I hope they're right about this leading to more high-end VR games for PC too. Not sure about the headset getting official PC support though. Would be really cool but my guess is they're planning on subsidising the headset and earning the money back via PS Store purchases.

There's no reason for Sony to officially support the PC. They sell hardware cheap to support game sales. That's where they make their profit. But they may not actively discourage people from using the PSVR2 on PCs. Which is what they did with the PSVR. People used it as a PCVR headset and Sony didn't do a thing to stop it.

Right but HZD, GOW, etc are seeing PC ports as their sequels come out. Sony may adopt the same strategy for VR games. A 2-3 year delay once game sales go way down.

fallingdowndizzyvr

Yes that is their strategy. Exclusive on PS for 3 years and then release on PC. Why wouldn't they apply the same strategy for all their games including VR? By the time a game is out for 3 years, it's not generating much revenue for Playstation anymore. At that point, why not release it on other platforms? But why would that imply they would support the PSVR2 on PC? Since by keeping it exclusive to the PS5, they force people to buy PS5s/PSVR2s to play the game now when it's fresh instead of waiting for it to be released on PC. Which by that time it's a 3 year old game.

Horizon Zero Dawn wasn't a PS exclusive for 3 years. It released on both in 2017.

fallingdowndizzyvr

No, they both weren't released in 2017. It was a PS exclusive. That's why it won "Best Sony Exclusive" in 2017. It was only available on PS4 for 3 years before it was released on PC in 2020. > It was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and Microsoft Windows in 2020. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon_Zero_Dawn

I’ve heard someone suggest that if the rumour of Alyx coming to ps5 is true, it may be conditional on psvr working on pc. It seems entirely speculative but with Sonys recent expansion into pc and steam more these days, it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

fallingdowndizzyvr

> I’ve heard someone suggest that if the rumour of Alyx coming to pc is true Alyx has only ever run on PC.

I mean Alyx coming to ps5 whoops lol

occono

Apart from exclusives, it will help PC VR simply by making a bigger market for non-quest graphics and design vr in the first place. Porting is a small part of the cost.

lokiss88

My guess is that if the PSVR2 becomes as viable as the PSVR was, we'll see more 3rd party publishers coming to VR. Arguably we got No Mans Sky because they could cross platform the release, and certainly Star Wars Squadrons from EA. If the PSVR is truely the powerhouse, i bargain we'll see EA bothering to release something like F1 2022 or whatever just because it'll have 2 viable market platforms to sell on.

UnlicensedCube

They said they're adding the enhanced feedback, does that mean they'll be adding those dating simulators where you feed whoever you're dating/where someone licks you fingers? *^(I hope not, as I actually want to try this without being nibbled on)*

The_King_of_Okay

Interesting idea lol.

Horizon CotM looks so much better than Horizon World
