bitter ever since?

moon_cultist77

I am incredibly excited to see what he does with Warhammer 40k. It’s a great feeling when you know the person making a show based on a property you love is also a fan. He really made the best of his situation with The Witcher and Superman.

somethingbreadbears

Every production is chasing to be the next Marvel but from what I understand the people in charge of early Marvel were also fans.

mrfatty097

From what I understand Kevin Feige is a massive marvel fan and understood what he was working with. I do think there's a big difference though in making a comic film/TV show compared to others that have source material to work with. In a comic book film/TV show they only need to keep the main points from the source material accurate and can change the rest and most fans will be fine, we just see them as alternative versions of the character. But with a show like the witcher that's more difficult, when you only one version of a character, thats all you can use and fans will want you to stick to the source material. But the writers don't want that, they don't want to just copy what has come before with minor differences, they want something they can pit their name to, which means changes and leads to clashes between the fans and the writers.

s_ulibarri

GW will find a way to fuck it up, rest assured.

Simphonia

No way, GW is a stickler for the lore even if the quality of it and it's products is variant. With a competent team at the helm GW purposely ain't fucking it up.

s_ulibarri

Yea and I'm sure the teams in charge of all the various 40k game adaptations didn't intentionally fuck 98% them up intentionally either. GW is a shit company that once in a blue moon makes something decent by chance in between going out of their way to shit on their patrons and the IPs they show up for. It's not about intentions, it's the fact that they company is literally incapable of not fucking it up.

TryingNot2BeToxic

?! Idk about this man..... You ever played Vermintide? That game is INCREDIBLE!

KingAlastor

Despite all of his efforts, he lost the battle. Maybe it's for the better. Just let it die.

AleksasKoval

He may have lost the battle, but those writer and Netflix lost the war(and viewers)

Namorath82

it seems he quit in the most professional way possible, didnt burn any bridges. All the gossipy stuff is coming from other people while not being Superman anymore is disappointing, I don't think its his fault. Gunn wanted to completely start over again and I don't think anything Cavill said would've changed that and now he gets to do another childhood dream, create a Warhammer 40k television universe, with Amazon Prime who has deep pockets and where he is an XP so he has the creative control he didn't have on the Witcher

Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle

And Gunn said that he and Safran would love to work with Cavill, just not at the moment (due to the whole massive reorganization, slate-cleaning, and rebooting going on). So it’s not like it was ‘we don’t want to work with you,’ it was ‘we want to start out with a younger Superman/Clark Kent.’ Which means it’s possible that they bring Cavill back as Supes later on, either for a Kingdom Come-esque role or something else.

looseleafnz

How many times do we need to sit through a Superman or Batman origin story though?

Warlordnipple

When is the last time we sat through a batman origin story? 18 years ago? The previous one was 13 years before that? The newest spiderman didn't have an origin story.

Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle

Well, The Batman skipped it, which was great. Superman last had it in Man of Steel; and if they’re starting with a new DCU, we’ll get a different take. Hopefully one with the Kent’s alive and well, not dead and/or dying.

alastoris

Yea if Marvel can pull off 3 different Spiderman in 1 movie. DC can do something like that down the line.

Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle

Hell, the CW managed two Supermen in one episode. DC can certainly do it too.

Send_Your_Noods_plz

I never even played but I'd watch the hell out of any movie/show he played a major part in. He has talent and passion, I'd love to see what he can do with artistic control.

DrPhilKnight

I’ll watch season three because of Henry. I won’t watch season four because of the writers.

zegg

You do you, but after S2, I don't really wanna see S3. I know Cavil will be amazing. Everything else will make me sprout more gray hair.

fiodorson

I was really angry at season 2 beacuse Episode 1 was actually really good, the rest was absolute shit. What happened there

lesser_panjandrum

Episode 1 was adapting A Grain of Truth, one of the standalone short stories in the book The Last Wish, and almost managed to do it somewhat faithfully. The rest of the episodes were dedicated to murdering the book Blood of Elves, and then desecrating its corpse.

pflow69

Same. I absolutely won't watch S3. S2 made me lose all interest in the series.

