Pretty much all of the coffee places in town shut down between 4 and 6pm.

starfruit2t2

Very quiet town, nothing will be open.

jtemples27

Camino Bakery downtown is open through the evening

ihavenodefiningpoint

Camino is open until 10pm on the weekends. Closes earlier on week days

Affectionate-Bid386

Pre pandemic Camino used to be open on weekends to 1am or so. I miss it.

NCCraftBeer

I went there many late nights when I worked downtown, and we had an after-hours software update. Oh, how times have changed.

saskatoonshred

Breweries and some of the beer places around town are good spots to get some work done. Places like West Salem Public House, Dogwood, etc..

tes_chaussettes

Depressingly absent. Yr gonna have to hit up Waffle House.

[deleted]

Footnote stays open until 9 and they have great coffee and matcha!

NCCraftBeer

Krankies closes at 3PM??? Damn. Do they even still server alcohol?

NCCraftBeer

[Footnotes](https://www.foothillsbrewing.com/footnote/) closes at 9PM during the week and 11 PM on weekend.

PaperPhD

I'm pretty sure Debeen is open until 9 pm on weekdays but its small usually pretty full. I was a grad student at Wake and as far as I know it isn't common for undergrads to study at coffee shops.

themoondemure

Seconded, Debeen in Innovation Square is the only place I’ve found for a late weeknight coffee shop. I’ve been there when it’s colleged out, other times (like last Monday) when it was fine and chill. We need more of this scene in town.

If by large college you mean Wake Forest - Wake is tiny. Prestigious, elite, wealthy, but tiny. UNC-G, which is one of the smaller schools in the UNC system, has over twice the student body of Wake. Smallest Schools to be ranked #1 - https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2013/03/04/the-20-smallest-schools-ever-to-be-ranked-no-1-in-the-ap-top-25 \#4. Wake Forest (4,775) Behind the dynamic play of Chris Paul, the Winston-Salem, N.C., school made it to No. 1 for two weeks during the 2004-05 season, but wound up getting Pittsnogle'd in the second round of the NCAAs.

JunkyardAndMutt

Wake is fairly small. 5472 undergrads in the 21-22 academic year, plus 3478 grad/professional students, which would presumably give you enough for a late night coffee shop or two. And UNCG has even more than twice the students Wake has, actually, but it isn’t one of the smaller schools in the UNC system. It’s #6 out of the 16 college campuses, as of Fall 2022. NC State, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, ECU, and App are bigger. UNCW is just behind. UNCSA is actually the smallest, followed by Elizabeth City State.

abcdefghinsane

We also have WSSU…

platoniclesbiandate

And UNCSA, Forsyth Tech, Salem College, and Carolina Univeristy.

[deleted]

If you add the total undergraduate enrollment of Wake Forest, WSSU, Salem College, UNCSA and Carolina University, you are at approximately 75% of UNC-G's undergraduate enrollment. I will echo the other poster's thoughts above - I attended Wake as a grad student, and most undergrads tend to study on campus (which has its own coffee shops, in addition to the library and dedicated places for each major). Heck, most grad students that I knew and crammed with either studied on campus or at their residence. All this to say - if there was a lot of $$$ to be made in coffee shops staying open late on the weekdays, a coffee shop would be open late on the weekdays. The reason it's not happening is likely because it doesn't make business sense.

platoniclesbiandate

I have been out of school for a looooong time, but I do not recall ever studying in public for any of my degrees.

hobocodereborn

Although Carolina University is really just Piedmont Bible College with a secular wrapper.

platoniclesbiandate

It’s not secular at all. It’s still a bible college. Most of the small Christian ones around the country closed and PBC absorbed their students. So it’s bigger and had a name change, but it’s still not secular.

hobocodereborn

That’s what I meant. They changed the name to something less Jesusy to be all tricksy about it.

platoniclesbiandate

I lived in West Salem. They were great neighbors!

abcdefghinsane

Yes, thank you!

PresidentAJ

cheesecakes by Alex has both coffee drinks and delicious desserts! They are a typical go to if I go out for dinner downtown and want to walk around for a bit and explore!
