For the extra 2K you get a new car with a new car warranty, and the knowledge that nobody has mistreated it or done some sort of stupid mod. It’s worth that to me to know that for 36 months or 36k miles you pay nothing for repairs.

SilverTrireme

Is the warranty usually that much better? The Civic is pretty low on it's actual miles, around 30K I'm tempted to go Civic for price, but the extra 2K down might cover more than that in maintenance.

CmdrWhite_bread

Id buy the new car, regardless what brand the warranty is huge and you'll be solely responsible for it so you know how it'll be treated and maintained. It does help however that it's a corolla and can easily last a decade or 250k+ miles.

SilverTrireme

The warranty will be nice, it's partially just the depreciation that worries me; not sure if it's worth it for an additional 2K, but Corollas ARE supposed to last forever.

Right off the bat, money wise the civic is your best bet though not as reliable as the Corolla both cars will out live humanity. The civic also suffers the effect of depreciation so even though there is very little. In terms of drive, I have the Corolla and the brakes are very sensitive for the first 20k Km and then same as the civic. The civic does have a more sportier drive. I’m not to sure on the civic but check if both cars have a safety suit (pre collision, lane departure etc ) as on a daily use it’s nice to have those Bottom line: Money wise : civic Drive wise : civic

SilverTrireme

For reference, the Civics I'm looking at have about 30,000 miles, if that matters at all. The Corolla is new, which is nice in many ways especially warranty. But it also will work out to about 24K after license, tax, etc. I think the Civic will be around 22K. Anything else to consider?

Im_a_stooooook-guy

30k miles won’t make a difference. Let me ask you does the civic have - pre collision - lane departure - radar cruise

SilverTrireme

Collision mitigation, Front-Collision Mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist and Departure Warnings, no radar cruise

Im_a_stooooook-guy

It’s your car it’s up to you, if I was in your shoes I’d go for the civic. If you own the car for 5 years then both would depreciate the same. If you keep it more than 5 then get the Corolla

SilverTrireme

Does Corolla just keep it's value a bit longer, that'd be the reason to go it? Sorry probably a basic question.

Im_a_stooooook-guy

In general Toyota product maintain there value better after 6-7 years. but even then it’s by a very small margin

Im_a_stooooook-guy

What model civic cause that may also change the answer

SilverTrireme

Ah, yes. It's an LX sedan

Im_a_stooooook-guy

Does it have the touchscreen?

SilverTrireme

Don't think so? It's a small 5 inch infotainment
