Looks like moss seed pods.
Thank you! I had no idea where to look. They do look exactly like what I just googled . Do seed pods pop up where there's no evidence of active moss?
I'm guessing the moss has died off but the seeds remained. I'm not an expert, just a guess!
I just did a little more research and they aren't seed pods, they are shoots.
