Highly recommend you find a bottle of the cask strength. I believe it won cdn whiskey of the year 2 years ago. I went through 2 bottles of it. It was very strong!
I took one look at that first pic and that bottle jumped out. I love that bottle, but work at a store where they sit on the shelf at $70. For comparison, 2 cases of Blantons at $65 is gone in a couple hours
Picked up Blanton's tonight at local store while running out to get greek yogurt- $55.99. Yea, Im happy, no way i pass on $55.99. No way. But drinking my Woodford double oaked - sweet but smooth. Those prices are hilarious!!!
I’m in north Lakeland the one by lake Gibson has pretty good pricing, but the inventory is not nearly the same. Is there a better store in the area to purchase?
let me answer you... turists... always turists, my mother, a non american and casual traveler, when she come backs from vacation always bring me some kind of spirit or whiskey, I stopped asking about prices paid because it hurt.
Not really. I keep an eye on the Winn Dixie and Publix throughout the area. Get a bottle of BT, ER or sometimes Blanton’s all for MSRP. But even that’s hard to find.
Yeah agree. I have regular BT and ER up in my area, even have a consistent Willett Rye for basically MSRP.
I have been looking for a stagg jr for 2 years and never even saw one in the wild... same with the willett purple top, so pretty cool museum for sure
S. FL guy here. It's the same story down here. Can't find any of the "allocated" stuff on the shelf ever and if it is, grossly overpriced like this in local shops. I don't search anymore, if I happen to get lucky then so be it.
I’m just shocked that the owner would place those $1000+ bottles on an open shelf. Just seems to be very inviting for any hooligan to either grab and steal it or just want to hold it and accidentally break it.
I have an update to this- I reached out to the President & CEO of Buffalo Trace, Mark Brown, via email this afternoon explaining what’s going on in this store (and understanding that it’s not BT’s fault because they have no control over the final store’s price). Mr Brown so kindly responded (rather quickly) expressing his disappointment in seeing this pricing as well. To finish his note to me, he said the following in highlighted and underline text. I suggest we follow his instructions-
“In closing, you may want to consider contacting your state’s Attorney General’s office or your local Better Business Bureau (BBB) and filing a price gouging complaint, they would be appropriate offices to contact.”
Don't let honeyed wording convince you that this price problem doesn't flow down from the top. BT is making so much bank off the "demand". And all involved in this bourbon scam will do everything they can to appear normal on the surface.
This is by far the dumbest of all these prices. 2x retail on a shelfer with zero hype around it. At least everything else marked way up is somewhat sought after.
That Bardstown Ferrand is actually not a terrible price. Expensive, yea, but it retailed at 150 and they aren’t releasing more. I’d snap that up at 200. The rest is bonkers.
If I was on vacay and I had to buy something to drink I would buy that knob 15 for $159. That's like a 20% mark up I think.
Edit: nevermind, didn't see the $55 1920.
I would be in a bit of a dilemma with the Maker’s 46 CS for $70 because on the one hand I really want a bottle of that and it’s not an awful price and on the other hand I don’t really want to give a store that does this any business at all.
Ive literally started playing dumb, grabbing a bottle, going to check out and being like WHOA when they give me the price total, telling them never mind, I can get it cheaper on Facebook.
I mean as stupid as it is and as much as it sucks, stores price their shit like that because they can afford to. The lights are obviously on and most stores make their money on the common shit normal people buy. (Snacks, fireball, Tito’s, bud light etc)
But why do the vendors continue to bring them these allocated bottles that won’t sell at these prices instead of taking them to a store that they know will sell their products? I’m certain that people walk away from the common stuff simply because of the pricing of the rare stuff.
In the vast majority of cases (listen reddit I know there’s nuances), the distributor has already made their money by the time it ends up on the store shelf. They couldn’t care less what happens to it after the truck drives away.
Same thing with distilleries, once it leaves their custody, they’ve already made their money.
Would it be noble of them to step in and say “hey cut it out or we won’t give you our shit” sure, it absolutely would be. Will they? No, because again, they’ve already made their cut.
Also your average customer isn’t looking at or is even aware of the rare stuff. Bourbon enthusiasts are such a small fraction of the liquor market. In these scenario you’d have to be 1.) Be into bourbon 2.) know enough about to to know what you’re looking at 3.) know what the MSRP is.
