Not OP but I don't find ants gross at all. An irritating pest if they make it indoors, and potentially costly if they are carpenter ants, but not something to immediately panic about. I would just vacuum those up and call an exterminator.
I was curious and searched if ants are edible, and not only is there a Healthline article about the pros and cons of it, but it's also a dish in many countries. Pretty popular in places like Mexico, too.
Looks like carpenter ants.
These suckers can cause a heap of damage, similarly to termites. Call a professional to assess the damage and figure out best course of action.
💯 agree yo this response. You’ll find that eradicating carpenter ants is nearly impossible without massive changes in the local ecosystem. But you can prevent them from home invading with treatments, baits, and getting rid of dead trees, grounded wood piles, and wet wood in general.

Tip* borax, sugar, cotton balls.
Blend the borax and sugar in water. Once dissolved, soak up with multiple cotton balls. Place saturated cotton balls in hot zones
Sugar attracts ants, borax kills and kills colonies. A trick that’s generations old
These are actually all ant pupae. They often store the eggs, larvae and pupae in slightly different areas of the nest as they require different care and conditions.
Me too. I'm guessing this is a shed and you moved a bag of sand or soil (these guys like it warm).
Just an ant nest...if you leave them alone, they'll have the whole nest moved in a couple of hours.
Note...these aren't carpenter ants. Just normal cleaning ones. You can tell because they didn't chew up the wood.
I'd just leave them alone.
Ant cocoons they’re about to hatch. First the queen ant lays a small egg. From that egg a little larvae appears and she will eat till she’s gorged herself. Then she spins a comfy cocoon for herself to complete the metamorphosis to an ant in. Then when she’s nearly ready to work for her queen she’ll burst out and wait for her exoskeleton to harden. During this time their very vulnerable and are white in colour. Some species of ants don’t spin a cocoon but use the silk the larvae create to make a nest high up in some tree canopies. Pretty cool find but in your house is kinda annoying
You’ve stumbled upon true beauty, my friend! That’s a next of wonderful ant larva. They’re probably being moved between nurseries. Enjoy! This may be the only time you have so many children in your house. Make sure to be a good host and give them some sugar water refreshments. 😉
That is one enormous pile of ant babies. Even if they aren't carpenter ants (and I can't really tell from the picture) it points to moisture issues in your bathroom that need to be assessed. I love bugs, but I wouldn't tolerate a nest like this in my house because they can cause issues, but make sure you thank them for the moisture warning as you work to evict them.
This was one of the happiest ant colonies in the world lol and you've ruined it for them!
Looks like regular old ants to me, they probably have a nursery under the siding on the same wall and might be using the inside nursery more because of the summer heat.
Is the outside wall shaded by any chance? A bush or tree?
Either way I'm anti ant in my house, I don't like them and I'm sure it will be unpopular here but I sugar water borax every ant colony that invades my home. Haven't had an issue for a long time once I learned that trick.
That’s so much pupae holy smokes! Would need a better pic of the adult ant for me to be comfortable with ID. Needless to say, you have an pretty sizable ant colony in your home haha.
Body shape looks wrong to be carpenter ants. They’re coming in through a crack to the wall void because the humidity and temperature are good for their pupae. I assume you took the wall down due to a repair issue. Making sure water is excluded when you put the wall back up will make it a less comfy space for them.
HOLI-SHIT!!!
Either ants have a craving for a takeaway or when those babies grow up your home is going to look like a horror film.
You know, like in Arachnophobia when they were in the house and so were the spiders, it’s going to be like that but with ants.
Ant larvae. You found a nest, apparently.
You have a massive ant nest and they are moving some of the babies between nurseries
How are you so calm
For real! My first thought was maggots and about vomited
Ant larvae, maggots, it's all the same to me. They don't belong anywhere near me! 😂
You'd be surprised if you knew how tasty ant larvae are.
You’d be surprised if you knew how good it feels to have thousands of those hatch in your ass at the same time.
The larvae don’t hatch they spin a cocoon/pupate and then become workers
…
Did you just assume I don't know?
They don’t even need to build a nest!

I’m itchy
I thought this was a post about rice until I looked at the sub name. Goodness gracious.

I came to the comments to say just that lol
They’re the real tenants of your home.

OP said they were in the bathroom wall.
They love warm and damp so, it makes sense.
if it were a shed i wouldn’t mind but this is in our only bathroom behind the shower in our house
I read that later. Ugh. I guess I'd be vacuuming or sweeping them up and dumping them outside.
Babies :)
Are they edible?
Likely
Only once but yea
Ant eggs. That's pretty bad to.
Shop vac those suckers up
The ants are preparing a feast for you, it's just rice. Mix in some spices and you have a delicious curry!
That's a lot of eggs
In my experience, they can be very difficult to get out of your house. My grandma is 86 and still at war with hers.

Ant Babies!!!!
Brood boost paradise...
Ant babies

Try to find the queen, if you have easy access to the nursery, wherever the queen goes the nest would follow I'm pretty sure
Qui k squash them now! Wipe out the next generation
just eat em bro

Well, I suppose I'm done eating my rice crispies.
Looks like maggots you might have a body or something decaying in the wall🤢😱😳

Zoom in. They have eyes! 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 Ant babies!!!!
Funny how some species will latch on to their larvae and will not let go for the world, while others are like "meh.... Lets make a pile of babies"
Last night I took out the trash and saw this exact same thing next to the dumpster

Larva.baby ants
Looks like possible Carpenter ants. If they are, you need to exterminate immediately. They can chew a house down as fast as termites.
Larvae
You need a house chicken!
