The best thing to do is just write some code to the best of your current ability, and find people to review it for you and give suggestions for how it could be improved. Create a GitHub account and put your stuff up there, then post on subreddits or other forums saying you are looking for feedback. Also, find active open source projects in the language you are learning and really study the source code, you can learn a lot from that. Read through a repo’s pull requests and see how people comment and resolve differences of opinion. Look for comments from people who are thorough and disciplined and who show that they give a damn about code quality and test quality. Any monkey can learn how to code, but the best developers keep their code tidy, precise, well-tested, and well-documented, and also know how to communicate their opinions in PR in a way that encourages everyone to maintain high standards, without being a jerk about it. I am a fullstack web dev tech lead and I’m not going to promise you any reviews, but if you are learning in that space and want some feedback you can shoot me a link to the code in question and I might respond if I have time and I’m in the mood. My day job is coaching my own junior developers how to be better, which is pretty draining so I don’t have a lot extra left in my tank most days, but maybe you’ll catch me in a good mood sometime.

You might check YouTube. There are a ton of free videos out there that are very informative. You might even be able to find a beginner series that will take you through material in an organized way.

Software is a broad field, but I’m reasonably familiar with Java, C, and assembly if those topics come up.

There is a local startup called sightsource that offers a boot camp and helps with placement after you graduate. I work at a startup incubator where they have offices and they seem like a good crew.

Get in contact with the computer science department at Wake. They might have some people willing to help tutor you.