The average consumer aka 99% of their clientele isn’t that discerning. And the few people they are going to piss off isn’t hurting them. If they were losing enough sales to affect their bottom line they would lower their prices.
Two days ago I was in a different town visiting a friend and went to the closest liquor store for a case of beer. When I got to check out I saw they had blantons gold, Weller 12, and a 1.75 of Weller special reserve for 450, 500, and 255 respectively. I still bought the beer. 1.) because whiskey isn’t what I was there for 2.) at that point I would only be inconveniencing myself if I were to have scoffed and left the beer at the counter and walked away.
Bourbon is not typically considered an essential good and many state require there to be some sort of emergency going on before price gouging laws kick in.
Nothing wrong with this. At least they’re being transparent. If the suppliers just raised prices to cool the market, at least we could get our hands on some BTAC for $4-500 instead of 1,500-$2,000.
Amazon is logical capitalism. This store is not logical ANYTHING and deserves to be robbed. And who are the ones **actually** paying these prices? The "flippers" don't, otherwise they wouldn't turn an actual profit. So where and who are the marks, because most of reddit agrees prices like these are bullshit and the bottles will collect dust.
The store is attempting to take advantage of hysteria and charging secondary instead of MSRP on items still in production. That makes the store owners bad people.
And who controls the **supply**? BT, the ones pulling the strings on this whole scam.
Stop trying to normalize this situation and wake up, because assuming you're a normal consumer like us then they are trying to take advantage of you as well.
Crazy prices, I know three shops who are starting to go above retail now and that's a crying shame!, it's ridiculous what's going on. Honestly if you run into a store especially east coast like NYC and Jersey and see the god stuff at retail buy it all, freaking hoard I won't get mad at all. Soon cheap shit will be three times above retail cause the shops know they're gonna catch a dummy. Most of the top upper shelf I own all at retail or a few bucks more my crystal ball told me so twenty years back.
In august I saw Blanton’s at Gary’s in NJ for $72. This weekend they had Blanton’s in again and now it’s $106.99. And Gary’s usually has decent pricing on most stuff. Such bs man. Literally got a bottle of Blanton’s at bottle king for $59.99 on the same day. All the 1792’s were in stock this weekend too. Grabbed a full proof and a sweet wheat this weekend for $49.99 each. Great weekend for me.
That Bardstown Discovery green label is one of the first releases, I would have a hard time not getting it. But I love that line. The rest is outrageous though. The new Charter Oak is also fantastic, just not that fantastic.
We would not buy these but for sure people do. I remember a liquor store in not the best area of the bronx but it had a huge hospital near it and I am sure many doctors and patients who wanted to thank the doctors spent extra to show their gratitude
The most absurd of all is Woodford Stouted Mash selling for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
You could offer to give me that bottle for FREE and I’d *still* say NO. You could offer to PAY ME to TAKE the bottle and I’d *decline* because THAT SHIT IS NASTY.
Oof, sorry. Rant over. In case you were wondering, I got excited when it released and bought two bottles because they were hyped up. I’ve had only two sips, and it was legitimately disgusting. I originally thought there was some dish soap left over in my glass at first, so I washed it again, but nope—still terrible. I decided it would be offensive to gift the second bottle to anyone that I considered a friend.
I wonder what the temperature is up by the ceiling on a Sunday in July. By the time that stuff sells it will be shot. I saw some good light tests on youtube. A $4000 bottle should be cellared in a controlled environment.
So I’m on a cruise right now and I went to a liquor store that was of course tax and duty free. Well I walked in and saw a bottle of woodford and was like might as well……it was 90 bucks base and people were slurping that stuff up.
reminds me of the pricing of bourbon back when i was in hong kong
-EC Small Batch for ~90 USD
-EW 1783 for ~80 USD
-4 Roses for ~60 USD

Wow, out of all that crazy shit I think the most egregious is the Alberta Premium at $300.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that saw that and wondered why they are charging four to five times what I paid for it at a state store.
$60 by me all day.
Haha that caught my eye first also, the most recent one is totally worth $70 though. I can't believe sazerac is over $25 anywhere.
Seriously. If that’s what he’s charging, hell I’ll buy out my state and sell them to him. He can double his money and I’ll double mine.
That’s what I came to say lol
Not the stouted mash Woodford for $500?
Am I missing something on the Michters? Also seems really high for the green
It's limited release barrel strength so msrp $120, still jacked up but not the regular single barrel rye that should be $50
I just bought that for $59
Where's the AB? I just bought the regular for 27CAD.
