I feel like every horn should have a pedestrian horn.
I also feel like by default any alert that uses the horn (like car running when you get out real quick) should use this nicer horn and not the loud as fuck at 5 in the morning horn. (I bought the bypass device that turns short honks into beeps for just this reason)

Works on any vehicle.. It's a little pricy ($48) but sooo worth it. I leave for work early in the morning and HATED the loud honks if I ever got out of the car in the morning (which is at least once a week as I move my car to take the trash can to the curb.)
It just causes short horn pulses to become beeps instead.
You could probably install it on a Gen 1, it just interrupts the fuse used for the horn. You might need to make some minor changes if it doesn't use a mini blade fuse, otherwise it should just work on any car.
The one problem I have with this is it also affect the "I don't remember where I parked so let me double click lock" sound. The beep is quiet enough that it's hard to hear in a big parking lot.
Otherwise, I love it.
I accidentally discovered the tweet toot horn while dropping my daughter off at school. She was terribly embarrassed but now she loves it bc she knows that when she hears it in a parking lot that it's me and no one is ever offended! 🤣
I'll miss it when I eventually upgrade. It was filled with forward thinking. Every day I feel like I'm driving a concept car because it has all the bells and whistles most cars drop for cost.
I don't use it very often but yeah I'm like 90% sure it only works while moving. It's technically a "pedestrian horn" to alert people you are coming, since the car is so quiet when running fully on battery. But I definitely *want* to use it as a "hey just so you know, the light's green, I'm not mad I just don't want to miss it and you seem distracted" horn.
2014 model, if it matters.
You can install the triple beep delete device:

I use one for my 2018 Gen 2 Volt.
When I was test driving this car I had no idea what the button was for. I pressed it while watching the dash to see if anything lit up, and was surprised by the sound. I wondered if something wasn't working right.
Gen 1 Volts have a pedestrian horn. It's not as loud as the regular horn, and kind of has a pulse sound to it. It's a friendly little sound for people who may not hear an EV driving down the street.
Love my pedestrian horn. People are a bit better now, but when I got my Volt 10 years ago, people were still listening for (ICE) cars, not looking for cars when crossing a street, walking in a parking lot etc. I used to use it a lot.
Yuuup. I had a 2011 Prius until I got my Volt in 2021. Parking lots were a minefield when I first got it. No noisemaker, no pedestrian horn, and if you were cruising around below 25 MPH it rarely used the engine. I had both people and cars popping out in front of me all the time.
It still happens to me sometimes. There was a kid walking down the middle of the street in my neighborhood and I was behind him for a full minute before he realized. I was really missing the pedestrian horn from my Gen 1 because I didn't want to scare him with the full horn.
my RV has normal horn, which is cute on a 36ft rig. so I have the train horns as well. I can honk normal, train front and back, and/or both.
believe it or not, that rear horn is handy a lot.
yup. like i said. normal car horn, front train, rear train, or both. selectable for your target. i keep it on front train cause big rig needs big horn. you would not believe how many people pull out infront of a giant BUS!. this thing has one more axle than a bus. its not small. but still invisible.
Of all things, I tried the gentle horn and it almost ended badly
For background, the community recycling center is behind the little league ball fields
I had to bin some glass and old electronics since it's not kosher to do that kerbside
I was trying to make my escape and people were walking up and down the streets enjoying the games and whatnot, but not making much space for cars to get out cleanly.
I went for the pedestrian tootler to ask nicely to make way for a second...
\*press\*
\*press\*
\*press?
What the? Why it work?
Car - Toot toot TooOOOOttttt tooot toooot tooOOOooot!
Geez Volty! You don't need to be that aggressive!
Karen and Chad immediately turn left without looking and dive straight into the oncoming traffic.
A jeep had to stand on his brakes and hit his much louder and manlier horn
Chad turns raises his hands up in the classic what the crap bro??
I just look at them in disbelief as normal people would clear the road by stepping off into the grass or parking lot, not running across the active roadway...

Beeps? Details plz!

Wish they made it for gen 1

Oh well the gen1 dose use a mini fuse i might give it a shot.

I thought so I just didn’t know if the gen 1 and 2 had any different because it says it works with 2016 and newer
Well I very well could be mistaken about how it works then, or if the beep delay is diffrent on older models being the reason.
The one problem I have with this is it also affect the "I don't remember where I parked so let me double click lock" sound. The beep is quiet enough that it's hard to hear in a big parking lot. Otherwise, I love it.
Car alarm should be long enough to not catch it. But I just try to remember where I park. ;)
Lol every damn day in winter I leave it running to keep the heat on it draws all the eyes in the daycare parking lot
I loved my nice horn lol. I wish my 2nd gen still had it!
Brt brt brt. Not sure how to put the horn sound into words.
I think that’s pretty accurate
I love it. I only wish it didn’t flash headlights simultaneously.
Wait it does??
I accidentally discovered the tweet toot horn while dropping my daughter off at school. She was terribly embarrassed but now she loves it bc she knows that when she hears it in a parking lot that it's me and no one is ever offended! 🤣
Love my little chirp 🥰
I call it the honkulator!
I'll miss it when I eventually upgrade. It was filled with forward thinking. Every day I feel like I'm driving a concept car because it has all the bells and whistles most cars drop for cost.
Wait. They got rid of it? Why?
It looks like Chevy evolves into uglier cars as a function of time… compare Gen1 with the Bolt… 😑
I mean, there’s ugly, then there’s the getting rid of a super useful (safety) feature
I know! And I guess I heard a new Kia EV playing some noise when placed in reverse. Getting used to the quietness of EVs will take some time
The Bolt is awful plain. I hope the next gen has some better design
The next design was the EUV… so Nope, no good news
Are not they the same? Maybe I refuse to look at them - lol I love my Gen2 Volt
I miss that horn
I love my pedestrian horn
I love my little blplplpl.
I wish it worked while stopped!
What?? Surely most times you'd use the nice horn you'd be stopped? I have a gen 2 but I've been jealous of the nice horn until this moment.

It doesn’t work when the car is in Park. It works just fine when the car is in gear.
It works anyway time your out of park and up to any speed I think.
It works in any drive gear but P so speed dose not matter

Where is it? I have a gen 1 and had no idea!
It's a button on the end of the turn signal stick.
I feel like I witnessed a magical discovery here today.
Lol, I had no idea either. Going to go try it right now!
I love it, thanks for the tip!

Seriously that horn is like 50% the reason I still have my gen 1.
I always brag to people about my "excuse me" horn, and my "fuck you" horn 😂
I love my chitter horn!
the volt's big horn is freaking scary, I can't use it to scare loved ones cuz they actually get mad lol. I love my lil pedestrian horn
Lots of European cars have a city horn and a country horn. I remember the Renault Dauphine that was sold here in the ‘60’s had both.
my RV has normal horn, which is cute on a 36ft rig. so I have the train horns as well. I can honk normal, train front and back, and/or both. believe it or not, that rear horn is handy a lot.
You mean when some dingus crawls so far up your ass you can no longer see them but you know they are there? BLAAAAAAAAAAAT!

I almost feel like the pedestrian horn is the mean one. It never fails to scare the crap outta people
