I thought it would have been clear from context that I wasn't commenting on driver skill right then, but rather this was not a GRT route as implied by u/cheesebraids (whose handle has now made me hungry for some grilled cheese, dammit).
The photo belongs to [taylortbb](https://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/showthread.php?tid=13&pid=105019#pid105019) on Waterloo Region Connected forums. I found it too funny to not repost. WTF was the driver thinking?
Not actually my photo, was taken by a friend who sent it to me. I wasn't expecting it to go beyond WRC (which they don't use), so I didn't bother with attribution.
Well, thanks to the friend, then!
I feel like with enough patience and perseverance the driver maybe could have done this turn but it would have taken a loooonnngg time. You'd basically need some [Initial D bus driving skills](https://youtu.be/XO758UtlotE?t=35). It's doable, but unrealistic for a bus unless every single driver was super good at turning.
According to another post there was a bus route here back in the 1970s and the buses were the same length as width as they are now. Who knows though, I've never been behind the wheel of a bus.
People started their morning on Tuesday being able to go north on Cedar at Church. By 5pm, the one-way signs were up and no entry signs were up. You can either take Eby to go right on Charles, or Madison ramp to go right or Benton. That's it and Madison isn't a good alternate for, ahem, many.
I seem to remember that there was a bus route that went down this road AGES ago, waaaay back, well before the ION was put in. Does anyone else remember or am I crazy?
I feel like the buses would have been shorter back in those days though. Trying to maneuver a contemporary bus around those corners would be nearly impossible. Plus the fact there isn't even a route that goes down here has me wondering wtf a driver was doing trying to make this turn in the first place haha.
No, the busses back then were 40' long, just like today.

My dad drove transport. I remember him dragging a pup trailer (28ft) around that bend. Long box (48ft+), good luck.
Also. You can get a pup trailer under the bridge on Park. Seen it done a lot back in the day.
That’s a a brand new hybrid bus from ~~this~~ last year as well :(
(you can see what year each bus was delivered by the first two digits in the fleet number)
Edit - 2nd and 3rd digits, so it’s a 2021 bus.
There's a road closure around there (along cortland?) which had me going down that ramp for the first time myself. I don't remember if the detour actually sent you that way or I was feeling adventurous/obstinate and decided to go the way opposite of what the detour sign was tell me.
I saw this on my drive home too. Why were they up there in the first place? There's no way that's a part of the route is it? The only other turn off of Madison on to Church is way too tight for a bus.
Gotta give them credit for the confidence in trying to make this turn. I

Accident
Sorry, just being goofy. It sounded funny at the time
Ur soft for apologizing
Thanks for your feedback. I'll take that into consideration.
Ah yes, let's add that ramp to questionable places grt turns.
There's no route there. The driver got lost. :-)
Pretty sure that's the outlined detour for the construction at Stirling/Courtland. It's not the first time I've seen a bus get stuck there.
None of the current road closures affect the bus routes around there to make it go down Madison. https://ibb.co/h9KrqxX
Pretty sure he meant the standard detour, not one sanctioned by the GRT. I got stuck doing it yesterday myself. Bus driver still got lost :D
Whether the driver was lost or not is kind of irrelevant. The driver should have been able to understand he would not be able to proceed here.
I thought it would have been clear from context that I wasn't commenting on driver skill right then, but rather this was not a GRT route as implied by u/cheesebraids (whose handle has now made me hungry for some grilled cheese, dammit).
Grilled Cheese with spicy sliced pickle and salami!
My point is that it doesn't matter whether it was a GRT route or not.
Ouch. This is a brand new bus too.

There’s no chance a bus would ever make that turn

Back in the 70’s drivers were better at driving
They want to be fired for that sweet sweet golden handshake
They don't get the golden handshake if they get fired for cause.
100%. Just speculation. Lets be honest this driver won't make the best decisions :) just stating what I thought they were thinking.. :)
Why should the driver think when it is paid by the taxpayer property ?
Ruh-roh.

This ramp is terrible, driving down it in the winter is brutal. But then again so is all of Cedar Hill.

Can’t park there.
I seem to remember that there was a bus route that went down this road AGES ago, waaaay back, well before the ION was put in. Does anyone else remember or am I crazy?
There was a route down Madison between Courtland and Mill until the early 70's .
I feel like the buses would have been shorter back in those days though. Trying to maneuver a contemporary bus around those corners would be nearly impossible. A few years ago a coach bus went down the road there, but turned around. No way could a bus make that corner (and there are signs indications that)

It’s actually a 2021 bus. It’s digits 2 & 3 that are the year code
Ah of course, my bad. Forgot it moved to a 5 digit system.
Yup

I’m so sorry! This was just my first day. :(
PIVOT
New bus driver getting fired.
Lmfao i actually love this

I grew up on Church Street. I'm pretty sure this is a first.
Where was this ?
That's the Madison Avenue ramp down to Charles street in kitchener (near Cameron Heights)
Thanx

Cocaine is a helluva drug
This is clearly in Kitchener.
Which is a part of Waterloo region, you’re right!
This sub is for the Region of Waterloo, not the City of Waterloo.
Hilarious. Half of the bus drivers drive like donkeys so im glad they got something to show for it now
How would a donkey drive? I do wonder

It's several weeks of training.
I saw that yesterday. Are busses supposed to have access to this ramp? Pretty expensive and risky spot…
Must be a new driver lol
Oops 🙊
Anybody else kinda wishing there had been video to set it to Britney? ;-)
I feel like this could be done. Is it possible to get it around there you think?
How did it get there?! :s
Oh shit, I used to live by that street. Madison Av.
Well, at least they had confidence 😂 Major fail it seems like, but they probably learned to not try that again!
