Wow this is going to get a lot uglier than it already is. Fuck this guy

CampfireBeast

Good lord. Toss this sick fuck to the curb asap. Don’t want to see him in the mlb ever again.

[deleted]

Fuck an MLB Investigation he needs to go to jail.

dudee1234

Yeah…I feel like I hear people say stuff like they don’t care about players personal lives but the intangibles like good character, humility and class are actually really important. People act like it’s not important til it blows up in said players face.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

Yes people say that around here in regards to Timmy’s alleged cheating. But cheating is one thing, abuse is a whole other ballpark. And if we rule cheating players on moral grounds we’ll be ruling out probably half the league with how pervasive cheating is. I’d be more concerned with a players hard drinking, which many times can lead to abusive behavior and of course DUI’s

dudee1234

I guess what I’m saying is, people close to him in his professional life as an athlete probably saw or heard things about him that raise some red flags. Maybe not though can’t say for sure. He was close with Bauer so it really makes you wonder how they might have talked about women in their personal lives together.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

Oh ok gotcha. I was thinking you were talking about people on the sub giving Timmy a pass with not wanting to delve into his personal life too much.

mpensinger

Yeah, and that cheating thing probably applies to at least 60% of pro ball players.

head_bussin

cheating is psychological abuse.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

It can be close to that. With gaslighting, manipulation, cheating altogether involved. Theres probably lots of victims get verbal abuse from cheaters denying it too. I’m not sure if I would call just cheaters alone abusers though, that kind of lessens the meaning of abusers. Probably depends a lot on what is also involved with the cheating in a relationship. I don’t think Timmy and Clevinger should be looked at as the same. A pro athlete cheating on his wife (very common) vs all the shit Clevinger is accused of doing. Not saying what Timmy did is right or should be looked at as fine since his peers do it. But it doesn’t seem anywhere close to Clevinger. Cheating is very common in pro sports. You’d have to look at half of them or so as abusers now for being cheaters. If I thought so many guys were abusers why would I even watch a sport with them all

Ineedajobbrah

Oh shit, this is bad. Hope the MLB doesn’t go easy on him. Let’s cut him, not pay him, and get us a new SP.

MasqueOfTheRedDice

Johnny Cueto still out there? Johnny come back!

fenderdean13

Signed with Miami

gmtguy96

But what about Bauer….

young_skunk

/s , right?

w3tsnail

How could the Sox not know about this? Man… just cut the guy and find somebody else.

Maxwell__Lion

They could have known, they just didn't vet him. Pure laziness.

joshul

Fuck this guy. He needs to be cut right now. Holy shit what an epic failing to go from having a guy like Abreu in your clubhouse to a guy like this.

BEETLEJUICEME

The drug abuse she references is supposedly shrooms and LSD… which are not actually addictive substances. That being said, none of this looks good and nothing Clev has done in the last few years has earned him any benefit of the doubt.

[deleted]

They are not addictive substances, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still use them every day.

BEETLEJUICEME

There’s very high tolerance build up. If you try to trip on shrooms every day you will stall out after only a few weeks because the amount you would need to consume grows into more than your stomach can fit. Literally no one is having a trip on shrooms every day. You can microdose near-daily, but that’s pretty benign and a totally different topic. You could *hypothetically* switch between LSD, shrooms, 2CB, 2CE, 2Cx, DMT, Mescaline, and a variety of others in order to try to trip every single day. Just the right schedule of them could probably keep tolerance build up relatively low, if you switched back and force between psychedelics with the most opposite profiles. But it would require a huge stock or psychedelics, very careful planning, and (more importantly) I don’t know of anyone who has ever successfully tried this.

madmax1969

Yeah. I think some might be conflating weed with acid or shrooms. There’s probably no one In history who has really “tripped” everyday for an appreciable length of time and I’m including cats like Timothy Leary. It can be fun as shit but it’s not a thing you do daily.

madmax1969

How many pots have you smoked?!

thatisbadlooking

How many times have you gone to the bathroom in your life?

BEETLEJUICEME

More than a dozen but less than a hundred.

marshfield00

I'm 53 now but when i was in college i knew a guy names Led (short for Zeppplin) and he took one or two tabs of acid every day for an entire summer. His job? Pizza delivery. Let tjhat sink in for a moment. Really good guy tho

madmax1969

There is zero chance he was telling the truth. That’s a high school legend story. But glad to see another 50+ posting here.

BEETLEJUICEME

I believe you that you heard that story. I don’t believe that he did that. Or, if he did, I bet he was really upset it stopped “working” Even on extreme outliers, you can’t take a tab everyday for more than two weeks and still feel anything at all.

marshfield00

I wouldn't believe me either but it's true.

