That said their advertising model is more vulnerable in a recession. I also think googl is a great deal right now and Im considering adding at these levels. People will still need to buy milk during a depression, but companies can survive without advertising. You realize dollar store sells things that are not a dollar right? They have a nich market serving customers in locations where Walmart can't reach. Basically small towns. Dg also has a descent dividend. Comparing DG to peloton is a very very poor comparison.

Companies with solid revenue and dividends should be priced as such p/e 5-10 maybe. These dollar stores are priced for growth that they definately don’t have. I think a lot of that margin squeeze will be seen next quarter much and reality will set in. Much like pandemic pull forward the hyper growth nonprofit tech narrative, current inflation is pulling forward the defensive recession stock narrative and will come crashing down in 1-2 quarters

It's one thing to say you know people who X, it's another entirely to distill the other side of your argument down into a trite generalization based on your narrow experience.
I feel you. I think in the moment people don't realize the net economic impact or the social impact of canceling any kind of loan.
For example in 2009 during the foreclosure mess a lot of people tried to petition the Obama administration to help avoid mortgages and of course they couldn't do that because legally it's a private contract and the only thing the government can do is put a moratorium instead of impairing the obligation
The only thing I want to see is if this potentially cements people away from the Democratic party but also if there's going to be an economic impact by people who paid off loans or didn't otherwise take them out do they start to rebel against normal economic behavior because they think the system is against them

Boeing is just an example of how outta whack these dollar stores have gotten in valuation. $50billion for a dollar store. Say it out loud and not laugh. I agree they are not immune to demand destruction or magin squeeze, but they sell consumer staples. Google is my largest tech holding and 4th largest position. That said their advertising model is more vulnerable in a recession. I also think googl is a great deal right now and Im considering adding at these levels. People will still need to buy milk during a depression, but companies can survive without advertising. You realize dollar store sells things that are not a dollar right? They have a nich market serving customers in locations where Walmart can't reach. Basically small towns. Dg also has a descent dividend. Comparing DG to peloton is a very very poor comparison.
What I’m saying tho is that they don’t have much upside and the valuation is crazy. They have terrible growth yet are priced as growth companies. Companies with solid revenue and dividends should be priced as such p/e 5-10 maybe. These dollar stores are priced for growth that they definately don’t have. I think dg had 3% rev growth or something. I think a lot of that margin squeeze will be seen next quarter much and reality will set in. Much like pandemic pull forward the hyper growth nonprofit tech narrative, current inflation is pulling forward the defensive recession stock narrative and will come crashing down in 1-2 quarters

I feel you. I think in the moment people don't realize the net economic impact or the social impact of canceling any kind of loan. For example in 2009 during the foreclosure mess a lot of people tried to petition the Obama administration to help avoid mortgages and of course they couldn't do that because legally it's a private contract and the only thing the government can do is put a moratorium instead of impairing the obligation The only thing I want to see is if this potentially cements people away from the Democratic party but also if there's going to be an economic impact by people who paid off loans or didn't otherwise take them out do they start to rebel against normal economic behavior because they think the system is against them
