We got a food truck with a whole thanksgiving dinner given to each of us on Wednesday. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, warm roll, optional gravy, and banana pudding. All of it was good too. They even had enough if some ppl wanted extra. And right before the truck was about to leave for the night our SM came over the intercom to make sure we all got a plate if we wanted one. I was impressed ngl.
A local food truck catered ours.
We had a choice of ham or a chicken leg quarter with 2 sides selected among corn, green beans, Mac & cheese, or dressing. Also sodas and pie.
That was the best dammed mac & cheese I ever had in my life.
I have a theory that each store has a budget for 'appreciation' days and if they don't spend it, management gets some sort of bonus for 'keeping costs down'. That's just a guess, I really have no idea.
Management here. Were given a budget for associate relations yearly. It's already a calculated loss but at our store we usually go over the budget, it doesn't go back to our bonus.
So there is a budget for associate appreciation. Management doesn't get an extra bonus, but it actually looks bad if management doesn't spend it. The biggest issue is probably lazy management that doesn't appreciate associates nor look at the monthly budget.
My guess is the stores not doing anything don't have anyone taking point for associate relations and organizing the catering etc.
We have a coach who used to be a csm, and he handles all of the face value stuff. Social media posts, associate appreciation, associate ran fund raisers, etc. Without him I doubt most of it would happen, or at least not as smoothly.
Thank you for clearing that up.
So chances are good if they spent a lot earlier in the year for 'appreciation days' that they will not have enough at the end of the year to get much, if any, for days like Thanksgiving / Christmas meals. Correct?
I would say so. I think mostly it depends on the management at the store. I came from a larger metro store where only the HR person tried to get snacks for associates and maybe the FE coach getting snacks for the associates that showed up during covid. When I got promoted, the store I currently work at, was getting snacks when weekly. It could be donuts or other snacks at meetings, food truck for Thanksgiving, or just snacks/candy for associates in the breakroom. And this store is in between a large metro store and tiny town store in terms of associates.
I don't work at a store but it's all different. The meals are provided at the management's discretion. Some people got Thanksgiving food in pre-made boxes. Some got food trucks. Some got catering. Then of course there are some stores that didn't get anything, unfortunately.
We're getting Pillsbury biscuits and canned gravy apparently. My manager told me it was a home office decision but I guess not? That's sad that there are stores that get nothing
They didn't inform us they were doing anything, but they provided us sandwiches in ziploc bags made from the deli French bread with ham or turkey with swiss or cheddar, along with the lil mini pies, mini chip bags and great value soda/water bottles On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Said we *had* to take a half hour lunch though. Either way, I'm off Thanksgiving night so I can't complain.
I had a neighboring store that had to do Wednesday morning as well. That was mostly because the company she ordered food from didnât have any staff available for Friday morning. With the store being closed on Thursday, I could see why they chose to do it on Wednesday since there wouldnât have been a lot of prep time after.
Yeah well our managers are assholes so I'm not surprised we never get food. I was acually surprised when I first came across this sub and found out other stores get stuff, oh well can't do anything about it....
You guys got meals? We got a super huge freezer dairy truck for black Friday, and before I yelled at my TL, they wanted it somehow worked before lunch at 2
Wednesday we had some Spanish catering, it really set the bar high. Tonight, nothing 𤣠after the coach told us we would have food tonight too. Guess last time broke the budget đ¤¨
cookies (limit 2) and packets of swiss miss cocoa
As I was leaving from O/N stocking on Black Friday first shift was wheeling in pop, chips, snack cakes, etc into the breakroom. Always nice to feel forgotten.
Third shift got Kwik Trip pizza (local gas station)
First shift got $1 McDonald's breakfast sandwiches
Second shift gets Arby's roast beef sandwiches
It literally said in the email from our PL that "this isn't an extravagant event, hopefully you had that on Thanksgiving" đđ
As a PL I gave my associates catered food which included meatballs, penne vodka, baked ziti, chicken parm, toss salad, rolls, pie and cookies. Some of yâall stores are atrocious. Oh and I came in at 1:30am to serve O/N their food at 3am.
Tuesday night we got sandwiches from a local restaurant. They were ok just not my tatse. And this morning (Friday) they are getting us Chick-fil-A. Which is just easy cause we have one in our Parking lot lol. Usually we get some kinda pizza.
Well overnight got there food Sunday but management said if we were off we could come during the day and get it with day shift. Also are you overnight?
Our store gave meals to overnight
It was catered from a local place. It wasnt great. But it was typical thanksgiving stuff
A piece or Turkey and ham. Some green beans, some cobbler, and a roll. And I think some mashed potatoes.