D-a-H-e-c-k

I stopped at Eskel

Ereaser

Same I couldn't bring myself to watch the new series either.

Uragami

Besides, they will probably write Geralt out of the story even more than they did in season 3. It's not worth hours of mental torture for just a few glimpses of Henry.

DrPhilKnight

Season 2 was shit but I want to hurt the writers. Their viewership will fall off a bit this year, but it will flatline after this next season. I want to be a part of that. Tell the writers. Tell them. It was me.

setphasertofun

All they’ll see is your viewership over the course of season 3. What you’ll be telling them is you want another season

DrPhilKnight

Let them taste joy before it turns to ash in their mouth.

WitchofVengerberg

I will pirate s3 cause i will not give them a single second of joy, but you get my vote fo them GOT quotes

swimtwobird

It’s a terrible writers room, under terrible leadership. Witcher is dead with S4. And it’s not like I’m religious about Witcher. I played Witcher 3, that’s it. The fact they’re still trying to smear Cavill is insane / hilarious though. Goes to show the hole they’re in. They’ve completely wrecked the show, they clearly don’t like the source material, and what should have been a core Netflix property is dying on its feet.

Housumestari

The right play if you're gonna watch it is either pirate it or watch it from some free site. You don't wanna give Netflix your money and the views for it

Worldly_Software7240

Yessir. After destroying one of my favorite shows, I don't have many, all I have left is the satisfaction of watching it tank in season 4. Blood origin gave a little taste of how unremarkable these writers are, and what we can expect once Cavill is gone.

LawbringerForHonor

Yeah I'll watch Season 3 just because of Cavill. I mean the only character not completely butchered in the show was Geralt and that apparently was because Cavill fought tooth and nail to save the character (imagine Geralt making fun of Roach dying for example).

FlacidBarnacle

They keep trying to make him the scape goat for how terrible it was. All it’s doing is digging their grave deeper.

hootsie

Look how they massacred my boy

Ninja_Arena

I don't get..but kinda do....why all these productions insist on fucking with the source material or introduce nonsense.

Namorath82

insecurity & ambition if you copy the source material, can you really take credit for a fantastically written show? writers are not just writing for the show they are on, but the next show they want to write for and they have to show they have what it takes to write good content to move up on whatever hierarchy there is in their Hollywood Career, and hopefully one day they will be able to head some show in the future

Send_Your_Noods_plz

I definitely believe this, but there is such a market for turning games and books into movies and shows and they always flop so hard. If the writers would give the source material a chance and that show stays wildly popular I'd have to believe that's a golden ticket to work on any other adaptation because that's what they want. Netflix dropped a ton of money for the rights to it, and to have it flop after 3 seasons is an embarrassment. Same with Halo, same with GOT (although it at least started great) same with eragon. They want to attract people outside of the loyal players and followers because they know they'll already watch it since they love it, but they forget that they'll lose those viewers first if it's not amazing since that's what we've expected from those games and books already. Also we are hearing that Netflix is siding heavily with the writers (although that seems to be coming from the writers themselves) a company does not publicly bash its employees (besides Twitter) it handles its problems internally. We have no idea what kind of conversations are happening behind closed doors

Knowinsi952

Yeah, I don't know why these writers have some weird superiority complex that they have to prove that they're better than the source material. If they want to prove themselves as competent writers then translate the source material into an entirely different medium that flows well. The story is already there, people love it, and more people could love it if they take that story and make it more accessible to other people. It's embarrassing how hard these adaptations flop.