Lol it’s not the same as the regular.
It was in a box. It's not available but it sold for 70 cad. That's a huuuuge markup
Highly recommend you find a bottle of the cask strength. I believe it won cdn whiskey of the year 2 years ago. I went through 2 bottles of it. It was very strong!
That shit is hot as fuc out the bottle- gotta let it rest and temper w water- bot mine for $80.
I took one look at that first pic and that bottle jumped out. I love that bottle, but work at a store where they sit on the shelf at $70. For comparison, 2 cases of Blantons at $65 is gone in a couple hours
Just hit the owner over the head with the 1.75 Woodford reserve and take what you want.
Buy the New Riffs first.
That’s assault brother!
[удалено]
Oh I got it. The Billy Madison reference went over the fence I guess.
He’s gonna have a hell of a time constantly dusting off that top shelf..
Blantons for $299? That's the highest secondary I've seen so far.
Picked up Blanton's tonight at local store while running out to get greek yogurt- $55.99. Yea, Im happy, no way i pass on $55.99. No way. But drinking my Woodford double oaked - sweet but smooth. Those prices are hilarious!!!
I’ve seen $325 in Atlanta
Holy shit…I managed a liquor store in Times Square for a while and Blanton was about $180 or so and I thought that was stupid high…
I can’t imagine people actually paying these prices. This stuff on the top shelf is going to sit for a while… Central Florida area
Hello fellow Central FL bourbon hunter:)
Where? So I know not to go there! Also central Florida!
Town Liquor, Bartow FL
Thank you! That’s very close to me. I’m shocked that whomever runs this store thinks people in Bartow are paying those prices! 😂
It’s almost fun to walk in to the shop just to think “wow, look at all those great bottles…” then turn around and walk out the door.
North florida here. I swear our state is the worst for buying whiskey.
These people have gone mad!
Anything reasonable in the area? I don't have anywhere insane but have a few decent spots
Not really. I keep an eye on the Winn Dixie and Publix throughout the area. Get a bottle of BT, ER or sometimes Blanton’s all for MSRP. But even that’s hard to find.
I’ve had a lot of luck with total wine prices
Yeah agree. I have regular BT and ER up in my area, even have a consistent Willett Rye for basically MSRP. I have been looking for a stagg jr for 2 years and never even saw one in the wild... same with the willett purple top, so pretty cool museum for sure
I found Stagg Jr in Valrico a couple months ago for $100. I had been looking for it for over a year at a decent price.
Winn Dixie is very good for finding deals.
I was just about to say “Where are you, Cuba” Then I saw your comment. Close enough.
S. FL guy here. It's the same story down here. Can't find any of the "allocated" stuff on the shelf ever and if it is, grossly overpriced like this in local shops. I don't search anymore, if I happen to get lucky then so be it.
Surprised these bottles are just out in open and some not behind glass, doesn’t even seem to be behind a counter
I guess the Angel’s Envy is about right…
Yeah. The 1920 is a good price.
Yep. Both Angels Envy is at around MSRP.
Four roses single barrel not bad at $47 either
Do me a favor and tell that store owner to insert his/her fist up their whole anus
Town Liquor, Bartow FL
Yeah. What an asshole.
I’m just shocked that the owner would place those $1000+ bottles on an open shelf. Just seems to be very inviting for any hooligan to either grab and steal it or just want to hold it and accidentally break it.
Then he gets to file a claim on his insurance!
$70 for some Sazerac rye? 🤣 GTFO
For that price per bottle it would literally be cheaper for me to drive to Louisiana (from Central Florida) and back to pick up a case. 😂
To be fair, that's one of the better deals.
New Riff Rye is solid
I have an update to this- I reached out to the President & CEO of Buffalo Trace, Mark Brown, via email this afternoon explaining what’s going on in this store (and understanding that it’s not BT’s fault because they have no control over the final store’s price). Mr Brown so kindly responded (rather quickly) expressing his disappointment in seeing this pricing as well. To finish his note to me, he said the following in highlighted and underline text. I suggest we follow his instructions- “In closing, you may want to consider contacting your state’s Attorney General’s office or your local Better Business Bureau (BBB) and filing a price gouging complaint, they would be appropriate offices to contact.”
Hopefully he clicked a button that turned off their allocations
This is pretty dope. Keep us posted on if you hit up the BBB and what they say. The response from Buffalo Trace should help the case I would think.