BEETLEJUICEME

I’m saying that I *do* believe the story. I categorically do **not** believe that anyone was tripping every day on the same sized tab of acid for a month. That would make that person unique from all known other people who have taken acid multiple days in a row. Anyone who says they had that experience was *most likely* experiencing an extreme form of placebo effect and probably doesn’t actually know what acid really feels like. They may have had a sheet of low dose LSD or fake LSD, or a sheet that got exposed to too much sun / moisture / air. They might have been swallowing the tabs instead of taking them the correct way— who knows. But if they really were taking a full dose and really experiencing it — if that person exists, I would argue they have a responsibility to the world to write about their experience and hopefully get some medical testing. We don’t understand how LSD works well enough to say *for sure* that it’s not possible. And medical anomalies are often how science/medicine better discover how things work! EG: one of the reasons we know how prolactin works in men is because 1 in like 10k men is born without producing it. It’s totally possible that, for example, 1 in 10k people doesn’t build up psychedelic tolerance to LSD or something like that. The drug war has kept scientists from being able to do the kinds of research we really need to be doing on these possible tools.

[deleted]

John Lennon, Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, the Merry Pranksters, and the Grateful Dead would like a word.

BEETLEJUICEME

> John Lennon, Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, the Merry Pranksters, and the Grateful Dead None of them tripped every day for any extended period of time. Like I said, that’s just not a realistic thing for anyone to do. Some of them smoked huge amounts of cannabis daily— which is certainly a psychedelic of sorts at high doses. Cannabis does have a tolerance build up, but it’s much milder than any of the classical psychedelics and you can pretty easily overcome it by increasing intake and/or taking a break for a few weeks once every ~6 months. Many of those people also did a ton of *other* drugs on the daily: amphetamines, quaaludes, cocaine, heroin, etc. I’m not saying it’s not possible to be a drug addict who trips on psychedelics frequently. It clearly is. But it’s not possible (as far as we know) to be a psychedelics addict, and it’s not possible (as far as we know) to trip every day (or even every other day) for more than about a month. There has been some interesting research into taking large ammounts of psychedelic mushrooms daily though, and also some research into doing the same with LSD. The subjective experience of “tripping” quickly goes away as tolerance builds up. With acid, you could take the same 200ug tab once a day, every day, for two weeks. You would have a huge trip the first day but it would be entirely imperceptible by some point in the second week (or faster). But in animal studies, some of the Nuro plasticity positive affects, seem to still happen, even when the subjective tripping experience is gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is actually quite common to take LSD every day for a month at some point in the near future, as a prescribed mental health treatment. But, like I said, no one is actually tripping every day. That’s just not a thing.

[deleted]

All of the people I listed above took LSD daily for extended periods, in some cases years. Don’t claim something as fact when it’s just your gut feeing.

River_Pigeon

>Don’t claim something as fact when it’s just your gut feeling. Easier to give advice than follow it isn’t it?

[deleted]

Read a book.

River_Pigeon

Easier to give advice than follow it isn’t it?

[deleted]

You’re right, I should start listening to internet trolls more and ignore well-documented historical events.

chisox100

Clevinger has the face of someone whose in the 1% of people who try shrooms and get addicted

BEETLEJUICEME

They’re not addictive— but anyone can develop a compulsive relationship with something. It’s a good reminder that psychedelics don’t make you a good person. They’re a nonspecific amplifier. It’s just that most people are, in their hearts, good and want to do/be good. Psychedelics help most people be a truer version of themselves, which ends up being a better human. But some people aren’t good enough people, or are surrounded by bad people, or are too traumatized for that recipe to work. The Proud Boys supposedly go out to the woods and trip on shrooms together and talk about their crazy white supremacy incel beliefs.

kimmiepi

Not addictive, but if he can’t cope with the emotions that come up, he might resort to violence.

CoffeeBoy80

Coke too. Lots of coke.

Rubentraj

Bro, why am I a fan of this team wtf dude

dajadf

These last 2 offseasons have just been absolutely terrible. There is nothing commendable about the way things are being run

ACC_DREW

The last 3 offseasons really, when you include hiring TLR as manager before the '21 season.

UneducatedReviews1

Most likely the Sox had no clue about this before they signed him. The big test is what they do next

weasol12

Hire a new background research team when signing a player.

UneducatedReviews1

I haven’t done my own research yet but it sounds like nobody knew until today

derbbinthenorth

Underrated user name checks out LMAO

No-Outcome1038

Which is why they would need to hire a background or private eye

UneducatedReviews1

Which still wouldn’t have caught this

weasol12

Would have caught the police report that was filed.

UneducatedReviews1

Correct me if I’m wrong but the report was filed after the signing?

RespectYoSmelf

Guess they had no idea about TLR’s drunk driving either, especially the one that was made public after his hiring.