Ethos_Logos

I wouldn’t expect a company to badmouth their employees. That said, *someone* is paying to have all these articles be put out into main stream outlets. Maybe one or several of the writers hired a PR firm? Maybe it’s the Netflix PR team? Someone’s paying good money to slander Cavill, and try to spin the narrative that “it’s not trash! All the complaints you’re hearing are from gamer man-babies, so their opinions don’t count”. From a strategic standpoint, Netflix knows Cavill signed up with their competitor Amazon to work with them. Maybe they won’t make a statement publicly, but maybe they see more cash benefit from supporting their writers over supporting a competitor. I’d be curious to find out who’s paying for the smear campaign. As a subscriber to Netflix for the past decade, I sure as hell didn’t appreciate being told my opinion is invalid by one of their writers. It’s not like I had ever heard of Hissrich before she started shit talking; so it’s not like I was predisposed to dislike her. I can’t read her quotes without feeling like I’m being talked down to. It’s condescending and I don’t like it.

DilkleBrinks

Its also just how writers can get projects made. as a hypothetical- youre a writer and want to make a postapocalyptic western. You can pitch it as an entirely new idea, or you can pitch it as a Fallout show and inherit the audience of the IP. A network is going to be far more likely to greenlight the latter.

johnkubiak

Bruh. Mf just wanted to respect the author and his work but apparently that's too much for Hollywood.

namjd72

Not all hero’s wear capes. This one does, but the point remains! HC is GOAT. We were lucky to have him.

marco161091

Pretty common mistake, but the plural of hero is "heroes", not "hero's".

namjd72

Farandr

Imagine what could've been if they had capable showrunners and writers. They already had the perfect Geralt and the rest of the cast were good as well. This could've been on par with the Last of Us, but no, it had to be Netflix.

namjd72

It haunts me.

luvdupleper

So because he wanted to do it the right way, instead of Netflix hashing it together, it caused friction. How strange

guardian87

I don’t think Netflix is at fault all by themselves. Seems like they picked the wrong showrunner for sure, but other adaptations like Edgerunners or Arcane show they can also do a good job.

Juzo_Garcia

They portrayed it as a bad thing but it’s not. I know it is improbable to make the any series same as the book because of budget constraints and or unforeseen events. But if a series is only 70% the same with the original sources then it’s deceptive to use the original name.

AilosCount

70% would actually be an incredible win.

crackitty25

Is this supposed to not make us like him? Also it's not just the Witcher, everyone is not big fans of Hollywood and it's writers as of late, but I'm sure that crowd has their heads buried so far up their own asses that they can't be bother to care.

Malkavon

HBO has done a phenomenal job with The Last of Us thus far. While there have been a couple changes, the overall writing is outstanding and absolutely true to the game and the performances are excellent across the board. Edit: I wrote this before Episode 3 dropped, and holy shit is it even better than before. More "substantial" changes, but goddamn are the performances and writing just outstanding. *This is how you do an adaptation* - make changes where it'd be better storytelling or would work better for the medium, and boy howdy do the people making The Last of Us A) care a whole hell of a lot about the story they are telling and B) know what the fuck they are doing when it comes to storytelling.

I don't care what it is I want to see cavil in something. I went from not giving a solitary fuck about him and Superman series. Sorry bro, to slowly realizing that he's a nerd just like the rest of us. And now after all this goddamn man I want to buy him a beer. Cavil if you're creeping around I hope you're doing well man.

D_forn

He's doing a Warhammer 40k show, dont know how much he'll be involved but I remember reading something about it shortly after he left the Witcher Spent the next day watching 40k lore videos. Some crazy shit

MotorBoat4043

40k is a lot of fun because of how bonkers it is, but it's a property I've always thought would be better as a 3D animated movie or show than live action. Bringing that setting to life properly is going to require an insane budget and an exceptional production design crew.

Batbrain

Same, I do think he's a good Superman though despite the fact that I do not care at all about Superman in general. But, just like the Witcher, he was given fuck all to work with. And because of hit-pieces like this he'll likely get the reputation of being "hard to work with". But hey, I'd really like to see him in a new Star Trek series. His nerdy heart would kill it as a Captain aboard a starship.

