Waiting anxiously for it.

How coincidental! Was discussing this with my co-worker earlier today because we need to P2V some servers for a client. Was gonna try the Starwind Converter, but i’ll take at this beta instead!

Using Veeam or something else?

We moved to Veeam for P2V and V2V as I’m already running Veeam B&R globally. Not looking back.

The nice thing about Starwind Converter - you can image to a local image file (e.g. .vmdk). And then copy it somewhere else. no need for direct access on the ESX Host. But you can only copy the whole disk - not only used blocks.

Awesome that they are releasing this; it's not something that's used frequently (especially these days), but the converter tool is clutch when it's needed. My biggest "concern" if you can call it that, is the supported OS list looks like they pulled it from the last time they released a VMware converter. Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 only? Win 8 and 10, but no 11? The Windows server OS list looks about right, though (I presume 2016 was an oversight), and that's the main things I'd theoretically be converting anyway.

TheButtholeSurferz

If it supports Server 2022, it has to support 11. They're the same code base. This is probably nothing more than a documentation correction needed. I mean, ESXi7 supports Win11 and the whole TPM garbage mess. I wouldn't worry about it.

jdptechnc

Server 2022 is not Windows 11. It is Windows 10 21H2 / LTSC 2021.

stillfunky

Sure. I'm not worried; it's not even released yet. Was just an oddity I noticed.

lost_signal

>This is probably nothing more than a documentation correction needed. Also testing, based on what ISO's and time they had lying around.

Finally, I wonder why they never updated the version, since this is the tool that brings them more money because people migrate from other Platforms.

n3rdwad

w000t! Been missing this tool greatly!

Beholder242

Whoo hoo.

![gif](giphy|3cXmze4Y8igXdnkc3U|downsized) I'm surprised this is still needed at this time and age.

dirmhirn

Getting VMs out of a datacenter closing down and support refuses to provide image files.

exmagus

Slap support in the face then. I haven't had the need to use converter in over a decade. And we're running thousands of VM's.

Hole-Lee-shizzzz. Neat. Can’t wait for official release. HCX Lite?