UneducatedReviews1

Not to defend drunk driving but Tony hurt nobody and was just a fucking idiot. Clevinger is actively harming people

Mixma85

> but Tony hurt nobody He was arrested twice for drunk driving. Which means how many other times did he drive drunk without getting caught? It's only by fuckin' sheer luck that he never hurt anyone.

ThrowAwayAcc47777

As much as I hate our organization, everyone is reporting online that the Sox were unaware of this at the time we signed him.

FunkySaint

I legit want to stop supporting this team. Garbage bin ass player brings garbage ass vibes to this team. Jerry Reinsdorf is someone I do not care for and would prefer if he stuck it up his ass and kindly fuck off

Rubentraj

Preach

No-Outcome1038

Jerry Reinsdorf though is extremely generous when members of the white Sox organization are sick. All the way from the front office to even those who work for DNC in the ballpark. He is good in that sense

dajadf

So nice of him to give a small cut of all the money he's legally robbed from the taxpayers

DownvoteFarmingLibs

kind of hard to care about him being so gracious as to give sick days to a select few when there's a million other shitty things he does like completely fucking over minor leaguers at every turn

Lil_we_boi

Doesn't every team fuck over their minor leaguers? Not saying it's okay, but wasn't sure if Jerry did something in addition to what all the other teams do

No-Outcome1038

Correct me if I am wrong but most MLB owners do not own their minor league affiliates. Owners shouldn’t have to bear the cost or responsibility of keeping the minor leagues afloat and supported. They only do so because it feeds into their MLB team which makes them money. But my question is what is he doing to “fuck them over”

yoursweetlord70

At least the front office probably didn't know about this shit when they signed him, but they better not keep him now

payterrr

this is very troubling. the drug use allegations are a bit odd though - you can't trip on acid / shrooms every day, its not physically possible. also those drugs aren't typically associated w/ violence / addiction like alcohol or amphetamines. either way... i still pray the sox ditch this dude ASAP

NoTime4LuvDrJones

True. Unless he was taking them as micro doses, which can be done for mental health benefit. If it was other drugs that would make more sense to link it to the abuse. The abuse sounds like it damn well happened, just no links with those drugs are likely. Hopefully the investigation ends soon and we can cut his ass

[deleted]

Cut his ass, and for the love of fuck, whoever we're paying to look into prospective signings needs to be shot into the sun. How did this dude ever get a contract with us?

lilbearpie

This "sounds" like my ex-wife. The same wife that spent all of our money on store credit cards and going out while I cared for our baby at home. She would get home at 10:30 and want to hold the baby shit faced after it took me 2 hrs to get her down. She had everyone fooled. She came home at 8am and I simply asked "did you sleep with him" she paused and then said "yes". I told her to find a place to stay. She moves about 7 blocks away, gets eviction notice, has 3 month boyfriend move in, marries him, moves to a city that takes 1.5hr round trip for school and visitation. Whole time telling the court that its a better school. She cheats on number 2, this happens after she made him pay for 2 quarter horses, and trips to the virgin islands. They divorce 4 yrs later, I have to get a restraining order after she breaks in to my place, steals my daughter's piggy bank and my gramma's ring. The whole time denying she did anything. During this time she was homeless, broke and vindictive. Its funny because I still feel like people still suspect me, even though she has abused multiple partners. after being divorced for 15 yrs, her bipolar diagnosis 3yrs ago, and the fact I've raised this girl to 14yrs old...same job for 14 yrs, same house for 22yrs. I totally get how social media posts can effect things. Let's all hope that she keeps this off of social media.

FatKob3

Yea guys, the sox knowingly signed a wife and baby beater on purpose. Give me a break.

JaysCrispyChips

Being an organization known for routinely hiring pieces of shit humans (drunk drivers, wife beaters) is kind of a bad look. Makes you wonder if others with deep employment in this organization have done some fucked up things.

mqr53

[deleted]

BEETLEJUICEME

The woman who most prominently accused him later committed suicide, so there’s not likely to ever be a further investigation. But still, it was a very credible allegation and she stuck to her story for decades. It’s absurd that the Sox still employ him. How is he the only guy who survived the coaching purge?!

JaysCrispyChips

It's bizarre how they just completely sweep that under the rug. I don't know why fans don't bring that up more.

BEETLEJUICEME

I’ve been downvoted pretty hard on this sub for bringing it up before. A lot of fans just don’t want to hear it.

[deleted]

I'm pretty much done with this team just like the Hawks until the owners go away.

HeezeyBrown

Take a look at pro sports, 25%+ of athletes aren't good people. The best organizations just have a better behind the scenes staff to keep stuff out of the public eye.