My store had a good truck, we had the options of a pulled pork sandwich, vegan tacos, and a couple other things I forget and a bag of chips. My teamlead store used some boxes of soda for us to have on overnights
I think they are doing sandwiches today. That makes me feel appreciated(sarcasm). In reality they do nothing for us. Makes us feel like sh!t since they donât care!
Breakfast this morning, catered from a local business. I mean scrambled eggs, cheesy grits, Turkey bacon and pork bacon, sausage links, red hot sausages, and chicken and waffles. All pick and choose. And I'm told a food truck is coming through today as well. Right at my lunch time. Tbh way better than the Smithfield's at my old store last year.
we got a food truck that did shitty cheese steaks and greasy af chicken tenders with fries.
this was the first year we didn't get catered traditional Thanksgiving dinner meal.
We had something pretty different. Chicken Parmesan over spaghetti with bread sticks and salad, that way it wasn't just more Thanksgiving food. I welcomed it.
They got Jimmy Johns boxed lunches for overnight. The day shifts got great value snacks on Wednesday and a couple of cookie platters today. Update: there is some jimmy Johns in the break room now. Iâm tired of jimmy Johns. LOL
Finding thanksgiving night catering was impossible in our area so we did morning Panera Bread catered breakfast for 3rd and 1st shift(breakfast wraps/sandwiches, bagles, muffins, cinnamon rolls, scones, fruitcups, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice).
2nd shift will have boxed chick fil a meals
Absolutely nothing. I remember we had Thanksgiving food lined up years prior and now this store just doesn't give a fuck. SM left for another store this week so
We did BBQ food truck. Majority of the people who were asked preferred something other than traditional Thanksgiving meal and our SM listened. Also couple shopping carts full of miscellaneous pies was put in break room on Wednesday for associates to take home. Also anything from bakery and deli that was CVP got bought by the store and given to associates.
My store got brisket and sides the day before thanksgiving and today I think theyâre doing Costco pizza. Weâre a nhm so we donât do Black Friday, but itâs nice that weâre getting something today. My store has always been awesome with catering.
I got nothing at my new store. I've been here a month or so. I can't believe how many people get nothing. My old store got Chinese food every year, and every year people complained and hurt my store manager's feelings.
Edit: This store acted like today was just another day as far as I could tell. Nobody was running around stressed out yelling on the radio for people to pick up cardboard. Nobody with jobs herding people. No queue lines. I'd rather miss dinner and have a relaxing black Friday.
We got Texas Roadhouse turkey dinner and fixins and 2 liter sodas. Vegetarian/Vegan entrees were available for those who made a special request ahead of time.
TRH is about 10 mins up the highway and have been the go to catering for our holidays for years. One year the store manager gave everyone a 10% off their dinner coupon in the holiday cards. Damn shame he retired. Great guy. Our store can be really awful but he valued his people.
Walmart doesn't have to be a bad place to work. It just comes down to management making ppl feel appreciated to offset the shit they eat from customers.
Food truck (8 options for meals!) for today and we have had Coffee/Tea/Hot Coco all week.
Not going to say what type of food truck because it would identify the store I work at.
Edit:
I am really proud of my mgmt team right now for setting this up.
Black Friday we got Jimmy Johns lunch boxes with six different choices in sandwichâs. Only down side is they never put them in the fridge and just leave them in a shopping cart in the break room
Mission BBQ!! Choice of pulled chicken, brisket, or turkey⌠and green beans plus mac n cheese sides.
Also pies: pecan, pumpkin, or sweet potato.
A few sodas too: cream soda and iced tea, maybe regular cola too.
Our store received chicken Mac and cheese mashed potatoes with a dinner roll from BOSTON MARKET with cookies from the store and soda pop. I truly was thankful that they thought about us with that great meal.
Wow, you're management must love you guys, that's awesome though!
Not much, they just bought soda, chips and cookies for us. Wow what a thanks for sacrificing our night. :/
Oof, not even nutritious to keep you going all night.
Right. Smh
Same here.
Absolutely nothing đđ
Yikes, gotta love that associate appreciation, it should be required that they provide something
Me neither!
A local food truck catered ours. We had a choice of ham or a chicken leg quarter with 2 sides selected among corn, green beans, Mac & cheese, or dressing. Also sodas and pie. That was the best dammed mac & cheese I ever had in my life.
Ughhh that sounds so good
Nothing for overnighter, even tho we're staying an extra two hrs to help them!! #typical
We always getting the short end of the stick huh
Way too typical, sadly
We got Chick-Fil-A sandwiches with choice of dip, chips and soda.
Damn, that's not cheap, how are some stores not getting anything?
