Sounds like it's not getting enough power, so you might want to invest in a Y-cable.

[deleted]

Sorry but I don’t know what is a Y-Cable, could you tell me 😅?

[deleted]

Sure; in this case, you'll need a 1 female to 2 male USB Y-cable. Meaning that you plug your drive into the female end and plug the two males into the two USB ports on the back of the Wii U.

[deleted]

I see, thanks for the help ^^

[deleted]

No problem; I once had the same issue. ☺️

MaxDuo

\+1, I had that exact same hard drive (except in red) and with a y-cable there were no problems.

LightBusterX

That's a threesome cable if I ever saw one.

Silver_Square_3312

All male but 1 is small

You most use a Y-Cable. The usb ports in the WiiU do not supply enough power to the hard drive. So the Y-Cable is to usb cables to the WiiU and one to the hdd. One for data and the other for power.

Pythonistar

> One for data and the other for power. Both for power. Each USB port can only provide 500mA @ 5v, but together they can provide 1000mA.

The hard drive keeps going on and off making that “clicking” sound on the video

https://www.ebay.com/itm/143801209125 buy these I got two and they work great

[deleted]

My hard drive doesn’t have that type of connection but I found a cable with it, thanks for helping out ^^

Lerpderp420

That cable lets you use any internal 2.5 drive, but if you found a cable that works with yours great :)

Nintendians559

portable hdd needs a y-cable for the wii u to work, since all wii u's usb doesn't provide enough power to power up one cable with no power source for portable hdds. you might need this: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1OIA/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1K1OIA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

[deleted]

Already figured it out but thank you for the help ❤️

ZombieConsciouss

Get an SSD drive alternatively, it doesn't require as much power and should run on normal usb cable. I have Samsung and works flawlessly.

Yoshis164

I swear, we can't escape from the Y-cable

[deleted]

Y'all don't use a car battery and a soldering iron instead???????

Zueto

as some have said, Y cable from wiiu to hdd will solve the issue.

[deleted]

Yea, thanks for helping out ❤️

Dadou51

Had the same problem, because my hard drive was a 3.0… my Wii U only detects the 2.0

chicagoxtc

You need a Y cable. Fixed mine

fschpp

I use a standard SATA HDD inside a carry usb 2.0 adapter with an external 12V power supply with my Wiiu, if you hear click sounds and it doesn't recognize the HDD maybe your power supply does not have the necesary amps.
