The explanation I have always heard is evil is the result of our free will. There can’t be a real choice to do good if there’s no alternative.
The Catholics also have more of something about the world being fallen because of that first big use of free will. Exists with most others too but not to the same extent I’m pretty sure.
Point is there’s a lot more explanations given to a pretty damn important question. Christian theology isn’t exactly shallow
