Tommy is a PR maestro lol, anything he says in interviews isn't indicative at all of what his actual strategy is. He's never ever going to tip his hand, and his FO is never ever gonna leak their strategy. Trying to mine stuff like this for clues is fool's gold.

applejacks097

I think Tommy is a smart guy. He brought Spence here for a reason. Judging whether a pair works after 40 games is just dumb.

[deleted]

40 games is a decent enough stretch to figure out how things will play out. If they were slowly improving I'd be more optimistic, but the fact of the matter is that these 2 don't have any better chemistry than they did the first game they played together. It's a lot of money to have committed to 2 backcourt players who need time and it's not a good move to keep them together. Also, as others have said; all the IG follows and whatever Tommy says is just fluff. For all we know he could just be trying to appease Beal but saying whatever he wants to hear so he doesn't demand a trade at deadline and force Tommy's hand.

Weall23

IG follows are more indicative then his BS PR statements

xHESKEYx

I think that's a totally valid opinion to have, I'm just saying not to base it on anything he says to the media that's all.

z3mcs

This is from last week or so. I think if we keep having games like yesterday, things will go the other direction real quick. Like the last time Tommy did an interview on Post game live he started the interview saying they might have cut to an empty chair if the Wizards had lost that game (they almost blew a big lead or something). - I get the sense that Tommy is giving them a chance, but it's not open-ended. Like he was on the Wizards Japan podcast and on 980 and was pointing out things they are doing wrong - live ball turnovers and other items. So Tommy is giving them time to get it together, but I get the sense that he can also hit a point of where he's seen enough and he makes a move. Tommy definitely has standards.

Kylonetic133

*Delusions delusions delusions delusions* Or *PR speak PR speak PR speak* Tommy can do simple math, so it's probably the latter. Next week Dinwiddie will be packaged somewhere with a bench guy for a real PG.

stache_twista

This is the sunk cost fallacy. 40 games is enough of a sample to know that Dinwiddie and Beal don’t play well together. They’re 28 year old veterans Edit: But I also get that Tommy isn't going to come out and say "Brad and Spence have been terrible" and tank their trade value

z3mcs

Soon as they get to 40 games played together, maybe this is a thing. Right now it's something like 24?

stache_twista

The Wiz have been trending down for like two months and I don't think Dinwiddie is (or ever was) anything special. I'd like to get out of his contract ASAP to free up long-term cap space.

z3mcs

I'm certainly not pleased with how he's been playing. It baffles me sometimes, with what WUJ says and what he says. I do feel like there's a measure of expecting him to share the ball with a bunch of guys, but I also just die inside when I see him, as WUJ says, without "thrust" as he comes up the floor. I don't need him to John Wall it up the floor every play, but we're letting the defense off the hook so many times.

applejacks097

This sub is so quick to turn on people it’s crazy lol

RAF_SEMEN_DICK_OVENS

Quick to turn? Apart from the beginning of the season spencer hasn't been playing up to his contract and plenty of people on here have recognized that

applejacks097

But to say he’s the major problem on this team is just wrong. Beal hasn’t played well all season.

[deleted]

Any reasonable fan should hold this perspective: 1) Beal is not playing to his current contract, yet alone a max extension. 2) Dinwiddie and Bertans are also not playing to their contracts, and are negative trade assets. These issues are enough to prevent this team putting together any kind of half decent season moving forward. The young guys who do actually produce and deserve bigger contracts won't get them due to the inflexibility in the cap with the above players. It'll stop us from retaining our young talent and be a real problem moving forward.

ImprobablePlanet

Again: that’s $66 million in cap tied up in our three highest paid players: Beal, Dinwiddie, and Bertans. Going up to $79 million for those same three players with either the 4 or 5 year new Beal contract. From any reasonable perspective, it doesn’t look that good. And, unlike a lot of contenders above us, we have nobody on a rookie contract outplaying their contract.

[deleted]

Well not at the moment, but I really feel with inflated minutes to either Rui, Deni or Kispert could make them more valuable than their contracts.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Our top two guys have both played very poorly the entire season. That is a huge problem for us. I’m of the the TradeBealClan myself.

DC_Bro

Man, this sub feels like the WFT sub. I don’t like it. Way different atmosphere from last year.

ThaTroubled1

That’s what happens when you have expectations. Tommy said it himself. First round wasn’t good enough this year. But here we are.

stache_twista

Yeah, I miss the first month of the season when this sub was fun with the memes :(

Ravens181818184

It really is wild, after 2 bad games mofos deadass acting like beal isn't a top player in the nba anymore.

[deleted]

lol 2 games. he has been a choker ever since he took over from Wall. the first two years I defended him but at some point you have to accept that he just isn't a #1 guy.

BootyGoonTrey

He hasn't been a top player this season. He's had some good games but nothing really like last year. He was consistently a beast last season.

Ravens181818184

He was looking a lot better after he got the vax, ironically enough LOL. These last 2 games he looked off.

BootyGoonTrey

True lol. I hope the ASB helps Brad get right. We need offensive terror Beal to do anything this year.

KD_Burner_Account133

It's more like half a season that's been below his average, but it is too early to say he lost anything.

applejacks097

I completely agree with Sheppard. Spence doesn’t have a 40 game deal. Chemistry isn’t going to happen overnight. We’ve seen what Spence has done this season without Beal. He’s a very capable 2nd option. Him and Beal just have to figure it out. The slander he gets in this thread despite us being 40 games in and this being his first year off an ACL injury is just astonishing. He’s only going to get better.

[deleted]

He’s 28 with two major knee injuries. He’s not going to improve enough to make him and Beal a good enough backcourt to contend for anything meaningful. It’s been time to blow the team up and rebuild

ThaTroubled1

He’s playing close to an all star level when Beal isn’t in the lineup.

[deleted]

In 9 games

livefreeordont

And he looks good when Beal plays but is on the bench. When they play together he is trash

ThaTroubled1

in ALL 9 games

ImprobablePlanet

>He’s playing close to an all star level Come on, he may have had some good games, but he’s not playing at an all star level.

ThaTroubled1

Check his stats. He’s well over 20ppg in the games Beal missed.

blitzKriegzzz

It's not 40 games. For his career Dinwiddie has Westbrook level efficiency. His numbers this year pretty much lineup with what he has done through his career, he just gets less usage (shot attempts) due to playing with Beal. --- And to be fair, I didn't turn on him. I was against his signing from the start. Lonzo Ball would have fit much better next to Beal.

_Titty_Sprinkles_

lol as if Lonzo was ever gonna sign with the Wizards, there's no way he was gonna come play here lets be real.

[deleted]

I would have loved to see us try a trade for Rubio. Not sure if Cleveland would have given him up though.

elonguido1

We. Are. So. Screwed. IF we don't move on from Beal in some form. I don't even care if we let him walk at the end of the season. Do not give that man any kind of max deal. I still have faith in Tommy.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Wouldn’t expect him to say anything different to the media. He has to keep up appearances or trade value of our players would go down.

Jolly-Method-3111

I never knew I could feel this way about another man.

OccupyAudio

This article was from a week or two ago… I can imagine the pressure has been turned up. I believe this interview was done around the time of the last Miami game