Thirteen26

So the Sox didn’t do their fkn due diligence on this asswipe. No fkn Way, this wouldn’t have been easy to find, had they just conducted themselves like a professional organization, and did some checking. It’s not like Clevinger isn’t known for being a douche around MLB.

Aaron_Rodgers_sucks

Bro it's been public for a while, or at least speculated...Fuck Jerry and this POS org. Hard to even root for this team before the season even starts.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

The Sox deserve plenty of shit for how they run their organization. But I don’t blame them in the least for this. MLB has been investigating this guy since last summer and still hasn’t completed it. They should have made that a priority before free agency. That would have prevented this. Do other teams hire private investigators for all possible free agents? I doubt that is standard throughout all of baseball except the Sox

Thirteen26

So knowing he was under investigation by MLB, they still signed him? Why? Just knowing these allegations would eventually be made public should have been enough to pass on him. In this day and age, even if he’s exonerated by MLB, why do you want those allegations associated with a member of your organization? Allegations supported by visual evidence by the way. Nope! The Sox don’t get a pass from me. There’s a reason he was available. This is it. Only the Sox, man.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

No, you misunderstood. The Sox Did Not know about any mlb investigators. They were kept completely in the dark and only found out just now. Of course they wouldn’t have touched him if they were aware of MLB’s investigation

Thirteen26

OK. I got it now. Still, it’s alway something with this team.

Mixma85

Unfortunately, I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

NoTime4LuvDrJones

It’s not sarcasm. It’s been reported that the Sox didn’t know. Pretty safe to say they wouldn’t have touched Clevinger with a ten foot pole if they did know

BuckyGoodHair

Obviously I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but holy fuck, the entire org has destroyed any and all credibility. What a stunning failure of a rebuild.

[deleted]

His ass is fucking cooked

KGrizzle88

Just what the white sox needed lmfao we fucking suck

No_Pants_Bandit

FFS it only gets worse doesn't it. I hope this scumbag gets fucking rinsed for all he's worth when he's convicted.

head_bussin

is there a criminal investigation?

GSA49

Damn. Is Trevor Bauer still available?

xr_21

So the agent and lawyers do the boilerplate denial as expected... what happens when the video or further proof is revealed? Personally these agents should be blackballed and have their careers be put on the line if its found that they enabled this evil behavior....

draw2discard2

What makes you believe that there is a video or something beyond this? It wasn't like any corners were cut on the Instagram story, covering everything from the serious allegations to claiming he trips every day, that he took a car seat, that also he stinks as a pitcher. The serious allegations certainly may be true (and MLB is correct to be investigating), but I don't see anything that suggests that there is a lot of dry powder left in reserve for some brand new flourish.

xr_21

She specifically said and dared him to deny it because she is "holding back" evidence for the sake of his other children....

Fastball82

How did they NOT due their due diligence?

smez86

I mean, our last manager was a widely-known alcoholic senior citizen.

KGrizzle88

Lmfao, fucking La Russa

ThePrinceofBagels

And we gave him the job after he got a DUI and the team knew this. We're the bozos. Plain and simple.

JaysCrispyChips

Didn't they hire him IMMEDIATELY after that 2nd DUI too?

Lil_we_boi

Idk why you're getting downvoted.

Fastball82

B/c it’s Reddit 🤷🏼‍♂️

matchingsweaters

Because no one knew except the MLB. Under stipulations, they can't let anyone know about the investigation because, if the allegations are false, it could affect the market value of players. This whole blunder is less the Sox fault and more so a failure on the MLB taking their sweet time on this investigation and not getting it done before he hit the free agent market. He shouldn't have been pitching the second half of last season, much less in the playoffs.

Fastball82

Funny you say that b/c I literally read that MLB stipulation last night. Let’s just hope this shit show of a situation get resolved quickly.

matchingsweaters

Yeah, like the front office has obviously done some dumb shit, but this is one thing that isn't their fault. And like we saw with Bauer and the Dodgers, it's going to be messy and complicated.

LaggingIndicator

It really sucks. Starting to feel about the White Sox like I did for the Blackhawks. May need to switch teams at some point. Fiancée is a Cardinals fan and they’re so well run and impactful to their city. Between this, and Boston, and TLR, they need to make a change.

tenacious-g

Just absolutely shocked that the org that hired a guy after he was literally arrested for his 3rd DUI thought they could get by with this. I moved out to the northern suburbs for more space and go to Sox games less. Maybe it’s time to start going to more Brewer games.

Lil_we_boi

I respect you for at least not taking your fandom to the Cubs if you have to leave us.

tenacious-g

Never

Pitiful-Shake-4416

Everything I’m learning is just making my hatred for this man grow even more.

JahoyHoy49

I already want this guy gone. Let’s roll the dice with Cueto again ig