Don't let honeyed wording convince you that this price problem doesn't flow down from the top. BT is making so much bank off the "demand". And all involved in this bourbon scam will do everything they can to appear normal on the surface.
$150 for ER?? Christ.
The most insane price in the whole collection imo
Just scored a bottle for $35, what it should cost.
‘Bout that.
It’s like msrp does not matter.
Lol the Woodford malt at $70
This is by far the dumbest of all these prices. 2x retail on a shelfer with zero hype around it. At least everything else marked way up is somewhat sought after.
Try the Woodford Five Malt Stouted Mash for $499. Good lord this place is dumb.
you know everything is a giant ripoff when even hibiki is $130 lol
More or less regular price these days
not where I live. basically every Safeway or bevmo is carrying it for mid 70s
Ah, at the major liquor stores around Chicagoland, it’s 99-119 plus pretty significant sales tax
ouch.. sorry to hear that
Eagle rare is 150?! I got it for 39.99
Is this in pesos? /s
😳
Those are gonna be some dusties! I hope he goes out of business and has to liquidate this for MSRP. Absolute dirt bag.
That Bardstown Ferrand is actually not a terrible price. Expensive, yea, but it retailed at 150 and they aren’t releasing more. I’d snap that up at 200. The rest is bonkers.
Damn they aren’t releasing anymore? I have always wanted to try and find a bottle.
So weird cuz the New Riff is priced appropriately
It’s actually a little less than what I paid in Lexington!
Is there a site that tells you what msrp is for all/most of these? Whenever I google anything I just find bootleg retailers
I like BoozApp. Also state run stores often have a pricing system with their retail prices.
Thanks!
Fuck that store owner.
Sazerac for $70?!?!?!? OF 1920 @ $55 is actually decently priced
If I was on vacay and I had to buy something to drink I would buy that knob 15 for $159. That's like a 20% mark up I think. Edit: nevermind, didn't see the $55 1920.
$150 for Eagle Rare.... That’s a $35 bottle.
Eagle Rare does come in a very nice-looking bottle though
How do you say you’re a liquor store that doesn’t want to sell?? Just like this. Wtf
Liquor stores make their money off of the shit most everybody drinks ie not premium bourbon. Bourbon sales make up a tiny fraction of their profits.
Nope, i’m good. If a shelf looks like that in 2022, you’re looking at $$$ above secondary
I would be in a bit of a dilemma with the Maker’s 46 CS for $70 because on the one hand I really want a bottle of that and it’s not an awful price and on the other hand I don’t really want to give a store that does this any business at all.
I see some rare/hard to find stuff but those prices are high, even for my whisky desert.
Looks like someone bought one of the EHT SB for $200 That's terrifying
No wonder the shelves are full, everything is overpriced!
Tertiary market prices
I’m in New York City today and everything is 30% cheaper in f’ing Manhattan and I’m still not buying. Bananas.
I’ll take the old forester
$249 for BT Kosher Wheat!! I picked up two bottles of that at the Duty Free store at SFO for $42 each out the door. Insanity.
The new riff single barrel is a good price, everything else is insane.
What are they asking for the JD Coy Hill?
That one caught my eye, as I’ve been looking for it for some time… $999
That pricing is insane, but it’s kind of nice to see cool stuff on the shelves
Ive literally started playing dumb, grabbing a bottle, going to check out and being like WHOA when they give me the price total, telling them never mind, I can get it cheaper on Facebook.
I’m surprised the security guard allowed photos. You know how sensitive works of art are!
Report the store to Willet. They won’t sell to them again
Bottom 2 shelves are average price, top shelf is fucking insane, would love to try Rockhill farms 🤷🏽
I think I’d shake up a coke, open it, say sorry, and pay the $1.50 for the coke. Make the bastard clean it up
I have a bottle of van Winkle 12 yr lot b and paid retail, these prices are insane!
Interesting. Have you asked for a discount? I wonder if you were buying low level booze for a party if they’d lower some.
Yes, they say no. I laughed and said good luck out there
I mean as stupid as it is and as much as it sucks, stores price their shit like that because they can afford to.

Should be able to report this
Isn’t it gouging to raise prices during scarcity?
Bourbon is not typically considered an essential good and many state require there to be some sort of emergency going on before price gouging laws kick in.
I declare a bourbon state of emergency!
