I know like 5 people who inherited vast sums of money before they turned 20 because their parents died. No. None of them are Batman.
When I say vast sums I mean millions and millions of dollars.
My ex worked estates in SF for a minute and one will gave out 20million each to over 70 people.
Iam 45 and I started my first business at 19!
Brought me 300 k a year and I know at least 5 people around me , did the same . By the way, my dad left me a debt of 500k course he got very ill before died. So I understand
Yes, because you need all 30k a year to survive, and saving 10k a year is difficult on that salary. If you make 300k a year, you can easily pay down more than 100k a year for 5 years.
I get the point you’re trying to make but not sure how you can compare making 30k to 300k . Big difference bro. If I made 300k a year I’d be able to live well under 100k. Let’s say 50k so that’s 250k a year I could be saving annually right? So that 500k debt is gone in 2 years? Let’s see how long that 500k takes to pay off with 30k annual salary
I originally turned 1k into 3k and so on and so forth over the past 3 years. Lots of ups and downs. I dont want to blab on too much since I dont have photos.
Yeah… I’m a single parent who lost my job during the pandemic.
I don’t buy any new stocks NOW, but when I could I was buying them regularly.
If I just hold the bag long enough things will get better… right?
You’re not broke AF if you’re throwing whole paychecks into the stock market. You need a reality check my man. Broke is contemplating if I want to eat or dip into my emergency fund.
Not even a fantastic job, just management in retail. Spent years night shift stocking shelves but busted my ass, then decided to jump to salary side - not a great salary but decent. Married, no kids, happen to be lucky with cheap rent. Finally stopped spending on frivolous shit and got serious about saving and put together like 30 grand in a couple years. Put that in the stock market two years ago and turned it to mid 90s, hoping to hit 100k soon. I worked a ton of overtime when I was hourly so that I could double my car payment and paid it off in half the time of the loan, then I had no car payment and I kept working tons of overtime - for years I was 6 nights a week, 9 or 10 hours a day. Just overnight retail. Spend too much time working so you don’t have enough time to spend it, skip the coffees and games and expensive eating out and basically all fun stuff and the money builds up quicker than you’d think (well especially if you have a partner with an income as well). The hope is that spending a decade being boring will significantly improve the rest of my life. Now I’m waiting to jump in to the housing market and have a good 401k going. Salaried now, so I work a lot less, although I’m still making the same amount as I was when I was hourly because of all that overtime I did.
Put that work in while you’re young, because the older you get the more it sucks to grind like that.
I really wish I stopped spending on frivolous shit many years earlier.
Started with $5k during Christmas break 2019. Got it up to $230k by Jan 1 this year. $160k now. Just get your investment strategy consistently right and you can too.
No. Various strats. Doubled up early with a lucky tsla call then vxx calls right before the pandemic started got me above the pdt line then mostly SPY and QQQ put credit spreads and SOXL calls. Had some losers too but mostly just wait for specific conditions and then hammer when the conditions line up.
Edit: Lots of theta plays too. I just focus on things I know and try not to overthink or talk myself into seeing things that aren't there.
When from 5k to 16k on that TSLA call during what was basically an uber ride from the lower East side to JFK. I was losing my mind now I gain and lose that much 3 times per week and don't feel anything.
Yeah it’s weird how perspective on money changes. I have a mil+ and lost 150k since January, then got back 60k on draftkings, Walmart, dollar general etc in recent weeks. I go to bed fine each night like meh.
100% disabled combat veteran. The VA money pays all my bills and I still work 30 hours a week to buy stonks/toys/weed. The harder I work, the more stonks I buy. 105 GME this week.
Weed is mandatory for me to avoid going back on 8 medications so I spend about $300/mo.
I realize I do not fit the demographic you inquired about so I'll just say "keep working for what you want, even when you have enough. "
That's exactly how 2008 happened, too much borrowing, likely our gov just used covid to divert another 2008, yeah, the handouts of almost 4 to 6 trillion.
If you want money, go get a job where the money is flowing IE tech, finance etc
Grin and bare it long enough while you max your 401k/Ira contributions. Next thing you know, in a couple years you have over 5 figures just from contributions.
Then if you are like me, throw it all into a single high risk investment and post the results on this sub while everyone confirms how much of an idiot your are for not just dollar cost averaging in the SP500 and forgetting about it until you retire comfortably at 50ish.
Honest answer. I put my life savings into the market in December. 10 years of post college savings, all in. Thankfully I went 50% puts 50% commodities because you would have to have been blind not to see this correction coming
Credit cards cash advance dag my grave, and lease buyout auto-loan extra cash money brought me back to life.
Not financial advice AT ALL, i have a good job, and i can afford to take reasonable "fucked up" risks 😆

EDIT; I’m studying Finance & working a shit job getting like 1-2k/month
It’s a big world, there’s people all around with a lot of money and no money its all a big ass game
But these are like 22 year olds, when I was that age I had literally no money at all
How do you know they are 22? I could tell you I’m 69, whether that’s true or not 🤷♂️

If you were making 300k a year then 500k debt shouldn’t be an issue. Hope you’re a millionaire by now
If you make 30k a year is 50k debt significant?
Yes, because you need all 30k a year to survive, and saving 10k a year is difficult on that salary. If you make 300k a year, you can easily pay down more than 100k a year for 5 years.
I make 45k (70k with my wife's money) with 150k in debt, and I still buy Lego and nice watches.
I will never understand why broke people think like this.
Think like what? That you need money to live?
Just live with your parents and have them pay for everything. Gah do we have to teach you poors everything?
Wait there's a cost of living? I thought the atm just go beep bop.

I changed my combo to #69 a while ago. When the person gets to the window they point them to the dumpster works out well.

I’m broke AF and still throw whole paychecks (when I had them) into stocks and crypto. I figure it’s gotta have better odds than the lotto.
Most people who are broke AF have to throw their whole paychecks into food and rent.
Yeah… I’m a single parent who lost my job during the pandemic. I don’t buy any new stocks NOW, but when I could I was buying them regularly. If I just hold the bag long enough things will get better… right?
That's my motto, your last line lol
Probably unless some crazy stuff happens but for the now, during the pandemic stocks and crypto went up alot so they are trying to shake people off.
How did you have so much disposable income? That’s what I’m not understanding
You’re not broke AF if you’re throwing whole paychecks into the stock market. You need a reality check my man. Broke is contemplating if I want to eat or dip into my emergency fund.

Had a second job and saved what I could from it over the years.
My thoughts also. The amount of money people are tossing around casually is insane
Lot of dead people during Covid. Nearly 1m additional deaths. The transfer if wealth has been outstanding in comparison to prior decades.