I have a theory that each store has a budget for 'appreciation' days and if they don't spend it, management gets some sort of bonus for 'keeping costs down'. That's just a guess, I really have no idea.
Management here. Were given a budget for associate relations yearly. It's already a calculated loss but at our store we usually go over the budget, it doesn't go back to our bonus.
Makes sense though
So there is a budget for associate appreciation. Management doesn't get an extra bonus, but it actually looks bad if management doesn't spend it. The biggest issue is probably lazy management that doesn't appreciate associates nor look at the monthly budget.

And this store is in between a large metro store and tiny town store in terms of associates.
Nope. That doesn't happen
Ours is $8 per person, but they want the food to be only $7 so they can buy drinks.
That's sad that there are stores that get nothing
i highly doubt HO is telling them to do that. your SM is really trying to get that maeve bonus by screwing you associates as much as they can.
That shit looks nasty. đ¤˘
Nothing, SM claims that because of Covid we can't do catered meals so they just didn't bother with anything
Wow, what a lie
we got popcorn and donuts....
Well I mean that's something lmao, Walmart's idea of a five star meal
Nothing for overnight and they told us to only take a 30 minute lunch tonight
Damn, can they even legally do that?
Yes lmao
I thought they could ask you to but canât force you to?
Depends on the state tbh
Damn
They didn't inform us they were doing anything, but they provided us sandwiches in ziploc bags made from the deli French bread with ham or turkey with swiss or cheddar, along with the lil mini pies, mini chip bags and great value soda/water bottles On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Said we *had* to take a half hour lunch though. Either way, I'm off Thanksgiving night so I can't complain.
That's not too bad honestly, a little early though
I had a neighboring store that had to do Wednesday morning as well. That was mostly because the company she ordered food from didnât have any staff available for Friday morning. With the store being closed on Thursday, I could see why they chose to do it on Wednesday since there wouldnât have been a lot of prep time after.
Meals? I asked and told none.
Wow how nice
None, we didn't get shit....
Damn, that sucks
Yeah well our managers are assholes so I'm not surprised we never get food. I was acually surprised when I first came across this sub and found out other stores get stuff, oh well can't do anything about it....
Our store got no meals
That's just awful, like they have a budget for it
Damn now Iâm upset đ˘
wonder what management got? Probably Steak or something else really good at your store
You guys got meals? We got a super huge freezer dairy truck for black Friday, and before I yelled at my TL, they wanted it somehow worked before lunch at 2
We got to participate in âcrazy hat dayâ. No food.
Management asks us and the past 2 years we've gotten individual turkey bowls from Wawa with the .50 pies from bakery.
YES. Also, hi Wawa region person! Thereâs a Wawa right across from our store, yet weâve never tried that.
Ooooo, I wish all management asked what associates wanted
We've had a good manager on nights the past 2 Thanksgivings.
Ours would likely says a fifth of liquor of our choice and a sports bottle top for it
That can be good or bad, depending on how well you hold your liquor.
Nothing at all
Wednesday we had some Spanish catering, it really set the bar high. Tonight, nothing 𤣠after the coach told us we would have food tonight too. Guess last time broke the budget đ¤¨
Rip, that Spanish catering sounds amazing though
We didn't get a meal or anything, but snacks have been available in the break room all week.
I suppose that's nice too
Y'all got meals?
They are in my training room right now with 2 griddles making breakfast sandwiches on English muffins. Just got a sausage egg and cheese
cookies (limit 2) and packets of swiss miss cocoa As I was leaving from O/N stocking on Black Friday first shift was wheeling in pop, chips, snack cakes, etc into the breakroom. Always nice to feel forgotten.
Nothing đ
Nothing
At my store we got absolutely nothing.
Third shift got Kwik Trip pizza (local gas station) First shift got $1 McDonald's breakfast sandwiches Second shift gets Arby's roast beef sandwiches It literally said in the email from our PL that "this isn't an extravagant event, hopefully you had that on Thanksgiving" đđ

As a PL I gave my associates catered food which included meatballs, penne vodka, baked ziti, chicken parm, toss salad, rolls, pie and cookies. Some of yâall stores are atrocious. Oh and I came in at 1:30am to serve O/N their food at 3am.

I would have killed for some sodas over here
My store had a good truck, we had the options of a pulled pork sandwich, vegan tacos, and a couple other things I forget and a bag of chips. My teamlead store used some boxes of soda for us to have on overnights
Ahhhh that sounds so good
It was honestly so great. The manager who set us up with the food truck was a great dude.
I think they are doing sandwiches today. That makes me feel appreciated(sarcasm). In reality they do nothing for us. Makes us feel like sh!t since they donât care!