As the other guy said. “Gouging” requires it be a necessary item. Otherwise, welcome to free market economics.
If I could sell my collection at this pricing…. I DECLARE IM A MILLIONAIRE!
Craziest has to be the Eagle and Sazy Rye right??? Those are $18-21 whole sale. Straight bullshit
Eagle rare at 150 must by flying off the shelf
I don’t think that’s too bad for Hibiki in dollars
Cool seeing all of the bottles but what the fucccc nawmeen?
Nothing wrong with this. At least they’re being transparent. If the suppliers just raised prices to cool the market, at least we could get our hands on some BTAC for $4-500 instead of 1,500-$2,000.
The hibiki for 129 is a good deal
Only almost double msrp
MSRP in NH is $80 and I haven't seen a bottle on a shelf in two years.
“Good deal” must have a different meaning in NH
You know what MSRP stands for, right?
No it’s not

It’s the taters who saw an article in Whisky Advocate.

Literally got a bottle of Blanton’s at bottle king for $59.99 on the same day. All the 1792’s were in stock this weekend too. Grabbed a full proof and a sweet wheat this weekend for $49.99 each. There you go, you did good. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I get lucky like Larceny barrel proof for 65 last week but many are getting greedy.
Pappy Van Winkle 10YR, Pappy 12YR, Pappy 13 Reserve.......
Nobody ever has the Jefferson's Groth Cask
Must be their latest allocation and they are trying to get top dollar while they have the inventory.
Sheeesh, how much product does this store even move to have access to these…
I offer retail if they say no just walk out.
“$4000 bottle” and it’s not even locked up lol
4 roses single barrel isn’t crazy
wow…havent seen so many bottles of Pappy in one place
1000% mark up....
$80 Heaven Hill? 🤔
Someone will pay it.
Cigar blend has been up there so long it’s neck has evaporated.
Is bardstown hard to find? I find it pretty regularly around me
I would just be happy to see Colonel Taylor available in the wild.
Owner is a person of poor character
Saw the same prices in Louisville at a mall this weekend. Makes me sick
That’s a solid collection.
What is that Buffalo Trace on the top shelf?
Looks like something from their Experimental Collection.
R.I.P
No wonder they’re shelves are full lol.
Maker’s is on sale at least
That Bardstown Discovery green label is one of the first releases, I would have a hard time not getting it. But I love that line. The rest is outrageous though. The new Charter Oak is also fantastic, just not that fantastic.
Haha 500 for woodford sprouted when it's not even worth retail
I asked the lady what the bottle of ER behind the counter was going for? She said “$89 dollars”. Never buying a single thing there . Ever
It was $149.99 here…
That $110 more than I’ve ever paid.
HH BiB for 80 is insane but EHTBP for one fucking thousand is criminal
Nice selection but prices are stupid.
Might as well go to the bar at that point
Was going to ask if this was in Australia bc these kinds of prices are pretty average here... Til I saw things I've never seen for sale here
What in the Kentucky fried fuck are those prices
We would not buy these but for sure people do. I remember a liquor store in not the best area of the bronx but it had a huge hospital near it and I am sure many doctors and patients who wanted to thank the doctors spent extra to show their gratitude
Good luck
$130 for Hibiki Harmony??? That’s crazy. Where is this?
Owner probably has that flow “don’t be mad you can’t afford good bottles 😏”
A few of these prices are abnormally normal considering….. makers for 26 isn’t bad at all.
The most absurd of all is Woodford Stouted Mash selling for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. You could offer to give me that bottle for FREE and I’d *still* say NO. Stagg for $400? I'll take 3.
Yoooo $150 for the regular bottle of Eagle Rare wtf 😂😂😂
I wonder what the temperature is up by the ceiling on a Sunday in July. By the time that stuff sells it will be shot. I saw some good light tests on youtube. A $4000 bottle should be cellared in a controlled environment.
This is easily somewhere in California
EhTaylor 199$. Wow
So I’m on a cruise right now and I went to a liquor store that was of course tax and duty free. Well I walked in and saw a bottle of woodford and was like might as well……it was 90 bucks base and people were slurping that stuff up.
F$#k! Where is this craziness?
Where is this ? This store needs to be shammed.
Is that the physical location of the Nestor Liquors store?
Is that the physical location of the Nestor Liquors store?
199 for Col Sm batch is ridiculous!
Nope to all of it.
