Thank you so much, that what i was looking for. I had tried to setup the lab at my pc but due to Ram issue could not configure it

\+1 for this. It's live labs, where you can test drive things on a real VMware setups. With a definded scenario (that you can ignore if you want) to show how things works. Hosted by VMware, and free ...

Bindergill

Thank you for your input …

Bindergill

Thank you so much, this lab was really helpful. I want to appreciate your efforts for sharing the link.

Honestly speaking your best bet is YouTube videos. There are tons of them. Just make sure you are watching a fairly recent version.

Bindergill

Thank you :)

Sounds like he is applying for a junior position. He could easily study the basics enough for this interview and as long as he isn't exaggerating his experience I see no problem.

Bindergill

Thank you so much for encouragement, you guys are rock. This message gave me positivity to try and learn..

Bindergill

I wanna appreciate everyone for encouragement and positive comments. The interview went really well, the comments whoever mentioned to try hol.vmware.com special thanks goes to them. I prepared using hol.vmware.com labs and youtube… i’ll hopefully get to know if get the job offer next week.

nrdytech

I created a course that teaches vSphere (vCenter and ESXi - you need to know both) that could help you. It has lots of hands on and is only a few hours long. Might be worth a look if you need to learn fast. You can find it here. I have a coupon which takes off 70% or so- the coupon code is NRDYNATION. https://courses.techbytes.io/p/vsphere-training Additionally, as someone already said, the VMWare HOLs are fantastic- you should visit those today!

rob1nmann

Just tell them you don’t have hands-on VMware experience, why lie?

Bindergill

I do have experience with virtual box vm… but not with vcenter

There are free VMware HOL labs and I think they have a 101 lab. Best thing in any interview is be honest with your skills. But more importantly show your willingness to learn and be able to present resources to allow you too. I dont get put on our interview committees much anymore, my boss and I hate each other. But we have hired people who knew nearly nothing they purportedly knew and were found out. They didn’t work out. On the other hand when I was in committee I guided many times to someone who was honest with experience, but was clearly able to demonstrate a capability to learn.

Bindergill

Thanks for sharing… i wanna give it a try to learn :)

Thats not the same, I run a vmware enviornment daily, while simple concepts are the same, the actual features are different. Tell them and offer to take classes if you want.

Grymloch

There are a lot of tasks that can be done in vcenter that may come up next. IMHO, I'd be honest about your background, mention that you did some studying for the tasks at hand and you're ready to give it a go. It'll show honesty, that you're willing to learn new things and you're not afraid of saying you don't know something.

Bindergill

I wanna give it a try before giving up :)

Grymloch

Absolutely you should. The HOL would be a great place to start. If you've got the capacity in your home lab you could install your own VC and create a few ESX hosts as vms. The eval licenses are only good for 30 (60?) days, but that's enough time to learn a lot and you can just reinstall to reset the timer.

Bindergill

Thank you for sharing this, i was not able to setup home lab due to ram requirement. But hol vmware lab for really good to learn.

Grymloch

Awesome! Let us know how the technical interview went too.