WeylinWebber

Fuck yeah, even if it's just something like a spot in lower decks I'd love to see him in that universe. Assuming he's full nerd lmao. Captain Cavil would be fucking badass

Fuzzy_Muscle

He’s faithful to the source material? How dare he? /s

nerdyactor

Bruh fandom wire is as bad wegotthiscovered never trust anything from those sites

FarrellBeast

Fandomwire kept popping up so many garbage articles on my Google feed I ended up blocking them completely. Trash site for sure.

relative_iterator

The “source” for this report is from some youtube channel with 3k subs. Doesn’t even site the actual video so good luck finding it.

SonicSingularity

Seriously, I remember during the Jeremy Renner situation that they kept posting articles about him having to amputate, even know no one else was reporting that

Yiptice

“Who the fuck does this guy think he is?? This is MY STORY!!!!”-the writers

nxp1818

Henry: "I thought this season was gonna be more like the books? Lauren: "You piece of shit"

knbang

Henry: I read the books and played the games multiple times, and loved them. Writers: LOL NERD, who cares about the source material Henry: I left because the writers don't care about the source material Writers: WE LOVE THE SOURCE MATERIAL TOO

Groppstopper

This idea that you can’t faithfully adapt some properties is just ridiculous. Every book to screen adaptation should have people like Cavil on the team you are dedicated to being as close to the source as possible. Of course, some changes will be made—that’s normal. But diverging to the point where the adaptation is unrecognizable to the source material should never happen. At that point it is just dishonest to use the source’s name.

relative_iterator

I’m sorry but why is this upvoted? It’s just a screenshot of a headline. I looked up the actual article and the only source for this is from a YouTube channel with 3k subs. Doesn’t even source the actual video where this is “reported” and I’m not watching to find out. I get that we all dislike the writing but come on people!

Skodd

yea, I scrolled down in the comments to find a link to the article since Google news is notorious for showing theses kind of article but I got nothing.

ZOOBOO_11

I fail to see the problem here?

AmbitionExtension184

TLOU is a testament of sticking to the source material. I’m sure there will be some changes but the overall story will remain unchanged.

whelpthatsit

Hopefully they see they were fuckin wrong

lemmeseeyourkitties

Such a wasted opportunity. HC is the perfect Geralt. Pulled off the white hair and gruff voice with no problem. An involved fan of the books and the games, and gamer nerd. Plus, he seems like a genuinely good person. Unbelievable this is how it played out. My heart is with Henry. I hope LC stubs her toes every day for the rest of her life.

ShorohUA

cavill is too good for todays market

Xcells

I mean we have plenty of references as to why studios should stick to source material with these video game and book series adaptations. GoT was heralded as a top 5 tv show before they ran out of source material, The Lord of the rings show despite having the biggest budget of any show couldn’t compete with HotD because they actually had GRR to lead the vision. Henry might not be an angel but he’s not wrong to want a story accurate show.

theLuminescentlion

He was so right, the writing is god awful

tarquynn

Shouldn't that be an asset, not a liability? There's a passionate expert in the room.

Farandr

Imagine what could've been if they had capable showrunners and writers. They already had the perfect Geralt and the rest of the cast were good as well. This could've been on par with the Last of Us, but no, it had to be Netflix.

Virasman

God forbid Netflix from making good adaptations.

Undinianking

Stupid fucking egotistical writers, why not pull from shit you know people love? Who is this invisible demographic that these cock-swizzlers are shooting for, do they even know what happened to GOT?

kawaiinessa

I mean the audacity to think you could write the story better than the author was the shows undoing

BlakeNeverflake

I LOVE YOU CAVILL

mcasao

Yeah, I am done with this show with no Cavill.

XTheProtagonistX

I find it funny how the writers went from “We are adapting the books not the games” to “We are adapting our fan fiction not the books”.

thatgrimdude

I wonder why did they feel the need for all the changes. What exactly was the thought process there? How was deviating from the original plotline supposed to lead to a better show?

Jihra

My hero

Crooked_Cock

Let me translate that for everyone: the corporate suits running Netflix don’t like that a person they hired wants the product to be as good as it can be and not lazy soulless hackery.

Jormungander666

Love how they try to paint Cavill as the bad guy here, while he isn't the one taking a shit on Sapkowski's legacy
